The Tsukihime manga is a great starting point for people who are trying to get into the world of Tsukihime ( or even Typemoon in general, I dare say). It's a great story and the dynamic between Arcueid and Shiki is just beautiful. And even though I was reading the FSN - Fate route manga simultaneously (after watching Carnival Phantasm blind) with it, I can say with certainty that this manga is what got me genuinely interested in and eventually chained to the greater TM universe. I absolutely love Tsukihime. Thanks for covering it. Sadly not a lot of people talk about it here on UA-cam.

I found that to be so wholesome when I first read read that. Sasaki did an amazing job with his adaptation and was glad to to see it get such high praise by Nasu himself. I haven't read the remake yet (plan to in a few weeks) but I hope he took some inspiration and fixed up the Arcueid route so it could be just as good as the manga made it out to be. Really wish to see more of Sasaki Shounen's work in the future!

With all of the hype of the Tsukihime remake finally being given an release window, I definitely hope it brings some attention to the manga. The Tsukihime manga was one of the best i've ever read along with G.T.O: Great Teacher Onizuka and Street Fighter RYU FINAL especially given it's pacing, development and character, even though like other adaptations, it didn't too much into the Far Side routes, but it made up for it with Arcueid and Shikis reunion at the end of the manga, and it pretty much reinforced why I consider Arcueid and Shiki to be one of the best couples ever.
It was a great experience and how it tied every route together in some way was perfect. Even if it did leave out things for certain characters, it's much better to have a main focus point than be a jumbled, incoherent story. I think this is one of the best ways to adapt a visual novel, especially one that relies on learning about characters through separate routes.
@@NeNeiSan It's not good for fans of other girls tho who wants to see shiki end up with someone different hence I believe ask routes should be adapted with more extra elements in a way that no fans feel betrayed
As a last clarification, the manga ending is a combination of outcomes of the story of tsukihime. True end where arc leaves because shes afraid of losing control and hurting shiki, good end where she ends up staying with shiki, and the concepts from prototype tsukihime 2 " talk and prelude" where shikis eyes become too powerful so he must seal them away by using special bandages Rider style. Then he and Arc go around the world together defeating the rest of the dead apostles to find a cure for Arcs blood lust as a true ancestor. Nasu liked the manga ending so much he wrote a 2 paragraph afterword in the japanese retail volume 10 about how it surpasses his own tsukihime in many ways and how much he appreciatd shounens adaption. Very unusual but totally deserved.
@@arowmorth Hopefully we get something like that once Nasu stops working on FGO, but if what they said about the LB being halfway done, then that still a couple years down the line. Unless he is working on side projects he hasn't revealed.
I just wanna say as a casual fan who admittedly only really knows Tsukihime mostly through the manga, it's completely fine if you like the anime, or if you don't like it. While I've never watched the anime, and it's probably as bad as people say it is, that doesn't stop YOU from liking or making your own experience with it. That being said, Tsukihime manga is GOATED and you should check it out.
But yeah, if whoever stumbles upon this, i double NeiNeiSan and many other TM fans recommendation on reading the Tsukihime Manga in any case, since there is both Creative and In-lore value related reasons to do that. I only hope we get more content from Sasaki-sensei in the future.
I would say at least FSN 06 had some charm to it. It was at least entertaining for me. This adaptation however, didn't have anything I could find good about it, except it's OST.
I would say difference is that Deen stay night was flawed but still enjoyable despite its adaption failures. Tsukihime 03 literally does not represent the source material and is a bad series on its own.
if there is one thing I will never shit on the anime adaptation is the OST. The Justice track you mentioned is great. Your channel was a nice find, keep it up!
More power to you! I personally was wishing a bit more from it, but it did have a very nice atmosphere with some of the art and music. Nice to see it's not completely hated on.
Meet new Tsukihime Remake seiyuu cast: Ryousuke Kanemoto - Shiki Tohno Ikumi Hasegawa - Arcueid Brunestud Kaede Hondo - Ciel Shino Shimoji - Akiha Tohno Kana Ichinose - Hisui Yuuki Kuwahara - Kohaku ??? - Satsuki Yumizuka (the meme still lives, hopefully will be revealed in new pack) So far i think they are great (esp how new Shiki going hard, maan, thats nice), even tho its little sad not hear og cast there, but i guess its to be expected, since its all new. The og cast was almost perfect, i agree, salute to them!
I liked the old MB cast, but from the small amount of voice lines from the trailer, they seem to fit the characters well. I'm usually not a fan of cast changes, but this doesn't bother me at all.
As much as I like to meme about the anime not existing, me watching it a million years ago got me into reading Tsukihime and finding out about VNs in general so I'll give it that. I also love it's opening too to this day.
Gotta say i love the Opening, music (tho imo its needed more variety badly like Kalafina did) and some parts in it (bringing some part of THAT atmosphere at least), but in a whole its really lackluster experience (even by past anime standards?), as an separate media and adaptation.
On the positive note, i really cant express enough how much of genius Sasaki Shonen really is. To add to the vid, his Tsuki no Sango manga story telling in some parts even superior to Nasu's LN version itself. The MVP.
Yeah, the ending is basically this timeline version of Eclipse events unfold (and could\would serve as possible teaser of Tsukihime 2 if Type-Moon would not stuck on money and corporate problems that much). Now Type-Moon (Notes) at least seems to have more money to Mahoyo production level project, so all is left its tie all loose ends with big bang and have a drive to write\polish more for other sides of the Nasuverse, case and point Tsukihime Remake (Tsukihime Rebith still?). Tho with Type-Moon BB Studio running this turning kind of *funny* , but hey they not necessary be a long term *Nasuverse* projects studio if we see they plans. Still im happy for F/E HD Arc and F/E Record in general.

Type Moon and Ufotable is sitting on money. I feel like if they adapted more series it would be successful. Mahoyo, Tsukihime, Notes, ddd, there are so many novels to choose from. Unfortunately there’s no demand for it. Fate overshadows the rest of the Nasuverse.
Chicken and egg situation. 99% of fate fans dont even know about non anime fate adaptions beyond fgo let alone other tm series. How there be demand without support and visibility? Look at demon slayer. It was extremely niche with small following until ufotable got involved. Build it and they will come

Having recently finished the Tsukihime manga I can definitely say it's amazing and the best version of Arcueid's Route, and only surpassed by Hisui's Route which is an underrated masterpiece in my opinion
The manga did help the pacing for Arcueid's route, which was my biggest problem with it. There was a little too much exposition, and the manga handled that perfectly. Hisui has my favorite route as well. Even though half of it was Shiki going insane in his room, it was intense and my favorite part of the VN. The big twist and ending was perfect as well.
@@NeNeiSan Definitely, the pacing issues were made nonexistent in the manga, and the manga having gorgeous art is a huge plus too Finally, someone who's favorite route is Hisui's route, I almost thought I was the only one who preferred it over the others. I loved how it explores Shiki's insanity the most in a very captivating way, it's so depressing but you can't stop reading it, the only other stories I've seen suffering done so well is Higurashi and Re:Zero. Also I love how it has the most wholesome romance since the other girls tried to kill Shiki at one point or another other than I think Akiha but the incest kinda ruins any really good romance that could come from it. The twist and the ending were both excellent and Hisui having the resolve to move forward even after "the deaths" is simply inspirational. I can't wait to reread that masterpiece in the remake.
I agree...personally arc is best girl but hisui route is best route in novel. I do prefer the manga over novel since it is more focused and confident in what its focusing on. The art and upgrade in badass doesnt hurt either
@@littlegiogio8732 Its not really incest tho. Akiha was playing family except that Shiki was clueless about it most of time. Him finally remembering his memories is enough to set Akiha and Shiki apart as completely different characters with different families. Shiki's life is a tragedy who got dragged into all this family puzzle and switching despite him being a innocent child. All that is enough to overlook the "incest" factor which is not really incest in the first place. All routes focuses on Shiki and his relationships with each girl really differently and its a breath of fresh air all the time. Each route helps develops his character.
@@Glacier7474 I mean I get what your saying, they are technically not related, and Akiha was lying to Shiki about it the whole time. The problem is though, that both Akiha and Shiki treated each other as brother and sister respectively, and even though it was all a lie. The fact is they both, well at least in Shiki's case for sure, viewed each other as siblings. Not just for a few months, but many years, over a decade if I'm remembering correctly, and you could argue that Akiha had romantic feelings for Shiki for a while. That is true, the thing is Shiki didn't have romantic feelings for Akiha until the main events of the story takes place, this all means that Shiki went from viewing Akiha as a sister to viewing Akiha as a woman in less than two weeks. I mean Shiki falling in love with the other girls is also quick in comparison, though they were all around his age when he really got to know him. The only exception is Hisui, though that's different because Shiki viewed Hisui as a friend with a nice smile, and not his sister. So what I'm trying to say is that at least Shiki shouldn't have had developed these romantic feelings so quickly. I also think that Akiha would have been better off without her own route like Illya in Fate/Stay Night, but that's my opinion. I do agree that each route shows off different sides of Shiki by having him interact more with the main girl of each respective route, really well and I do like that
With new "Ahnenerbe-type" anime special announced, i remembered to recommend ppl to check out Mahou Tsukai no Hako: Starlit Marmalade Manga mangadex.org/title/13399/mahou-tsukai-no-hako-starlit-marmalade & MahoHako Drama CD (tho there is not much translation of this one), as its a part of Tsuki-verse too. its a fun read, esp if you know some lore that is referenced there, also cool to see more of Chikagi and Hibiki.
Uh, no? They should've done exactly the opposite. By cutting or reworking bloated and repeating dialogues, exposition, flashbacks as well as scenes with Arihiko (seriously why does he have more screen presence than Nero?) you suddenly have enough run time for a full episode on Ciel and Akiha (or even more than that). Unlike the Remake, Shingetsutan makes the original story even smaller and slower. So whatever, if there's not enough episodes or budget for the flashy action scenes, then make Akiha and Ciel actually do something, it wouldn't hurt Arcueid's character anyway.
Have you read Mahoutsukai no Yoru? It's set in the same universe as Tsukihime, only in the past and tells the story of Shiki's 'sensei' Aoko and two others. I found all three main characters to be really fun and likeable.
@@NeNeiSan I get why you'd want to go for that approach, but do realise that waiting for the Mahoyo VN to be fully translated in English is akin to waiting for the Tsukihime remake to be released. In other words you'd better pray you're GRANDKIDS will get to see it in their lifetime. Ok, I'm exaggerating. The good news is that it already has 8 chapters translated, plus about 3 chapters from the 'archives', so that's more that ten chapters worth of content to read, OR alternatively, if you can read French, then rejoice, for it has been fully translated into that language. But of you'd still prefer to wait for the complete translation to experience the awesomeness that is Aoko Aozaki (and Soujurou) then... that's cool.

Dear god I just started the F/SN VN and melty blood comes out in September. And I get the HF movies for Christmas. All that with FGO is going to consume my life. Oh wait I don't have one. Nevermind.
Yep, the Nasuverse is an alluring spiral. Once you think you are caught up, there will some other series or additional entry you haven't heard about. I've started with FSN 2 and a half years ago and am still trying to catch up on certain stuff. It's brought me many good experiences, so I can't complain!
I really loved Arcueid's character and personal story. I wasn't a huge fan of Ciel, but she still had some great moments. Personally, my favorite were Arcueid and Hisui.
There is a reason both Fate Stay Nights animations were 24 episodes. Still condensed but far better pacing. Carnival Phantasm did a better job and it was a parody.
The thing is, I think with decent enough directing and focusing strictly on Arcueid's route, it could have been at least a decent adaptation. I don't know how, but the anime condense 8+ hours of content into 4 hours and still managed to feel dragged out while the the mysteries and key scenes feel uneventful. There is a lot of potential for how all of Tsukihime's best aspects can be shown visually and would love to see another adaptation of some kind.
Neneisan. You have 12 episodes to make an anime adaption of a 10s of hours long vn and every second counts in making a satisfying series in the time allotted. Do you A. Focus on the core theme of the story you want to focus on with lazer sharp focus B. Trim all unrelated fat to atleast give a comprehensible if barebones recreation of events C. Take everyone to the fucking amusement park for an entire episode of boring stilted harem hijinks completely unrelated to the actual plot
I went in with the same mentality, it's not just bad, it's also painfully boring. Near the end I had to watch it at 2x speed to keep from dozing off. If you can handle that, go for it.

Wow, this is exactly like Fate 06. Dated animation, taking storylines from other routes and not developed but has a beautiful OST.

I always saw people play Melty Blood whenever I went to EVO. Its a pretty hype game but I was awful at it. Cool to see where it came from

Having recently finished the Tsukihime manga I can definitely say it's amazing and the best version of Arcueid's Route, and only surpassed by Hisui's Route which is an underrated masterpiece in my opinion
The manga did help the pacing for Arcueid's route, which was my biggest problem with it. There was a little too much exposition, and the manga handled that perfectly.
Hisui has my favorite route as well. Even though half of it was Shiki going insane in his room, it was intense and my favorite part of the VN. The big twist and ending was perfect as well.
@@NeNeiSan Definitely, the pacing issues were made nonexistent in the manga, and the manga having gorgeous art is a huge plus too
Finally, someone who's favorite route is Hisui's route, I almost thought I was the only one who preferred it over the others. I loved how it explores Shiki's insanity the most in a very captivating way, it's so depressing but you can't stop reading it, the only other stories I've seen suffering done so well is Higurashi and Re:Zero. Also I love how it has the most wholesome romance since the other girls tried to kill Shiki at one point or another other than I think Akiha but the incest kinda ruins any really good romance that could come from it. The twist and the ending were both excellent and Hisui having the resolve to move forward even after "the deaths" is simply inspirational. I can't wait to reread that masterpiece in the remake.
I agree...personally arc is best girl but hisui route is best route in novel. I do prefer the manga over novel since it is more focused and confident in what its focusing on. The art and upgrade in badass doesnt hurt either
@@littlegiogio8732 Its not really incest tho. Akiha was playing family except that Shiki was clueless about it most of time. Him finally remembering his memories is enough to set Akiha and Shiki apart as completely different characters with different families. Shiki's life is a tragedy who got dragged into all this family puzzle and switching despite him being a innocent child. All that is enough to overlook the "incest" factor which is not really incest in the first place.
All routes focuses on Shiki and his relationships with each girl really differently and its a breath of fresh air all the time. Each route helps develops his character.
@@Glacier7474 I mean I get what your saying, they are technically not related, and Akiha was lying to Shiki about it the whole time. The problem is though, that both Akiha and Shiki treated each other as brother and sister respectively, and even though it was all a lie. The fact is they both, well at least in Shiki's case for sure, viewed each other as siblings. Not just for a few months, but many years, over a decade if I'm remembering correctly, and you could argue that Akiha had romantic feelings for Shiki for a while. That is true, the thing is Shiki didn't have romantic feelings for Akiha until the main events of the story takes place, this all means that Shiki went from viewing Akiha as a sister to viewing Akiha as a woman in less than two weeks. I mean Shiki falling in love with the other girls is also quick in comparison, though they were all around his age when he really got to know him. The only exception is Hisui, though that's different because Shiki viewed Hisui as a friend with a nice smile, and not his sister. So what I'm trying to say is that at least Shiki shouldn't have had developed these romantic feelings so quickly. I also think that Akiha would have been better off without her own route like Illya in Fate/Stay Night, but that's my opinion. I do agree that each route shows off different sides of Shiki by having him interact more with the main girl of each respective route, really well and I do like that

With new "Ahnenerbe-type" anime special announced, i remembered to recommend ppl to check out Mahou Tsukai no Hako: Starlit Marmalade Manga mangadex.org/title/13399/mahou-tsukai-no-hako-starlit-marmalade & MahoHako Drama CD (tho there is not much translation of this one), as its a part of Tsuki-verse too. its a fun read, esp if you know some lore that is referenced there, also cool to see more of Chikagi and Hibiki.

Uh, no? They should've done exactly the opposite. By cutting or reworking bloated and repeating dialogues, exposition, flashbacks as well as scenes with Arihiko (seriously why does he have more screen presence than Nero?) you suddenly have enough run time for a full episode on Ciel and Akiha (or even more than that). Unlike the Remake, Shingetsutan makes the original story even smaller and slower. So whatever, if there's not enough episodes or budget for the flashy action scenes, then make Akiha and Ciel actually do something, it wouldn't hurt Arcueid's character anyway.
Have you read Mahoutsukai no Yoru? It's set in the same universe as Tsukihime, only in the past and tells the story of Shiki's 'sensei' Aoko and two others. I found all three main characters to be really fun and likeable.
I really want to read it, but I'm going to wait once the game is fully translated.
@@NeNeiSan I get why you'd want to go for that approach, but do realise that waiting for the Mahoyo VN to be fully translated in English is akin to waiting for the Tsukihime remake to be released. In other words you'd better pray you're GRANDKIDS will get to see it in their lifetime. Ok, I'm exaggerating.
The good news is that it already has 8 chapters translated, plus about 3 chapters from the 'archives', so that's more that ten chapters worth of content to read, OR alternatively, if you can read French, then rejoice, for it has been fully translated into that language.
But of you'd still prefer to wait for the complete translation to experience the awesomeness that is Aoko Aozaki (and Soujurou) then... that's cool.
@@strpth414 I realize it will take a while, but I will probably have a better experience playing through it in its entirety. I don't mind the wait, I still have a bunch of other series I'm currently reading.

Dear god I just started the F/SN VN and melty blood comes out in September. And I get the HF movies for Christmas. All that with FGO is going to consume my life. Oh wait I don't have one. Nevermind.
Yep, the Nasuverse is an alluring spiral. Once you think you are caught up, there will some other series or additional entry you haven't heard about. I've started with FSN 2 and a half years ago and am still trying to catch up on certain stuff. It's brought me many good experiences, so I can't complain!

I really loved Arcueid's character and personal story. I wasn't a huge fan of Ciel, but she still had some great moments. Personally, my favorite were Arcueid and Hisui.
Kohaku is best girl for me
There is a reason both Fate Stay Nights animations were 24 episodes. Still condensed but far better pacing. Carnival Phantasm did a better job and it was a parody.
The thing is, I think with decent enough directing and focusing strictly on Arcueid's route, it could have been at least a decent adaptation.
I don't know how, but the anime condense 8+ hours of content into 4 hours and still managed to feel dragged out while the the mysteries and key scenes feel uneventful. There is a lot of potential for how all of Tsukihime's best aspects can be shown visually and would love to see another adaptation of some kind.
Neneisan. You have 12 episodes to make an anime adaption of a 10s of hours long vn and every second counts in making a satisfying series in the time allotted. Do you
A. Focus on the core theme of the story you want to focus on with lazer sharp focus
B. Trim all unrelated fat to atleast give a comprehensible if barebones recreation of events
C. Take everyone to the fucking amusement park for an entire episode of boring stilted harem hijinks completely unrelated to the actual plot

I went in with the same mentality, it's not just bad, it's also painfully boring. Near the end I had to watch it at 2x speed to keep from dozing off. If you can handle that, go for it.
