Ingredients:
5 potatoes boiled and coarsely mashed
curry leaves
8-10 cloves of garlic
1 big piece ginger
5 green chillies
coriander leaves
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 and 1/2 tablespoon oil
1 and 1/2 cup gram flour
turmeric powder
asafoetida
salt to taste
soda bicarbonate
1 tablespoon cornflour
1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder

For the reference of Mumbaikars. This recipe tastes as good as 'Aaram vada pav' if not better than that....

yes its baking soda and besan ( cheak pea (gram)) flour is the best

Corn Flour not used in batata wada...being maharashtrain I am telling you this
Agree that corn flour is definitely not used in batata wada. Aso she forgot to add the baking powder as she did not mention that when preparing the batter

baking soda and cornflour have different properties. Also you can have food without soda. That won't affect the taste. But adding something different will have different taste. And I don't understand one thing people cry so much regarding indian method of preparation, but always enjoy pizza/burgers prepared with bread which contains yeast, and other stuff not good for health.
So I would always encourage indian method of preparation for Indian recipes. Create your own variations, but please maintain the authenticity of our food.

HI RUCHI happy new year i am in phillippiness and i love my bombay food but when i am in bombay i never make my own but now i learn how to cook are food any way my problem is what is GRAM FLOUR ? i buy 1 kgs BESAN FLOUR AND 1 kgs CORN FLOUR so what i will use i can't buy gram flour i never see that in philippiness GRAM FLOUR only BESAN FLOUR AND CORN FLOUR what i will use to make GRAM FLOUR help me pls
