BEST TUTORIAL EVER! UA-cam's Algorithm showed up this because these days I've been looking to buy the A7III. But what I've found out is the best DaVinci Resolve Workflow ever. Thank you!
Dude, holy heck. I've been struggling through tutorials where people blaze through the details and don't explain or show anything. Your video on the other hand is the clearest, most well taught tutorial I've come across. You are absolutely awesome and I can't wait to explore more of your videos!
I'm glad someone made a video on A7iii videomaking as its the only one I have and its 8 bit.. these days its mostly A7IV, A7SIII, FX3, FX30 with Slog 3 and S cinetone.....
This video helped me a lot to understand colorgrading in post. i was worried about fiming with 3 different camera's and notice the difference between them...but now i know how to edit it to make it look the same...thanks!!
Your teaching skills are on another level! Can't wait so see more. I learned more in this 10min than in the last month watching useless Davinci tutorials 😅 THANK YOU!!!
amazing! Thanks! By any chance can you tell us how do you expose Slog2? I understrood you expose normally and putting your highlight to 90 IRE? /like the clouds) ... ? Or do you overexpose? Thank in advanced .. subscribed!
Righteous! Thank you for doing this. Really clear and snappy. I have a colorist question though. I have the RX0M2 Sony. It's a gopro sized camera, but with a large sensor - making it NOT a go pro. It's got a SLog2 option. I'm not using it to shoot cinema style videos. I make music and multicamera shoot myself music recording/mixing (ATEM). I'm shooting in a studio environment with fixed lighting, typically low ISO/shutter 1/30. The camera is locked off. This is a colorist question, but should I always shoot in slog2? If I'm not after a cinematic look? I really want blacks and details to look as good as possible. I typically like a very saturated dark image. What do you think? Thanks in advance... :)
Awesome Video! Why do you apply rec709 transform in the 8ght node? It is usually said to use this step as a starting point. Would love to hear your opinion on that.
There are certain effects that you want to apply to the image BEFORE you add the LUT, such as saturation, contrast, WB, etc. And there are certain effects you want to apply AFTER. You can place it wherever you'd like but for me on this project, the 8th node is just the one I picked.
Good work brother can you tell me how to get that thick cinematic layer over your video jus like your taking head ..is that noise reduction or Gaussian blur?? this is the look im trying to get, but I can’t seem to figure it out .. please Help😩
Thanks for the tutorial! In the clip you are editing how did you manage to get well exposed footage if you weren't using an ND filter? I suppose you had low aperture for that dof and 1/50 shutter speed? If you can help me understand please I have trouble in full blown sun
Do you adjust the same method for slog3? I’m a big fan and i’ve been using fx6, but hopefully you post more detailed tutorial or how would you adjust fx6 white balance for the shooting. Thanks alot!
@@TimmyLodhi yes i see that. But my question is, is there a way how i can save e basic structure? Or some settings? Otherwise i have to make all 9 notes (for example) on every clip new? Ctrl c+v dont work in notes 🙁 you know what i mean? Thanks for your reply! ♥️
Hey Timmy, could you tell which picture profile is best for all scenario shooting (indoors and outdoors) on Sony a7iii without struggling much while color grading in DaVinci resolve 18
Hey! I always shoot SLOG2 or SLOG3. Those are my favorite profiles for shooting in any scenario but you have to be prepared to spend a lot time grading afterwards. Especially if you’re new.
Sometimes I make more. Sometimes I make less. If you’re asking if you can easily replicate them to other clips. You just need to right click on the clip and grab a screenshot. Then, when it’s in your gallery, you can easily apply the grade to the other clips by right clicking the gallery still and hitting apply grade
Hey Timmy thanks for the informative video. The color space transform that you do at 4:20, is this the same as using a given SLOG to REC709 LUT? And is there an equivalent tool in premiere? Been watching your videos for a while now and they have helped a bunch. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Tbh, I’m not exactly sure if the color space transform tool works exactly like applying the standard SLOG2-Rec709 conversion LUT. For some reason, and this is totally my opinion, but I get better results in Davinci using that tool versus just applying the LUT in Premiere
And unfortunately there is no equivalent tool in Premiere. The only thing you can do is download a LUT and then select it in the Lumetri Panel. Quite unfortunate because it's a very powerful tool.
@@TimmyLodhi Ah man, does this mean I'm going to have to try out Davinci? Thanks for the clarification. If you need video ideas, I think it would be cool to see the difference between using the color space transform tool vs various slog to REc709 luts!
@@kevnito7299 I highly suggest trying out Davinci for the color tools at least. There’s also ways to edit in Premiere and then export to Davinci so you can color. I’m thinking about doing a video on that process as well
I prefer the highlight roll off and contrast tone curve on slog-2 over sgamut3.cine. Overall I think they’re not too different and I’m sure I could figure out a workflow with slog3 but I’ve really dialed in my style with SLOG2 on the a7iii
Can the adjustments be copied over to other clips for the entire film to have the same look without editing every single clip? Like copy settings to alla stills In Lr.
Yup! You just right click on the clip and select “copy attributes” and then right click on the clip you want to apply them to and hit “paste attributes”
Great video! Is it possible to copy/paste those adjustments you just did to another clip or do you always have to create new nodes and stuff for each clip?
Yup! The easiest way is to right click on the image after you’ve made your adjustments and select “Grab Still”. Then you can open your Gallery on the right and you should see your saved still. From there, just navigate to any other clip you want to grade, make sure it’s selected, and right click on the still you saved and hit “apply grade”
Thanks for the tutorial Timmy. Gained new knowledge! By the way, did you write a script for narration beforehand or shoot everything, edit the sequence then only think about narration later?
You're welcome! For this particular piece I shot everything and edited the sequence first. At first, that's all I was gonna release but felt like it was lacking a bit. So I spent sometime writing a script and recorded the voice-over while watching the video back so the timing worked out.
Hey Timmy do the project settings matter? do I change anything in color management to have the best results? I've seen some people change rec709 (scene) to rec709 gamma 2.4 on the output settings on color management as well, I'm not too well knowledge on this and was wondering if you make any changes in that setting?
So one question I have is what your settings are when you first started the project. Obviously you chose settings on the Effects tab when you were doing your Rec 709 conversion but I’ve seen some videos where they referenced why they didn’t choose output settings because of what their project settings already were
What nd filter did u use in this video? And did u use a polarizer? Dude those clouds are soo freaking good! Amazing dynamic range and colors!!!! Edit: ok now i know u didn't use a polarizer lol but what about the nd? How water isn't underexposed when u got those details in the clouds?!?!
@@TimmyLodhi i assume that the water was in shadows part of the histogram (because sky and clouds were so bright) so how did u illuminate it so clear (without noise and sharp enough) is it the lut? because i didn't see you doing something special for that, in the video.

If I do, I don’t add much more than 5-10%

Is there a way to save the "nine node" tree so it can be recalled with a click later?
