This is helpful, I tried to change washer and its won't stop leaking. So, I got new Kohler pressure balancing valves part number GP50520 it cost me around $30 bucks from Kohler store in my town. Now it works perfect, no leaking. This might help you guys who is watching this video.
thanks for making this video. My home repair book mentioned there are disk faucets and cartridge faucets and my faucet is similar to this one, which seems kind of like a combo of both instructions, but the balancer thing wasn't mentioned by them so I'd be really scratching my head right now without your video
It ended up being a Price Pfister faucet (no branding on any of the parts) so I had to pay the home warranty $75 to send a plumber and for him figure that out for me. I researched Moen, American Standard, and whatever that other one is and none of their parts were right. I didn't know PP still existed. Oh well, now I know and can fix the others if they ever develop the same problem! Still couldn't have done this without your help!
Sorry I didn't get back to you. I'm sure you figured it out. You may want to share your experience with others to help them if they run into anything similar.
I replaced mine a year ago because the hot water and pressure dropped in my shower. This fixed it. I've heard that kohler will warranty these for life and swap them out free, though I can't confirm this. Our shower has started to act up again with the hot water being sporadic in temperature and going down after a few minutes even when the rest of the house is fine. So I think it's broken again after a year, which is ridiculous.
@vibrantjourney Hey thanks yes i got it settled 2 months ago. Turned out it was all the sediments that got stuck in the nozzle. When i shut the water off and turned it back on all these sediments came out thats why. thanks again.
Thanks the video. After I replaced with both balance unit & cartridge, I turn on the cold & hot water, but the water can't stop running even I turn the faucet knob to off button. ( My cold & hot water supply are beside the right & left side of balance unit.) Anything wrong?

I was so happy to have found your video. Thank you for posting. I have a question. My tub faucet is leaking. n the video the you replaced the mixer cap GP77759 (I got this number off your pckaging)which does not include the brass fitting (Rite Temp I believe). The Kohler Pressure Balancing Unit GP500520 includes the brass fitting and the mixer cap. On the Kohler website the mixer cap kit GP77759 is $39.50 and the Pressure Balancing Unit is $94.50. Which do I need for leaking faucet?
Thanks for the video, i am using the same brand in my 20 stories building. My problem is i am not getting any cold water in the shower, spout, sink and toilet. When I remove shower control, mixing valve and pressure balance and then open the shut off valve for cold water, lot of cold water comes but as soon as I put back everything, i loose cold water. Please help.
thanks for this. There is one edit which cuts out the removal of the pressure balancing value. What tools are recommended, esp. if the unit is old and jammed? cheers, Neil
A good advice if you can turn off the water from your house. That way you can do everything that you need to do and once you're finished you can turn it back on
It was easy to take them apart but I had to watch this video and took care putting together the new parts I just bought to avoid the leakage. Thank you for this video!
@virtuallaurie Sorry so late, I'm no expert but based on what happened to me it seems a replacement. Just an unknowledgeable guess. Hope you already had this taken care of.
Yikes, took it apart twice and just cleaning the seals didn't fix the problem. Looks like I need to find out from Kohler what model I have and where I can get the parts!
I haven't had to touch ours since I did this maintenance. Hopefully we're both good for a long while. I know I'm going to regret saying this publicly, I'm sure the faucet is listening. :)
@emerickscott Great point that "kohler will warranty these for life and swap them out free." @JMeBo noted getting four shipped to him free by Kohler, so definitely worth calling them first.
Hello i have a problem with the bathtub water and handsink ...that water only flowing on the bathtub and not handsink what do i need to do to get the water pressure going back to the handsink thanks
It was a bit hard to hear but was able to use your video as a reference, thanks for the help and the part numbers. I know others mentioned that Kohler has a lifetime warranty but I bought the house and this faucet was already installed - wonder if they would reimburse me? Ill call and update you guys.
Mine started to drip and not get enough hot temps mix. Took it apart cleaned the mineral deposits and grease the o-rings (2 pairs on two pieces. Valve and bi-valve) with heavy duty silicon spray and it fixed the problem. Saved me a $200 plumber visit.
Luis Menchu Yea if you take a close look the parts. The are pretty basic and (from automotive experience) it's usually the gaskets (or o-rings) that fail and not the part itself. We have a problem with hard water here. Even with filtration it can build up over the years (shower valve is 12 years old). I hate it when the lawn sprinklers hit my car. The unfiltered water spots are hard to get off if left for too long.
are the diverter valves (4 way) dedicated so if you have Kohler you must stick with same or are they usually interchangeable? where can you find compatibility info? thanks
In some places it was difficult to understand the audio because of mumbling, but overall was fine. Addressing the balance and cartridge, it wasn't really apparent that there were 2 parts.
Thank you for this video! Question: I have an old sterling faucet valve. Do you know if I can replace the valve with this Kohler valve and then update my faucet with a Kohler faucet? Thank you.
Something is wrong but I couldn't tell you what. Best to get some help to take a look at it. Either ask questions at the store or get a plumber to help you out.
This is helpful, I tried to change washer and its won't stop leaking.

Very helpful. Thanks.
Gave me some confidence to do this by myself.

Thanks Luis. Saved me so much time and I couldn't find this model anywhere else on the web.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I couldn't have done it without your help!!!!

@ProfRoberts Glad it helped and congratulations on stopping that leak.
great video. Thanks you saved me a $150 plumber bill.

Thank you! I have the exact same faucet set up and have to replace the cartridge this weekend. I love you tube. Thanks for educating me!
Late reply, but hope you read through the other comments. I'd call Kohler. They can help and you may find that a warranty covers the parts.

@remusjacobs It can all be intimidating. Hopefully you took it on and succeeded.

@poshduds I'm sure this will be helpful to many. Thanks for the details.
Just what we were looking for. Thanks~
@digitalpa Feels good to save that for other needs.

@Adrianfoxy22 Not seeing this until a few weeks later, hope you got this taken care of. I'm sure you found another video or a plumber to help you out.
thanks for this. There is one edit which cuts out the removal of the pressure balancing value. What tools are recommended, esp. if the unit is old and jammed? cheers, Neil
@Gymnast101XD Yeah he did everything step by step but remove the cartridge which is what I wanted to see , mine is stuck too

Awesome Video... Thanks for Posting
Ours comes off pretty easy. I would try using a small jewelers precision screwdriver to help pry on it. Be careful not to break it. Good luck.
@JMeBo Great. Don't forget to make use of your plumber for other projects.
Yikes, took it apart twice and just cleaning the seals didn't fix the problem. Looks like I need to find out from Kohler what model I have and where I can get the parts!
@nseybert Hope you took yourself out for dinner and used the rest for good.
@zero00tolerance Hope you got this taken care of. Not sure what is happening but perhaps give more info and someone else will have input.
I haven't had to touch ours since I did this maintenance. Hopefully we're both good for a long while. I know I'm going to regret saying this publicly, I'm sure the faucet is listening. :)
@Gymnast101XD No special tools to take pieces out. Just used hands and fingers.
I'd call Kohler for assistance. As you'll read in the other comments, that may prove very helpful.
Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the vid!!
Thanks for the comment, I hope it went well.
@emerickscott Great point that "kohler will warranty these for life and swap them out free." @JMeBo noted getting four shipped to him free by Kohler, so definitely worth calling them first.

@carltonsue1 Can't be sure but sounds like that may be it. Read through all the comments for more tips.

Curious how things went with Kohler, did you get the part?
Thanks! I just replaced my unit and it works :)
@tasq10001 I'm no expert. Sounds complicated and probably a task for a real plumber.
Mine started to drip and not get enough hot temps mix. Took it apart cleaned the mineral deposits and grease the o-rings (2 pairs on two pieces. Valve and bi-valve) with heavy duty silicon spray and it fixed the problem. Saved me a $200 plumber visit.
DaytonCarCare Good info to share. We tend to jump to purchasing replacements but may not need to yet.

It's been a while, I seem to recall just being able to pull it out. Maybe someone else will answer or you can ask your local plumbing supply shop.
Thanks for taking the time to post this, it helped a great deal!
when i shut off the shower the water keeps coming out for some reason and its still happening right now please help

@dabomb67 Yes, @JMeBo gave all good advice. Sometimes parts are covered as also mentioned in the @emericscott post.
Thank you. I'm glad the video was helpful.
@imjustpassinthru Yeah, audio could be much better.
Good, reward yourself with a bit of that saved money. Save the plumber for a more complicated task.
Thanks for the note, it is helpful.
Something is wrong but I couldn't tell you what. Best to get some help to take a look at it. Either ask questions at the store or get a plumber to help you out.
@DRxDR Good info, thanks for adding it.
Thank you! You're a star
Well done man, thanks!
Hopefully someone else helped you out, it is better asked of someone with more knowledge than I have. May be time to visit a plumbing supply store.

Mumbling?! You could watch it on mute and get it right! Thanks a lot for the video!
Jermaine Bain Yup, I'm a mumbler. Glad it still helped.
Kohler has a lifetime warranty on their hardware, so you don't need to buy anything.
Just a tip.
A little louder, please. It's as if you're numbling to yourself.
Glad it helped.
