I'm a pump mechanic for the citynof LA. I maintain several waste water plants along the coast I been in there since it started and my words can't explain the devastation you have to see with your own eyes I watched the city dum millions of gallons into a storm drain reservoir for the past few months water they could have used its a leadership issue here.
You are aware the fire was a fire storm event with no air suppression available to supplement. Fire storm is NOT the same as fire events. No city can sustain water enough to supress fire storm Events with sustained 70 mph winds. You live in L.A? You should have known that.
There were so many HUGE fires they had enough hoses laid to pump fully FOUR times the water as usual-for fifteen hours. That’s 15 hours, 4x normal pumping.
@@bigjon.6258 It's clear English pal. Sorry you can't read English. You posted you are a pump mechanic for the City of L.A. so you must live in the Basin. If you don't live here then you probably don't know fire happens here. Fire storm happens here. Pumps and water are worthless fighting fire propelled by sustained wind. These people built homes without suppression enough to handle it and now they want to blame politicians and lack of water for something they couldn't manage with hose and water. Earthquakes happen here too. Who will they blame for that?
Exactly. I mean it's very simple. These people are just so ridiculous. It's probably all planned anyways. And everybody forgot about MAUI HAWAII they were devastated to pretty much nothing and didn't get any help. They had the best fire warning alarm system in the WORLD and it was turned off! They had the water shut off as well. I saw a lot of locals that talked bout that.
The reservoirs were full. : After millions of views spreading lies about the Palisades firefighters lacking water because of regulations, the boring truth comes late like usual and wont be shared. Here it is: 1 - Reservoirs and water tanks were at normal levels and completely full before the fire. 2 - All 114 city water supply tanks were fully stocked pre-fire. 3 - A 15-hour surge at four times normal demand reduced water pressure. 4 - High demand at lower elevations slowed refilling tanks at higher elevations. 5 - This unprecedented fire was fueled by 8 months of no rain and 85 MPH winds. Water is being brought in continuously. 6 - Even if, like Trump claimed, the protection of the Delta Smelt caused over regulation by California, it's the FEDERAL Endangered Species Act that requires the protection of endangered species like the Delta Smelt and their habitats, not Gavin Newsom or California. btw U.S. Insurance companies are pulling out of Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina, Arkansas, Colorado Minnesota, Nebraska & Oklahoma & California I expect the comments to me filled with people personally attacking me for putting this information out. Thanks.
This wasn't exactly unprecedented, these late in season HOT/ DRY windstorms have been documented for nearly 100 years. The state has also mandated increased housing in fully developed neighborhoods, which has allowed/forced more building in hillsides and increased housing density. Also little to no improvement in aging infrastructure, typically only when breakage occurs.
The problem is, is they installed DEI fire hydrants they only work on certain days, they get a lot of holidays, and they really weren’t built to do what they need to do anyways, and they’re painted all the wrong colors
I heard on TV last night Mayor Karen Bass said there was no water pressure because there was no wind. But was there water pressure when the winds were 100?
Fire hydrants need maintenance. They need flushing and fixing. It is the most important part of the job. These hydrants were ignored and not maintained. The buck stops at the Fire Chief.
@@Rj-yr1br There were so many HUGE fires they had enough hoses laid to pump fully FOUR times the water as usual-for fifteen hours. That’s 15 hours, 4x normal pumping.
@OsirisIxchel OK...fires are not new to Malibu and adjacent areas as well as all of SoCal. Maybe they should have a plan in place to fight fires like this that occur evey year.
I've been in the fire service for 31 years. The antiquated way the fire hydrant in California is how they did in the 30s and 40s. Cities never run out, unless pipes bust. ISO that issues fire insurance rates gave LAFD and LACFD the second to worst score. The best is a 1 they have a 8. Don't let the media gas light you. The water systems is third world country country in California .
Did I hear that right that the LA's system of providing water to hydrants is designed to fight a couple of fires at a time? Can that possibly be true? How can you have a city the size of LA and such a limited hydrant water supply system?
Outrage is boiling over after revelations that the Santa Ynez Reservoir, a critical water source in Pacific Palisades, was empty and offline when a devastating wildfire ripped through the area. The Los Angeles Times reported that despite the reservoir’s critical role in the city’s water infrastructure, it had been offline for nearly a year. The Santa Ynez Reservoir, with a capacity of 117 million gallons, could have played a critical role in providing water pressure to firefighters battling the devastating fire that destroyed thousands of homes and buildings in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Malibu.
Definitely has nothing to do with dam removals, or empty reservoirs. And they definitely couldn't use water from the largest body of water on earth or anything
It's a fire in SoCal...it just caught them by surprise! How could they ever plan for something like this. Oh well maybe they will do something next time this happens.
And when were the people told, we don't have enough fire hydrants, tanks and/or water pressure to put out a large scale event? Why in a state that has "fire season" and this event was always a possibility was finding a solution to this problem not explored? Why did these residents pay taxes for services that were not available? Why were building permits issued to build homes that couldn't be protected? All the answers are the same, money. More homes, more tax money and lets cross our fingers that we don't have a massive wildfire we can't put out. That's not even considering generations of knowledge on how to prevent fuel for these fires to spread to lay on the ground. These people who think they know better than 1000's of years of forestry maintenance sat back and allowed these peoples lives to be destroyed. Tax money paid for services promised but not available is fraud but no one will be held accountable. This is heartbreaking to watch, can't imagine living it.
They just raised taxes for firefighters and 911 system. They are going to come back and say they need more money to fix it....and they never will, just like every other problem that keeps them in power.

is there a reason why water were shut off at homes instead of gas lines? there were homes that were burnt the crisps and their gas lines are still flaming. 🤔
Apparently that’s expecting too much from the highest paid civilian employee in Los Angeles. She makes $750,000 a year which is twice what her predecessor made and she can’t even keep water in the reservoir.

Not to be mean, but you all made your bed, now you get to lay in it.
Investigation will reveal what we already know... fire hydrants and the water lines that supply water are designed for fighting much smaller fires. In residential areas, hydrants are able to supply water for 1 or 2 structures. In commercial areas, hydrants supply water for 1 large structure. It is IMPOSSIBLE to supply enough water to fight 1,000's of fires at the same time. Water mains would have to be 5 feet in diameter, not the 8 or 12 inch they are now. This can't be 'fixed' and is NO ONES fault. It is reality.

Newsome has areas of competence. It's just that none of them are helpful in solving the problems of a city, state, or nation.
