Literally just got some seam sealer and then this video came up. Great timing. I got Gear Aid Seam Grip + SIL if anyone's looking for a solution in Canada.
I always seam seal my silnylon tarps on the inside. That way you'll still have a pretty tarp from the outside. I pitch the tarp in my garage and apply my homemade sealant (silicone mixed with mineral spirits), with a tiny brush. It's far easier that way in my opinion and you don't have to crawl on your knees...😂 I leave them hanging for 24 hours, before packing them up. 🙂
I suggest using clear plasti-dip in a spray can. It’s not as permanent as “seam sealer”. I do two passes, with each pass down the seam offset by about four inches so that I’m overlapping the seam on each pass. The product is basically spray rubber, and it will peel off if you need it to. It generally stays put on my tarps.

Ok, so I just got my Skjøld UL-tarp and want to seal it before I use it so I dont have to start with the isopropynol. BUT I dont have anywhere to stretch it out inside. I dont have the floorspace and there's always alot of doghair even if you vakume 100 Times 🙈😅 My thought where to do it on a bed (180x200cm, and do it one half at a time. But then I was told I should pitch it to stretch the seam out so I really get the seam seal in there. Outside its not that dry this time of the year here on Öland, outside Swedens Coast and Im afraid it would take long for it to set and the nights are quite cold and damp even if it wouldnt rain. So now I dont really know what way to go...?
I don't know if you finished seam sealing yet, but here is what I did. I attached the guy lines to the the latch on two windows in my house and stretched the tarp out. This left it suspended across my kitchen and dining room and I was able to stand up to seal it. I also have a very hairy dog and managed to keep the seam hair-free. I hope this helps!

Did this yesterday and this afternoon it's still tacky and not dry 😬😬😬. I think I put too much... Hope it will dry soon but feels just as sticky as the moment it was applied.
I must be part of the 95%. I have had no issues with mine. If I do seam seal mine I think I will do the inside for a better look. #besthammockoutthere #Amok
Hi there, We recommend sealing the outside of the tarp to avoid water permeating the seam. If you seam seal the inside you could risk water getting "stuck" in the seam which over time can potentially weaken the seam seal. This is not a big issue unless you keep your tarp set up for a longer period of time, but this is our recommendation seen from a conservative perspective. We want our products to last and to keep you dry as long as possible :) Team Amok
The Amok is waterproof too...the seam seal is an option. You don't have to use it, but like any design that has a seam or fixing that has been stiched, it's gonna get weak over time, and probably a good idea to seam seal just in case. I have 3 DD tarps (and a hammock system), which all work fine, but the Amok system is a different beast

I have not needed to seal my Amok tarps they have performed well
hey Jon

I'm the lucky 5%, feel special :). Amok support pointed to this great video, thank you. I'd rather have the superior material and seal the seams.
Pro tip: use painters tape on both sides of the seam. I find it’s really easy to do and you won’t make a mess.
No leaks in my tarp so far works like a dream. All the best guys

Good tips. Not everyone has a garage though;)

Cool, would like to test that, do you have a link to where they sell the product you use? Best regards- Team Amok

Why would you seal the outside??

Do i need to seam seal the original grey Borg tarp (which came with the Amok XL)?
Thanks for asking, nope:) That one was taped at the factory and is in a different material compared to the Skjold.
DD manage to make their tarps waterproof

@@GeorgeMcKnight never had a problem with my skjold 10 tarp to be fair as you say its handy to have the seam sealant if needed
