- We perform live shows every week, but learning to capture it for UA-cam was whole new ball game haha. "No Roots" was our first video, and we filmed it live with a single microphone. It took us a few more videos to get the equipment and experience we needed to master it!

Flannel shirts, blue jeans, one mic, no flashing lights, no smoke, no leaping across the stage, just flat out pure talent! That's the Petersens, and that's why we love them!
A day without the Petersen's would be a sad for me. I literally listen to your music off and on all day with You Tube and Alexa. There are no words to express my gratitude for the enlightenment you bring to this 79-year-old man. Thanks, and God bless.

Julianna just has that tone that can't be taught. Can't get enough of her sound. BRAVO!!
How is it possible that one family gets:
1) The looks - each and everyone of your family is simply beautiful.
2) A perfect singing voice and an ability to sing perfectly.
3) The musical talent to play an instrument and the discipline to practise to the level your at.
4) Great intern relationships between the family members, so that you can even play in a band together.

The music was amazing, but i especially love how happy the mandolin player looks singing this. The older sisters are so stoked for her, and she just looks like she's on the verge of laughing the entire time. Made me smile the whole song :)

Emmett Franz is an exceptional dobroist! I really like how he tears aggressively into his solo here, and I love what he does in the lower register of his solo (if that's how to describe it). The latter strikes a balance between his ability to be subtle and nuanced while introducing a hint of controlled chaos. It's very cool.

I love the arrangement on this piece. The girls' harmonies on the bridge are just perfect and Emmett's Dobro chops are top notch. On one hand it's hard to believe Emmett's not a full time studio and tour musician but on the other hand he fits so perfectly in this group it's hard to imagine these songs without him.
I love this group - the sound, the looks, the smiles, Katie, the songs - but Julianne is a pure joy to watch. I can't stop smiling while watching her.

Jerry Douglas may be the greatest dobro (American resonator guitar) player of all time but Emmett is going to catch him sooner or later. And this song was a perfect pick for little sister's voice. Update from 2 years ago. I was in a convienence store tonight and I heard a cover of "No Roots" playing. It sounded good but it just didn't have Julianne Petersen singing.

A week ago I didn't know this song existed. Now I can't get it out of my head. Playing this video 20 times probably hasn't helped.
I actually first discovered "No Roots" (the original version from Alice Merton) back in November 2017 on Music Choice Pop Hits, also played later that day on the radio station.
