I love this store!
made me homesick...i was born-n-bred in new york...just moved to chicago right before covid....i miss new york....thanx for a little piece of it...stay well...be well....peace always...rocky
Hey Rocky, good to hear from you. Generation is one of the last great record stores in nyc. I was just there a few weeks back and had some amazing finds. See link for video if you’re interested ua-cam.com/video/HTA_1mMiHQI/v-deo.html
Also makes me homesick as I grew up in Greenwich Village Back in the 80s and 90s I live in Westchester but I won't travel by public transportation due to my medical condition I can't wear a face covering causes me too much anxiety long for the day as well and fish coming so I think in the past and we can go to Manhattan and shop again for records. Luckily I have a friend who drives a car he takes me to Connecticut we got a couple places in Connecticut and Westchester went last weekend to great record stores call disc and dad in Bethel Connecticut and Gerosa also in Ct. really fun since my wife and I have getting into vinyls together!!!
I'm from Chicago but moved to New York!
Let's hope that the store can stay open and enough people still buy music in physical form and support the local record stores.
Heaven.
It certainly is!
I was checking out your older videos Brendon, didn't realise you made one of these videos way back at the end of 2019. It’s great that you’ve done more record store visits and showed more stores since!
Yeah when I first made this one it did nothing. Granted I think my newer ones represent the stores far better than this one. That said, the store no longer has all of this content. It’s been watered down so I’m really glad I made this video. Interesting what happened is this one started picking up in views to the point I decided I should make a second one and then they took off. But glad you found this oldie but goodie! 👍
Thanks for the link on this video! I love to see new places, especially record stores!
You’re welcome!
Grew up in Jersey. Mom started letting me take the path in to Manhattan in 8th grade (Circa 1991). The amount of music I found in GR changed my life. now at 44 years old, I long for the old school record shop like this. Seriously spent about 200 hours in this shop selecting my CD's, Records and finding new bands. :(
Man I know what you mean!!!! We are the same age. I didn’t grow up in NYC, I’m originally from Florida where we had a Peaches Music that I spend just as much time in before turning 16 then I worked in music stores until leaving for college. I really miss that time.
We have a large record store in Easton pa and a good one at Qmart in Quaker Town.
It’s good to hear you still have a few places to go. It’s a shame these places are closing and becoming a thing of the past.
"One of the Last". That always breaks my heart whenever I hear that. So many people today, particularly younger people, just don't appreciate the value of the physical format, whether it be lp or cd. When I was a kid, record stores were everywhere, and we were always told that pirating music would kill the industry. Now, with downloading it's become a reality.
The “real” record store is a lost art form and social hangout. Young people today have no idea what they are missing out on. We have to enjoy these places while they still exist.
@@BrendonSnyder I used to love Tower Records. They catered to every musical taste imaginable. I would spend hours in the metal section while my spouse would spend time in the classical section.
They moved the dollar and less records downstairs since last year and got rid of a lot of 45s and cheap stuff that used to be on the street level floor. They used to put the trash records in milk crates outside on the sidewalk but now do that with CDs that won't sell. The store took the remaining stock of Bleecker Street records that closed a few years ago. The walk from the Bleecker Street 6 train is a bit longer than in the video but not that bad. West 4 Street station is about the same distance and Broadway-Lafayette as well. The store people have always been nice in my experience.
I was there this past week and it’s very sad that 90% of the CD’s are gone. I’m glad I was able to document the store while it was still great. And yes the video is edited…I don’t think people would really want to see the whole walk from the Bleecker Street subway station 😂.
Last time I was there, the vinyl was on the right and everywhere else was cds
Does the grumpy looking Asian guy, the goth girl, grumpy white guy with tats still work there? And Shaun Truent !
0:23 lady kinda looked a bit annoyed lol.
Been in here but I forgot the name of it. thanks
It’s a great record shop and one of the last real music stores.
Is it still open?
Yes it’s still open, but it mostly sells vinyl now. The CD selection is very small.
Cool have not been there since 99 wowwwww didn't think it was still there. Had GD stuff there. But Customer Clerk where horrible Nasty. Hope it got cheaper now cuz everything is online I will be down there For my New Testament album in Jan or Feb when it comes out
‘99 was actually the first year I went there and I have been going ever since. I keep expecting it to close but thank goodness it hasn’t. All I can say about the service is that it was good today. I hope when you visit in the new year it restores your faith that it’s worth it.
Brendon Snyder me how are the prices today in 2019 are they cheaper now cuz in 99 CD Album Cassette DVDS where so in demand for them. I went to Sounds on ST Marks Astor place and Venus Records .is Disc O RAMA still around down there Bleeker BOBS was GD but to expensive for most of there stuff
I typically only shop the used stuff and those prices are reasonable if not really good. I think the new stuff especially vinyl is over priced but no one can compete with the online world like Amazon. The shirts were only $20 each which I think was a steal.
hi would u recommend buying band tees there? Or where would u recommend buying band tees from?
Absolutely! They have so many great shirts. Really good quality too for a great price.
Brendon Snyder thank u, on my way 🏃🏻♀️
