I was traveling from Ireland to Zurich and stopped over, walking outside this outdoor arena after this show. I didn't know there was a show that night. I didn't even know who REM was (I know, feck me, right!?). Never heard their music. Anyway, this weido kinda lad comes up and says he wants to walk with me, which honestly was kinda creepy cause he sounded like a California surfer dude and had eye makeup on, but sure. Okay, whatever. Anyway we walk along, and end up going to a bar (cos Guinness, am I right, lads?!?). He had TONS of CASH, all big bills he kept in a big wad, big enough to saddle break a donkey's arse, and to break some hundreds he gets the whole bar several rounds. We talked and talked and drank and drank. He told me everything about his life, where he was from, his early family, he claimed he was "an artist," but didn't mention what he did then for a living. Then I told him my name: Andy McMullins. He told me his: Michael. Fecking. Stipe!!, which meant nothing to me at the time, I just was a loner into drinking tunes, AC/DC, etc, and did not really listen to American pop music. He seemed relieved that I thought he was a regular guy, and to me he was. Got drunk off our arses!!
