I use gyprock cement (don't know if that's what it's called in the US) and apply with a painter's filler blade and sand with a block sander - machine a little too aggressive for edges. Finish with a Greco 395 air assist with a fine tip. Yeah that's over kill I know, but it's fun and I own a couple from my painting days. Cheers from Aus.
Would it yield a good result on the face as well? I have a ton of leftover 3/4 plywood I wanna build a background for on the wall by my work bench and want to paint it but want the surface to be smooth
Does the drywall compound have any strength? I would think that it would be easy to chip or crack, especially for something like a pantry where the edges of a shelf might get banged a lot with cans. Thanks for the video.
I use powdered filler, mix it with the paint and it produces the same result. Better since you only mix the amount you need, as the powder never hardens and never goes bad. This is actually the video that inspired my last build, a vanity with the entire surface covered with filler, sanded, leveled and smoothed down. The results were amazing, as my plywood surface had the appearance of melamine and was very hard, it was easy to then apply a final 3 coats of lacquer and finish it to a high gloss.
Hi Mikko, just saw this comment. What kind of powdered filler do you mix into the paint, and in what ratio? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.
Can you tell me which sandpapper grit you used. Currently i use 80 for tidy up the face of the edge, then i used woodfiller to fill a void and small dent, then i sand it with 240 grit. But it doesn't look good
I have tried this on my closet shelve project and gave an excellent result. Thank you for posting the video!
Any issues as time went on? Any shrinkage or cracking?
Yes, paint over the edges of the plywood is very difficult. Good video. Like!

I'd have to question the durability of this? Does it not crack or come away from the plywood?
Yea, it will definitely crack and have issues if it's not sanded to where it just fills voids.
Wow!! I've been dreading doing edge banding...this sounds perfect!!!

I haven't had any chip off of the piece in this video. It's the top of a half wall and gets bumped with chairs and stuff all the time.
@@JoshMillarTheWoodMillar Thanks, Josh!
Lee, try drywall adhesive it sets like a rock!

Do you have any tips on how to paint plywood that has been turned into Cross Fit Box?
I was just dealing with this yesterday. Good vid, man.
+Jason K. Hope I can help!
Question: Would not wood filler be a better choice ?
+Sajid Rafique wood filler is much more expensive and in my opinion it doesn't look as good after paint is applied. But wood filler will work as well.
Josh Millar I saw another video in which he applied caulk instead of drywall compound
+Sajid Rafique yeah that's another way to do it too

Brilliant
100 should have used a taping knife to apply!
