- This 1952 Schwinn Hornet was saved from a local scraper because he knew it was a Schwinn. I picked it up from him. It was in poor shape. But it's a Schwinn. It was missing a couple of reflectors and an AS seat. I replaced the tires, tubes and rebuilt the seat. It is road worthy now. The clips were edited and the music produced from my Yamaha keyboard, Super 64 Chromatic Harmonica and GarageBand. Thanks to all at CABE for their interest and support.
Total Beauty...... And thank you
love that you kept it original with all the patina.
Beautiful... l have a '53 almost same shape.. Only mine has the tank.!
For Christmas 1952, my folks got me this Exact model of Schwinn bicycle, with the exception that mine was painted Green and Cream colors. Amazing, I have just reconnected with a boy's special early days.
Nice
Very cool!
A couple months ago I did a similar job on a 26" Catalina. (girls bike). I wish I could put pictures in the comments, it came out really cool. I ride it all the time!
Ya did great! I was afraid you were gunna paint it!
Thanks, keeping my eyes open for a tank.
I love how you the way you kept that patina on the bike making it all original I've got a matching bike just like that but it is a b 107 straight bar what the Schwinn front fender lights for Springer front end and a 6 hole foreleg rack and the original chrome S2 Wheels finding a tank that's got a match that patina is going to be really hard I'm looking for the same thing myself but other than that that was a wonderful video with the music.
Love the harmonica music.
Another nice old bike I enjoy watching this
I just bought a 1951 hornet in a lot worse shape than this one. I made her go and that's it. Left it rusty and all original. I love that you left this one original too and just made it road worthy :)
super nice hornet! Having a hard time finding those truss rods
No fan of videos with no narration but this music is cool at least. Good luck on the project.
Very Kewl. I have a 59,it may not shine but its mine.
Good job.
Bonita bicicleta
cool.. I have a 50 hornet with torpedo light..a bit ruff but nice to look at..🗾🎭
Que hermosas bicicletas
Tengo una poimontik
De carga bicicleton me
Apacionan las bici
That bike would look good in the back of my 1952 three quarter ton fire engine red 5 window cab pick up
Thanks so much for all of the positive comments about the restoration. I still have it placed on the soffit overlooking the kitchen and great room. No it’s not perfect, but it doesn’t take away from the beauty of the Schwinn straight bar. I have entertained adding a tank from time to time. Maybe someday.
That front locking Fork tells me that this Hornet was one up from the standard Schwinn Hornet model but other than that that's a beautiful bike I like the way after when you clean the paint and everything I'm glad you did not repaint it it just shows that the bike has been used honestly without the glitzy Chrome.
Thanks for the comment. It is a nice rider but now it's got a special place in the kitchen.
Delta lights were OEM. Torpedo’s are nice to add and more affordable. Thanks for the comment.
Wish you painted in it’s original factory color.
Would you be able to take pictures of the paint for me I see most of your pinstripes are intact I’m also building a 52 schwinn hornet but mine is a repaint
you looking for a horn and a horn tank?
Good job. how did you save the paint? maybe it was just the exposure, but it looked too rusty to save. I j6st go4 my Great Grandfather's '52 DX. really just needs a polishing and freshening of the mechanicals. original tubes and tires still hold air even.
I own a 1952 girls hornet deluxe that was in the 49rs fire in californai im trying to source parts I need a tab=nk and horn aswell as a front fender with the headlight sand a set of handlebars and a seat but the good part is that it is saved from rotting
Hey cottagethyme, I can't believe you actually found paint under all that rust. Excellent job on the restoration. You might like to check out a couple of vintage bikes I have on my channel also.
Dennis GasparZ
Thanks Dennis. I have it in our kitchen believe it or not. Just have to air the tires twice a year.
Dennis GasparZ I will check you bikes out too.
That's amazing, you still have the bike. Thanks for checkin out my channel.
with what did you clean the paint with?
WD 40 and 0000 steel wool.
Restored?
Joe Doe you bet
cottagethyme the patina retains the value? If it looks “to new “ will the value go down? These are questions,I don’t know anything about bike restorations
Joe Doe, some people like original paint, if there's any left. Some people like to completely restore a bike. It's a personal preference. As far as which is more valuable, I think if you find a bike in really nice condition with it's original finish, that would have the most value.
