If I had not already bought one, I'd have found your review to be PRICELESS in making my decision. Just for giggles, the name “Draumr” is actually an old variant of the Norwegian word for dreams, “Fjøl” means a board of wood, like a cutting board. “Skjold” simply means shield. Great and informative review!

According to Amok “Draumr” is old Norwegian for “dream” or Drømmer”.

Every time I see one I wish I had paid extra for the camo version, it's a really cool pattern. Otherwise I couldn't recommend the draumr 5.0 enough, it's ridiculously comfortable and easy to set up. PS, for anyone who isn't sure about whether they should get the winterlite pad, I use mine all year, it really doesn't get too warm in the summer especially if you flip it upside down. PPS, if you're 5"10 or 5"11 I would recommend NOT getting the XL, I wasn't sure but personally I really prefer being able to cram my pillow into the head end vs having it just sitting there with the extra 6 inches on each end.

Thank you for the flipping it upside down in the warmer weather tip.Dont know why I didn't think of this.I been using mine in warmer weather and getting the Insulation damp with sweat,so I was going to get the uninsulated one but I will try this tip first to save money.

Thanks for your comment. I am 183cm/6ft and was pretty anxious about choosing between the regular and XL but this comment gave me the confidence to order the regular and I couldn't be happier. Maybe some people find the regular to be a bit crammed but I really dont find any issue at all especially with the aluminium poles. I really recommend them if you are right in between the sizes as a stick might not give the perfect structure and leave the ends draping in a bit reducing space.

My first impression is that it's heavy and bulky in total... A small silicone tent or a lightweight hammock is much smaller and lighter.

@@1999worldjacob Hi and thanks for asking. I did a very big mistake. The pad (Fjøl) is sold out and they do not get new deliveries before August this year. I used one I had from before but it was about 20 cm to short and at least 5 cm less wide. I could not stabilize the Hammock so I had to lower it to the ground:-) Lesson learned, so no I'm waiting until they get Fjøl pads on stock again and I will try it again. Meanwhile I'm sleeping in tent:-)

If you don’t like confined spaces this hammock is for you, last night was number 19 sleeping at home, I love this Amok so much and a fraction of the cost of a bed base and good mattress. Buy direct from Amok they ship so fast. Brilliant review, best I have seen on YT.

I was between this hammock and the Blueridge Lawson hammock tent. I went with the Lawson because you get the rain fly, underquilt, and gear sling all in one package. I also appreciate not needing a customized sleeping pad which lets me use my own. You can also use the Lawson on the ground without trees if need be. Sadly no chair mode which is my only regret about not getting the draumr

  • @MrBalas3

Well done video on the Amok.
I have the Draumr XL with the Borg tarp from a couple years back and find it problematic. My biggest issues that I’ve experienced have been that the pad bunches up. It doesn’t want to stay flat no matter how much I pump it. I’ve also tried an Exped pad albeit shorter, but exactly the same form with baffles vertical as necessary. Also when turning from side to side the pad will flip down and quickly back up which is so annoying. When getting into the Amok due it swinging up as you show in your video it knocks into the tarp and yanks the guy lines out of the ground. If one sleeps like a mummy this type of hammock would be great. For me it’s not been fruitful. I could go on 😒. I emailed with the company, but they don’t really have any answers seeming that I can use the pad on the ground so it doesn’t have any leaks. Just my 2 cents.

Who knew that they would create a Barcalounger hammock? LOL! Seriously, pretty cool hammock. Your review was excellent and thank you for showing us how to get in and all of the different ways you can sit in it. (I actually chuckled when you got in and it dropped almost to the ground. 😊) Of course, I love the tarp layout. They should include the pole kit. Without it you're limited and have to find the perfect stick. Not my cup of tea after investing my money for the comfort.

i have this, and have been using for a couple of times. Only gripe i have with it is that when you are inside your sleeping bag the surface is very slippery. And that can be kinda a faff when trying to stretch for the bugnet. On a other note. it's really good to sleep in it. Im a side sleeper and it is so comfortable. Only tip i can give for me atleast is that you can use a foam mat inside to make it less slippery inside from what ive tried

I’m undecided on whether to get one. Very cool and plenty of trees here in Colorado, but not so good for desert trips in say, Utah. Also, is there enough space to stow your backpack inside maybe in the foot well or to the side? 👍👍

    • @glommamygg
      @glommamygg 2 роки тому

There is no place to stow your backpack in the hammock. However, what I do is that I will lay my backpack under the hammock on the ground, the tarp will keep it dry if it starts raining, if its not raining you can hang your backpack on the straps to the side of the hammock.

I do not like the design of this hammock. While yes, I'm sure it is very comfortable, the best all season is the forest green Haven Tent XL with a ThermaRest MondoKing 3D and snugpack MSS. You can literally go any season, ground or hung, and be extremely comfortable.

4 lbs with the tarp is way to heavy

What’s the difference between this model and the last? For the price that they charge for the tarp it should come seam sealed. That’s ridiculous that it doesn’t. What’s with the nautical terminology for a land use product? Also, the camo pattern is cartoonish. Other than that, seems like a cool hammock.

The seam is sealed with a new type of thread and sewing technique. They just send you the sealant in case it where to leak. They recommend in the instructions not use unless needed.

I agree , I typically don't bother with non seam sealed tents and tarps. This one was well worth the 10 mins to seam seal at home
