Very nice. I prefer the sound of solid-state Pultecs over tube Pultecs on the mixbus, because tubes can fold if you drive them too hard and the unit lacks headroom. When they fold, they produce some rather unpleasant distortion in the low end, making it lose focus. Solid-state Pultecs tend to retain deep, focused low end more often than not. Also, it seems like most of the commenters were right. That's an MBT up there!
I've been in the market for a pultec style EQ. I'm actually not sure I want to add another tube unit to my chain though. This unit meets right in the middle of what I've been looking for. Thanks so much for such an insightful video. Look forward to more content
Just picked up my first 500 series chassis so I find this very interested, lots of questions, lots of possibilities Im looking forward to getting it going. I like the UAD Pultec plugin so hearing the hardware is very different in the analogue realm. Thanks David
A comparison with the tube version would great. It would also be cool to see these compared to the DIYRE EQP5. I remember seeing a video of yours looking at their preamps.
Awesome! Been waiting for this one...next the review of the tape machine you should get,hehe...that was me on the live stream. Yes please a shoot out with the two pultec's
What a FANTASTIC artist use! Lori and band is great! I would like the vocals up a little more, but my ears are 71 yo. I noticed that she has a nice vibrato in the upper range. The stuffy nose sound is cute and OK, but I like more treble. The nice pultec is on my shopping list. Your video is excellent, very informative.
As always, a great overview. Thank you for doing these. I would like to see a comparison of tube vs. solid state with the Pultec design. Maybe something that also discusses which works better under specific circumstanced (guitar, drums, bass, vocals, etc.). Thanks again!
@@MixingMusicAnalog I did notice that, which gave me the thought of taking it to other instruments such as guitar, vocals, etc. I find that this particular EQ is great on guitar and bass, while the tube version seems better for vocals, but I always like to hear the opinions of others on this. Thanks again for providing this.
Excelente vídeo. Apenas uma sugestão: se puder deixar o audio da sua voz ligeiramente mais baixo que as amostras de áudio, ficará mais confortável para ouvir. Obrigado
I’m very curious, what do you prefer, the Pultec or the Wes? I’m looking at getting a pair but Wes being half the price. Really leaning toward the Pultec tho
Different topology , different cost , different sound ( not interchangeable probably ) but would you prefer gainlab's empress or pulteq 500 series as the most "useful" item ? - Nice video ( Once more ! )
Please do the comparison with the Pultecs. Great video!
Will do!
Hey Braxel, someone is interested in getting a Ferrofish 32. How do you like yours so far?
@@MixingMusicAnalog That would be very worthwhile 🙂

Thank you so much for this. I'm starting to go into analog gear. I'd love to hear a comparison for sure. Great review as always.
Noted and thank you

Nice video. The eq sounds great.. I have a couple of JLM PEQ500A units that do the Pultec vibe, no tubes. I really like them.

How often does your SSL desk need service? Remember the Neve VR breaking down twice a month
I have owned it 3 years and not a single time. The new modern consoles dont need the service like the older ones did
@@MixingMusicAnalog That's great! What exakt model is that?
Nice ,maybe I will pop a couple into my board ,I can ab them with my neve 551 eq
they sound completely different. Neve 551 video coming next week
3k for a pair ouch@@MixingMusicAnalog

The Empress EQ
Hi Dave, any thoughts on how the 500x solid state Pultecs compare to the Wes Audio Prometheus?
nope. I would have to compare them side by side

The boost at 10K on the voice sounds expensive!!!
