This was a great video, lots of information to help me grow my Gardenia in Texas. I bought two from Lowe and they are now 9 months old and made it through the texas crazy winter ups and downs season. I left mine outside my back patio and almost forgot about them but they are thriving.

Wow great. In Texas you don't have to worry too much prune the center branches if it gets too cluttered you want air to freely move around the plant and water and fertilize

Believe me when I say I rarely give comment but this time I will-- Because you don't have any idea how helpful, practical, and straight forward this tutorial video is to me and my wife. We just planted Gardenia, Cananga odorata, Magnolia x alba, Murraya paniculata. Yet, we lack the knowledge to make them grow bigger and healthier. Thus, we searched a lot of videos but mostly are theoretical without any actual practice, but yours are what we've been looking for these past few weeks! Please do make more tutorial videos on how to maintain any other plants (Preferably those fragrant plants). Warm hugs from Indonesia.

Greatest video on gardenias. Just blindly purchased the smaller versions (3 Jubilation and 3 Scent-Amazing) from Home Depot. I have each in a container that's out in the direct hot hot west sun from about 2pm-7pm in zone 8a/b on the patio. Hope they survive. Your detailed instructions were greatly needed and appreciated. Well my friend, if your Gardenia shows yellow leaves, jagged edges or black holes, than the cause of this issue generally is a lack of nutrients.
Make sure you're using a quality slow release chemical fertilzer, like Osmocote 14/14/14, that comes with all micros. Once they are well feeded, gardênias rarely develop yellow leaves.

    • @EzekielsCall
      @EzekielsCall Рік тому

Gardenias actually develop yellow leaves not long before they flower. Also the PH is super important, because if it's not at the right acidity , it can't absorb the nutrients.
I am having to use one with chelated minerals in it now because the place I got it from did not maintain the acidity in the potting soil. I hope this helps it, because it doesn't
seem to be working at the moment, (it might have root rot too!) and I can't get the soil to stay at the right PH, even using aluminum sulfate - it corrected it, but a week later the PH was back to 7!

    Your Gardenias look amazing!
Nitrogen deficiency is what I was told by a professional, that when the leaf is all yellow like that it's nitrogen deficiency.
They say that if it has green veins and the rest yellow, it's iron deficiency. But I am having a heck of a time trying
to keep my soil acidic.. I bought them at Home Depot and the soil was already neutral and it had a couple all yellow
leaves - but after I brought it home, it got even more all yellow leaves! I have treated the PH issue, but it's not staying
stable... which is the biggest reason probably for the iron deficiency, because it can't take up enough iron if the PH isn't right,
unless you use a chelated iron.. Well I bought a acid type plant food that has chelated nutrients and I fed the plants...
and then they developed even more yellow leaves!
Anyway without going into everything, it may have root issues. I hope not, and I gave it the chelated mineral plant food because
it CAN absorb that even with the soil at the wrong PH. BUT the plant food I gave it does not have magnesium, and that
can also turn the leaves yellow. I still have a lot of research to do.. but can you tell me how you managed to keep the soil
at the right PH when you had to repot it? Because it seems most potting soil, even those that claim they are for acid loving
plants, are a neutral PH aroudn 7 which is not good for Gardenias. I would really like to hear what you do for it when you repot
so that the soil PH stays between 5.5 and 6,. or if you are not correcting the PH, what you are doing that your Gardenias look so
healthy and have so few yellow leaves.
Also... can you specify how you know how much water to give them when you do water them? I have it in a soil that seems well
draining enough, but now I am considering repotting in an alleged cactus mix, but if you put too much water even a well draining
soil (the cactus blend) seems to still get soggy (I tested it in my sink) So how do you water it? How do you know when you have
given it enough water? Are you using rain water? Or just relying on the acidic plant foods with chelated minerals to make sure it
can absorb the iron and other nutrients it needs?
Any insight you can give is realy appreciated.

I buy and care for plant to enjoy and relief stress.
Make it easy for yourself .
Remove yellow leaves All The Time
Prune so the plant allows more air flow through it you want to he able to see the other side while looking through the plant
      Water with regular tap water
Water every 4 days if indoor
If outdoor water more frequently if no rain
Only water when the soil is nearly dry to touch
Fertilize with miracle grow once every 3 month if indoor

    • @EzekielsCall
      @EzekielsCall Рік тому

I think the all yellow leaves were because it rained after I watered, and they got too wet and it flushed nitrogen out of the soil. The tree form gardenias are struggling (they also got spider mites and sadly I sprayed with insecticidal soap and they did not like that. If I knew I could just spray the mites off with water I woukd have just done that but I disn’t know). But the gardenia bush I have looks great , so I suspect its just been the unfortunate overwatering and the wrong PH. Using the acid loving miracle grow with chelated minerals seems to be helping the bush, while I wait for the sulfur I added to correct the PH of the soil

There are different variety of Gardenias . the ones I have seen for sale at Home Depot are short and have lots of flower on them . If you have not done so , when you buy a Gardenias from a store , I suggest repotting it in a bigger pot , with good potting soil , prune the branches so AIR can get in and around the plant , you don't want the plants branches and leaves too bunched up Watch my other video regarding the pruning and Spraying . Prune the center branches so you can see through the plant . Water once every 4 days half gallon per 10 gallon pot. make sure your pot has a drain hole at the bottom .

If it is a young plant you should water during the summer twice a week keep checking the leaves if they wilted water a bit more I guess being close to ocean you are in sandy soil which is good. Once a every 3 to 4 weeks give it some plant food miracle grow. Good luck thanx for watching

Add 1 tablespoon of WHITE vinegar to 1 gallon of water. That should do the trick! For years I would buy a gardenia and have the same thing happen. The water just needs to be a bit more acidic. I learned this on google. My gardenia tree has been doing great. Very few yellow leaves and like this guy says I just pull them off.

I’m afraid it’s the size of your plant Reza! If roots are uneasy you’ll begin to see awkward things such as deformation or constant yellowing. It also prefers partal shade no direct sunlight. As for the powdery substance I think you referred to mildew. It happens if your plant is exposed to constant wet days or you probably wash it sometimes! Allowing air flow in like you mentioned is number one fix for it not happening again but again.. the main reason it happens is too much humidity for mildew is a fungal plant disease. You can throw a plastic bag if branches can not be helped so they wouldn’t catch raindrops (flowers by the way should never be touched by water at all it will cause them to brown easily and turn ugly) then as soon as rain stops uncover and allow air to dry it. Pruning to allow air flow in is a good idea! I’m actually amazed how you still had it going all those years with all the picking and cutting you seem to enjoy practising on the sweet Gardenia! It’s so forgiving.😄 It realises you mean well! It is dificult for Gardenia to survive a wet environment but not impossible so .. Bravooo!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I've noticed that gardenias are super sensitive to changing position, repotting etc. Maybe it's best to get one in winter when its dormant and then when you find the right spot for it, try to make it its permanent spot rather than moving the plant around. Goodluck.
