Its hard to think Sensei Pogue is no longer with us. I always enjoyed seeing his displays of kata, bunkai and his never ending desire to explore and discover. His work lives on thru this channel and his students.

Shotokan is a sister system to the Shorin-Ryu that I practice. The founder of Shotokan (Funikoshi) and the founder of my type of Shorin-Ryu (Chibana) both had the same teacher (Anko Itosu). I am really glad that this video has helped you, I wish that Karate practitioners would share more between the styles. We can all learn from each other.

I am glad that this is helping you to believe in the traditional arts again. I didn't get all of this from one teacher who lived near me. I developed this from reading, traveling to seminars and researching karate anywhere and everywhere I could. If you have someone to practice with you could build
knowledge a little at a time in this way. Please let me know if I can help.

Much improved oyo application of kata.
Sequences are short and to the point.
Stances used very well with footwork to unbalance the attacker. Good use of open hand and entrapments.
Look next at takedown, reversal from the floor. This kata is adaptable to bottom up fighting.
    very nice closed hand choking.
I suggest you work Chinto with Nihanchi on a bench.

Still one of my favourite bunkai demonstrations Of All Time! I think I asked this before (somewhere), but I just gotta know, do you practise Taichi on the side, Sensei Poage? It's the way you move and transition. Reminds me of Wudang.

      +Kevin Sim Hi Kevin,
Sensei Poage does not practice Tai Chi, but Shorin-Ryu can be made to flow in a similar manner
