I know everyone on here is hating on this car. But my brother in law sells Nissans and you'd be surprised how many people buy these base versas. If you're looking for something for your kid, or if you just want something cheap to get you from A to B it's perfect. These cars are Super reliable and if you're someone who's on a budget, let's face it a lot of us are, these Nissans aren't bad.
I applaud you guys for reviewing cars like this...not everyone has money for expensive cars. You review every class of cars and that's saying more than most review sites. Keep it up guys!
We appreciate that, sometimes it's nice to take a break from such high-trim or high-end cars and review something that MOST of the buying public can afford :)
It’s funny how people complain about having no money yet you can buy way better used cars with 12,000 dollars. This looks so plain and is rated as unsafe garbage.
I am 21 and a college student and I just purchased this car. Say what you will, I LOVE IT. Who needs to roll down the windows when you have AC? And at 40mpg .i just simply can't complain. (:
I just love my 2015 Versa S. I am getting 41 MPGS, it comfortable, and a pleasure to drive. I don't really care about all the fancy options it doesn't have.
This car is a piece of crap just like all other Nissan cars My sh*t Versa cost me $19,000 brand new and now 5 years later needs a new transmission that’s costing me 5 f***in gran!! WORST CAR EVER!!!!!
@@brendas9095 I do feel bad for you, but honestly do not buy a Nissan if you want a reliable automatic. Buy Manual or look somewhere else. Nissan has horrible automatic transmissions for awhile now.
I bought a 2012 Versa sedan 1.6s new in 2012, six years later 153,000 miles, still going strong, this car has been inexpensive, reliable, best car for the money. thank you Nissan.
My boyfriend bought one. His last car had over 500k miles & no AC for years. This has an AC & an aux port. Also gets 34MPG doing 85 going from Las Vegas to LA. Car is great for a basic transportation.
People bitching about this car... You're aware this car can be bought for even less than 10.000 dollars... Car prices in the last five years have sky rocketed and now even sub compact cars are more than 15k... Thanks Nissan !
Check out dealership websites in your area. Town North Nissan here in the Austin TX is advertising this car for $9988 on their website right now, so you wouldn't even have to haggle to get it down to that price if you find the right dealer.
EElectric_M autotrader is a good tool too, found one 75 miles away at 9000, or 8500 if you qualify for the recent college grad rebate. If there's nothing close by you can still get a cheap quote through email and see if your local dealer will match it.
For a 12 grand car. This is incredible! You should have focused more on the positives, rather than pointing out that "this car will always remind you bought the cheapest car in america"
We like to touch base on the positive and negatives of each vehicle we review. We realize this Versa has the simple purpose in life of being affordable transportation to get you from point A to B. We did touch base on some of the positives: cheap to buy/own, spacious interior, new car warranty, peppy acceleration w/ 5-speed. However, personally we just feel you should bump your budget up by a couple grand to get expected features or just purchase a late model used vehicle.
2theRedline That is fair enough. I do agree with you, and that is why before buying my 2014 Mazda 3, all my other cars were second hand. (I even feel I could've got a very nice used car for the price I paid for my Mazda) I just feel that people who choose to buys these cars shouldn't feel that have bought a piece of shit. It is their hard earned money.
2theRedline Please please do a review on the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage 5 speed you do the best reviews you into such detail Im looking at buying but really would love to see a review!!!
Bruno Danese To be brutally honest, this car really is the biggest piece of shit for what it is at a 12 grand price tag. That is what people get for being frugal tight wads and not purchasing a "21st century" vehicle for a couple more grand. Good Lord, save your money until you can afford a nicer car or buy a nicer used car or put the money you have already down and finance the remainder of a new nicer car if you're so impatient. It would be the logical thing to do and would be in your best interest than to purchase this poorly thought of shitty ass mobile.
I know most people here will scoff at this car, but I thank you for at least giving time to even the cheap cars that most enthusiasts wouldn't waste time on. My 2014 Nissan Versa Note S was my first new car and though I'm sure I could have found a better deal in the used market, I thought it was a great buy knowing I wouldn't have any major issues to deal with a 5 Speed that I found was a great first manual to learn on. Yes, manual windows and locks is a bit of an issue for most, but for me coming from an old truck that had window motor problems, it was nice knowing it would never be an issue. The 1.6L motor has plenty of pep for the average driver. I had 4 people in the car a few days ago and I still didn't have an issue accelerating onto the highway. It isn't the best car you can buy, but it isn't the worse buy either. Cheap, easy to maintain, tons of room and good reliability. Not a bad first new car in my opinion.
What the fuck, everyone's talking about how shitty this car is.... I just got it and I fucking love it. I dont know what everyone else's standards are, but I'm coming from a '98 Nissan Altima with 203,000 miles on it... So upgrading to this feels like a goddamn Bugatti to me lmao
+PuppyUnicorn Idk, maybe cause these cars don't hold up well, even in the used car market. I can either get a 2012 Versa for the same price as a much older Civic (maybe an 08 or an 09). They're both economy cars except the Civic is bigger and (imo) looks much nicer.
+PuppyUnicorn I just bought this car to replace a 2000 Honda Accord. I feel the same way.. lol I only owned my Honda Accord 3 years and had to replace the timing belt 3 times. First time was regular maintenance, second time because some other belt went and destroyed it, third time compressor went and destroyed timing belt. $3600 in just timing belt repairs, easily another $1500 in odds and ends and paid a rip off price of $7000 for that car. I bought the Nissan extended warranty to take it to 72 months/75,000 miles bumper to bumper. I love the crank windows, because the windows no longer worked on the Honda, crank ones always work. I love the manual door locks because my previous car, a Saturn SL2 had an electrical gremlin that would make the power door locks randomly spaz out and flick on and off so fast it was like an arcade game getting the door open. The Honda defrost button wouldn't disengage, so, I only had cold air blowing up the window. The Versa I got has a manual slider for the defrost. Give me manual everything. I don't even want power steering! But, well, that came with the Versa. lol
+PuppyUnicorn The lowest cost car is actually the Mitsubishi Mirage. That's because Mitsubishi gives generous cashback deals to make the retail price much, much lower than MSRP .
When you consider that this car will likely have the typically strong Nissan reliability, I think it's a really good value at $12k. At that price point, it would be unfair to criticize a lack of features, interior materials quality, etc. Great review.
My first automobile back in the day was a 10 year old Ford Courier pick up. And it had nothing. No air, no power steering, no power brakes, No halogen bulb headlights. No tape deck. No safety features at all. It didn't even have seat belts, I guess someone removed them. And I liked it! I was happy to have it. People today are so whiny and spoiled. :(
Your truck was 10 years old and probably didn't cost 12k. The point is why spend 12k on nothing when you can spend less on something more. Even for under a few grand you can get a safer and more featured car.
GrandpaChink I get your point about buying a used car with more features for the same money. But that wasn't my point. This car has a ton of safety and luxury features. He is really just complaining about the diva stuff like not having power windows and a soft touch dash board. When I was a teen I would have loved to have a new car as nice as this. I would have just ripped that shitty stereo out and put in a badass after market system. Then I would take the ugly wheels off and put some nice rims on it. Then it would be all good.
jaymum23 I agree. I also had a co-worker that had a very nice black Merc. It was about 8 years old, but he kept it looking like it was new. However, one day he showed up to work in a different car. I ask, where is your Merc? He said I sold the damn thing because whenever it breaks and I take it to the shop I get raped. This Versa is great for those on a really tight budget or if your looking to buy your kid a new car. Really it has everything that you actually need even though it doesn't have everything that you may want. In fact, my mother still drives a 2004 Honda Civic and it has crank windows. She bought it new like that. At least she wont have to worry about the power motor going out. Its not a big deal really. I like her civic. It was a base model, but it did have dealer added mag wheels and window tint. She bought the car because she liked it, and she didn't think crank windows was a big deal. She was driving 100 miles round trip to work everyday. She wanted a cheap to run dependable car that could last a long time. Actually, Its better to own a basic car when its gets old, because its much cheaper to keep it on the road and out of the shop. Her Civic now has 180,000 miles, and the only breakdowns it has had was two wheel bearing have went out. The first one went out under warrenty.
I make $85K a year and I love my 2018 Versa S Plus I’ve gotten 52 miles to the gallon at 60 mph on flat interstate roads from Lubbock TX to Lamesa TX at 65 Mph I get 50.5 mpg at 70-75 mph I get around 40-45 mpg that’s with no wind driving it like an old lady. I’ve had mine for over a year I haven’t had one issue with the car. As well mine has the non power windows non power locks the only thing that is annoying is the non power locks. The air conditioner is extremely good. It does very well in snow last winter we had 10 inches of snow for one week in Lubbock and I never got stuck. I’m 6.4 and 280 and I fit perfect in the car I commute 50 miles each ways to work so 100 miles round trip or 160 kilometers a day. Currently I’ve put 44,242 miles on it a little over a year. Around 80,000 kilometers. Only part that sucks about the car is the stereo there’s no real adjusting of the EQ so when you fully turn it up the speakers distort a little. But just buy a double din aftermarket stere and 4 aftermarket 6.5 inch speakers other then that so far it’s been an amazing little car. It navigates thru traffic well.
Just remember folks, a Yugo had an MSRP of $3990 in 1985. Adjusted for inflation, that is $8872. The Versa starts off at $11950 MSRP and if you buy through truecar.com (true car estimate) is around $10,300 in my area. So basically, adjusted for inflation with the understanding you're getting more features and creature comforts, this car is basically less expensive than a Yugo.
When I saw an ad on Craiglist about a 2015 car that has a clean title for only 3,600 $, I couldn't believe my eyes. This is of course was back then in 2019. I went straight and I bought it. I am a college student, recently immigrated to the United States. Now in 2021, the car still drives with no issue, looking back at my decision buying this car, I absolutely have no regret whatsoever! People at different stages in life have different needs.
But hey, for 12k it has wheels and goes, and no one else had it before you. What other car in America today can say that? I actually rather like the simplicity of it.
I agree. You're getting the same engine as the 20k decked out model! Usually in cheap base cars they put a specific awful engine in there to inflict pain on the buyer. And it has A/C too - that used to be a $1k option on cheap base cars. The lack of features can be a plus, for instance you can put your own kick-ass sound system in there easily.
***** The point is that you aren't paying for junk that you're going to be removing anyway. Even 50k luxury cars have sound systems that are sub-par for audiophile tastes. So there is a perk after all: Saving money in your wallet.
I have the 2012 S 5spd. $10,990 MSRP, prior to the addition of a tach and bluetooth. For a cheap car Nissan did an excellent job. Mine has 160k and aside from regular/scheduled maintenance it has needed nothing. Like, nothing. And being a broke student I maintain it like I maintain my diet - as cheap and sparse as possible to get through each day. It just doesn't care. It doesn't give up. It just accepts that it is being driven by a 24 year old engineering student. If it needs something I take it to some old garage with a $50 shop rate. It's not even like I drive it conservatively - I drive like a complete ass. I'm utterly shocked at how well this car has held up. It probably has another 100k in it. I got a new car so I could have one less thing to worry about in college and it's done the job so, so well.
Lol it might not be made out of the best materials but it is very reliable and a gas saver I got the s plus model and I'm proud of it cause this is my first car ever and I bought it a couple months ago when I was 19 the point is I'm very fucking grateful for my car and the fact that I was able to get it.
Take care of it, maintain it, keep it til the wheels fall off and you bought a home. Be smart. Drive this car through getting a home and over 200k. Many people make the mistake of more debt for no reason.
Ha! Try driving my old 1998 Civic DX coupe, It has less equipment than that. For me, this car would be a big step up. Not everyone can afford the luxuries you are fortunate enough to take for granted. That said, thank you for reviewing something many of us are required to shop.
I don't like how you always say cheap. You do need to take in mind some people can't afford a huge car payment. Me for example just bought one but I can't afford a huge payment being 21 and a recent college grad. I am proud that I can afford my first new car even if it's the "cheapest car in America". Also the s+ is a little nicer. That is what I got from my plus.
Joseph Miranda You could have bought a much nicer pre-owned car. Is having a brand new car so important to you that you are willing to suffer driving around this penalty box of a car?
Some of these cars have the cruise control module in the steering wheel and all you have to do to get yourself cruise control is to swap the steering wheel with one that has it. Do some homework, but sometimes it works.
Uber requires me in Dallas to get the Dallas city inspection for cab and limo drivers. It requires all power equipment the vehicle came with have to function, therefore I cannot driver Uber with my Chevy Impala with driver door power lock not functional. This is a very easy way around stupid rules like that. Very good rideshare. Cheap plastics are easier to clean when you have messy riders too.
My first new car was an '83 Nissan Sentra Base MSRP $4949. Loved that car, bought 3 more over the years. Versa S 5-speed is my next new car. $11,900 is a no brainer.
Damn...this guy makes me almost feel like a cheap ass for getting this car but I don't care. Coming from a 1997 Acura TL with no ac in the dead heat of Texas I'm happy I bought this vehicle today! #BLESSED
You should be proud that you are able to get a new reliable car. We have a serious problem were we are hyper critical of what others think of us. Somehow we cannot be a "cheapskake" and get away with it mentally. I always try my best to get good deals and pay extra on things that are worth it.
I know that this car is extremely basic (you get what you pay for), but you do get some bang for your buck. I like the fact that you reviewed this car, even though you're used to reviewing high-end makes and models. It's a good change of pace.
challenge accepted! For real though, I have never seen one break. I bought a used 2009 Chevy Impala six years old with two broken cheap Chinese power door locks.
Bought a 2016 thanks to your review... was looking at a new equinox... but a new equinox looses almost 20k after 5 years. Bought my versa new for just over 10k, I could literally drive my versa for 2.5 years, light it on fire, buy another versa and drive it for 2.5 years... push that one off a cliff.... and I still would be out the same amount of money as if I would have bought a new equinox. Thanks for reviewing modest cars.
This review is too harsh. Expecting an Infinity? This car is an incredible value, as judged by the competition. It's better-looking, roomier, and cheaper than its closest competitors. Comparing brand new cars to used cars is comparing apples to oranges, an entirely separate discussion, and has no place in a new car review. The fact that Mitsubishi can sell 3-cylinder Mirage for more, as well as the fact that off-brand Korean cars also cost more are evidence of what a good deal this car is.
+David C Schlesinger Nope, he didn't SAY he was expecting an Infinity. He just acted like it, having to repeatedly call *everything* cheap, in a cheap car. Cheap was part of the deal to begin with. Yup, as I said - comparing new and use cars IS comparing apples to oranges. Now, in that context (of comparing apples to oranges), you ask what other new cars one can find for $12K? What difference does that make, and what kind of sense does that question make? None? Some? Who cares? The question is irrelevant? Whatever. If some customers would rather buy a used car for this price, they're free to do so. Dinging the cheapest new car on the road today is completely irrelevant. Hell, Mitsubishi - somehow - manages to sell the 3-cylinder Mirage subcompact for MORE MONEY THAN THIS. Take your beef to a UA-cam review of that car, where it *might* make more sense, if you ignore this car.
When you consider that the competition is Mirage, Spark and Smart, this is a bargain. You get a more substantial car than any of those and more engine.
I am Split. The Spark has reliability issues (but also a base model can be bout under $9900).. it would be a nicer handling car. The Smart is kind of Dumb. Reliability issues, only marginally better or same fuel economy, no back seat, cannot Park it like in Europe (sideways on the street). The Mirage is getting excellent reliability ratings from the owners and over 45 MPG reported (sometimes over 50 MPG). It is better equipped, has more warranty, and available for the same $9995. I would need to drive a Versa to know for sure, but I can say I got a 5 speed Mirage on a test drive up to 50.9 MPG. Plus it had a great turning circle. If I needed more back seat room I know the Versa would be the best Bet. I can live without PW, PL, etc.
i just bought this car in charcoal grey yesterday, the ONLY thing that is only slightly annoying locking and unlocking the passenger doors manually (i have small children). i bought it for $8,000 out the door at a dealership, which comes up to ~$6.900 before fees, tags, taxes, ect. still i want you guys to know this is one of my best purchases ever simply because now i dont have a car loan! and its only got 10,100 miles on it :p
I’ve had one of these for three years, it’s perfect as long as you buy it for what it is. An extremely reliable, efficient, work car that you can own without having to worry about door dings. I love the damn thing, and it came with a 100,000k warranty.
Using your phone to light up where the key is? I've never owned a car with a lighted igniton area and have never ever had an issue matching the key to the ignition, even in the pitch dark. All those gimmicks are not necessary, sure they are nice but if you're looking for a point A to point B car it seems pretty good
My brother has a 2015 Versa with no bells or whistles. Only convenience the car has is A/C and Automatic Transmission. No power mirrors or locks or even windows. No cruise control nothing extra... but he likes his peace of mind of warranty and Nissan Reliability especially after bad experience of used cars in past
I own this car after owning a Cadillac. I feel I can do more stuff for my family and house now, it is simple, economy.. truly lacks power but compensate with cold A/C from Antarctica hills especially in hot summer
Collin Holbrook Statistically, younger people get in more accidents as well as dont make much money. No power options means less to break which means more money in their pocket. Also, with nothing like sensors or cameras, replacing, for example, a bumper on this Versa won't cost as much as replacing one on a Maxima.
NOLAItsNotOva although you are right on normal areas, trust me this is the ONLY car people should be driving in southern Texas people drive them like they stole them whether they be 60k bmw or a 2k pos, they need as cheap of replacement as they can get down here
NOLAItsNotOva oh lol yeah you understand completely only been there once and traffic was insane and just ugh lol. and yeah it is sad I have seen some pretty nasty accidents because of it only the clean up but you could tell how bad they where
I love this car. I love the plastic panels, because they will wipe clean easily. I love the crank windows, because ten years from now when I still own this car, they will still work. I loved the manual locks for the same reason. If you're someone who drives your car forever, then less 'bells and whistles' is actually kind of a plus. I already threw seat covers on to buy the upholstery as much time as possible. Granted, I wish I could get something like the Honda Accord, only with manual everything and plastic door panels. But, I don't see that happening anytime soon. I wish every car was offered in this 'barebones' trim. I looked at so many cars trying to find one with as many manual components as possible. Why? There's nothing sadder than a bunch of 'bells and whistles' that no longer work.
Perfect car, all a person needs or deserves is a basic piece of transportation, this is basic transportation, there is no need for anything more than that.
I just wanted to say thank you for the honest review. I've watched several reviewers who look way too enthusiastic to be entirely real and you did a great at showing the good and the bad with a reasonable level of objectivity (and humor). I'm still seriously considering buying one, but it is nice to see someone do more than a sales pitch and call it a review. Please be well! :)
I just bought one right off the lot brand new for 9,800 and I love it. It's fun little car to drive. Not much power compared to my weekend car but it's a great daily drier and great on gas!
I have a 2013 I bought new with 80000 miles on it. I'm 52 years old and just wanted a basic car that gets good fuel economy. I have the sv version and it really is quite nice for what it is! It has power locks, windows, and mirrors, automatic, AC, cruise, and a rear spoiler that makes it look a little sporty! The only things I've had to repair are the front bushings - made a creaking noise when going over bumps( under warranty), a new muffler (rusted out, live in Wisconsin with snow and salt), and a heat shield that rattled. The car is roomy, the trunk is big along with lots of rear seat room! I find the interior is kind of cheap but it's an inexpensive car to begin with. The speakers don't sound the greatest but there's four of them! I've had no transmission issues at all with the cvt! My only complaint is that while driving down the freeway the car does tend to get blown around more than any other car I've had. I don't know if it's because of the light weight of the car, the small tires, or aerodynamics, but it is hard to stay in the middle of your lane sometimes! The engine can also be loud at times. I feel it has enough power for me. Never had a problem passing or using on ramps to get on the highway! It's not a Corvette people! Would I buy one again? At my age and income level I could afford to spend more. I may have bought a civic or corolla but that would've been a lot more money if new! It's been a good car and if I go on longer trips or need more room or want a comfier ride, I use my other automobile!
Judging by the floor mats and tags, it looks like he may have gotten a dealership to let him review it. Maybe not, it just looks that way to me. Manufacturers usually give up the highest trim with most of the options selected.
I just bought the Versa S-Plus and I'm happy to save a couple thousand dollars on unnecessary frills like power door locks and power windows. I drive with the windows up most of the time anyway. Overall I'm really impressed with this car. The two tone plastic interior trim of the higher level models really looks worse than just the plain black interior. My only big complaint is the lack of a lock on the passenger side door. This is both a safety and convenience issue. If anything happens to the main lock, you wouldn't be able to get into this car and would have to break a window. Also, since there are no power windows or locks, you have to reach over to unlock the other side. Next, it makes no sense to me why Nissan bothers with two levels of AM/FM/CD radio. Bluetooth phone is standard but not bluetooth audio? How dumb is that? And who, in 2015, listens to CDs in the car? The target audience for this entry-level car is 25 years old. They don't even know what a CD is. I don't miss the adjustable headrests - who adjusts those? But I'm not convinced they save much money with seats that look like they stopped the upholstery at the liner. For my money, they could get the economies of scale up to offer a better product at a good price (and good margins) by offering 2 versions ... the SV (at the S-Plus price) and the SL without the fancy touch screen/GPS radio. Satellite radio needs to be standard on all radios: AM/FM/SAT. It's no longer a luxury item and the automakers get paid an incentive for every new sub, so why limit it to the 5% who buy the top model? That said, I thank Nissan for trying to make new cars somewhat affordable. I looked at used cars, but most had gone 3 years with no more maintenance than an oil change and were going to be a money pit for thousands of dollars in repairs.
How is it going? I have heard of some folks having transmission failures right around the end of warranty, complaining about thin paint and panels that bend/dent easily. Anything like this? I want to know real-world experience before dropping 10 grand on one of these.
I love this car and it runs as well today as the day I bought it. Most of the cars this guy loved in 2015 with the turbos and GDI, power everything and electronic gimmicks are half way to the crusher if not already there. Oh, and 42mpg because I drive it like the econobox that it is, not a high school kid winding it up to redline and whining about not having the gearbox throw of a Lamborghini. .
fanowner12 The tires also wear crazy if you drive it a lot on the highway. May neighbor had one and that is an issue with those cars. He was trying to drive it on the back roads about 50 miles a day to work. But the most stupid thing about the Smart fortwo to me was that it requires premium fuel. Even my Mustang GT runs on regular. lol However, he liked the car, cause he thought it was cute.
Bought this exact car and have had it for 2 weeks. Best little car I ever bought. With a manual it even has some pep to it. Mine has the touch radio though. Gotta have my Bluetooth tunes.
I like companies that make cheap ass cars for us poor people. At least now i can buy a new car with all the standard mandatory safety features and great fuel economy. But I like Nissan Micra over this, here in Canada it starts at 9,980$
I bought a 2014 brand new 5 spd for 11000 out the door special. It's got 120k mi and still drives great. Great on gas, 36mpg, no major maintenance yet (knocking on wood or keyboard), just changing oil, easy on my wallet.
Depending on what you value in a car. The Fiesta is going toward a more lux market and therefore costs 20% more. Those features are something that you have to consider if it is worth to you or not. Some people say yes and get the Fiesta or higher trim Versa. Some do not. Personal choice.
This is for people that MUST have a new car, no matter what. A used Corolla or Civic is a much more satisfying experience, especially after the new car smell is gone.
+Redline Reviews ..... "PURE Drive.... yeah because that's pretty much all it does!" - Brian Cooley. The lowest cost car is actually the Mitsubishi Mirage. That's because Mitsubishi gives generous cashback deals to make the retail price lower than MSRP. The 3rd cheapest car is Ford Fiesta..... that's the car I would choose out of these three . .
+Jon Cannon Really? Your dealer quoted you $9,200 for a new 2016 Nissan Versa S? Or a new 2015 Nissan Versa S that has only a couple hundred test-drive miles on it?
the fiesta has all of that stuff, minus the windows. and it has bluetooth for streaming and calls, a usb port, and a center console with armrest/storage.
My ex girlfriend's dad rented a Versa SL right after this body style came out and it was one of the WORST cars I've ever driven. When it gets to the point of driving a car that doesn't even have rear speakers or a trunk release I would just suck it up and buy a used civic or something.
Yes, thank you! Stick with used, reliable cars rather than spending the same amount on this "new" car. That way you get better features, and comparable reliability. In addition, you're keeping another car on the road which is better for the environment.
A friend of mine has a 2010 versa sl and it has trunk release, keyless entry, bluetooth handsfree, ipod dock . Everything except automatic head lights and back up camera... You sure you talking about the right trim?
Stevorn Richards Maybe if you paid attention to my comment you would realize 2012 is a completely different body style where Nissan took a below average car and made it even worse. The car overall has the build quality of a pepsi can and honestly even if it has nice features like keyless entry and iPod connections that still doesn't make it a good car at all.
Jakeman21642 i did pay attention to your comment. I never sat in a 2012 versa before so I'm not doubting you. I know in nissan's SL trims those are the luxury trims that's y i asked if it's the right "trim." It's just hard to believe that nissan would have trunk realease and most premium features in a 2010 model and not a 2012. The trunk release wasn't inside the car, it's outside near the tail light. A little black button.
All this puppy needs is 2 15 inch subwoofers in the trunk with a 5,000 watt amp.Ohh and a nice ebay cold air intake and a ebay axle back exhaust and finally a nice autozone hood scoop
I love this car I use this car everyday. I do have a mustang and a truck but for the most part I use this everyday as the mpg are the best. Yes there are things that are annoying but I rather have a new car
My mom just got a 2015 Nissan Versa SV with 27,000 miles one owner and she loves it and so do I very luxurious package on the SV we feel like it's a luxury vehicle
I have a 2012 Nissan versa S with the CVT ac and cruise I like the little car its great and I don't mind having crank windows any one that complains about not having power windows or power door locks needs to grow up and stop being lazy. it gets an average of 38 miles to gallon very reliable and does what it needs to do. if you want power and speed this is not the car for you.
Many can't afford or want all the bells and glitter. This Versa is still better than walking or riding a bus. Thanks Nissan.
Exactly. I just need to go from point A to point B. As long as it saves me gas and has A/C then I'm good. I have extra $$$ spend on other things....
Exactly!
to be honest you could use that $10,000 on a decent used car.
it has great MPG's too
Matteo with a used car=someone eles problems, usually out of warranty $$ for repairs, also the seats have been farted in hundreds of times...
I know everyone on here is hating on this car. But my brother in law sells Nissans and you'd be surprised how many people buy these base versas. If you're looking for something for your kid, or if you just want something cheap to get you from A to B it's perfect. These cars are Super reliable and if you're someone who's on a budget, let's face it a lot of us are, these Nissans aren't bad.
as soon as i bought mine i realized 3 other people had them at my workplace alone
Yeah, but ya notice how he says everything is 'cheap.' What did U expect for $11,900. For the Price U can't beat it. lol
p
It’s funny how people complain about having no money yet you can buy way better used cars with 12,000 dollars. This looks so plain and is rated as unsafe garbage.
i swear ppl acting up they way too picky about cars lmaooo
I am 21 and a college student and I just purchased this car. Say what you will, I LOVE IT. Who needs to roll down the windows when you have AC? And at 40mpg .i just simply can't complain. (:
Corolla better
+Jave Last men Corolla more expensive
Well you look look at a half empty glass completely full, kudos to you
BroadwayBaby You could get a nice semi used car for this price.
Corolla= $16,000. Versa S= $10,000.
As a member of the troubled working class I will be proud to have this as my first new car.
Hey, at least it has an AUX port 😉👌🏼
Who uses aux ports? I sure dont.
+buildmorefarms100 I don't give a fuck what you use
Tommy Siro Hahaha, you mad bro?
+buildmorefarms100 at you, NEVER 😊
Tommy Siro Then why are you swearing at me?
I just love my 2015 Versa S. I am getting 41 MPGS, it comfortable, and a pleasure to drive. I don't really care about all the fancy options it doesn't have.
Are you guys ever exceeding 42 mpg? Any idea what this might get under 57mph consistently?
Hows it been?
I'm totally buying this car, for all the reasons he said not to.
*****
I agree with you!
exactly...all the stuff this car doesn't have is all the crap that breaks on the ones that do lol
This car is a piece of crap just like all other Nissan cars
My sh*t Versa cost me $19,000 brand new and now 5 years later needs a new transmission that’s costing me 5 f***in gran!! WORST CAR EVER!!!!!
@@brendas9095 I do feel bad for you, but honestly do not buy a Nissan if you want a reliable automatic. Buy Manual or look somewhere else. Nissan has horrible automatic transmissions for awhile now.
@@brendas9095 the cvt ones are bad if you get another automatic transmission that would be ok
I bought a 2012 Versa sedan 1.6s new in 2012, six years later 153,000 miles, still going strong, this car has been inexpensive, reliable, best car for the money. thank you Nissan.
Any trans problems?
i prefer all plastic...easier to clean and more durable than fabric or leather sidings
Where and how, I want it.
Check out dealership websites in your area. Town North Nissan here in the Austin TX is advertising this car for $9988 on their website right now, so you wouldn't even have to haggle to get it down to that price if you find the right dealer.
Ravstafarian I checked my dealership it's already $9,999, holy crap I need to go asap and see how much they can drop it since I'll buy it cash.
EElectric_M autotrader is a good tool too, found one 75 miles away at 9000, or 8500 if you qualify for the recent college grad rebate. If there's nothing close by you can still get a cheap quote through email and see if your local dealer will match it.
The Spark is commonly advertised for under 10 grand too. If you want to compare the 2. Same with the Mirage in base form, I see them for $10,150.
(I even feel I could've got a very nice used car for the price I paid for my Mazda)
I just feel that people who choose to buys these cars shouldn't feel that have bought a piece of shit. It is their hard earned money.
2theRedline Please please do a review on the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage 5 speed you do the best reviews you into such detail Im looking at buying but really would love to see a review!!!
Norman Afif they are pretty popular over here in Japan.
Hopefully 2theRedline does a review for you
Bruno Danese To be brutally honest, this car really is the biggest piece of shit for what it is at a 12 grand price tag.
I would stick with a $1500 Beater for a first car (kid's bump into things too much).. but for a sensible car new? Any age... this one is a Win.
Hows it been? Considering a base myself.
But It may be the best new car you can buy for the money.
What the fuck, everyone's talking about how shitty this car is.... I just got it and I fucking love it. I dont know what everyone else's standards are, but I'm coming from a '98 Nissan Altima with 203,000 miles on it... So upgrading to this feels like a goddamn Bugatti to me lmao
u got nissan am happy 4 ya coz i got tiida as wl ciou
+PuppyUnicorn Idk, maybe cause these cars don't hold up well, even in the used car market. I can either get a 2012 Versa for the same price as a much older Civic (maybe an 08 or an 09). They're both economy cars except the Civic is bigger and (imo) looks much nicer.
ikr love it!😜
+PuppyUnicorn I just bought this car to replace a 2000 Honda Accord.
That's because
Mitsubishi gives generous cashback deals to make the retail price much, much lower
than MSRP
.
When you consider that this car will likely have the typically strong Nissan reliability, I think it's a really good value at $12k. At that price point, it would be unfair to criticize a lack of features, interior materials quality, etc. Great review.
I am pleased that you reviewed the S Basic model unlike other videos that have to have the highest trim level
I would never buy a used Merc. Not worth it, but an Altima over this, yes.
GrandpaChink money 10 years ago is not the same today. Just basic economics lol but i do know what you mean
"Everything is PLASTIC FANTASTIC!!"
i died there
I make $85K a year and I love my 2018 Versa S Plus I’ve gotten 52 miles to the gallon at 60 mph on flat interstate roads from Lubbock TX to Lamesa TX at 65 Mph I get 50.5 mpg at 70-75 mph I get around 40-45 mpg that’s with no wind driving it like an old lady.
I'm ok with a $12,000 new car
Just remember folks, a Yugo had an MSRP of $3990 in 1985. Adjusted for inflation, that is $8872. The Versa starts off at $11950 MSRP and if you buy through truecar.com (true car estimate) is around $10,300 in my area. So basically, adjusted for inflation with the understanding you're getting more features and creature comforts, this car is basically less expensive than a Yugo.
Nissan made it this cheap because they were able to trickle down technology they've perfected in the Maxima.
imzjustplayin okay, but, its 2018
There should be more cars at this level, this is the future. I should be able to buy a brand new car with $5,000.
I just picked up a 2017 Versa S in black w/5 speed and absolutely love the thing.
+alda J. Congrats on your new Versa!
congrats! only if these broke mfs would stop bitchin and be more positive like you. im looking to buy this car too
I pity you and your shitty car
Take care of it, maintain it, keep it til the wheels fall off and you bought a home. Be smart. Drive this car through getting a home and over 200k. Many people make the mistake of more debt for no reason.
Could have just bought a used car with less than 50k and MANY more features for less lol. Why people are scared of buying used cars dumbfounds me.
$5000 used Lexus is way better value. It’s run like new anyway
Call me crazy, but I think I'd prefer cruise control over steering wheel audio/bluetooth controls.
You and me both! The previous Gen Mazda 3 SV had steering wheel audio controls but no cruise!!!! -_____-
Some of these cars have the cruise control module in the steering wheel and all you have to do to get yourself cruise control is to swap the steering wheel with one that has it. Do some homework, but sometimes it works.
This could make a nice cheap car for Lyft and/or Uber!
TheKaisarwilhelm are you a Cowboys fan?
Yeah. Who isn't? They are America's team. I am more into college ball, but I'd consider myself a fan.
MTS Route 20 Fanner tru I used to use an altoma for uber pretty good nissan for that
My first new car was an '83 Nissan Sentra Base MSRP $4949.
Me too. My 1999 Saturn SL2 in Dallas has no power locks, power windows, power mirrors, power seats, but BY GOD it has A/C.
congratulations bro. how was your versa today?
Dumb people buy cars like this, u can get a MUCH better used car for the same price
Mike mukweem used with a warranty?
I know that this car is extremely basic (you get what you pay for), but you do get some bang for your buck. I like the fact that you reviewed this car, even though you're used to reviewing high-end makes and models. It's a good change of pace.
Manual windows don't break lol
challenge accepted!
For real though, I have never seen one break. I bought a used 2009 Chevy Impala six years old with two broken cheap Chinese power door locks.
@@TheKaisarwilhelm often the manual window stick will break
@@t-bone9239 Can confirm, never seen the mechanism break but have had to replace the handle in older vehicles
Where did he say they did?
Bought a 2016 thanks to your review... was looking at a new equinox... but a new equinox looses almost 20k after 5 years. Bought my versa new for just over 10k, I could literally drive my versa for 2.5 years, light it on fire, buy another versa and drive it for 2.5 years... push that one off a cliff.... and I still would be out the same amount of money as if I would have bought a new equinox. Thanks for reviewing modest cars.
I'm excited for next year when the 2015 Versa's are going to resale for $4k with low miles. I'm going to get one as my first car.
they sell for more like 8 grand.
You're right. they can only lose so much value at this point. The lower the cost of the new car, the higher the resale value (in general).
I don’t care if this car has no power window no keyless entry. IT’S A MANUAL! I will still buy this
This review is too harsh.
+David C Schlesinger
Nope, he didn't SAY he was expecting an Infinity.
This car saved my life during a head-on collision going 65mph. I'm looking to get another one soon
When you consider that the competition is Mirage, Spark and Smart, this is a bargain. You get a more substantial car than any of those and more engine.
+pedro fernandez Si!
But, the Mirage gets far better mpg, has pw, pl, auto climate ctrl, longer warranty, and a usb port.
And it's made for the third world.
pedro fernandez It is a global platform that is selling well world wide.
Hows it been? I am looking at a new one for 9 grand.
Still good in 2023...
I’ve had one of these for three years, it’s perfect as long as you buy it for what it is.
An extremely reliable, efficient, work car that you can own without having to worry about door dings.
I love the damn thing, and it came with a 100,000k warranty.
100k warranty?
Using your phone to light up where the key is? I've never owned a car with a lighted igniton area and have never ever had an issue matching the key to the ignition, even in the pitch dark. All those gimmicks are not necessary, sure they are nice but if you're looking for a point A to point B car it seems pretty good
he's saying because it doesn't have a light in the front. i don't know of any cars that don't have that other than this one.
I've never owned a car newer than a 2000, that's probably why... I guess it's nice but it's not really necessary
Neither have I. Weird to think finding the key hole would be such a difficulty.
Some people are just not good at finding holes in the dark.
mopar6800 💀
My brother has a 2015 Versa with no bells or whistles. Only convenience the car has is A/C and Automatic Transmission. No power mirrors or locks or even windows. No cruise control nothing extra... but he likes his peace of mind of warranty and Nissan Reliability especially after bad experience of used cars in past
Just make sure you maintain that CVT so it will last they are very problematic
I own this car after owning a Cadillac. I feel I can do more stuff for my family and house now, it is simple, economy.. truly lacks power but compensate with cold A/C from Antarctica hills especially in hot summer
I love this car. I really can't see what you're complaining about. Electronic steering, not power steering. It's no frills, but it's awesome.
I like it. It's simply and cheap. Good for young people
why just young people lol
Collin Holbrook Statistically, younger people get in more accidents as well as dont make much money. No power options means less to break which means more money in their pocket. Also, with nothing like sensors or cameras, replacing, for example, a bumper on this Versa won't cost as much as replacing one on a Maxima.
NOLAItsNotOva although you are right on normal areas, trust me this is the ONLY car people should be driving in southern Texas people drive them like they stole them whether they be 60k bmw or a 2k pos, they need as cheap of replacement as they can get down here
Collin Holbrook Oh believe me I know exactly what you mean. That's how people here in N ew Orleans drive. Its pretty sad actually.
NOLAItsNotOva oh lol yeah you understand completely only been there once and traffic was insane and just ugh lol. and yeah it is sad I have seen some pretty nasty accidents because of it only the clean up but you could tell how bad they where
Love my 2018 Versa with only 40k miles and is a manual too. Save me money with gas and blessed to have a vehicle to take me places.
$13k is really cheap. The last timr i saw a car that cheap was in the 80's
This isn't a society of needs. The USSR is far East and a few decades into the past from the location of this video
I'm amazed Nissan is bold enough to offer these things up for people to review.
Judging by the floor mats and tags, it looks like he may have gotten a dealership to let him review it. Maybe not, it just looks that way to me. Manufacturers usually give up the highest trim with most of the options selected.
Great review! This is actually a VERY refreshing video with the lack of technology and the 'back-to-basics' type car this is!
The glovebox falls cheaply? Like... Really? Come on now.....
I think I've opened the glove box in my truck twice since I've bought it. There is no point in criticizing a glove box.
I gave my daughter this car for her first car. It's not bad for teens, you know.
this is GREAT for a new driver! a high school/ college student would do just fine in this!
Good 2nd and/ or commuting 🚗
Just bought a 2020 SR and it’s a completely different creature
Please bring this car to India,it will sell like a hot cake.
The Engine Doesn't Sound Too Bad .
I love this car and it runs as well today as the day I bought it. Most of the cars this guy loved in 2015 with the turbos and GDI, power everything and electronic gimmicks are half way to the crusher if not already there.
Oh, and 42mpg because I drive it like the econobox that it is, not a high school kid winding it up to redline and whining about not having the gearbox throw of a Lamborghini. .
Great college car.
rezboy90 good college car, bad for getting pussy
NegativeTRIX well a girl shouldn't like you for what car you have. I don't even think most people are concerned about their spouses car.
@@ezeo.7315 she probably don't like it if any car are in such horrible condition
Thanks for reviewing the cheapest new car in America! Not enough people review the base models.
Much better value than a Smart forTwo!
agreed. bigger, better mileage, and you cannot flip it on its roof.
The Smart has no radio, no rear seat, not a lot of headroom, and it makes you feel claustrophobic.
or at least the base forTwo has no radio... and at that the radio is A/M-F/M only :(
fanowner12 The tires also wear crazy if you drive it a lot on the highway.
Yeah its a three cylinder 60hp motor, shouldn't require premium fuel. Honestly, it doesn't matter what you put in it, I'd put regular.
Bought this exact car and have had it for 2 weeks. Best little car I ever bought. With a manual it even has some pep to it. Mine has the touch radio though. Gotta have my Bluetooth tunes.
hey I'm looking at one of these with 67k miles to buy as my first car how has it went for you do you recommend it?
I like companies that make cheap ass cars for us poor people. At least now i can buy a new car with all the standard mandatory safety features and great fuel economy. But I like Nissan Micra over this, here in Canada it starts at 9,980$
I just got my Versa last year and I love it
So it finally has a tachometer.
This car is simple, straight forward and I love it. None of the extra bells and whistles which can break and need to be replaced/repaired.
Even though the interior is plan you can ALWAYS spurs it up with verious seat covers and interior decor. You can also purchase a custome gear shifter.
I bought a 2014 brand new 5 spd for 11000 out the door special. It's got 120k mi and still drives great. Great on gas, 36mpg, no major maintenance yet (knocking on wood or keyboard), just changing oil, easy on my wallet.
I have a 2015 Versa S manual. Mine does have a trunk release on floor next to driver seat.
this. this will become my first car
Did you get one?
get the fiesta! it's 10x better
Not going to find a 12k Civic or Corolla unless it has 50k miles on it. Japanese car quality is not where it was a decade ago either.
And this thing is NOT 12K when you add all the crap dealers make you pay. for
pedrof830 What crap? Sales tax? Yea, let's turn this into a discussion for tax evasion.
pedrof830 you can finance directly with nissan... much cheaper than going through a dealer and your bank
oldtwins
No not tax, dealer prep, dealer paperwork handling, tank of gas, wax and undercoating.
2018.5 model now has 7" touch screen radio and a rearview camera.
This was hilarious, thanks Sofyan.
Glad you enjoyed it, I didn't think it was THAT funny now ;)

***** The prob w/power windows is they never STOP where you want them to, aye Dopey? lol
The 3rd cheapest car is Ford Fiesta..... that's the car I would choose out of these three
. .
+electrictroy2010 Can you get a Mirage for under $9200 right now? That's what I was quoted for a new Versa S.
+Jon Cannon Really? Your dealer quoted you $9,200 for a new 2016 Nissan Versa S? Or a new 2015 Nissan Versa S that has only a couple hundred test-drive miles on it?
clicks on video about a nissan
gets an ad about acuras
If the versa s had adjustable headrests, power windows, locks, mirrors and keyless entry. I'll buy it in a heartbeat.
123chunhou It DOES on the higher Trim Levels, aye Dopey? lol
the fiesta has all of that stuff, minus the windows. and it has bluetooth for streaming and calls, a usb port, and a center console with armrest/storage.
MONEY
Kinda reminds me of my first car - an '86 Honda Accord. Makes me wanna get one of these!
Bati Tsogtsaikhan Yeah these are the cars that make you hate your life. I call them Cubiclemobiles.
My mom said she's getting me this car for my second year at high school
I love this car I use this car everyday. I do have a mustang and a truck but for the most part I use this everyday as the mpg are the best. Yes there are things that are annoying but I rather have a new car
I drive this car daily and its actually kind of fun
How’s it been?
How its been
Update?
@@deljean still running pretty good. no issues at all.
@@djkenny1202 great!
My mom just got a 2015 Nissan Versa SV with 27,000 miles one owner and she loves it and so do I very luxurious package on the SV we feel like it's a luxury vehicle
I feel like he's describing my 1990 Corolla
I must say, this engine sounds pretty good. Not what I was expecting.
I have a 2012 Nissan versa S with the CVT ac and cruise I like the little car its great and I don't mind having crank windows any one that complains about not having power windows or power door locks needs to grow up and stop being lazy. it gets an average of 38 miles to gallon very reliable and does what it needs to do. if you want power and speed this is not the car for you.
how is it?
89000 miles still running good no issues have been doing oil changes every 3k a few bulbs here and there but no issues.
Can you get higher MPG on the freeway than 38 mpg? By keeping under 65 mph?
Hows it been?
hows your cvt and any issues?
Can't believe u made this review all I can say is loooooooool
Ps love your vids keep up the good work .
Gettting this car for work 😊
Thanks for the video !! But why complain it's a new car? It drives and has everything it needs lol ... I'd be so lucky to have this car
This car is actually really funnny, especially when sofyan reviews it. i died laughing over and over.
how is the car funny cus I see nothin funny all I see is driveing
I liked his review.
the only reason I watch reviews of cheap cars like this is because it makes me feel good when I see my Mercedes in my garage.
Mine has an inside trunk release. It's the same model as this one. Oh joy.
They all have inside trunk release he just never noticed it.
@@markm0000 dude needs a light to find the key hole, pretty sure he needs a neon sign to locate the trunk release lever.
@@markm0000 nah not the one i just recently looked at
fair review..... I would say the versa trim level is built for temporary ride and reliability in mind, not luxurious features, so what does great car.
