I always loved that moment in "Static in Africa" where Virgil talks about his experience as a young black man--how he's not a "black kid" there in Africa, just a kid. That kind of issue, about the subtle ways you might see yourself as different even in your own home due to race or heritage, doesn't get mentioned in children's TV shows often.
Try and find the Commando X trilogy from the original Milestone comics (issues #5-7), if you love that moment. One of them, I believe #6, has an incredible sequence of Virgil and Frieda talking to their parents about racial divides. Actually, just read the entire run if you can; it was an amazing series.
I've watched Static Shock deal with racism, homelessness, and bullying. If they bring back this show (and they should), I'd like to see episodes about drug addiction, STD's, and abusive relationships.

well, they had different backstories, im sure you now and a you in a timeline where you got brutally tortured for days wouldn't be all the similar in general vibe, but static still has his joking personality in YJ just a little shook up
I'll agree with the later two comments, source event for the powers can have a decent impact on their active personality moving forward, and it also doesn't help that YJ Static doesn't have A) familiar characters to bounce off of like Gear/Ritchie that have a long history prior, B) nearly as much focus as a character due to being in a large-scale ensemble-cast show, and C) an impossible to bridge gap in ability to run things by his original creator for character advice (RIP Dwayne)

Static shock is without a doubt the best TV show from my childhood it not only had amazing action a hero who used his brain instead of punching his way out of everything a different villain with cool superpowers every week and it dealt with some pretty serious issues racism,gang violence,homelessness, school shootings,dyslexia bullying,lost loved ones. This show was truly ahead-of-its-time. I really hope they make a live-action movie and or show I only hope it lives up to the comic and the cartoon
