    You always do such great reviews. :) I still love my trusty Coleman 424 (suitcase) guide series stove. With a small Stansport propane adapter these stoves can run THREE types of fuel: White Gas, Unleaded and Propane. If you clean and lube the o-rings on the adjustment valves (even on a new stove) you will have a LOT of flame adjustability. Cheers!

    They both can do the job so that's nice. Since the tops come off, with your skills you should be able to take apart the broken valve and get a replacement. Hopefully it wouldn't be that difficult to research.

    I have a Nature Hike version of those and with that case I spent $85 on Amazon. I works great and uses the jet boil style iso propane canisters. I use the big ones and it does just fine. In the winter I use a USB powered canister warmer which is a game changer. I really like the genesis but it's way too expensive

    Great review! Now I'm curious about a couple of things;
    1. can the burner head from one unit be swapped to the other unit? ( this might be a cheap upgrade to the cofiyard to help improve boil times)
    2. which unit uses more fuel to boil that same volume of water?
    side note, I would be interested to hear if jetboil has repair parts available for the Genesis, at that price it needs to be repairable IMO

    I’m a bit surprised jetboil doesn’t offer parts. We got the jetboil for ourselves on Megan’s recommendation, and it hasn’t missed a beat for us. The price was quite the pill to swallow at the time, but for the space it saves and the overall quality… and the fact it’s worked now for many years getting beat up in our truck where it lives… I don’t regret the purchase

    Thank you for another informative video. Overtime the Jetboil might also save fuel over time. I would also like to know if it would perform the same in cold or wind. I am using an old Colman red nail camping stove, that my father gave me when my parents had aged out of camping. Colman has parts for every part of the stove the stove even 60+ years from production date. I bet you can get the part for the Jetboil. I purchased a mechanic grade set of basic tools when I purchased my first car and almost 60 years later I am still using those tools and I have been given replacement tools for any thing that has broken. If I need a specialty tool I will purchase a cheap knock off if I figure I won't need it very often, but for things I will be using a lot, I have learned, by quality and cry once. Thank you for taking the time to perform the side by side comparison.

  • @CJFranciss
    @CJFranciss 21 день тому

    I got a cofiyard stove to replace a Coleman based purely on cost and it's compact size.
    In normal conditions it's not bad. Will cook and boil and simmer to a standard that will get the job done.
    The big let down is the slightest bit of wind and it loses all heat. Not al windy at the beach trying to cook is impossible. Even just blows the flame right out having to re ignite constantly.
    It also absolutely chews through the gas. Maybe because of the longer cooking time.
    But at $10-$15 per 480ml bottle it would take long to exceed the cost of a jet boil if you are camping regularly.
    Knowing what I know now I wouldn't buy it and would just spend the extra money for something that actually does what it says it does.

    Would have been nice to see a comparison with both burners going at once. I mean each stove with both at the same time, because if one has a better regulator, it may have shown an even bigger difference. I don’t know exactly how it works, but apparently some regulators work much much better in the cold. Anyway, in mild temps, if you just go once in a while, at 1/4 the price?
    For family car camping, we have very limited space. I’ve been using one of those butane stoves, but it’s one burner in a briefcase style plastic box. It’s a lot of space for a single burner. Maybe I’ll pick one up for next season.

    Actually a great test and comparison. Not leaning one way or the other. It is what it is. The Jet Boil is a great product. It falls into the “buy once, cry once” category. Yes, it’s broke to a point and nothing lasts forever. Like others have said it’s worth following up with Jetboil and see about a fox or a part. On the other hand we have the “ cheap Chinese knock-off”. It’s certainly affordable and measures up to a point. Some will go with one or the other for their own reasons. There’s a market for both, “unfortunately”. It’s hard to compete with the price of the (fill in the country) knock-off but “usually” not the quality. Go easy on me I did put usually in quotes. 😊 Thanks for sharing Jason

To be honest, I could care less about boil tests. I just need it to boil. I can do other things while I'm waiting a few more minutes for water to boil.
