Bring the battery inside, let it warm to room temp then slow trickle charge for as long as it takes. Also check all wire connections especially ground to frame before buying parts. Apologies if you know all this. Good luck. 🐮
Taylor, A quick tip for you when hooking up any battery, always unhook the negative first when removing the battery, and hook it up last when installing it. Saves all the sparking. ( shorting it out) . Great video.
A good mechanic once told me a bad starter can ruin a good battery, and conversely a bad battery can ruin a good starter, so when he came to those kind of problems, he usually replaced both.
Taylor, sounds to me like it's actually turning over, just real slow. Point your camera at the fan or alternator and review the footage. If you've got a dead dead battery, it'll turn over slow even if you're jumping it because your dead battery sucks up amps along with the starter.
Lightly tap on the starter with a hammer. It's likely seized and can be broken loose. Also, better off using your battery charger to jump it as it will throw higher voltage in 'start' mode.
If you don't have good voltage to your starter, you're starter will sound like that, so you need to get either a new battery or charge that battery for a couple days and have good Voltage in your battery.
Taylor ,,,,on all car batteries the handle on both sides of the battery has a slip section where you can push the handle down , n push to the side and slip it out of the battery easy peasy
Hi Taylor Always enjoy your videos. Sounds like lots has happened to your F100. Did the serial number tag get changed? You mentioned that it’s a 1974. The grill in the truck was used for model years 1976 & 1977. 1976 was the last year for the 360 motors. The 351/400M series started in 1977. So, I believe you have a 77 model.
I really like your truck. Here's a few tips that may/may not save you money and time. 1. Always shut off the vehicle that you are jump starting with before you hook the battery cables on the battery. Voltage spike when you connect the cables will damage the ECM ( Engine control module.) The damage may not show up right away, but it could in time. The same goes after the vehicle you are jump starting is running. Shut off the vehicle before you disconnect the cables. 2. If you turn the nuts around on the battery cable clamp, the hex on the nut will stick out farther from the clamp so you can get your wrench on it. Yours is on backwards. 3. Before you invest in a new starter, I'd clean all the connections on the battery cables at the solenoid, starter, and the ground cables. You can do a simple "voltage drop test" with a multimeter that will tell you if you have a poor connection. I could explain how to do it, but it's easier if you google it. Good luck, and keep your videos coming! I enjoy watching them!
Nice looking olf Ford. Are you sure thats a 74. It has a 76 grille on it. Unless someone did some parts swapping I think you have a 76 Ford. I always liked the grille on a 76 more than the 74s. They just had a flashier look
Conspiracy theory: Your VIN number says it was a two-wheel drive, auto transmission and V6 engine? Sounds fishy. Maybe the door was replaced rather than the truck being modified or maybe it was a stolen truck and someone was trying to hide the truck's identity. Before replacing the starter, give the battery a good overnight charge to make sure you are getting enough juice to the starter or try bench-testing the starter.
It sounds like someone changed out the door of your truck if nothing matches. The plate riveted to the door is the warranty plate, not the legal VIN. Do a google search and it will list the locations on your truck where the legal VIN is stamped.
Loved the video Taylor friendly tip when you charge a battery or take one set it on something so it's not sitting on the concrete something about concrete floors an the cold drains the battery
"What ails me? " is such a Maine expression. I bet some people are wondering exactly what you mean. I know what your saying I say it all the time. You'll never hear a New Yorker say "What ails you" hahaha
Take the battery and have it's capacity tested, cca may not be ample enough to effectively turn starter to it's full potential. Auto parts store would probably test for free. Best wishes on your quest !
Good morning tay that is awesome truck you have from that year to 79 are my favorite trucks I really love them puppies you have thank you for showing that great truck have a great day love all your videos from Minnesota
Would of enjoyed it more if the beast would of started up for you lol ! Don't be so quick to replace thebstarter because it sounds like the battery ain't delivering enough juice so charge the battery up or get a battery with full charge then it should fire right up! Your truck is built ford tough remember lol
Great content Taylor!! Thank you!! Please have the battery checked before changing the starter !! If the battery went dead and then froze it probably is trash especially if it's a few years old. I have found they don't last like they used to. Also each time you park the truck disconnect the negative battery post if it will be sitting for long time. Stay safe and God bless !!! Eddy
Hello Again Taylor. Sorry I haven’t commented on the last few posts of yours. I surely don’t miss watching them though. I really like the one last week when you took us on a snowmobile tour. That was so beautiful. One thing though, your skin must be as think as a polar bears. I can’t believe you are out in bone chilling weather without any gloves most of the time and never with a hat. I’ll never get over the things you do on the farm and not even afraid to tackle any project. Brent is so fortunate to have you. Ok, please take care, be safe and stay warm. Waiting for my next video from you to see what the surprise is this week.
I had a 1973 f-100 back in late 1980s it was a fun truck to drive. Sold it to a friend and it started on fire while he was filling it at a gas station with his horse trailer loaded with 2 horses on the truck. Never sell a vehicle to someone you know. You can never have too many dogs in your life, it is nice you guys have a few. My last dog passed away the other day he was 20 years old, we had a 16 year old that passed in December, I cannot remember not having multiple dogs since I was a child. Stay safe and healthy Tay.
One of your best videos shows you having some fun as us in Wisconsin lol. Felt more connected with you than ever. Just an idea. Have a sit down video like live chat and play have I ever with the boss. Let a lot of us new viewers learn about you both and life as farmers and as people just a thought.
Taylor should use the ole girl for ur daily driver an keep ur new trk. For good. No barn smell in new trk. Just sayin. That ole. Trk is a friggen gem. Would like to have it
Hi Taylor awesome video again thanks for sharing .Shame you didn't get the old truck fired up but made for a different kind of video so great. You'll get there with the renovation it just takes time and of course money 💰 take care and stay safe 👍 😊.
We had a 1978 F-350 with a dump body on it here. Decent truck although it had the 351 m and it also. Ford before and since has built better engines than that particular one. I'll track that size a 300 inline 6 would have been the perfect match.
I have done 2 -75's 2- 78's and a 79 Ford all down to the frame. & (Cough )1 chebby The chebby didn't make it 10'000 miles till a car ran a stop sign and wiped it out . Keep at it and it will come together !
Nice truck that's when Ford built good trucks hope to see more of it as your project progresses on it. It's nice to see some one wanting to take a old truck and make it new again.😊
golden retrievers they are quite the dogs they are the funnest loving dogs that just have nothing but energy!! my friend has one and midas is a jewel of a golden!!
Pearl white would b a nice color. Maybe a little metal flake in the paint. Either way pretty bad a-s truck. I have no doubt u will get it going and up to par. Awesome video. Almost 15 thousand subs and growing. Wow!!! So happy for you.
That Dent Side has amazingly little rust for that part of the country. Doesn't get much better than puppies and dentsides. 2 of my favorite things! AMD sheetmetal makes really nice bed sides, I've used several and they are nearly as good as NOS ones. That is definitely a body swap. Electronic ignition and the 351m/400 engines were not available in 74. The 351m is not nearly as bad an engine as the internet says.
You could probably rebuild the starter yourself, just new brushes and bushings, clean the commutator, grease the bendix and your good to go. Parts are probably less than $20. Take care
Great video. Great trucks. Those things were exactly what you named her. The Beast. They were workhorses. Good luck in getting her running. God Bless. By the way, Loved this video. Shows what an incredible person you are.
Sometimes the hole just keeps getting deeper on a supposedly simple project. At least trucks of that vintage have user-serviceable parts. Enjoy the frozen ground while it lasts. In our part of Ohio things are a real slop wallow (the proverbial January thaw).
does the door vin match the actual vin? could be a different door? get a lmc truck catalog for it . rockauto also seems like a good place for parts. autobody specialties in middlefield ct carrys body panels. good luck seems like truck has good bones.
Goldens are the best. We just had a litter of golden doodles and my daughter wants to keep them all. We have three left I hope we don’t have to keep them all!
Hi miss taylor , i am from tennessee, on my 1976 ford 4x4 250 to start good , put on heavy cables and a napa starter , you may try another battery sometimes a weak battery is hard to jump, enjoy your videos
When I raised goldens, I was lucky. By the time they were ready to go, I was ready to have them gone! They sure were cute little dickens!! You hooked up the one wire so it will have to be pulled apart again to get the battery out! Great video Taylor. Not used to not seeing the farm in your videos!
Great video Tay. IDK for the alternator, if I'd go wrench around with a torque wrench, maybe a breaker bar? To each their own, hopefully you can get it going and can make some progress on updating the F100 how you want.
Well . . . at least the tires weren't flat.
great video Taylorit was nice seeing where you come fromand your house which by the way is huge
Always clean the battery terminals and cables to clean material ! It will make a big difference !
You are a beautiful young woman and u are really hard worker I really like watch your video
Bring the battery inside, let it warm to room temp then slow trickle charge for as long as it takes. Also check all wire connections especially ground to frame before buying parts. Apologies if you know all this. Good luck. 🐮
Cool truck hope you get it running again soon.
Even cooler you live in a barndominion.
Taylor, A quick tip for you when hooking up any battery, always unhook the negative first when removing the battery, and hook it up last when installing it. Saves all the sparking. ( shorting it out) . Great video.
Well you took the fun out of welding the wrench to the metal around the positive post 🤷🏻♂️😂
Positive
😊Thanks for the video and know you will get truck running. Real life... just like farming!😂
Thanks so much for watching! Hopefully we’ll get her going. Yep it’s always something 😅☺️
A good mechanic once told me a bad starter can ruin a good battery, and conversely a bad battery can ruin a good starter, so when he came to those kind of problems, he usually replaced both.
A good mechanic is one who repairs, not changes!
Always disconnect the ground cable before the hot cable and reconnect the hot first.
My girl said the battery is dead as a door nail, I almost had a tear in my eye, and when she pulled it by herself ❤😊
Probably would be a good idea to get a multi meter and check voltages down to the starter first . Might save some money. Thx
Good tip, thank you!
Just measure the voltage not at the starter, but at the battery!
Ditch the bed, less body work to do, plop and nice stake body on it, stake bodys are the best for farm trucks.
You a good man to help you
Why do you have 6 dogs? "Well, I don't know." Best answer ever. 🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮
It's always nice to get away from the farm and do something else. I had very little time when I was on the farm to do anything
Your '74 Ford is sweet. Can't wait to see it fired up and running.
Thank you! Hopefully we’ll get her back on the road soon
Your a farm lady for sure
It's good that you get some me time
Taylor, sounds to me like it's actually turning over, just real slow. Point your camera at the fan or alternator and review the footage. If you've got a dead dead battery, it'll turn over slow even if you're jumping it because your dead battery sucks up amps along with the starter.
Love the front custom plate "Moove"😊.
☺️ I had to buy it!
Those doggies are so funny!! Like the slow mo action 😁🌌🌠
They are a riot sometimes 😂
Great vid once again have a great day keep safe and enjoy your day
Tay keep you battery off the concrete floor believe it or not the floor will drain you battery
Rave! It is not the floor that reduces the charge, but the cold!
Awesome truck I had one like it same motor and Trans mine was a 1977 loved it
Lightly tap on the starter with a hammer. It's likely seized and can be broken loose. Also, better off using your battery charger to jump it as it will throw higher voltage in 'start' mode.
the hammer trick always worked on my old clunkers
Nice truck Tay your hard worker
Thank you!😃
Another great vid! Stay warm and safe
Beautiful woman and a beautiful truck
Nice Vid again
Interesting to see you at Home. Maybe show more?
Love those older Ford trucks!
The best!😉
Look who's the auto mechanic, That was a fun episode, you can do more of those if you want. I'll totally watch them. God Bless
If you don't have good voltage to your starter, you're starter will sound like that, so you need to get either a new battery or charge that battery for a couple days and have good Voltage in your battery.
Nice purple easter egg under the truck. 😊
😆 the dogs and there toys!
Taylor ,,,,on all car batteries the handle on both sides of the battery has a slip section where you can push the handle down , n push to the side and slip it out of the battery easy peasy

Taylor I was thinking the other day about sap season I almost talked to a distant uncle about getting a jump start on it but I was good.
Early 70s Ford pickups are my favorite. Thanks for the video.
Mine too! Thanks so much for watching 🙃
Hope you make some videos when you start making syrup
That's the plan! I hope you’ll join us😀
Hi Taylor. You should be more careful with that brush, you're gonna scratch the paint...lol
Take the battery and have it's capacity tested, cca may not be ample enough to effectively turn starter to it's full potential. Auto parts store would probably test for free. Best wishes on your quest !
Vaseline on battery post is good for a good connection great video Taylor keep warm 😉
Good Morning Taylor how are you. I know whats wrong with it.....it aint got no gas in it 😅
Good morning tay that is awesome truck you have from that year to 79 are my favorite trucks I really love them puppies you have thank you for showing that great truck have a great day love all your videos from Minnesota

I love that old ford. Thanks for the video 🤘.
Thanks! Glad you turned in!😀
Fact! That dog is a pitcher, not a catcher.
😅
keep it real Ms taylor
Would of enjoyed it more if the beast would of started up for you lol ! Have you thought about maybe the driver's door isn't original? And it was always 4x4?
I love your truck repair videos Tay!
I'm not for sure if you did but when you're jumping a dead battery your red truck needs to be running and i think u got a bad battery in ur old truck
It is funny when you do something you are such a serious look and your face if anybody ever videos themselves they would see that they do too
