Okay, I'm sick in bed watching video after video on your channel making me feel all nostalgic and you keep pointing out all the tiny details that make these games special. I couldn't agree more about what you said of Scaler. I loved looking at game manuals as a kid for some reason, even when most of them were in English and I only spoke French. And yeah, Scaler's manual was one of the coolest things out there. I vaguely remember bringing it to school and redrawing everything in my notebook. Yes, this boss fight can go to hell. What a beautiful looking game! I miss the days when games came with handbooks, too. It was one of life's simple pleasures to buy a new game and read the manual on the way home, getting a feel for what the game would be like and savouring the anticipation.
I know it has been 2 years since you uploaded this video, but I just wanted to thank you for reviewing this game, it has been the very first game along with Tak my brother and I have ever played and without them, perhaps I would never have gotten myself into game development. I a bit surprised you've never talked about the music though. I'm not a sound designer, but I can tell there's a lot of work put in each soundtrack, even though most of them are not memorable. They all stick to the visuals of their specific level and all have a variation of themselves during the arena battles, often pitched-down and sped up to make them feel more dynamic. Each boss battle has a very unique, badass soundtrack that keep me replaying them again and again to this day (espacially the Rattlecrab and the Iguana King's ones, they are worth buying the entire game by themselves). And about the arenas battles, I personally didn't mind them back in the day, but seeing them now with a completely different perspective, I can understand why some people find them boring. But I think their main purpose is to keep the player busy long enough to load the next section of the levels. Have you ever noticed how long the levels are ? I think some of them (eg. iridium or Altus) take about between 20-30 minutes to complete, if not more (providing you're not speedrunning of course). They couldn't keep the game running at 60 fps while continuously loading the next sections of the levels as the player progressed, so they needed a way to slow him down while doing so. Although it was a bit lazy, I think this was the best solution they could come up with to keep a fluid experience. Kinda like in Haven, where the player was constantly harassed by hords of ships while in space, forcing him to slow down to fight them and giving more time for the game to load the planet's textures. This is a pretty common way, even/mostly today, to load important chunks of detailed 3D models whitout massive framedrop issues, and thus ruining the immersion. That's all I had to say. And sorry if I made any english mistakes, I'm not a native-speaker.

I absolutely loved this game as a kid, all the colors, the difficulty, and the awesome transformations with the concept art made it stand out so much. Wish they'd remake it like they did with Legend of Kay.
The pacing in your videos is spot on (which man, even big game reviewers lack), and that keeps them interesting through the whole video! Fantastic job, great video. You need more views!
This was the first video game I ever played. I was about 6-7 years old, and I had been dropped off at an Ikea creche while my parents bought a new sofa. I've been searching for this game for years, with only vague recollections to go off, until that thumbnail triggered my memories. Thank you for this experience.
I've been a bit away from youtube, so I didn't see this video any sooner. But I remember I recommended you this game, even if you were already filming for it. haha. However I'm happy to see you enjoyed this game despite...Yeah. the turret sections. Then again, thank you for reviewing this game which nobody really knows about. :)
Hooooooooooooooly crap I've known of this game for so damn long cause the small family of ladies (2 college-age sisters n their mom) who ran a sort of after-school daycare thing at their house had a bunch of games (mostly Playstation and NES mostly from my memory) and I remember they had this game there and I thought it was so cool but I could NEVER find it later when I tried to in the future so THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS IT BROUGHT BACK SO MANY VIVID MEMORIES!!! I even remembered the intro part where an army guy was electrocuting a blonde kid in an electric chair and the kid saying something bout someone's name before being transported to some other world and the boss in that weird green substance that u had to grind around but I never found out how to beat and the boss who had that force field thing around em and kept pounding the ground repeatedly to make waves in it that u had to avoid and the one level where u were a flying creature thing where u had to catch up with someone else who was also riding one or something, and I even forgot about that flying giant enemy crab boss before you showed it here and I remembered it in all it's slowly swaying glory. God, good times
I really liked this video man! And i would like to add i found this channel a few months back and I will tell you... I love your vids man! I rewatch many of them coz i lile the way you break down each game. Anyway, I want to ask you if you will tackle the shantae series anytime soon
Love how many games Nitro review that I remember seeing in game stores all the time, but never actually bothered playing. I love hearing about these obscure games I never got round to playing.
...Holy SHIT, I ACTUALLY remember playing this one! On the XBOX, oddly enough. It was quite the experience, And I loved the abstract world it portrayed! ...Until my disk decided to die.
He doesnt like Turret levels? Try the "Destroy Airship-Tanker at Drill-Platform"-Mission from Jak II, and do it on Hero-Mode (Hard Mode) I was going mad for literally WEEKS trying to finish that level on Hero Mode. An endless Barrage of enemies doing erratic movements, if (when) you die an absolutely relentless reset point that made you do the mission all over again *regardless* of your progress, a shitty field of view that had you wondering from where you were being shot at, it goes on for at least 15 minutes with no way to speed up the process, and to top it all off: your gun could overheat (how fun, right?). By the time i was able to finish on Hero Mode I only did it by memorizing the spawn points of *every single enemy*. literally one single mistake could ruin everything, since the enemies spawned on a schedule and it could get real crowded real soon if you didnt kill them quickly enough. You dont like turret levels? Give that one a try. You'll piss blood after 2 hours of torture.
+IIIRobIII GOD yes! I have post-traumatic stress disorder from that part of the game, it was horrible haha. I mean, it's definitely one of the hardest turret levels in any video game I've played.
JESUS, THE THIRD GAME IVE FOUND THAT YOUVE REVIEWED THAT IVE PLAYED. My dad was a sucker for all the old games like these and Ive played them all and *omfghhhhh*
+mullet fox Oh dude that game! Zapper was one of those, "its not bad but not good either kinda games". As far as I can remember, there was this one bonus level near the end which was almost impossible...
+mullet fox I remember renting that one years ago. Never could get past level 3 or 4. I swear I got all the collectibles but nothing new seemed to happen once I finished the level.
+Dr Rad MAN I remember seeing that game in Nintendo Power when I was super young. It was made by the team that made Sly Cooper right? Looks real interesting. If a copy ever lands in my hands I'm sure it's more than likely that I'll take a look at it!
This game is more gorgeous than I remember it being, and I bought this thinking it was a Spyro-like title. Was Monsters Inc. Scream Team that bad? I played it on a demo disk and thought it was pretty decent
I LOVE scaler and its truely one of the most beautiful games I've ever had the joy of playing. You nailed all the dips perfectly and described why I love it so much, with a few exceptions. I wish the world knew scaler more than it does because it truely deserves more than it received. I desperatley wish there was a sequel for this game, and I myself only have a couple complaints about it. Youre doing a great job my dude
I still remember buying this from Morrisons for 9.99...........best cash i've ever made my parents spend. I spent weeks looking at it and I really wanted it....still one of my fave games.
+Joe Wall Yeah kind of annoying that the 6th generation is often referred at as the PS2 era, even though the GameCube and Xbox had great games as well. Hell, I didn't even own a PS2 back then but I did have an Xbox and a GameCube.
probably because stupid people mess it up and can't remember very well and could get it wrong and say it was the...7th generation >dunce cap slowly falls on D MAS' head also the PlayStation lineup of consoles are consistently numbered, it's not like Nintendo which has a new name for every platform (not to mention liking the word "new" itself) or Xbox going from 1 to 360 >someone says "the 360 was first" oh...err, right, see, isn't that confusing?
Woah, never heard of this game before, looks kinda fun. BTW, congratulations on getting 10k subscribers, your channel is one of my favorites, I really like your stuff, specially the Silent Hill videos, those are awesome!
Awesome review NitroRad :D Just been going through your videos. I love how you review trilogy's and such. 90% are my childhood from Rayman to Ty! And now hearing about Scaler...I may have to pick this one up. Keep it up you are going to be one of the greats!
One of things you (Nitrorad) bring up often in your videos is the concept of platformers staying platformes, rather than diluting themselves with other gameplay elements. I would be really curious to get your take on the Sly Cooper games as I think they have an interesting evolution in regards to that topic.
I used to love going through the Nintendo 64 game manuals as a kid, especially since I was usually very limited in my video game time. My favorite was Donkey Kong 64's manual. It had so many jokes and pictures of items and characters. It made me super hyped for the weekend to be able to play the game again. I want fun game manuals back! I miss them!
Is that so bad though if were even the case? It would only be if he didn't admit his bias, which of course isn't the case. Typically nostalgia blind reviews do nothing but praise, this on the other hand was a very tame opinion.
I REMEMBER PLAYING THIS GAME! I had a GameCube for the longest time, (it broke when I was a kid but got a new one) and this game was probably one of the first I ever played on that console. I don't remember the actual gameplay, but I DO remember that opening cutscene because it unsettled my young mind (I was around 5) A young kid being tortured via electrocution, screaming in pain as the big guy yells at you THEN turned into a freky blue lizard against your will (the part where he eats the fly grossed me out) made me feel so bad for the poor kid. Oh, and made me cry in terror. I never beat the game, that much I do recall. And I completely forgot the title as the years went on. Sometimes the cutscene would pop into me head and it would make me want to find it, but I never could until today. Now I wanna finish it myself, so hopefully, I can get a copy somewhere. Thanks, Nitro! :)
am I the only one here who never liked this game? I beat it on the ps2 100% only once while blocking my nose and never touch it again. the ending hinted for a possibility of a sequel I remember when seen that I shouted *NOOO!*
Oh man I remember Scaler! I really loved the game, I'm really glad you mentioned that flying boss too because I seriously could not get past it! I thought maybe I just sucked at the game because I was young.. but I'm glad to know it really is an awful boss fight 😂
I've always remembered this game, and I didn't like it a lot but I couldn't remember why before watching this video. It wasn't until you showed the turret section boss that I got PTSD flashbacks to young me dying over and over to it. I NEVER beat the game because of that boss. So you know, thanks for bringing that back to me.
Thank god someone else remembers this game! I used to love this game as a kid. I never really got too far in it, but i loved the character design and the environments.
binging nitrorad videos and surprised to see a little known game like this i rented in my childhood! could never beat it though... great video, even if its one of the older ones
Grinded this game for like 3 years since I was 6 because I was so obsessed with this game. Am 17 now and been playing Dead by Daylight a lot now. Amazed that both of these games were created by exactly the same creator. Artificial mind & movement, or well.... Behaviour has been a pillar for my childhood and even now they are molding the way I live my life. If you ever read this Behaviour, thank you.
i really love the quality of your videos, i think you're oone of those gold youtubers that im happy to watch. My only criticism to most of the reviews is their pacing, or more the talking about 1 subject short, but then talking about something else longer + sidetracking, comparrision to other games are fun but if its repeated constantly it hurts the pace. The game looks fun, i love games where i dont need to play as human characters.
After watching this video and a few others on Scaler, I'm actually really liking this game a lot and I'm considering buying it. The visuals are absolutely amazing, they're so colorful and uniquely alien. And like you said, it may not be the best platformer, but I like games that have set parameters and try to stick to them, instead of adding too much crap or getting too ambitious and trying too much. The game knows what it is and tries to stay simple but consistently good. Awesome video, Nitro Rad!
Everytime I see a new NitroRad video I question why he has such a high-production value and puts a ton of work on his vids but he hasn't blown up yet. He should at least be as popular as something like H3H3 productions.
this was the debut voice role of matthew mercer i think. also can’t believe i didn’t realize how many of my childhood games A2M/behaviour made. the ice age GBA game still lives rent free in my head.

You need more views!
first video I'm watching by you.....within the first few minutes I knew I had to subscribe.
and on the topic of obscure 3d platformers, have you ever tried/heard of malice? a review of that game would be neat.
The Manuel scene made me remember why I used to watch you all the time. And now I think I’ll watch your videos all the time
Wow this game actually looks worth playing. Thanks for making a video on it.
Just noticed in this video that you have a poster of Ryuko from Kill la Kill. Awesome!
I can't believe the Dead By Daylight team are responsible for one of my favorite childhood platformers
I really liked this video man! And i would like to add i found this channel a few months back and I will tell you... I love your vids man! I rewatch many of them coz i lile the way you break down each game. Anyway, I want to ask you if you will tackle the shantae series anytime soon
i am so glad i found this channel! i played alot of ps2 games when i was younger XD... anyways your videos are EXTREMELY entertaining!
scaler is bobby's fursona
People pointing out scalies and furries are not the same make me laugh.
Burn Angel It's funny in an endearing way.
Lizards don’t have fur so I don’t know really what to say.
I have two fursonas: one deer one a dragon.
@@sonicroachdoggjrraven3263 No one cares tho
Love how many games Nitro review that I remember seeing in game stores all the time, but never actually bothered playing. I love hearing about these obscure games I never got round to playing.
One of my favorite gems
personally after playing the ignited trilogy, scaler feel very much like a spyro game
...Holy SHIT,
I ACTUALLY remember playing this one!
On the XBOX, oddly enough.
It was quite the experience,
And I loved the abstract world it portrayed!
...Until my disk decided to die.
He doesnt like Turret levels?
Try the "Destroy Airship-Tanker at Drill-Platform"-Mission from Jak II, and do it on Hero-Mode (Hard Mode)
I was going mad for literally WEEKS trying to finish that level on Hero Mode.
You'll piss blood after 2 hours of torture.
my dick hurt playing that
my dick fell off
I'm SO not looking forward to playing that section
+IIIRobIII GOD yes! I have post-traumatic stress disorder from that part of the game, it was horrible haha. I mean, it's definitely one of the hardest turret levels in any video game I've played.
I love how these are the same guys who made Dead By Daylight.
I saw this game in a shop once but never got to play it so it's cool to see what it was about now.
I can't believe this game killed the Game Cube
And ZooCube.
JESUS, THE THIRD GAME IVE FOUND THAT YOUVE REVIEWED THAT IVE PLAYED.
My dad was a sucker for all the old games like these and Ive played them all and *omfghhhhh*
great review nitro btw just wondering got any plans to review Zapper: One Wicked Cricket? It seems like the kind of game you would review.
+mullet fox BRO I forgot that game existed. I beat that game when I was in like grade 4
+HuntsmanLegacy the boss level?
I fuckin hated zapper lol
My oh MY have I waited for someone to make a decent review of one of my most beloved ps2 games. I cannot thank you enough :'D
+NitroRad Have you ever heard of Rocket: Robot on Wheels for the N64? and would you possibly review it in the future maybe?
+Dr Rad MAN I remember seeing that game in Nintendo Power when I was super young. It was made by the team that made Sly Cooper right? Looks real interesting. If a copy ever lands in my hands I'm sure it's more than likely that I'll take a look at it!
NitroRad Cool! And Yes it was made by Sucker Punch Productions (the people who made Sly Cooper)
ITS SCALER OH MY GOD I FOUND IT THANK YOU ITS BEEN YEARS I COULDNT THINK OF THE NAME ITS THIS THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
I had the same experience. Was scrolling through a rom site and ended up finding it there. So much damn nostalgia
you remind me of James Hetfield. I hope that isn't unflattering. But your reviews are awesome, keep it up.
Thank you for giving me nostalgia moment...i remember every single bit of this game
You should do a review of Billy Hatcher
Seeing Scaler after so many years reminds of the time when you could go and rent video games at your local game/DVD stores
You should play Bill Hatcher and the Giant Egg :)
It's not that bad tbh
He already did that one
Scaler to this day is one of my favorite games to this day still. It was the first game I picked out myself for my PS2
I have scaler
not much to say about it other than the cool aesthetics
yeh
This was my favorite game as a teenager. I loved all the different transformations you could turn into
I still remember buying this from Morrisons for 9.99...........best cash i've ever made my parents spend. I spent weeks looking at it and I really wanted it....still one of my fave games.
Tenny
>Checks prices
>$200
Real talk scaler is such a good name for a platformer
"PS2 era". Otherwise known as the 6th generation.
+Joe Wall Yeah kind of annoying that the 6th generation is often referred at as the PS2 era, even though the GameCube and Xbox had great games as well. Hell, I didn't even own a PS2 back then but I did have an Xbox and a GameCube.
RobinDF The dream cast was also the first 6th gen console. Why they call it PS2 era is beyond me 🤷 male
Dreamcast Dazia Probably because PS2 was the dominating console of the 6th generation
probably because stupid people mess it up and can't remember very well and could get it wrong and say it was the...7th generation
>dunce cap slowly falls on D MAS' head
also the PlayStation lineup of consoles are consistently numbered, it's not like Nintendo which has a new name for every platform (not to mention liking the word "new" itself) or Xbox going from 1 to 360
>someone says "the 360 was first"
oh...err, right, see, isn't that confusing?
Woah, never heard of this game before, looks kinda fun.
BTW, congratulations on getting 10k subscribers, your channel is one of my favorites, I really like your stuff, specially the Silent Hill videos, those are awesome!
So this is the company that shitted on the Spongebob games?
Yep. The very same morons that made Plankton's Robotic Revenge & Heropants.
Awesome review NitroRad :D Just been going through your videos. I love how you review trilogy's and such. 90% are my childhood from Rayman to Ty! And now hearing about Scaler...I may have to pick this one up. Keep it up you are going to be one of the greats!
A2M... hehehe...
Edit: Ok, you talked about that.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Monsters Inc. Scream Team is an extremely fun game, man. It was one of my first, and I still enjoy it.
Yass Nitro my wife!!!
One of things you (Nitrorad) bring up often in your videos is the concept of platformers staying platformes, rather than diluting themselves with other gameplay elements. I would be really curious to get your take on the Sly Cooper games as I think they have an interesting evolution in regards to that topic.
20s you will be missed😞😞😞😞😞😞😞😞
BROOOOO this was such a part of my child hood that I forgot and just had floating around in the back of my head
they chose A2M because AM2 was already taken
And Don't get started about who took 2am.
I smell the nostalgia goggles in here.....
+Leinad “leinadlink” link
I never played this game as a kid. In fact I only first heard about it a couple of months ago.
NitroRad Welp, it looked like it to me. Nice vid dude! You should take care of your games though.
+NitroRad Great review of a decent game. 9:50 you went full Kazuhira Miller though and it was GLORIOUS! :D
Is that so bad though if were even the case? It would only be if he didn't admit his bias, which of course isn't the case. Typically nostalgia blind reviews do nothing but praise, this on the other hand was a very tame opinion.
I feel like this game is either your favourite childhood game or you've never heard of it with little in between
kh2 = best ps2 action role playing game?
I never played the game, but it doesn't look all that great to me. I wouldn't spend money on it.
I remember this game, I couldn't beat it as a kid but loved it.
Thank you for reminding me of this game!
This is why I like you more than other reviewers, you find lesser known shitty games. Good job :3
Thank god someone else remembers this game! I used to love this game as a kid. I never really got too far in it, but i loved the character design and the environments.
Played this game a lot when I was younger, and I couldn’t find it for the longest time, so happy I did
This was my childhood and those swamp worms were in my nightmares
binging nitrorad videos and surprised to see a little known game like this i rented in my childhood! could never beat it though... great video, even if its one of the older ones
Wow this brings me back. I never thought I'd see a review on this game of all games.
If you ever read this Behaviour, thank you.
it's really nice to find someone else who knows about this game, great review :)
My my! Now would that be........
*THE FIRST GAME I EVER PLAYED!?*
i really love the quality of your videos, i think you're oone of those gold youtubers that im happy to watch.
Awesome video, Nitro Rad!
im so glad i wasn't the only person that couldn't do that damn boss fight as a kid
Everytime I see a new NitroRad video I question why he has such a high-production value and puts a ton of work on his vids but he hasn't blown up yet. He should at least be as popular as something like H3H3 productions.
First time I played this, was on a bootleg copy of the game. Still loved it, so much that I just bought a real copy years later.
this was the debut voice role of matthew mercer i think. also can’t believe i didn’t realize how many of my childhood games A2M/behaviour made. the ice age GBA game still lives rent free in my head.
Scaler is one of my favorite PS2 games, and I actually got my copy autographed by his voice actor at my very first convention by sheer luck!
Ce jeu a juste changé ma vie quand j'étais petit . Tous mes surnoms dans les jeux c'est Scaler45 . J'adorais ce jeu plus que tout même ratchet and Clank !
