so true! We can't help but be influenced (unless we stop shopping and turn off all connection to the world) by trends, but that's why I so passionately recommend considering them and deciding whether they are for you and your home. If we followed them all we'd be exhausted and we'd have to change everything every 3 minutes! That sense of place and belonging is EVERYTHING!
I'm on a hill in a suburban development. We built our home. External east facing wall - the space behind my cook top faces the roof of my neighbor's home - we wanted the light, the morning sun, but not the view. My backsplash incorporates a 10' x 4' glass block section combined with a neutral glass and stone mix of tiles. Hard to explain but I love it. Been in my home 35 years - kept it even in a full remodel - kept the glass block section just changed the original kitchen backsplash which was 80s tumbled tile. In my application, it just works. My kitchen also has a huge skylight so it's very bright!
I have to say, I personally don’t agree completely with the glass block hate LOL. I agree that they can look dated in certain applications but I still like them and am kind of looking forward to new ways of applying them and some of the newer versions I saw in the photos. Peace. 😊
He can't keep his eyes off of you, so cute! He's so in love with you, just catch him staring at you the entire time your talking. What a doll. You two are adorbs together!
Our styles are vastly different and I actually love some of these trends you hate but I always enjoy your videos and energy anyways and love hearing other points of view!
Me too! I’m definitely not a “Kitsch-en” person, but I have a lot more color in my home than Valentina; still enjoy the videos and get a lot of good info and ideas from them. 😊
@kristinapreedy7069 Exactly! I love a lot of red woods (teak etc) and glass blocks, vintage (honestly between the 50s and 80s and even some 90s), and lots of colour but still get great ideas and enjoy the videos.
I have had an all glass shower and a glass block shower. I will take the glass block any day. It is so much easier to keep clean. The all glass is a maintenance nightmare. I refuse to clean after every shower to prevent spotting on the glass.
I love that we have a community where we can learn and enjoy interiors together, no matter our style! We are all about embracing the things that we love!
@@jeannetteoliver9448 oh wow! I have never had glass block (amazingly after 24 homes across 3 continents, right?!) :-). I LOVE hearing this! You've definitely made me want to reconsider glass block!
Just about every trend you mentioned can be tasteful ,curated and eclectic if in the right circumstance and design style. It’s when it’s repetitive or overdone throughout the home when it becomes too much.
Valentina, I haven’t watched your videos in a while. BUT I think you should do a video soon about bathrooms. What quiet luxury bathroom do you like? Please tell ❤
Those kitchens were horrendous. So terrible, totally agree with you on this. I could never relax and have my morning coffee, and that’s important. Wonderful to catch the video today.
THE NEW PRETTY and QUIET LUXURY all the way. With work from home becoming common across the board, people like me have embraced these two style in warm tone. No visual clutter. Incorporate shapes with vintage style moldings. Layered texture and all, please take all my money!
Yes! It goes without saying that you should absolutely decorate your home in a way that makes you happy. We can all agree. But in videos and articles about trends, the purpose is to let the audience know what these trends are. This has actually been helpful for me, because sometimes what I like will trend, so it's easier to find things!
I LOVE glass blocks, lol! I happen to think, if done right they are still VERY modern. If I owned a home and was renovating, or was building from scratch, I would DEFINITELY be including some glass block features.
I'm enjoying the glass block comments so much here!! You guys have convinced me to reconsider! Easy to clean and something so many enjoy? What about it do you think makes you love it so much?
Well, for starters, Let me confirm That I'm old enough to remember the first round of them, so its not about being younger thinking something "retro" is cool. Secondly, I am an indoor person, through and through.....as a child I once was PUNISHED to go outside(not why I'm now an indoor person).....so I generally don't care about views out of my windows. Thirdly, I don't generally like curtains or drapes, especially when they extend past the window and I see negative space above and below the window and the rod. Lastly, I just think they are quite contemporary(intentionally chose not to call them "modern" there), I like the transparency they bring, and the newer shapes update them, and, as you pointed out, they are a bit Brutalist, which is a style I personally enjoy. No need to "reconsider" if you don't like them, and your clients are removing them, that's y'alls perogative.....they aren't for everyone, and as "trends" go, they may soon be going out again due to oversaturation
Great clip, I agree with you about the Kitschy and murals, I hate them! but glass blocks?? I love them, when they are installed properly and in some situations. We have a hall with a skylight that runs the whole length of the room, but the room to the left of it has no window, the solution was to run glass blocks from floor to ceiling on 1/4 of that wall, it looks amazing design wise and it solves the lack of light in that bedroom that borders it. Love the Zellig tiles, but as you said, everyone has done it and it has lost its attraction, same with farmhouse-so over it :-(. I love a mix of Persian/Middle Eastern luxury mixed with modern. I live in the Middle East and luxury here has a whole different meaning. I would love to see you do a clip on that, as you lived abroad for many years. 🙂
A feel like a lot of these are nostalgic for us newer home owners to the homes we grew up in, I personally don't care for any of them, but I can see where it is part nostalgic.
Valentina, I have been thinking about getting rid of the upper kitchen cabinets since 2020 and I finally did in this August, 2024, so thank you very much for presenting cabinet-less styles in your own kitchen and others. It is so beautiful to get the extra outdoor light and this fresh new look for me, who is already a reluctant cook. I think this new kitchen will be such an assist for my cooking development, LOL. How to send you before-after pics???
Me too. I agree with the presenter that they can look a bit brutalist, but I consider them to be iconic and playful, while often very practical. Not every room/home needs to be elegant.
Where I live glass block is good for the basement windows because it doesn't let house robbers see what you're staring in the basement but it does like some light in, especially in the low horizon sun of the winter
I like the glass block walls. My eyes are sensitive to light and it's a good way to have windows without having windows. The diffused light given is calm to my eyes. I'm not a fan of the busy rainbow kitchens but I do like the rounded edges that are becoming popular. I always thought the quiet luxury looked cold and heartless. The vibe was always "substance abuse rehab for rich and famous"...low vibrational. However, I do like the Balletcore meets quiet luxury. I already decorate with neutrals and a pop of girly color. I think the silver they were talking about would be too cool tone glam for common areas of the house. I think tarnished brass or bronze tones would be warmer and more inviting. I like the idea of mural walls, but I too, think I will get tired of looking at them. I would probably opt for a giant tapestry instead. While I am here, I am going to say how much I loathe the open concept homes with no front porches. I can always tell when I'm driving through an HOA community. I dislike those too.
I'm enjoying everyone's perspectives so so much! We have such an amazing community here! I'm shocked how many people love glass blocks so I'm definitely going to take another look at it! And omg. hahahaha I hope my home doesn't read substance abuse rehab! hahahahaha but then again I pull from so many styles. I don't think mine matches that style 100%.
Quiet luxury is my favorite. Everyone is commenting on the glass block. I am a NO for the glass block! I do have a frameless glass shower door on two sides of my shower. I love the look because it makes my smaller size bathroom feel larger. I simply use a squeegee after every shower. Remember, every one of us has a different eye for what design appeals to us in our homes. Please respect the individualized tastes we love and use. That's what makes each of us unique in our own way! Oh Valentina, when you mentioned "curves" I loved the subtle way you and Jack looked at each other! Wonderful. Have a great evening. 😊❤
Burled wood doesn’t have to be red. Burl isn’t the wood it’s the presentation/characteristic of any wood type or species. I’m so glad you mentioned the lighter tones in the market now! Love burled wood! 😍
Hi , how about the old world ,Country House ,like Nora Murphy, style luxury Ralph Lauren! Is also a new classic trend ,not new just over time ,quality, timeless pieces to pass down ,like fine China, and antique glassware, period desks, high quality rugs ,in wool and hand knotted ? Your thoughts !
Just finished watching this and I agree with most of your choices to go out! I love the energy between you and your husband, I was watching with mine and he was enjoying the conversation. I need to overhaul my entire house and don't know where to start. I know I want elegant for sure. Any suggestions ? You guys are so fun to watch. Thank you for all the input, wow this was too long😮
Glass blocks/bricks can look amazing especially in art deco buildings. 👍 Kitch items 👎 Burial wood in the right environment and items 👍 Quite luxury and ballet design 👍 Muriel walls👍 Textured/ Venetian plastered walls👍 Curvaceous joinery 👍 Social scenery 👍 Portable table lamps 👍
Hmmm... I'm not a trend follower but I do buy and decorate according to what makes me happy. I've had such wildly different styles in my 63 years of living so I've lived in significantly different environments. I've loved them all at that point in time. Where i differ from you is that my favorite color is red... and for a very functional and yes, "kitchie" kitchen table, i have a vintage 1950's red formica dining table that expands with leaves. I've had many dining tables. This is fun and very useful. And it goes with my red sofas in the open family room. Would I have ever envisioned this? No, not in a million years. But that old table makes me smile.
I think it's so much fun to explore and chat about trends, but we definitely don't have to follow them! To me, half the fun in designing spaces, is getting to pick and choose which ones we like! It's like one of those quizzes they send in a magazine where the choices lead us to learn more about ourselves!
I like the glass block as long as the blocks are smooth, the etched ones look too old-fashioned. Boucle looks really nice these days BUT I’ve never cared for boucle fabric …seems like it doesnt hold up well. Good video, thank you.
Heya! Really loved this, sooo helpful. I have a question about the slab front kitchens, as someone who is looking to renovate theirs in the coming months, where are you on gloss slab? I have always been a fan of the crisp, clean minimalistic look of slab as it is, so I am thrilled to hear this is a good step. As much as I love a shaker, I find it a nightmare to keep those details clean with 2 dogs and a little handsy boy!
I think gloss ,shimmer and color is going to make a come back. My home is full of matte finishes, lime wash, textures, travel routine earthy looks, but I am craving for a bit of gloss trying to corporate some back in artwork andobjects d'art
My new way of decorating is only use or buy what you love and makes you happy…I don’t really go for trends unless I love it..I’m more eclectic…I love new with old…
So agree with your list of No's! I too have thought about a large wall mural on the curved wall we have from our first floor leading upstairs. Can't figure out what to do with such a large curved wall. Would love it if you did a video on ideas that might not be crazy expensive. 😊
I love😂glass blocks. Done right. Burl wood looks fake.😂 Omg your so mean, Kitch is fun. Just cuz you like sophisticated.. don't abuse the bright fun personality types😮.😮😮😮
My house has plaster walls and I love the texture. I don't like the spray texture that looks like cottage cheese but plaster or mud texture I think is timeless and beautiful..
I think glass brick feels different in England. So many homes there are row houses that don't get a lot of light. The glass is a way to bring in light without letting neighbors peep (or having to pay high energy costs to heat the house 10 months a year.) But for my own house, no. I'm with you.
😂So Exciting !!! Home Trends Indeed !!! ❤ Hey I looked Better in the 80's !!! 🤣🤣🤣 Blocked Glass reminds me of the Funeral Home where I worked at age 13 I scared the new under takers before they scared me !!!🤪 Never Again and No Blocked Glass !!!😒😁
They don’t block light in Florida. I love the look because the entire house is window. This one window breaks up the light there. It is very bright. I could use fewer windows, lol
I love glass blocks. No to wall paper. Quiet luxury yes please. Modern sofas, love love. No tile anywhere. Gold is trending in Italy. Hate texture. Love curves and social seating. Thanks ❤
glass blocks --I love them. In the 60's, houses in Guatemala city had these --I love them. They let the light in, they don;t block the light. It's glass, and light goes through glass you guys. What's wrong with you 2???Weird!!!
Can you do a video on how to mix different wood colors in your home? For example, if you have hardwood flooring and a hardwood coffee table, can you mix another wood in with that in the same room or would it be too much?
I’ve always loved glass blocks. Kitsch is something with character. I didn’t like all the kitchens, but there was one that was cool, at 8:32 with the nice windows. I could totally dig it!
Remodeling the kitchen and decided on these beautiful and neutral moka colored tiles. The color is very muted with a glossy finish which will off set the white counter top and white cabinets. I'm not a designer so hopefully it looks like the quiet luxury 😂😂😂😂
I love your quirky vids that you and your hubby do - Sending greetings from Australia! ❤ Where are you located? It looks very pretty. Totally agree with you about the glass bricks! They are everywhere in the suburb I live in including our neighbours house... and we look onto them 😂 Don Johnson 80's haha!
Glass blocks are the antithesis of sophisticated. They are busy and sterile and feel like a dentist office. The grout is dingy, the light is dingy. When you imagine a sophisticated or serene space, there are no glass blocks.
I like the 80’s glass blocks. And I love Miami vice style clothing from the 80’s. Just because these designers don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s not nice. Don’t let them continue to tell you what to like.
I know this video didn’t include everything in your bedroom, but I can’t help but to say I LOVE that faux tree you have in there! Could you please share where it came from, ty!
Valentina, I truly enjoy watching you and Jack. Actually, I like most of your taste in furnishings. I am a mixture of transitional, contemporary and modern. In my observation ABSOLUTELY NOT CRITICISM , your perspective seems only to be black or white and that to me limits your ability to give a client anything else. There is life after black and white and it is called color be it quiet or bold. You share your opinion as if it were law. I see many incredible and well known designers who are able to see and decorate beyond their own styles. Perhaps you might watch Rebecca Roberson OR Ashley Childers, or Debbi Stolle. I adore your personality and style and the joy you bring to all but please temper your opinions to you not as if they are law in decorating. Rebecca Robeson just went through 18 design styles and what they consisted of with videos of each, Jeri
We moved from NY to Jacksonville last year. Looked at tons of gorgeous homes and EACH one of them had stucco walls, if that’s the correct word for textured walls. Never saw it up north. Thought perhaps it had something to do with the climate….anyway my home and every home we saw had that and even though I am not familiar with it, the homes are nevertheless beautiful! Not every home has to have flat walls.
Curved furniture. Absolutely NOT, especially islands that are curved on the ends! This one actually shows up a lot in tandem with my other huge hate (that is in every shelter mag currently). And what is that, you may ask? Kitchens, bathrooms, and bars or dining room furniture with reeding or ridging! Aside from being a hugely identifiable trend that will instantly date your home or renovation (much like 80s era curtains) reeded wood items are unbelievably difficult to keep clean, especially in kitchens (where steam, grease, and dust combine). It's hard enough to clean a lot of kitchen cabinets. These ones are *never* going to be clean, because they have so many nooks and crannies. I won't fault someone if they want to do reeded glass in a couple of upper cabinets, to somewhat obscure the contents. I just suggest putting the flat side facing out and the textured side on the inside of the cabinet. Same look. Easier to maintain. Easy to switch out when you tire of the look.
Your thoughts are so aligned with me..... hate glass block, HATE Kitch, hate wall murals for me I would be bored in a week, tiles- NO way, no to the gold!
Yes to: quiet luxury (best of this list), solid zellige, lime wash, white lamps, portable lamps if I needed them. Ehh, hell no to: burled wood, glass bricks, gold walls, sculptural pendants, kitsch (the worst offender in this batch and I don’t understand the aesthetic hey but if someone loves it, go for it), Maybe: wall mural but I’d have to love it to bits and would have to be calming and fairly neutral, new pretty (not really into boucle), curves but not on everything and not much in cabinetry, I’m a recluse so not into a lot of seating. 😊
No to everything except quiet luxury. I feel quiet luxury isn't a trend on its own per se, but more a sub trend within styles. My go-to style is Australian coastal, that can be as beachy kitch or subtle coastal as you like. I feel quiet luxury is what takes it to a more subtle but sophisticated level. As for curves, mostly no but I would consider it for something like an kitchen island edge - but only if it's a subtle curve.

I totally agree about the glass blocking that's located in the showers and sometimes against the wall, that is so old school let's get with it

Yeah. It totally depends on how they are used.

Those wall murals are great for closets. I pop of surprise color in an unexpected place.
Textured walls are great. Adds texture and changing light effect during the day is great. I kept Wall and rug tones neutral-warm.

Just goes to show you - stay with classics and add touches that make your house you! You’ll save a lot of time and money.
Agree with everything you said in this video
My new way of decorating is only use or buy what you love and makes you happy…I don’t really go for trends unless I love it..I’m more eclectic…I love new with old…
So agree with your list of No's! I too have thought about a large wall mural on the curved wall we have from our first floor leading upstairs. Can't figure out what to do with such a large curved wall. Would love it if you did a video on ideas that might not be crazy expensive. 😊
You guys are delightful, we can see your love working and being happily married. Beautiful taste in what you share with us. Thanks
I love😂glass blocks. Done right.
Burl wood looks fake.😂
Omg your so mean, Kitch is fun. Just cuz you like sophisticated..
don't abuse the bright fun personality types😮.😮😮😮
My house has plaster walls and I love the texture. I don't like the spray texture that looks like cottage cheese but plaster or mud texture I think is timeless and beautiful..
I love the glass.
Love all the quiet luxury rooms and abhor all the ”Kitschy” stuff 😛
I love your earrings, I need a link!
I love glass blocks. No to wall paper. Quiet luxury yes please. Modern sofas, love love. No tile anywhere. Gold is trending in Italy. Hate texture. Love curves and social seating. Thanks ❤
I LOVE peace and quiet luxury looks
Kitsch looks like a 5 yr olds play house.😂 I am trying to decide between Moroccan tiles or a Portuguese tile for my back splash. I love both.
Quiet luxury is my up most favorite and I did like new pretty for my room
(Ballet core )
Glass Blocks: Ehh! :) But love the light burled wood, modern luxury, and curves trend. Fun video.
Love you guys ! Loved this video.
Eww, to glass blocks. I love you two on here the perfect back and forth to bounce ideas off one another.
Glass bricks, I like it.
glass blocks --I love them. In the 60's, houses in Guatemala city had these --I love them. They let the light in, they don;t block the light. It's glass, and light goes through glass you guys. What's wrong with you 2???Weird!!!
Burled wood... beautiful!!!
quiet luxury is def approachable, if it's a hotel lobby. I could never feel comfortable in that space 🤣 I would be afraid to get something dirty
No boucle
Agreed! Those photos are hideous. 😮Bozo lives in the kitch house!
Can you do a video on how to mix different wood colors in your home? For example, if you have hardwood flooring and a hardwood coffee table, can you mix another wood in with that in the same room or would it be too much?
Thank you V/Jack very informative…as always!!! Blessings!!!
Kitch 10
Glass blocks 9
I’ve always loved glass blocks.
Kitsch is something with character. I didn’t like all the kitchens, but there was one that was cool, at 8:32 with the nice windows. I could totally dig it!
So agree with you about the glass blocks; hated them then and still hate them now.
Remodeling the kitchen and decided on these beautiful and neutral moka colored tiles. The color is very muted with a glossy finish which will off set the white counter top and white cabinets. I'm not a designer so hopefully it looks like the quiet luxury 😂😂😂😂
Ballet core could be CHANEL inspired
I love your quirky vids that you and your hubby do - Sending greetings from Australia! ❤ Where are you located? It looks very pretty. Totally agree with you about the glass bricks! They are everywhere in the suburb I live in including our neighbours house... and we look onto them 😂 Don Johnson 80's haha!
Glass blocks are the antithesis of sophisticated. They are busy and sterile and feel like a dentist office. The grout is dingy, the light is dingy. When you imagine a sophisticated or serene space, there are no glass blocks.
God he loves you. I would pay by the hour to have someone grin attentively at me. Charming couple. ❤❤
I hate glass blocks! The only thing I disagreed with was the tile. I think the Moroccan tiles are timeless if done well. The rest was spot on for me.
Limewash absolutely
I like the 80’s glass blocks. And I love Miami vice style clothing from the 80’s. Just because these designers don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s not nice. Don’t let them continue to tell you what to like.
Zellige tile is on my to do list!
Rebecca Robeson just went through 18 design styles and what they consisted of with videos of each,
Jeri
I TOTALLY AGREE!
P S. Your Quiet Luxury Video Sent me to Heaven !!!😮😮😮😊❤

Yes Quiet Luxury!! 😍
I loved you both ♥️ so sweet 😊
The clown comment cracked me up! Bonzo😂
