this really is a great video - I must admit that I have tried loads of different grease during my 40 years of cycling but the best one has been AeroShell Grease 6 that a helicopter pilot suggested I try - he gave me a small sample and I have to say that it really is fantastic - I would highly recommend it and it is not that much more expensive than a basic lithium grease - one tin would probably last a lifetime and just wait and see and feel the results - please post lots more videos
just did my hope pro 4 rear hub after watching this and a couple of other videos. the other videos had proper tools. i don’t have the tools so this video was more helpful. The hardest part was getting the drive side hub bear off and the replacement for it back on. I used a combination of a large and deep socket, a King Hub tool, a Santa Cruz bearing press tool (for a Heckler frame). The King and SC tools got the bearing started, but ultimately it was a rubber mallet, a 17mm socket, and a big roll of masking tape on its side for support that got it knocked home. Getting that old bearing out was also a pain but just kept hitting the punch with the rubber mallet until it flew out. Cheers!
I have a hope pro 2 rear wheel and this video saved me some cash nearly 60ish a got the bearings my self took me a while geting the axle out to start with but was really easy
Please don’t use the axle for punching the bearings out or pushing them in. The axle is pushing on the inner race and will damage the bearings. Well, you can ruin the old bearings i guess but you risk the outer race getting stuck inside the hub. But the new bearings please no. Get a proper drift or spacer.
For the love of god please take this video down! you should never drive a bearing in on anything than the OUTER RACE.... do not do what this video says on install!!
There is certainly something to be said about old school, high quality C&C beatings. They’re smooth as hell and last forever if taken care of correctly.
I agree. This is ridiculous. My $200 hope hub shit the bed after 400km. Now I need specialized tools and buy expensive cartridge replacements?.. Just to have them fail again. Hope sucks. I'm going Chris King for my next rear wheel.
I need some help! every video i have watched on everyone has managed to remove the free hub body really easy but i am really stuggling to get mine off and im scared it might buckle or brake if i pull any more?
As others have said, driving hub bearings on their inner race will damage them. Also using the axle to drive them in is bad for a couple of reasons; What if the inner race gets stuck on the axle? You also risk going in at a slight angle which can damage the hub. Better to pull them in using a long bolt from the other side + large diameter washers. Use washer diameters large enough to sit on the OUTER race, but small enough to not foul the housing the bearing will go into. Maybe take this video down?
Full set of hope bearing tools for the hub yet he uses the axle to "knacker" the freehub bearings!!! "FIK IGGORENT SAVAGE". As others have said take down and re-do properly.
My god, you look to have a professional video production but then use the axle to remove and install the hub bearings?!? Why not lower your production value a little bit and invest in proper bearing drift tools!! Do NOT service your hub the way this guy just did!! Hell, you’d be better off using the socket way (which is still not the best way)

You could put the bearings in the freeze for a few mins to shrink them the slightest => easier installation.

As soon as I seen the hammer.. I booked it in at my LBS 🤣

How to ruin your new bearings..
You should never use a hammer on your new bearings.
