say what you want about Alex, but his gay awakening scene (if you play as a male) is honestly so perfect. i have never seen in any other video game where you can date any gender character them actually accnowledging the fact that they are falling for the same gender character. the fact that CA accnowledged that this fuck boy womanizer suddenly dating a man is out of character for someone like him instead of going the rout most games go were "everyone's just bi and no one questions it :)" is honestly so great and i wish more games did this. i think most of the other male characters also have some sorta comment about your character being male, but honestly it's not as impactful as Alex's for me. because Alex is the last guy you'd expect to have gay feelings.

Idk honestly if Harvey or Sam ever even mention it, so it's nice to see that diversity there too Sam and Harvey literally never even question it it's like they just have the revelation part way in to catching feelings that "guess I'm a bit gay ok that's fine"

I'm always here for Demetrius slander. That man is so mean to Sebastian and picks his daughter always over him. He's definitely that step dad and I'm glad I married Sebastian to get him out of such a toxic environment. (I love Robin though, she tries at least 😅) Also I know this is a hot take, but....I really don't care for Shane. Nothing against him but his events causes me anxiety and brings up a lot of dark stuff that I once dealt with. It's a sort of trauma thing for me. I don't hate him, in fact his 8 heart event is wholesome, but I also skip his other ones due to my own problems.
Demetrius infuriates me when he warns you off Maru. She can be in a happy relationship and focus on her career, plus we were just friends and Demetrius was meant to be my friend as well, so why is he so against the idea of me being with his daughter? I think the Shane cut scene should’ve come with a trigger warning. It’s good it’s raising awareness of mental health struggles but it’s upsetting when you or someone you know has felt the same way and it comes out the blue.
no, no, no! demetrius tries to be a proper father figure for sebastian, but it’s obvious that sebastian just doesn’t want that, and he pushes maru away in spite of this; demetrius even reads about how to be a good stepfather (one of the books in his bookshelf in his room). demetrius is protective over maru because she’s his only child that wants a genuine relationship with him, while sebastian wants no part in it. demetrius is one of the coolest NPC’s and doesn’t deserve any of the hate for it. sebastian needs to stop shunning those around him and realize that his family loves him, even when he believes they don’t. demetrius just wants to be a father to him :(
@@maralogue I would say it's both in certain degree. I am married to Sebastian and I really was disappointed when there was no cutscenes for developing a better relationship with his sister or having a more serious or indepth conversation with her mom or Demetrius. I relate to him with the feeling of being left out or not fitting in with a new stepparent or sibling, more when there's a golden child in that dynamic, but he also don't gives himself the opportunity to realize that his mom and Maru still care about him and wish they could get along better (because she does according to some of her dialogue). The Demetrius thing is that some stuff in his room say that he's really trying to be better in his relationships with Sebastian and Robin. But his dialogue and actions never show it. He authentically only cares and talks about Maru, he never acknowledges Sebastian and the only interactions they seem to share are always negative (like the ice monster he forced Sebastian to undo, even when it's harmless behavior), so i wouldn't say he's a terrible person but his interactions make it seem like he's not making a real effort to show to Sebastian that he's part of the family too.

But also think of it like this, while it’s not canon I always took maru being robin and demitrius’s kid, and she’s only a bit younger than Sebastian so if I’m right then robin and demitrius have been married a long time and that implies that these issues have been there since Sebastian was a kid. Again this isn’t confirmed canon but it makes sense imo
Gay Alex is kind of the only valid Alex for me. Although his lines after you start dating him when he says that Haley is nice, but she doesn’t understand him the way you do always gets me in my heart.
Though I dated most of the bachelors and bachelorettes, I picked Krobus as my roommate. While he doesn't do a lot on the farm, he does try to adjust to human life. As your roommate, you learn about Krobus' insecurities including how he's not like his kind, the Shadow People. I love it when Krobus walks out in the rain because the sun isn't out. And happy to hear about his day and give him hugs.
Clint is in the bottom tier for being a "Nice guy" without bothering anyone, just being sad and lonely. Meanwhile Pam is an abusive alcoholic mom, still gets to be one tier higher up. Yeah there are definitely some biases there...

I married Sam in my first ever game when I was like 14 because he looked like a DBZ character and after that I started hating him cause he wouldn’t help out around the farm like Leah and Abigail helped my brother around on his farm and I started considering him a lazy bum but now that I’m older and wiser I realize that the reason he didn’t help out at all was because I literally spent the entirety of spring and summer just fishing for joja colas in the little pond so that I can give them to him so that he’d marry my farmer by autumn/fall and because I had literally like 6 or 7 crops planted and nothing else on my farm. Yeah ik I didn’t really understand how the game worked when I was younger lmao, but now I’m chill with Sam (not my fav but I don’t dislike him either)

I agree with Alex, however Shane kind of makes me uncomfortable cause when I was playing with my brother co-op he managed to get Leah to 3 (or was it 4?) hearts by the flower dance and me being the attention seeking b*tch I am didn’t want to be left out with the irrelevant npcs so I asked Shane to dance with me since he was the the only bachelor/bachelorette I had enough hearts with because I had given him a beer on his birthday (he wasn’t the person I had in mind to romance) and after that every time I walked into a room I’d get one of his heart events which made it feel like he was trying really hard to pursue me which made me uncomfortable so now I associate him with that even though I know it’s completely my fault for asking him to dance that first spring lol

I have a conspiracy theory. When you pass out in the mines, it’s the man from the Adventurer’s Guild that steals your stuff so he can sell it back to you! He’s like, "If you insist I’ll brave the monsters to see if I can get it back for you" and he has it the whole time! I’ve started my farm again because I don’t like the farm types I chose previously and my new character is crushing on Alex! (I usually go for Shane.) I share your feelings about Alex so will be interesting to see how it plays out. Everything he says is like 'ugh' but I kind of see him with my character.
I love Harvey. He's so awkward and nervous and his whole thing with wanting to be a pilot. He's a dork and that's just entirely my thing and he makes the sweetest husband and pluss, he's an adult. Like, I honestly feel a little creepy romancing Sam and Sabastian cause they're like fresh out of high school. Sam still has a skateboard and I'm expected to believe he's ready to have Kids? Nah. Harvey on the other hand is a doctor.
I don't recommend Shane. I tried for a couple of years, and I even had his kids, but no matter what, he's always drinking, so I divorced him and married Maru instead. He literally made me hate men.

U do get something for making a really good soup at the luau! Items with high quality, high selling price, and high healing effect are what u wanna go for.. if he likes the soup a lot, you gain a bunch of friendship points with almost everyone in town. fun fact there is also another cut scene when you complete robin's billboard task (hardwood for a bed I think), where he takes it all personally that no one agrees with him and is like 'i can see im not wanted' even though it literally was something that made robin happy regardless of weather or not it was 'practical' in his words and its like wow robin you deserve so much better. You should definitely try to see that cut scene because nothing cemented my hate for him more than to see him putting down his wife like that honestly.

I like how Shane became everybody's guilty crush. My first husband was Sebastian but my second farm I married Shane because he was always in the back of my mind. Let's just say he's my favorite one now. My sister played the game too and she married Shane and I was jealous cause I thought my crush on him wasn't common but looking at the Stardew valley community it's apparently common to like him.
Little Shane rant because I'm a simp Shane is the best character in Stardew Valley for me. I absolutely adore him. It's stupid, like he makes me so genuinely happy in this game (how does Stardew do this? How am I so dedicated to a marriage in a video game? What the fuck?) but I have a lot of reasons for it. At first I really hated Shane. I hated the idea of him, I hated how mean he was, I didn't get the vibe. I was super judgmental about people who chose to date him because of the 'savior complex' and all that. However, upon doing his cutscenes and choosing to marry him in game I obviously changed my mind. To say that you as the player is who saves Shane is absolutely discrediting him. The amount of work that Shane puts in to better himself is incredible. He is an extremely unhappy person who has made a lot of mistakes and has a lot of self hatred because of that. He has given up on himself, and resents himself for not being able to change. However, he goes through the work. He sobers himself up. He becomes a better uncle (father figure) to Jas. He finds new strategies to avoid drinking and to find things in life he actually, genuinely enjoys (taking care of chickens, playing and watching sports, playing video games, drinking soda instead of alcohol). We as the player only give Shane a push. We show genuine interest and care for him which is all he really needs. He just wants there to be someone who hasn't totally given up on him and sees value in him. After that, HE does the work to better himself not only for us but for his family. He has never had positive reinforcement (FUCKING MARNIE a whole other rant that I would love to go on, she is so toxic towards Shane, after being married to Shane holy shit it's on sight for Marnie I'm sorry) all he has is people telling him he's not enough. Even when he does make genuine improvements he is STILL told he is a fuck up and no one puts trust in him except for us as a player. I was so happy when I as the player could take him out of his toxic household where he was able to just be himself with positive reinforcement where he could be appreciated for his improvements! Shane works so hard to be a good person and I love him. Not only that, but he's so cute and dorky. He has cute little jokes, he's so adorable in the morning, he goes to bed at like fucking 8 PM because he gets so tuckered out, he loves his chickens, he's just so fucking cute and sweet. Like every time I talk to him I get so happy. Of course he still struggles with his mental health but that is completely normal and honestly I'm so glad that ConcernedApe kept that as part of his character because mental health is a life long issue that isn't magically healed. However he still goes to therapy and he still finds strategies for himself. Once again, we found him and brought him to the hospital, yes, but HE was the one who chose to go to therapy. HE was the one who acknowledged his problem. The only reason he didn't better himself before the player came into his life was because he only had negative reinforcement. In conclusion, Shane is one of my favorite fictional characters and I love him. You can say I have terrible taste, I don't care, I love a person who truly cares about their mental health and does the work to help themself and is good to their family. Such a king. I love my little sports husband. Rant over lol.

Nothing against him but his events causes me anxiety and brings up a lot of dark stuff that I once dealt with. It's a sort of trauma thing for me.

Demetrius infuriates me when he warns you off Maru. She can be in a happy relationship and focus on her career, plus we were just friends and Demetrius was meant to be my friend as well, so why is he so against the idea of me being with his daughter? I think the Shane cut scene should’ve come with a trigger warning. It’s good it’s raising awareness of mental health struggles but it’s upsetting when you or someone you know has felt the same way and it comes out the blue.
no, no, no! demetrius tries to be a proper father figure for sebastian, but it’s obvious that sebastian just doesn’t want that, and he pushes maru away in spite of this; demetrius even reads about how to be a good stepfather (one of the books in his bookshelf in his room). demetrius is protective over maru because she’s his only child that wants a genuine relationship with him, while sebastian wants no part in it. demetrius is one of the coolest NPC’s and doesn’t deserve any of the hate for it. sebastian needs to stop shunning those around him and realize that his family loves him, even when he believes they don’t. demetrius just wants to be a father to him :(
@@maralogue I would say it's both in certain degree. I am married to Sebastian and I really was disappointed when there was no cutscenes for developing a better relationship with his sister or having a more serious or indepth conversation with her mom or Demetrius. I relate to him with the feeling of being left out or not fitting in with a new stepparent or sibling, more when there's a golden child in that dynamic, but he also don't gives himself the opportunity to realize that his mom and Maru still care about him and wish they could get along better (because she does according to some of her dialogue).
The Demetrius thing is that some stuff in his room say that he's really trying to be better in his relationships with Sebastian and Robin. But his dialogue and actions never show it. He authentically only cares and talks about Maru, he never acknowledges Sebastian and the only interactions they seem to share are always negative (like the ice monster he forced Sebastian to undo, even when it's harmless behavior), so i wouldn't say he's a terrible person but his interactions make it seem like he's not making a real effort to show to Sebastian that he's part of the family too.

But also think of it like this, while it’s not canon I always took maru being robin and demitrius’s kid, and she’s only a bit younger than Sebastian so if I’m right then robin and demitrius have been married a long time and that implies that these issues have been there since Sebastian was a kid. Again this isn’t confirmed canon but it makes sense imo
Alex is actually a really great character- BUT I UNDERSTAND THE SLANDER.

Though I dated most of the bachelors and bachelorettes, I picked Krobus as my roommate. While he doesn't do a lot on the farm, he does try to adjust to human life. As your roommate, you learn about Krobus' insecurities including how he's not like his kind, the Shadow People. I love it when Krobus walks out in the rain because the sun isn't out. And happy to hear about his day and give him hugs.
When Amanda says "You either love them or hate them" it is almost certainly going to end with a prolonged rant about how she chooses to hate.

I married Sam in my first ever game when I was like 14 because he looked like a DBZ character and after that I started hating him cause he wouldn’t help out around the farm like Leah and Abigail helped my brother around on his farm and I started considering him a lazy bum but now that I’m older and wiser I realize that the reason he didn’t help out at all was because I literally spent the entirety of spring and summer just fishing for joja colas in the little pond so that I can give them to him so that he’d marry my farmer by autumn/fall and because I had literally like 6 or 7 crops planted and nothing else on my farm. Yeah ik I didn’t really understand how the game worked when I was younger lmao, but now I’m chill with Sam (not my fav but I don’t dislike him either)

I agree with Alex, however Shane kind of makes me uncomfortable cause when I was playing with my brother co-op he managed to get Leah to 3 (or was it 4?) hearts by the flower dance and me being the attention seeking b*tch I am didn’t want to be left out with the irrelevant npcs so I asked Shane to dance with me since he was the the only bachelor/bachelorette I had enough hearts with because I had given him a beer on his birthday (he wasn’t the person I had in mind to romance) and after that every time I walked into a room I’d get one of his heart events which made it feel like he was trying really hard to pursue me which made me uncomfortable so now I associate him with that even though I know it’s completely my fault for asking him to dance that first spring lol

I’ve started my farm again because I don’t like the farm types I chose previously and my new character is crushing on Alex! (I usually go for Shane.) I share your feelings about Alex so will be interesting to see how it plays out. Everything he says is like 'ugh' but I kind of see him with my character.
If you want to romance Alex I recommend doing it with a male farmer he’s much better in that scenario

fun fact there is also another cut scene when you complete robin's billboard task (hardwood for a bed I think), where he takes it all personally that no one agrees with him and is like 'i can see im not wanted' even though it literally was something that made robin happy regardless of weather or not it was 'practical' in his words and its like wow robin you deserve so much better. You should definitely try to see that cut scene because nothing cemented my hate for him more than to see him putting down his wife like that honestly.

I like how Shane became everybody's guilty crush. My first husband was Sebastian but my second farm I married Shane because he was always in the back of my mind. Little Shane rant because I'm a simp
Shane is the best character in Stardew Valley for me. I absolutely adore him. It's stupid, like he makes me so genuinely happy in this game (how does Stardew do this? How am I so dedicated to a marriage in a video game? What the fuck?) but I have a lot of reasons for it. At first I really hated Shane. I hated the idea of him, I hated how mean he was, I didn't get the vibe. I was super judgmental about people who chose to date him because of the 'savior complex' and all that. However, upon doing his cutscenes and choosing to marry him in game I obviously changed my mind.
To say that you as the player is who saves Shane is absolutely discrediting him. The amount of work that Shane puts in to better himself is incredible. He is an extremely unhappy person who has made a lot of mistakes and has a lot of self hatred because of that. He has given up on himself, and resents himself for not being able to change. However, he goes through the work. He sobers himself up. He becomes a better uncle (father figure) to Jas. He finds new strategies to avoid drinking and to find things in life he actually, genuinely enjoys (taking care of chickens, playing and watching sports, playing video games, drinking soda instead of alcohol).
We as the player only give Shane a push. We show genuine interest and care for him which is all he really needs. He just wants there to be someone who hasn't totally given up on him and sees value in him. After that, HE does the work to better himself not only for us but for his family. He has never had positive reinforcement (FUCKING MARNIE a whole other rant that I would love to go on, she is so toxic towards Shane, after being married to Shane holy shit it's on sight for Marnie I'm sorry) all he has is people telling him he's not enough. Even when he does make genuine improvements he is STILL told he is a fuck up and no one puts trust in him except for us as a player. I was so happy when I as the player could take him out of his toxic household where he was able to just be himself with positive reinforcement where he could be appreciated for his improvements! Shane works so hard to be a good person and I love him.
Not only that, but he's so cute and dorky. He has cute little jokes, he's so adorable in the morning, he goes to bed at like fucking 8 PM because he gets so tuckered out, he loves his chickens, he's just so fucking cute and sweet. Like every time I talk to him I get so happy. Of course he still struggles with his mental health but that is completely normal and honestly I'm so glad that ConcernedApe kept that as part of his character because mental health is a life long issue that isn't magically healed. However he still goes to therapy and he still finds strategies for himself. Once again, we found him and brought him to the hospital, yes, but HE was the one who chose to go to therapy. HE was the one who acknowledged his problem. The only reason he didn't better himself before the player came into his life was because he only had negative reinforcement.
In conclusion, Shane is one of my favorite fictional characters and I love him. You can say I have terrible taste, I don't care, I love a person who truly cares about their mental health and does the work to help themself and is good to their family. Such a king. I love my little sports husband. Rant over lol.
