Your closet area is beautiful, a work of art actually! That being said, I believe that even those of us who are lucky enough to have a walk-in closet don't have as much space as you do. It would be nice if, after showing examples from your own closet organization, you could find some online examples of smaller spaces using your same methods. Just a thought.

I think If you take all the tips and advice Valentina gave on organizing, then one should find it easy no matter what size your closet. Firstly only keep in season items , matching hangers and organizers. And please, color coordinate, you’ll see a huge improvement. Not only in your closet but your mind.

Just use her concept, it’s no different.
Store winter coats elsewhere in the summer. Purchase closet organizers , shelves etc, IKEA, Lowes or Amazon. Keep a small hamper if one fits, and your closet will look amazing. Same idea smaller footprint. Imagine living in a small apartment in a city .

@@camelotfeeney903 true but it would be helpful if she weighed in on different closet organizers for small spaces for example. With Valentina's beautiful style and vast product knowledge, she could probably save a lot of us with small closets lots of time and money with trial and error.

I have a decent sized closet and my number one tip is minimalism. No one needs 40 pairs of shoes, for example. Anything that hasn't been worn in a year needs to go. Purses I don't use anymore are donated to charity so I don't have to display them

I did a huge closet purge during lockdown a few years ago and it was the best thing I did for my wardrobe and my daily life. I live in NYC and am fortunate to have two bedroom closets. They are small, but I was able to section everything out and have all of clothes, shoes and handbags color coordinated and mostly on display. Getting dressed everyday is so easy and even fun. Like you recommend, I have a couple of baskets for clothing and shoe maintenance items, which is so keep for maintenance of your items. Here’s a tip for everyone; start repairing your spring summer shoes, clothes handbags, etc. now. You can do it slowly so the cost isn’t overwhelming and you’ll be ready to go when the season changes.

I have a tiny closet in a home built in 1933 - for an era when people had a lot fewer items of clothing. When I moved in, I started by purging bags of stuff I didn't totally love. And, I hang only the current season in the closet and put off-season clothes on a rack in the basement. Keeps it sane and organized. Bags and shoes go in the tiny hall closet which, get this, is too narrow (as in, not deep) that it cannot hold a modern-day clothes hanger and allow the door to close. Hangers from 1933 must have had tiny 'shoulders'! 😆 I've figured out how to make it work.

Very useful tips: move out of season items out of the way to make room for current items. Risers and inserts to store handbags and preserve their lifespan, sort by category and color, matching hangers, pretty hamper, what to hang vs fold, drawer organizers for undergarments, velvet organizers for jewelry. I don't have a large closet either, but I watch for the home eye candy and motivation to go organize what I have. Great content Valentina thanks!

I have a good sized walk-in closet (8x6) and have customized it to suit my needs! I actually copied it from one I saw years ago on the HGTV show Mission Organization! I do have my shoes in the heel/toe fashion, that way I can see the heel height and the toe! Everything is arranged by color, shoes, dresses, pants, shirts, all of it! And it is my preferred color arrangement, not the rainbow which I know is a popular way. But this works for me.
The book you mentioned, Beautifully Organized, by Nikki Boyd, is a fabulous resource! Thank you for suggesting it!

It's always a pleasure to see how you blend function and beauty so seamlessly. One day, I might have the space I crave to feel freer to express my love of beauty and order. It's a constant shuffle when space is limited! (It also takes frequent editing and purging to the point of exhaustion!)

I do a seasonal wardrobe shift at least every three months because of my limited space for currently-wearable wardrobe items. I tried once to store things in my uninsulated third floor - it’s not an attic, it’s finished inside. Everything with elastic or Spandex in it was ruined after one summer there, completely stretched out, and my shoes just disintegrated. It doesn’t get very hot, like a crawl space can, and was always well-ventilated. Extra heat, even at the moderate temperatures of warmer indoor locations, is the enemy of anything stretchy or leather, no tumble-drying for my stretchy clothes, either. At least, humidity is never a problem in my dry California climate (it has been stormy and wet for many weeks, but it always dries out again before too long). Your closet is beautiful, Valentina! Thanks for the peek and the tips.

  • @stephro74

Without realizing it, yes, I separate my clothes by kind and color, even the folded stuff. It just happens, and so satisfying to see. Also, I've moved my bags to my office closet downstairs and hang all of them. All the way across, it's all handbags. I have more room there to see what I have, and better lighting so I make sure I have everything when switching them out. I know I'm lucky to have that extra space, though! I got a cute new jewelry set up with trays from Amazon, and I've noticed that I actually use different pieces more often now. Being able to see everything, in general, is KEY!

I changed out my wood hangers for off white velvet hangers and I also agree with displaying my handbags out where I can see them so I have them on my top shelf. For folded clothes, I w followed tips from Marie Kondo and those are color coordinated as well. All this helps me find items quickly too.

Another tip, if you don't place hat's away in drawers or hat boxes. You can display them on polystyrene heads, and you can paint them in a colour that matches your robe. Or just leave them plain white.

I wish I had a closet that I could “go into”. I have two narrow, tiny closets, but am fortunate to have some space elsewhere for out-of-season clothes, even if it means having two open rails out. (I do store my woolies folded in zippered fabric bags). I cover my clothes on rails with new, King-size white cotton sheets to keep the dust and sun off them, and to look better, and it works ok. My Victorian cottage didn’t have a single closet, I have added seven over the years, but they’re for other things, mostly: linens, cleaning stuff/vacuums/brooms, paint and hardware, etc. I would love to have a coat closet for visitors, for one, but every available space is used, it’s a very small home. I’m hoping to add a master suite someday, with a walk-in closet and en suite bathroom. I got criticized by a house guest once because I have to walk through the living room to get to the bathroom and “your hair isn’t even combed yet”. It was the crack of dawn and my first opportunity to use the bathroom that day. She wasn’t invited back, in fact, we didn’t invite her in the first place, she just showed up with husband and kids!

I love your designer closet and I understand how helpful it is for your line of work and UA-cam channel. I have just realized that I am a minimalist when it comes to clothing, purses and shoes. That's one way I save space in my closet. It's very freeing when you have fewer choices to make every morning. I had one take away from today's "Closet Hacks Video." I replaced my husbands tie rack (he hasn't worn a tie in 7 years) with two pretty purses displayed on wall hooks. Yay, success! It's a minor tweak but makes me happy and he still has a tie rack just re-located to a hanger on his side of the closet.

So I keep it in other places in the home in inconspicuous boxes/places. When we were burglarized, They took my entire jewelry box full of costume jewelry that was sitting in my bedroom and missed my fine jewelry. Yes, I miss my costume jewelry, but wanted to pass the tip along. All of my good handbags were stolen from my master closet as well. Have a wonderful New Year, love you works UA-cam channel.

I organize by color and category - for example, I have a section for dressier/date night clothes, athletic tops/jackets, loungewear, super casual and day wear, also a section for blazers/jackets and pants, my jeans for flat shoes are folded and stacked, longer ones are hung with pants

Closet goals! Love it. I organize by style, then color. I have been toying with the idea of the reverse, (how you have it). Going to try it tomorrow.

Learning so much from you. I'm finding that I enjoy a variety of colors but as I get older, I'm wanting to reduce with maybe 3-4 colors. Have you found that with your clients?

This is my dream closet!! Love the hacks! Organizing by color is my favorite too. I have all The Home Edit books. They are fantastic to get some great ideas. The ottoman is too cute and the purse stands are beautiful. 😍 I may have to order some of those. Such a great idea. Thanks again for all the info in the show notes. So super helpful. Enjoy your weekend, V!

Right on Valentina. Another great video! I have used nothing but wood hangers hung all the same direction. My husbands closet in all dark wood and mine in light wood. Everything looks better and have had color coded since day one of our marriage. P S I’m kinda missing Jack! Oh yeah I don’t have much jewelry and I have a bust of a head in my closet I hang all my necklaces and bracelets on. It works and looks beautiful. Everyone comments on her.

I hang my skirts by length, since I need to store my shoes at the bottom of my reach in closet. That way I can have tall boots under the shortest skirts, or stack of mesh front shoe boxes.
We have really unpredictable weather, so my dresses are by how warm they are. It saves a lot of trouble getting dressed.
My big splurge are cedar hangers for my wool clothing. I have a lot of wool, and it helps keep moths away.

Your closet is beautiful, and I love the concept of storing items by type and color. Our dilema, is we will be downsizing from a MB with a walk-in closet to an older condo where the master bedroom has only two single-door size closets. I'm wondering how to maximize storage. Maybe double rods in one closet for shirts? Also considering adding an Ikea wardrobe to the room and customizing it to look built in. Would love more organizing ideas for small spaces.

I have only two narrow closets. I put a lower rail the full width of one of them, and halfway-across in the other, to allow a full-length section for hanging dresses. The rods don’t have to extend all the way across, I just used a support bracket for the one open end, with a screw part-way in it to keep hangers from sliding off. Hope that helps🙂

@HouseofValentina This vlog, your kitchen Vlog and your bathroom Vlog were so helpful because I am in the middle of a major renovation for my entire house. But my question is how would you store your luggage in your closet and how elegant in your opinion is hanging a mirror on the closet door?

I’m just in Amazement of your closet, it’s every woman’s dream to have a space like that or it is for me, not everyone has a walk-in closet and I’d love to see photos or ideas on how to organise that kind of closet, I have everything colour organised and also take up our spare bedroom closet so I can switch it from season to season so everything isn’t squashed into just one closet, I have drawers under my bed that I keep my shoes and at the bottom of my closet, I’d be in closet heaven having something like you have, it’s Beautiful Valentina, I’ve been able to incorporate some of the things you’ve recommended and has made my home look lovely enough for just the two of us oldies, we used to have a really big home but decided once our children left home we didn’t need all that, I kind of wish we hadn’t downsized so much, land, yes, home, not so much, we lived on property and it got too much work for mainly me to upkeep. Love your channel and inspiration. ❤️❤️

I have a really hard time shopping in stores for clothes that have racks of a jumbled mess of patterns and colors. I guess thats why Nordstrom looks so elegant. They take time to curate the clothes for display.

Enjoyed this video Valentina.. 🤎 thanks you ☕️ I didn’t know they do inserts for bags. I have a large Kurt Geiger bag and it always squashes in at one side when it’s sitting on my closet shelf. So I just thought - even a small cushion would do the trick (and ya wouldn’t see it, Cus it’s up high on the shelf) 😉 You look lovely today, as always. And I love your style and the neutral palette. You’ve encouraged me to start a fresh with my wardrobe. Love from Belfast xO

Love organization and have been a follower of yours a long time. I discovered Utube do to the "At Home with Nikki" channel and I'm so glad you like her book. Did you know there are two more? My closet is only 1/5 the size of yours and I have to keep my shoes under the bed in a container with wheels. It will never look like a boutique but it is beautifully organized. Have you replaced your handheld steamer? If so, with what?

Did you say that the skincare company has a serum that helps you tan? I hope I heard that wrong. I organize my closet just as you do. I display my purses and hang my clothes by color and “weight “. I have a closet in my entryway just for shoes, so I keep them there, I like putting them on right before I leave the house. Or, during most f the year it’s snowing or it’s muddy, so I wear boots 😊
