Now that's how you demo gear. No talking... just an engineer who knows what we want to hear turning knobs and hitting bypass. Thanks man. That thing sounds great! Great material, great engineer..
Great examples! Wow, what a difference especially on those vocal tracks, acoustic guitar and mono track! Also, wanted to give props to the vocal performances. Excellent work guys!
Hey bro, I love your 'source material' 😊. The chord progressions, bass lines, and the indie song at the end. My favourite is that creamy synth bass. Just great. 'The redeemer of the world, God is here with us' Amen I tried tested the rack version on Access Analog and it has the wow factor. This smaller version sounds like it has the same quality.
Finally someone done a great demo on this EQ! Thank you so much. To my ear, they are really great. Vocal, bass, acoustic guitars get "bigger", and really natural sounding. It's so clean that I can't help thinking how beautiful it will be in the mix. The only part that I don't like is the drums. Didn't really get that sound of tube pultecs in the lows, but somehow thin and harsh.
millionhertz. official Thanks, glad you like it! No tubes in the 500 series versions. Many online pro audio dealers have these available. Mine came from Vintage King.
Purchased 1 in 2016, it is the only hardware eq i own. Steve stopped production on these & the 500x is the newest update module. if the 500A doesn't reissue the 500A will become a collectors item.
I'm so thoroughly surprised with how stellar this thing sounds on vocals. I already knew it's killer on drums... but wow... it really brought the male vox out at 16khz and the female vox out at 12khz. WOW! Can't wait to grab a pair of 500X (since 500A is discontinued... 500X is supposed to be the best of both worlds)
I have owned a 500a since 2016, I will never sell it. Hopefully when my son inherits it he and the other generations after never sell it. That's how much it's worth. I originally purchased the 500s model directly from Steve but he had to send it through sweetwater. I was gonna use the 500s Exclusively for vocal production , but sent it back after using it only 1 week of use & had Jeff law at sweetwater send me out the 500a because of its more broader frequency range as compared to the 500s model. And what makes the Pultec 500 series EQ's unique by themselves is that Steve Jackson company is the ONLY professional audio manufacturer that is licensed by API to gain access to the legendary 2520 . Meaning no other professional audio equipment manufacturers have the 2520 circuit amplifiers in their audio equipment except API & Pulse Techniques.
Apart from the great sounding eq..if those recordings are coming from your studio ..could you please tell me your mic chain...Mic and preamp on vocals and guitar. I love it !
Sorry for late response here-hard to say. I like the low end of the pultec more, but I found the API to be more flexible with possible sounds. I liked them equally for different uses. 🤷🏻♂️
MELOPSMUSIC The main difference I know off the top of my head is the shelving on the top band (I think at 10kHz). That’s a very desirable feature to me.
hi! when mixing bass , do you use both, the rnd542 and pultec 500x at the same time ? or its too just much?. and if you had to choose only one for mixing bass, which one would you choose ? thank you very much
@@felix9671 Hello! I actually don’t own these units anymore. I don’t know that I would use both at the same time on bass. I would probably reach for the Pultec if only choosing one.
Thanks for your video :) How the Bump in the low could be compared to the one offered by the 542 (of course 542 isn't an EQ but 542 is known for adding a nice punch to Kick) Thanks a lot in advance for your thoughts ;)
You're welcome! The 542 to my ear adds kind of a "wide thickness" to the kick, whereas the Pultec can be sculpted and target a specific frequency more aggressively.
@@GreenbriarStudio Thanks for your answer, I'm wondering how this Pultec compares with an Api 550A / 560 did you have the chance to compare it with API EQ and if yes, do you have one that you prefer ? :)
@@GreenbriarStudio Thanks for taking the time to answer me, great feedback! I think I'm gonna stick with api, now thinking of adding a pair of 560 to my collection instead of the pultec :)

@@tortillaman2491 The first time I saw a Pultec EQ I was confused too. The trick and magic of a Pultec is that it is possible to cut and boost the same frequencies at the same time, which gives a great result. Check out some Pultec videos on UA-cam, there you can see and hear the magic.

Have been wondering about these puppies and I am thinking of getting a pair, especially after hearing this! Really good demo, thank you!

Looks so easy and natural to get a killer sound
Great over all! Loved it on the Snare, sounds just like i like it🙂⚡ Thanks alot!

The Pultec is a very powerful eq!!
The wonders it did on that synth!
PLEASE make more videos like this! I love them!
Absolutely beautiful 😍

This is great thank you

You should do a video doing the same thing but with the 550b
Phoenix MatadorTV I’ll see if I can make that happen at some point 👍🏼
Going to pick up the eqp 500x really liked your demo especially on the vocals

What is the Acoustic guitar that we can hear in this demo?
Is it an old Martin?
It sounds great.
@@hepiyellow I thiiink it was a Gibson, but I can’t remember. 😬
Sound beautiful , do you think it s a good idea to use two of them on the mix bus ? Perhaps difficult to set the same in both units no ?

Please tell me where you got that eq
I ordered the EQ from Vintage King
Does it respond well on electric guitars? Cheers!
I never got to test it specifically on electrics when I had it. I'm sure it would be nice!
That EQ is boost-only? You can't cut on it?
you can cut also, it is called attenuate on a Pultec
@@mrsayang Well that's a trip that some knobs boost and some cut. That sounds like it would be tricky to dial in correctly.
