Really great. One tip I was taught that might be useful: Wherever the guy's shoulders are is where his feet are, so there's no need to look down to see where his lower leg or knee is. His shoulder tells you where to aim.

I’m 71 and have practiced martial arts for 63 years. I used to be able to roundhouse kick over the top of anyone’s head, I used to be able to go hard for 10 minutes without dropping… now I have MAYBE 30 seconds and I’m finished. I can’t kick higher than anyones belly so I have perfected a few Fairbairn style moves and also study the Bubishi intently for strike points. I pity anyone attacking me because they won’t see it coming and I won’t be there when they get up. I have the inside limit of 10 seconds to do or die. Practice a LOT and HARD.

A good kick I learned in Kara ho kempo when attacked from behind is the mule kick with a concurrent knife hand, both targeting the groin at once.
As noted in this demo, the low kicks still having vulnerability. However, stepping off at a 45 degree angle just before executing a low kick allows you to veer from his punch.

. Great Subject . This is just me , but I never practice bringing my rear kicking leg back to where it came from . If I'm power kicking it mean I'm in in attack mode and the kick is part of my entry . If I plant it back I'm undoing any advantage the kick bought me plus my weight is now going the wrong way if my opponent charges during or after my kick . Planting back is a sporting version of kicking where you are sometimes trying to maintain distance not close it . The reason I bring this up is at my age , 58, my balance isn't as good as it was so even if I DID want to plant it back its even riskier now so I don't want to create a training scar .

One of the top students was an older guy who had been a black belt in judo and was now a black in karate and I was encouraged by the fact that he was not flexible and could not kick high at all. Good evening.
I congratulate you for this video.
A real use of legs to properly kicking like in old traditional Martial Arts and Combat Sports.
In Nihon JuJutsu, Judo and Aikido, we always use this kind of Atemi or leg and feet strikes.
Even old Okinawa Kempo Karate Jutsu or Okinawate, used low kicking range and that was present into Bunkai Kata.
And just to finish and with all my respect. I humbly advise the spanish Instructor to improve better English phonetics. It's a pity that talking with a correct english grammar not trying to improve a british pronunciation.
    I insist, please.
I pray you to excuse me but it's far of my intention to insult and seem unrespectful.
I learnt english at the UK and people helped me a lot improving and overcoming my phonetics.
Best wishes and blessings from Spain and sincere congratulations for the video.

Oh my, to be 44 once again, nevertheless very well done and appropriate to those of us a bit older, 70+, as can be seen from the other comments below. As you pointed out, even with the flexibility to throw somewhat higher kicks, waist high/stomach,hip... the lack of power or speed, or both can easily get one's foot or leg grabbed. Keeping it low can avoid getting toppled and still deliver something that may likely save the day.

  • @ra8640

"44" is not old. It was funny hearing this. When I was 44 I could kick fairly well at all heights. Now in my 60s I've lowered my kicks for use in self defense. As for hands, more eye finger jabs, throat with knuckles (leopard punch), anything nasty that will get me and loved ones home safe.

He would say that, in a real fight, any low kick to the knee could end it right there and then. He would even include kicks and sweeps to the ankles in his training routines.

Stop the nonsense, 44 is not that old. I’m 61 and have trained in Krav Maga and Muay Thai for 6 years. I can still do everything I was able to do when I was 44, just slower and not as long. It’s a state of mind and what you believe you can and should be able to do. Never talk your way into being old.

Outsmart your attacker and being ahead of him is obviously needed when facing a younger stronger person

I'd pull your shots a little sooner, some of those hits could have taken out an ACL without much effort, your opponent seemed worried about getting hurt instead of focusing on the training exercise. Great information though, Im a 60 yr old 2nd Dan and I have to remind myself, even though I still train, that Im not 25 anymore lol.

The problem with really low kicks is that you are in punching range and then on one leg. You have to either lean back a bit or set it up , all the while keeping your hands up and ready to protect. All of you demonstrated these kicks while looking down at your targets and being wide open to getting punched. Frontal scratching kick? Really? Also, kicking the knee with your toes or even ball of the foot has a good chance of grazing the knee ineffectually , again leaving you on one leg to get punched.

    • @raullm6820
      @raullm6820 27 днів тому

That's why you need to be controlling and distracting the attacker face and watching out their handa

I’m sorry that your body deteriorated so quickly I was easily doing high kicks mid range kicks thigh kicks, especially in my 40s and in my 50s. This is not unusual for a person who’s been training martial arts uninterrupted since their teams. If you want to teach you on little kicks that’s fine. It’s your channel but don’t try to say that at 44 you watched up and not as powerful

      3) My little kicks, are actually not mine but pretty mainstream for a reason
