Q: my kid has selective mutism since she toddler now she 20 and she shuts down forever, is there still has any chance treatment or too late? Please anyone know give me the answer. Thanks.
Hi! I also suffer from selective mutism. It has gotten better throughout the years but still struggle at times and I’m 18. I would also like to know the answer to your question. Wish the best for your daughter and hopefully she will surpass her condition!
I am a teacher and had my first case of SM about 12 years ago. In recent years I’ve seen these cases more and more. I currently have 3 girls that have a high level of social anxiety in my classroom. Two speak barely and very quietly and get easily scared of changes on routine or caregivers. I have one case who doesn’t speak at all. I wonder what is causing this increase in anxiety in children. Has other schools seeing this as well.
Their world has become scarier-shootings, natural disasters, and other horrific images available at a glance on the screens all around today’s children. At the same time, they have more precarious home and family environments; so many split families and very few households with an adult who’s main priority is their children. Personally, I have been very involved at my kids’ schools and have seen and felt a significant difference in the school environment between my oldest and youngest kids, less than 10 years age span.
Thank you so much for making this free and public! This gives me a place to start with my child.
You have explained in such a simple way… thank you for the presentation
Can you post the link for the teacher training?
