For someone who can only grow hardy frost tolerant Gardenias living in the North of England, Britain, this is by far the most informative and useful advice on handling the care of these tricky plants I’ve found yet. Many thanks for this information.
Can't seem to find the G&B organics acid mix and I REALLY need to get my soil PH down in my potted Gardenias. I bought them from Home Depot, and the soil is at 7, not the 5.5 to 6 that it needs. They had one or two all yellow leaves when I got them, and now they have a LOT of yellow leaves, even though I have tried treating it with chelated iron, even a foliar treatment, and acid loving plants plant food with chelated minerals. Now I am starting to wonder whether the plants had root damage when I bought them, preventing them from taking up nutrients. The soil does not smell sour, and I don't see "mushy" roots, but though they do have some white roots, most of the roots are brown and thin looking, and in one pot the lower roots look like they are falling apart, to the point where the soil just fell right off the bottom of the root ball when I took it out to check. This is driving me nuts. I am going to treat the soil and roots with hydrogen peroxide solution as I was shown to get rid of any potential fungi, and then try repotting, but I really need a soil that has slight acidity and am having a heck of a time finding anything like that. I can't believe they sell these in soil that is at 7PH!
I have a 4 ft high potted gardenia outside. When I bought it and it was beautiful and blooming. I re potted it and it lost all it's buds and half the leaves even though I followed the Armstrong Nursery's instructions and soil mix into a larger pot, it lost half it's leaves and all the buds. It is outside and watered 2-3 times a week it is not flourishing. Now we are going into summer, what would you suggest as far as feeding and watering going forward? It is in a partially shades area in the morning and fully shaded in the afternoon. Thank you for your time in answering!
Thanks for your tips I have my plant inside most of the times because I live in b.c Canada so far I was not good at this plant I love them tried so many times but I don’t know what is the problem?
Hi I’m in bc Canada also, I have 4 hardy types of gardenia and am trying to see if they will survive the winter if I mulch and wrap them with cloth? I’m also going to try to bring one in for the winter. I have kliems hardy, crown jewel, frost proof and summer snow
Update, none of them really did well, my only survivors are the frostproof and kliems but they died down to the roots, definitely keep them in pots, move them in a garage during winter, only water them when they get very dry, they love fertilizer in spring, I only get blooms in August, I’m trying a tropical grafted tree right now, so far it’s been doing well but I haven’t gotten much buds opening. Keep them dry undercover and be their water source, keep the soil acidic also
My Gardenia is behaving exactly as yours! I started using acidic water for it exclusively and it helped out a lot. 1 part white vinegar to 10 parts water. As for over or under watering, that depends on your soil and how well it drains. Check your soil pH as well. Gardenias like to be in between 5 to 6 which is more acidic than a typical "garden variety" potting soil provides. I learned that the hard way and nearly killed my plant when I did the first re potting. I hope that this might help you! I am learning as I go and all of the above information I learned a year ago.
What is the cultivar name of the first gardenia you spoke about? Don’t think you mentioned the name but said it was the florist gardenia and your favorite. Thanks.
I am in Las Vegas zone 9; I bought a tree which is like a stick kind of tree and branches are on the top, I bought it a few days ago, didn't over water or let it dry but the leaves are yellowing, please HELP HELP HELP

This video should have more likes. I’d rather take advice from a horticulturist than some rando in their backyard!
It’s been a month, the two buds on my gardenia have not opened, are they going to open, will the plant get more buds, what is going on?
Amazing very good arrangement madam greetings success always...❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I loved this video. Are of Monrovia Gardenias grafted? Thx
Thanks for the tip on the iron!

Where can I order a few
First Love Gardenia plants? Thanks
Some of my gardenia leaves are yellowing but they did produce a few buds. Am I overwatering?? Or should I be worried about something else??

Thank you!
