I'm in Alabama. Have been to New York City once and for several reasons, I swore I would never go back. Here's what I loved about the Mazzy's video though. We are all listening to the same music wherever we are from. Music is limitless and has no walls. The same records that are in NYC, are down here in Alabama too. I don't mean to sound cheesy or trite. But, I think music is the great equalizer. I really love the video.
You are right, but what I am finding is each part of the country also has a certain sauce to what they were / are listening to and so there is some variation in the regions West, Midwest, South, Northeast all have stuff in common and then particular stuff to that region that is very good, but rare in the other regions.
Mazzy this video reminded me back in the 80's when every Saturday afternoon five of us used to go to record shops in Birmingham UK great memories and arguments ahem debates about what was bought! How I miss those days! Great video Mazzy
Forest Hills is where I grew up and The Ramones went to my HS. The mural was put up maybe 8 or 9 years ago. There is also another one where they lived called The Ramp. They hung out there always and where they came up with their musical ideas.
Very nice post, Norman. Living in the East Village for over 40 years, I've been going to Academy since they had their old store. The nicest guys work there. Along with A-1 on 6th St, they are my two favorite used record stores. But the others are good too!
It was a shame that Dave too I’ll and missed out on this. I always enjoy seeing record stores, I was just going to say I see another Flipper and then you said it lol. I love that album. Seemed like prices were pretty good
This was a nice gathering in New York and combined with a hobby. It was nice to see that so many people, especially young people, are interested in collecting vinyl records.
Cheers , great video . Nice to see the side walks of New York. Your friend Mike got a Barry Harris lp , live in Tokyo? Great record and Barry speaks a lovely introduction In Japanese
Mazzy, sorry i didn't get to meet with you and the guys. You visited those two stores in the city that are my local shops, Academy on 12th street and A - 1 records. I was at A 1 records on Thursday. Only two cool record stores in the entire Island of Manhattan? Stranded sells more of the new records. Unfortunately NYC has become to expensive to run a proper record shop, high rents killed it. Did you get a chance to walk down Saint Marks Pls? its totally changed. I hope you do better at the WFMU record fare. I’m in north Jersey, too far with mass transit. I needed a ride, no record people around here.
Hey Mazzy, great to see you in NYC. Um, the record fair is for WFMU, not WMFU, ~~~ tho that IS a great name for a station~~~ They're at 91.9 fm & definitely worth checking out. (Their first record fair in 4 years, because, you know, covid.)
I’ve never seen someone flip past Led Zeppelin to get to Little Feat! My audible “Nooooooo!” could get me kicked out of my hotel room in Sweden….stay tuned.
oh man, seeing that Rainy Day on the wall at that first place, I wanted to reach out and grab it to check the price. It was never (yet) reissued and goes for $$$. Great to see familiar faces trawling the record stores together. Cheers!
I don't know what that first store is, (I live on Long Island, so would love to know), but I enjoy hearing that first Bad Brains tape, um record, again. ROIR was a tape-only label out of NYC, fwiw.
Thanks Mazzy. Great Impression of what NYC has to offer regarding record collecting. You made my day with that cocoRosie Animals track. For me in the same category as Coin operated boy from the Dresden Dolls. Love it!
@@fidelios_frequency I have the actual painting of it, not the print :) I do have the framed prints of the Beatles, Velvet Underground (Silver Years) and a bunch of others.. I've collected Shaq for years.. love him. That was the first thing I noticed in your apartment :) Nice taste you have there.
@@VinylPiper wow the painting!?!? 😳 we the prints of the Beatles, Stones, KISS, The Imposters, Muscle pool party. Still haven’t framed the David Bowie yet.
At 9:26 you passed a copy of Iggy Pop's "Metallic K.O." an album I should have listened to before buying - people talking about it (Lester Bangs, John Peel etc..) lead me to believe it must be OK and worth a couple of dollars - it isn't, it is worth Nothing - it's awful, it's on par with an original mix of "Raw Power" which induces such violence in me I can't control it - Probably the worst album ever made, That's why they killed David Bowie, They waited 40/50 years so they would get away with it but that is why they killed him. Iggy Pop is an idea not a great artist, you don't get better with age you just get older and embarrassing e.g., Lou Reed.

@@darkspar72 The Neds! Fantastic!
Significant LOL at Arnaldo correcting the poor handling - read: GLARE - from the record showing by Mazzy. 🤣
I call it as I see it 😂
Excellent video, love those fun trips w/ friends having good time in such a wonderful city and sharing their common passion for good music!
Wow, certainly that last place was very NYC. Great video of NYC record stores! Hope you do another to the boroughs and beyond!

You went to Rock ‘N Roll High School?!? 💕🥰💕
I did and I used to go to Rockaway Beach! It’s also the home of Simon and Garfunkel..Walter Becker of Steely Dan.

What an enjoyable video to watch. Highlighting the friendships as the result of a hobby is wonderful.
Great video! I was in NYC this summer and went to most of these places, which made watching the video extra fun!
Met you at the WFMU rec/fair. I'm the guy with the Flying Burrito Brothers t shirt on, and I love Ann Peebles too. Hope you had fun here in NYC.
Some cool stores, I liked the one with all the stuff on the ceiling the best.
Great seeing you today and thanks for the photo op with you and Michael Fremer
Thank you for the journey.

I'd like to know what the Beatles and Stones thought about the Kinks.
Looks like a fun trip, excellent production!
Many thanks!
Two titans of the VC, Mazzy and Dom, on screen, together. My monitor exploded.
I like Mikes selections. Iam a hardcore jazz freak. Nice stuff mike!… I have that Rollins you were looking at off the wall.
From a Queens boy. I hope you had a wonderful time.

Wow, I will have to visit A1 records next time I am in the city. I have been to the others. I love academy records
The Slovakian guy was charming. When I shop ITW it’s: wall, new used arrivals, world, store shirt, cashier.
I’ve never seen someone flip past Led Zeppelin to get to Little Feat! My audible “Nooooooo!” could get me kicked out of my hotel room in Sweden….stay tuned.
You can spin that cube sculpture you passed in Astor Place. Great video Mazzy, it’s making me a little homesick.
They locked the cube. You can’t spin anymore. 🙁
@@fidelios_frequency Oh no! I read a Time Out from July that said it was spinning again. That’s a shame.
Great video enjoyed every minute and I even got a mention 👍

Also Seattle .. Any record shops in Seattle that you recommend please ?
Great video. I really dig your adventures. Well done.

Man they cleaned up the village vinyl stores since i used to scrounge there in the 80s

Go to Revilla records in Nj. Worth the visit.
Looks like fun. Let me know if you ever make it to Tulsa. You’d love the Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie centers.

Dude, Crazy Eddie is practically giving it all away!
Fun video to watch 😎
Awesome Video! They always Yuppie things up in these stores.
You need to come down to Princeton, to Princeton Record Exchange.
Academy Records on 12th Street between 1st Avenue and Avenue A is where I bought most of my records! 😲 😲 😲 😲 😊
I have lovely Australian press of the Ann Peebles.
Arnoldo, my Shag ‘Summer of 76’ painting would fit right into your place :)

Welcome to NYC Mazzy. Which I could have met and said hello. Maybe next time.
NYC used to be such an awesome place for record stores. now it’s just OK.

Was that Melanie singing at the end of the video? Or am i wrong?
It was Coco Rosie. Two sisters

You should do a VC Wanker video.
i don’t know Richie. what’s that saying? “Don’t ask the question unless you’re ready for the answer” 😂
Are you going to ROCCO'S pastry place on Bleecker, Mazz? and film there? Come on, man, you know it makes sense. It's historic. I can give directions.
Gosh- it would be nice if you gave us a list of the stores and their addresses!
More concrete for the concrete jungle 😆
