    Once I was satisfied with my research and made the decision to buy, I narrowed down my choices to the Honda Fit and the Nissan Versa Note. In the end, I bought the 2015 Nissan Versa. However, it was not the Versa Note. I bought the sedan version. It is the SL trim.
    This is a great buy. After test-driving both the Note and the sedan versions of the Versa, I chose the sedan. In my opinion, It has less road noise and it seemed a bit more comfortable. At 5'11" and 233 lb, I find both the front and rear of the vehicle comfortable. One of the main reasons I did not buy the Honda Fit, in spite of it's versatility and glowing reviews, was the rather uncomfortable driver seat. While it has plenty of leg room for the back passengers, the front seats do not travel far back enough for me, making me feel somewhat cramped, even with the driver seat pushed all the way back. The Versa does not have this problem. After pushing the driver seat all the way back, I went to check out the amount of leg room for a rear passenger my size. It still had sufficient leg room to make me sit comfortably in the back. Now, this is huge for me. Matter of fact, the rear seat in the Versa sedan is more comfortable than the one in the Nissan Sentra. As far as I am concerned, the Versa, as well as many other sedans that are regarded as 5-passenger vehicles, is a 4-passenger car, not 5.
    Besides pricing, rear leg room is one of the main reasons why I did not consider such sub-compact cars as the Ford Fiesta, the Chevy Sonic, the Toyota Yaris, the Mini Cooper, the Fiat 500C Cabrio, the Kia Rio, the Hyundai Accent, and the Scion iQ.
    Trunk space is plenty in the Versa. You can fold down the rear seats even to further increase trunk space.
    Because I have the SL trim, I have a navigation system (which I really do not care about as I love those aftermarket Garmin navigation systems), a rear view camera, and of course cruise control. There are lower trims of the Versa that do not have cruise control (and this is a shame - it should have been standard for all trims). Yes, cruise control is a must-have for me. I absolutely cannot buy a car in this day and age without cruise control. Matter of fact, in 2015, I believe a rear view camera, Bluetooth, and cruise control should be standard for all vehicles, no matter how cheap.
    The Versa is simple, but well made. It does not have automatic headlights (you have to turn the headlights on and off every time); the visor is short and inadequate; there is no dual climate zones; seat adjustment is all manual; there is no center console to store things (and given its size, this is a good thing as the console would have eaten up space and made the front tighter). But I can manage with these shortcomings.
    The radio is very good. I really like the way the Bluetooth works. As long as I have Bluetooth on on my phone, the radio can automatically reactivate music from my phone after turning the car off and on. I can see what I'm playing on my phone on the car's touchscreen monitor.
    I've read that this car does not have a lot of power and that it is slow. Really! Power to do what and slow in comparison to what? It has plenty of power to drive the vehicle and at whatever speed you want to go. The speedometer maximum speed is 140 m/h. The engine has plenty of power to drive you this fast (of course, you don't wanna do this) for as long as you want. It accelerates just fine. It drives like any decent, modern car as far as I am concerned.
    Nissan has shown that it can make a decent and affordable car that is able to take people from point A to point B with the comfort and convenience you find in more expensive cars. I know a little bit about interior care space, convenience, and comfort. I've owned a 2009 Chrysler 300C (with a 5.7 liter hemi engine, fully loaded); In 2012, I bought the 2012 Hyundai Sonata (the Limited trim, fully loaded) for my wife; and I have a 2014 GMC Savana conversion van. This 2015 Nissan Versa sedan is my first Nissan and my first small car. It rides and drives well. It is comfortable. The features in the SL trim are quite adequate for what I need in a care for my daily commute. As far as fuel economy goes... you already know about that. I love this car.

    This is a great car, I just got one with about 50,000 miles and it still rides like a new car. Very comfortable and mine's the S model 5 speed so it has a bit more power than the automatic one. It comes with a/c so I don't worry about not having power windows, the only thing that annoys me is that it doesn't have power door locks. I'm thinking about getting me another one just so I can give it to my son who's about to start college soon. It's a basic car, nothing fancy but it does the work of taking me from point A to point B and that's all it matters to me. It's a great purchase for it's money, I do recommend this car for people who just can't afford the $50 thousand dollars car or $600 dollar monthly car payment.

    Thanks for posting. I have a 2012 Nissan Versa bought it new and I love it. It's a great car for the money. The car magazines tore it up. I don't know what they expect out the door with extended warrantee for $15,000. Very reliable I've gotten better mileage than the window sticker said. I love it. Don't kid yourselves the truly rich person drives these kind of cars. The ones putting on a show and in hock over their heads drive the expensive vehicles.

      CVT very well might be better that's not the issue I've driven several cars never had transmission issues until CVT versa went 350k with auto Toyota but CVT blew at 110 that's not quality thats a money grab they are designed to fail. What good is all the benefits if it doesn't last long such a dumb argument they should design it properly than put it in new cars

    2019 Versa has a nice touch screen head unit that has been standard since 2018.5 (due to backup cameras being required by May of 2018, not by model year) and even has adjustable headrests on the S model. You now have to get a S plus if you want a cheap basic versa without a manual as the 4 speed S model is gone and replaced with a S Plus with CVT.

  • @neuideas

    The Bad: Minimal sound dampening, so road noise, transmission noise, engine noise, exhaust noise, and wind noise penetrate the cabin. The car gets very twitchy when driven near the limit (on tighter curves, for example), rather than simply understeering. It gets pushed around by the wind, moreso than most cars. On the manual car, the shifter is made of very cheap-feeling plastic. The gas tank is a bit on the small side, so range suffers a bit, getting 400 miles or less on a full tank.
    The Good: Side view mirrors are amazing. You can see pretty much everything along the sides of the car. Interior visibility is excellent as well. The car is easy to drive. In the manual version, shifts are smooth and solid. The car has great leg room, and the trunk is very large for a subcompact. Power side view mirrors make adjustments a snap. Fuel economy is pretty good. The car is a great value, being the least expensive subcompact you can buy. If you can get it at a discount, so much the better.
    The car is fine as long as it isn't driven near its limits, and you can put up with the noise and the cheap shifter materials. Relatively short range between fill-ups may be a deal-breaker for some.

  • @Jakeman21642
    @Jakeman21642 9 років тому +7

    Its a good car for sure and the sales numbers show that. I understand how some people want a warranty or just want a new car but I don't really get why you would buy this when you can get a pretty nicely loaded used Accord, Camry or other car for the same price and have a overall better car with a still pretty good warranty.

    • @pedrothevenard
      @pedrothevenard 9 років тому +11

      People trust new cars, they just don't trust previous owners, that's why many will buy a new barebone car over a loaded used car, especially people that don't even know how to change a tire, they will always think that a new car won't show problems for the first 5 or so years, leading them to buy new over a used car even a 3 or 4 years old low mileage car is still a gamble of you don't understand anything about cars.

    • @1guyin10
      @1guyin10 9 років тому +1

      That is actually part of the point of this car and is something Renault-Nissan has had great success with doing both with the Versa and its European sibling - the Dacia/Renault Logan. They are pegged in the market as an alternative to a used car and it obviously works because they sell nearly every one they can make of both vehicles.

    • @USACA100
      @USACA100 9 років тому +5

      arash behi Some people don't trust used cars, you never know what the previous owner did to their car. Pretty soon you're going to be spending thousands of dollars fixing the damn car when you could have bought a new car that would last a lot longer with a lot less trouble. Also the base model Versa is pretty crappy in the inside but the SV is a lot better looking and all versas drive really well.

    • @owngallardo
      @owngallardo 9 років тому +3

      USACA100 Honestly I cant argue with that. The fact that its got 0 miles on it is hard to beat.

  • @neuideas
    @neuideas 8 років тому +1

    The perks of having a manual transmission include: better speed control, lower brake wear, very low maintenance (assuming the car is driven skillfully), and bragging rights for having learned and possibly mastered driving with a clutch pedal. It's a shame the manual is only available in the base S trim, though. With only one entry keyhole (driver's door only), this car would benefit from either a second keyhole, or remote power door locks, neither of which is an option for the S.
    I'm not a fan of CVT, primarily because I'm not a fan of automatics in general. If an automatic provided the level of control possible with a manual (without having to resort to using the brakes every time), along with the absurdly low maintenance required of a manual (I got more than 15 years and 180,000 miles on a factory clutch and transmission, with no signs of imminent failure, and spent literally $0 maintaining it -- the car developed other problems forcing me to replace it), I'd consider switching my allegiance.

    I have the 2015 Versa sedan SV. I really like it. It doesn't feel cheap unlike the base model. This car is also very affordable, runs well, good acceleration, quiet once you don't accelerate (even when you do accelerate its not that loud). Its an all around good car and I don't fell vulnerable unlike driving a tiny sub compact like the mirage or the spark.

    In its lower trim levels the Versa makes a lot of sense for those who are just looking for transportation. They are not pretty, not exciting and certainly not the best car in the segment. They are, however, quite functional. At the higher trim levels they make less sense as they reach prices that will get you into any number of compacts or even a base Altima or Fusion if you shop around a bit.

      Thank you for the extra bit of clarity on this subject. It seems to me that the "blown in the wind issue " gets exaggerated or added to other reported faults with the car whenever someone is on a hate roll of some kind with the Nissan Versa sedan. This car weighs the same as the Toyota Yaris iA...so it's got some company in the light car category. The Yaris 2&4 doors must both weigh at least as light as this car. Light is necessary to get the gas mileage. Thanks again!

    Does the CVT fail after, say, 40,000 miles like they do on some Nissan models?

  • @Kev50027
    @Kev50027 9 років тому +3

    Nissans in recent years have had poor reliability. Also, CVTs are NOT the fastest transmissions. That's most likely due to their weight and parasitic losses. If CVTs were the fastest transmissions for small displacement engines, companies like BMW would use them on their low power European models. 7 and 8 speed automatics have gotten much better than CVTs, but they cost more, which is why Nissan didn't use one.

He's 350 pounds, about 6 feet tall. The car went to my mom when he got a new one, then to my sister, then to me. 230,000 miles later, still runs as good as the day we bought it and can usually squeeze 400 miles out of 1 tank of gas.

    S seems a good value at $12,850 , or just go entry level. As long as you keep a car like this below 13 grand, they are worth while. Once you add the 2 grand just to get power windows and locks? Nope. (add ones with an alarm later, you can Live with manual windows.. less to wrong as well). It"would" be nice to order Cruise on a Base model or S.
    But the high end model at over $18,500? I would look at classes higher end with few or no additional options. A base Subaru will be about that much and have much more to offer.

    I don’t recommend the cvt, Nissans are not bad cars but the cvt is an overall bad design, unreliable and very expensive. I’m not a hater, I love the versa And other models just be careful when buying a used Nissan due to bad transmissions. If Nissan would spend more time fixing its issues than great but they don’t so stick to low miles or recently swapped ones. The versa ones are around 1,500-2,000$ just for the transmission but other models can range from 2,000-3,500$ not including labor costs.

    I thought I liked the Nissan Versa Note (same car but hatchback) until I saw the Sedan. The Sedan simply looks bigger => more substantial than the Note or the Honda Fit or Yaris. THE "killer feature" of the Sedan is clearly the legroom in the back seat coupled with a huge trunk.

    This car was developed with the idea of being a cheap car. It is likely to be based on the platform of the Dacia / Renault Logan and Lada Largus and Nissan Tiida, or at least borrows most of its components from them. An order to provide a relatively inexpensive and reliable transportation from point A to point B. And practice has all the basics we need to move. Nothing more.

    No thanks, Ill stick with my Mitsubishi Mirage. At least I know my Jatco CVT7 wont crap out due to superior Mitsu design technique of adding two clutches and a reverse clutch to lessen the load on the CVT7 hence more reliability. Call any transmission shop and ask them how many Nissan cvt they work on vs Mitsubishi.

    I drove the 2015 Nissian Versa SV rented from Hertz. I drove it through Texas Arizona and New Mexico. I can rate it with good gas mileage and very poor handling in wind. This car was scary at the 75mph speed limit in high winds. Following diesel trucks at Texas speed limits caused the front end to shake and wander. I would expect that from a mini van and not a low profile car. If you want a good gas mileage car for in town it will be great. But as a highway vehicle it sucks balls. I am sure it will have a bunch of solo crashes due to weather and high wind conditions. I will never buy one.

    • @SM77785
      @SM77785 4 роки тому +1

      That's because it is extremely light for it's size. But the lower weight helps the gas mileage. You just have to slow down a little bit, it's not a sports car.

  • @gene978
    @gene978 9 років тому +1

    SO, if you're about to drop almost 19K on a Versa you might SERIOUSLY CONSIDER buying a a 1 or 2 year old REALLY LOW mileage Midsize car. You will be MUCH HAPPIER unless you really NEED a small car. Some Midsize cars get very decent MPG like BIG BROTHER ALTIMA Best in Class. 27 CITY/ 38 HWY.

    • @oldtwins

      Until you realize that 1-2 year old car with low mileage was traded in because of quality problems that the dealership couldn't repair so the owner got tired of it and made it become someone else's problem.

    TAKE CARE OF YOUR CVT TRANSMISSION! OEM FLUID CHANGES AT 30K MILES BE DILIGENT ON THIS. AND NO UNIVERSAL CVT FLUID, IT WILL RUIN THE CVT. JATCO CVT7 TRANSMISSIONS REQUIRE SOLID MAINTENANCE. DO THIS AND YOUR RIDE CAN HIT 175K+ MILES TROUBLE FREE. BULLET PROOF, SIMPLE ENGINE, WITH TIMING CHAIN. FULL SYNTHETIC OIL ONLY EVERY 7500 MILES. peace.

Nice dash and console style FOR this price. Need to smooth out a few of those BUTT-UGLY exterior lines, and you'd really have a decent economy ride. Killer mileage, Great value.

      Pros and Cons to both. I think the Mirage might be better long term. Hold up better. Better warranty too. The Versa is roomier and has more pep. Mirage is standard with power windows and locks, which is really nice. Both are good. Just go basic, and keep it under 10 grand out the door.

    • @kylemas2005
      @kylemas2005 5 років тому +1

      Dude Mirage by far. Mitsubishi reprogrammed the jatco cvt7 and light years ahead of Nissan in reliability. Mirage might be ugly, lack power, refinement, and less comfortable than a Versa but in terms of hitting 175k miles, go Mirage. Mitsubishi put the money in amenities but on a quality, light aluminium, chained driven engine. Also a Mirage weighs 2100lbs. Much less than a Versa. Meaning less stress on the CVT.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 5 років тому

      I agree. I ended up with a 3 year old Scion XB with 30k. It was same price as a new base Mirage at $10 grand. But I would have been perfectly happy with the Mirage had this not been an option for me. I like those little cars a lot! The Versa just feels really poor quality comparably.

      @@djkenny1202 I looked at Scions, great Toyota brand. Too bad Toyota cancelled that division. My concern was Scion parts getting expensive after a few years. Mirage is a fancy go kart, scary as hell with the body rolling but once you get used to it its fun. Does great on the hwy, just gotta drive it slow, pick your battles on passing.

    It looks bad. There's a certain cheapskate image to it. Even 08' Tiida looks better than this. CVT in Nissan cars us usually dreadful, no progress in terms of driving sensation, also requires oil change quite often that isn't cheap for a budget car.
