  • This 1952 Schwinn Hornet was saved from a local scraper because he knew it was a Schwinn. I picked it up from him. It was in poor shape. But it's a Schwinn. It was missing a couple of reflectors and an AS seat. I replaced the tires, tubes and rebuilt the seat. It is road worthy now. The clips were edited and the music produced from my Yamaha keyboard, Super 64 Chromatic Harmonica and GarageBand. Thanks to all at CABE for their interest and support.

    For Christmas 1952, my folks got me this Exact model of Schwinn bicycle, with the exception that mine was painted Green and Cream colors. Amazing, I have just reconnected with a boy's special early days.

    A couple months ago I did a similar job on a 26" Catalina. (girls bike). I wish I could put pictures in the comments, it came out really cool. I ride it all the time!

      I love how you the way you kept that patina on the bike making it all original I've got a matching bike just like that but it is a b 107 straight bar what the Schwinn front fender lights for Springer front end and a 6 hole foreleg rack and the original chrome S2 Wheels finding a tank that's got a match that patina is going to be really hard I'm looking for the same thing myself but other than that that was a wonderful video with the music.

    I just bought a 1951 hornet in a lot worse shape than this one. I made her go and that's it. Left it rusty and all original. I love that you left this one original too and just made it road worthy :)

    No fan of videos with no narration but this music is cool at least. Good luck on the project.

    That bike would look good in the back of my 1952 three quarter ton fire engine red 5 window cab pick up

    Thanks so much for all of the positive comments about the restoration. I still have it placed on the soffit overlooking the kitchen and great room. No it’s not perfect, but it doesn’t take away from the beauty of the Schwinn straight bar. I have entertained adding a tank from time to time. Maybe someday.

    That front locking Fork tells me that this Hornet was one up from the standard Schwinn Hornet model but other than that that's a beautiful bike I like the way after when you clean the paint and everything I'm glad you did not repaint it it just shows that the bike has been used honestly without the glitzy Chrome.

    Thanks for the comment. It is a nice rider but now it's got a special place in the kitchen.

    Delta lights were OEM. Torpedo’s are nice to add and more affordable. Thanks for the comment.

    Good job. how did you save the paint? maybe it was just the exposure, but it looked too rusty to save. I j6st go4 my Great Grandfather's '52 DX. really just needs a polishing and freshening of the mechanicals. original tubes and tires still hold air even.

    Hey cottagethyme, I can't believe you actually found paint under all that rust. Excellent job on the restoration. You might like to check out a couple of vintage bikes I have on my channel also.

      cottagethyme the patina retains the value? If it looks “to new “ will the value go down? These are questions,I don’t know anything about bike restorations

    • @pennsyltuckyden9823
      @pennsyltuckyden9823 4 роки тому +1

      Joe Doe, some people like original paint, if there's any left. Some people like to completely restore a bike. It's a personal preference. As far as which is more valuable, I think if you find a bike in really nice condition with it's original finish, that would have the most value.
