    I appologize for the lack of mono issue on the kick. I'm still learning Nuendo as I'm most familiar with Protools. It seems to import mono tracks as stereo for some reason. It has no bearing on sending out to mono hardware. I caught the other tracks in time and converted them to mono in Studio One. When I do videos like this I have to route the mix audio out of Nuendo, and record the results in Studio One. Totalmix and RME make this soooooo easy. Again, sorry I didn't catch it.

    Mr Johns, you are obviously a patient kind man. Thanks for the videos. The 500 series is awesome.. I heard the pultec 500 series is great for bass guitar

    Thank you for this video! Great stuff. I'm planning to get an 8 unit chassis and finding some cool pres and EQ to fill it with. This video helps me make a decision!

      @@BarryJohns I'm in the same boat as @music.by.anibal so I'm very much, and I mean VERY MUCH paying attention to this series you're working on. It's excellent stuff! I do have some suggestions/ideas for 500 series gear I'd love for you to demo, so I'll put together a (short) list and share it asap. Again, thanks for the series!!!!

      I don't have a 500 series setup but recent I did purchase a Cranborne EC1 pre, you should check out the Cranborne Audio Camden 500 Series Mic Pre. Very versatile pre amp!

    I think this is the a great way to show how to use the modules. Its kind of boring but it it gives a perfect point of view of how these things really get used.
    Personally it made me realize i can get 95% there using my ssl plugin but if i was profitable making music, 8ch of these for drums/bass would be great. And quicker to use.

    Really good video Barry. I think this was a nice demo of what the eq can do. I have this module and from my experience with it, it performs a bit better when driven hard by a mic pre. For example I patch in from the SSL VHD Pre with the signal in the green with the occasional yellow indicator into the 611. I find that I have to do less drastic eq boosts to get the sound I want. With lower level signals I find I have crank it to respond. Your before and after was very noticeable and cleaner. Definitely interested in hearing what the Maag can do since it costs more. I wonder if the price differences are worth it.

    I've always had the idea of linking the SSL 500 Preamp > SSL 500 EQ > SSL 500 DYN. Like building an entire SSL channel strip. Would that be good?

    Love all your videos Barry. one small comment ,the kick drum seems to be panned when the EQ is in bypass and whern the eq is engaged it is in stereo center. Keep up yer great videos

    Really interesting series so far, Barry. I'm reminded of one of your past videos about the zillions of plug-ins out there, and if you can really hear the difference IN THE MIX from one variation to the other. I've heard you say in the past that you have and enjoy the SSL channel strip plug-in, as do I. How different is the hardware version from the software? Can you hear a difference in the mix? Thanks for all your hard work!

    Really like youre video's on YT, Barry. Keep the good work coming. For AD/DA conversion, did you use the Ferrofish Pulse?
    Also, I see Audient is now available on Sweetwater, could you do a video on their iD44 mk2 interface? Would be highly apreciated. Grtz from the Netherlands.

      Just my UFX+ for this one as it had available IO. Ferrofish is full. I will see if I can get my hands on the ID44. I’m putting the 16th through its paces now, a video will come.

    Hey Mr. Johns! I was listening to this and it sounds cool enough but what threw me for a loop was when you were mixing in the kick, the stereo seemed to bounce around with the use of the input button at 6:36. Isn't this single unit mono? I thought I was having sinus issues with my ears again but I looked at the monitor and saw the levels bouncing around lol.

    • @BarryJohns
      @BarryJohns  6 місяців тому

      I know, sorry. I was able to correct for the rest of the tracks. It is a Nuendo issue as it seems to being in all audio tracks as stereo even mono. I used Studio one to convert the others to mono. Lesson learned.

      @@BarryJohns I just came back to respond to this and saw everyone else jump on that and boy howdy am I sorry. I hope you understand I (I can't speak for everyone) want to see you make all the best sounds! Sounds like a neat lesson video in and of itself though! I'm interested in starting to acquire this gear and if I can learn some what-not-to-do's along the way, that'd sure help!
      Thank you!!

    Honest it would be nice to hear new things. We have all heard SSL and maag. Some new things from different companies would be awesome. I have just about went all hardware because the last 20 years I have been mixing music with my eyes instead of ears and I’m finished with that. Thank you for your time as I know it takes a lot.

    First off, great video, and great series idea!! Thank you!
    But secondly, and my apologies for being off-topic here, but I couldn't find anything on your channel regarding this: do you have any videos explaining your video making process at all? I have an RME Fireface UFX III (in large part due to your videos). And I'd love to be able to share my screen (DAW, etc), video of myself demonstrating guitar techniques, pedals, etc (I have camera gear), and also capturing my voice (mic connected to the UFX of course). But I'm struggling to get it all functioning properly together. OBS doesn't seem to be cooperating with multiple audio sources while recording locally (not live streaming). I'd love to see some ideas on how you go about things as I love your approach to teaching etc.
    Anyway, thank you so much in advance!!!!

      Hi friend, high grade analogue gear tends to do that to everything. In short; saturation is the main answer :)

    Just filled up my Fredenstein chasses with the last pieces of 500 units. Love the format as well, and appreciate the series.
    Just a small point regarding the kick. Are you inserting the mono EQ on a stereo channel? Because it sounds like that. When you're lifting the top end, that leans more towards the left, for example. Sorry for being a stiffler but hey, a video like this is focusing on nuances after all 😄

    So if I use the Sweetwater link is the cost a few cents higher for me? If not, you should state that, there is no cost difference to your audience.

    • @BarryJohns
      @BarryJohns  6 місяців тому +3

      Of course there is no additional cost. I would never work with anyone that did that kind of thing.
