R.I.P Dwayne McDuffie!!! you told some awesome stories in comics and most readers haven't the slightest clue of your impact!!! Just happy I got to some of them!!!
I love static shock. It sucks because Static is literally DC's answer to Spider-Man. He's that memorable of a character. Yet they never use him the way they should, sucks man.
Static Shock is what got me into comics. It's a shame nobody does anything with him anymore. But the animated series was great on it's own, nonetheless.
Dayle Norris They use them just enough to avoid having to give the rights back to Milestone, similar to how Fox makes a Fantastic Four movie just often enough to avoid losing the rights back to Marvel. It's a case of "we don't want to use these characters because we can't figure out how to make them profitable, but we can't risk our competitors being able to" :/
Honestly, I think if any static shock movie is coming into play, it needs to be animated. There’s something about how dc animated movies are way better than some of their live actions. This needs to happen.
The animated movies just have no limitations...and people who actually like the characters they animate in charge of them...thats why dc animated movies are constantly better than their live-action counterpart
This is so messed up. Static is a icon for not only black people, but for every person in the world that feels like a minority. This character gave us not only great entertainment, but taught us life lessons. He was the greatest person that D.C. made. Just because his toys didn't sell. That's no reason to obliterate the character entirely. All we want is to give a character that we all love his rightful place in the D.C. Universe.
I can agree with that. I was a white kid who lived in rural NC but I still felt very out of place at school. While everyone else was into hunting and Nascar, I was into cartoons and toys. Static Shock came on and showed heroism in a different light, Static wasn't a brooding loner like Batman or a god among men like Superman, he was a teenager who got bullied, had geeky hobbies, and realistic family problems. Many people love Spiderman for that same reason, and that's totally fair, but I didn't grow up with Spidey, I grew up with Static.
I'm not a huge DC fan but growing up as an only kid in a lower, middle class family with very few friends, I turned to shows and games for inspiration and guidance as my parents were divorced and busy working. And where games brought me Spyro, Pokemon, Crash Bandicoot and other miscellaneous series that I still hold dear to this day... The shows I watched really defined the genres and media that I would seek out later in life. Static Shock, Teen Titans, The X-Men Animated Series, He-Man. I watched all these as a kid and they stuck with me throughout everything else I've ever watched. Those shows came out at a time when the creators still gave a rat's ass about the intelligence of their viewers and didn't try to insult us by crapping out poorly crafted shows. Not to say that their aren't still good shows coming out but they're few and far between the mindless dribble when compared to the shows when I was growing up. Again... Not to say that there aren't well crafted and clever shows out now and even pointless and mindless shows back then but everything from when I was growing up had so much charm. Like the creators actually cared about their work and not the dollar sign. Or at least they understood that a well crafted series will sell regardless. Static was a personal hero for as well. And while I'm not a fan of the racial debate as I grew up in an incredibly diverse area with a great mother who was capable of seeing past such things and focus on a person's actions... (I digress)... Static did still influence me alot. I had wanted to be like him for a long time. What wasn't to like about him? He was smart and funny with a die-hard, life-long friend. Such things were what I envied. But I moved away from what few friends I had. My mom re-married to an amazing guy who I'm proud to call my (step)father and we moved into the hills. I didn't have many opportunities to socialize in the hills as most people, while friendly, just wanna be left alone. That's why they moved there. So, Static is still one of my favorite heroes. And that's coming from a Marvel fan. I also, love the Teen Titans immensely as I still watch both shows. =D
uh yeah, the vidoe just explained why. but he's obviosly not unwanted as he has a growing fanbase here. geniuses are very believeable. it can be a family trait and influence. cyborg doesn't work as a stand alone for the same reason Robin doesn't. teams are cool because you have group dynamic, they play off each other.
@biggs949597 s Static is a great character and he isn't a forced black character. You just don't seem to like black characters. However, Black Lightning is forced.
biggs949597 s “he’s not a good character, nobody wants to read him” really, then explain why his comic was successful back in the 90s and had his own animated show and getting a fan film. He sounds pretty good to me if he has all that. Explain why 99% of people in the comment wants him back as a movie or show. Let me guess, you’re answer is “ because he’s black” lol fuck outta here you snowflake ❄️ like I said, keep crying about “muh white genocide” you loser. Nobody cares about your feelings 😂😂😂
biggs949597 s well, he was a good character though, just not really pushed very hard. Characters like modern comics black panther aren't good, & that's why they don't sell, not because of race, but because of obvious pandering to a demographic that's not buying the books in the first place. Most comic fans don't care what race the character is as long as it's original & has a good story, & static had both of those things. Him being black is a solid theory as to why it didn't do well... But it's easily debunked. I also apologize for that guy calling you a snowflake & strawmanning you with the "white genocide" thing.. Not sure where that came from, but I'm guessing he has issues.
@@hudsen3492 i know hes also taken down joker poison ivy harley quinn brainiac even toyman 3 of those was batmans villians the other 2 are supermans along with every villian of his own from hotstreak to ebon heck he even took down sinestro when he tryed to frame green lantern john Stewart quite the impressive hero resume for a so called crappy character.
Well, I'm old. I hadn't been a _'kid'_ for about twenty years when *STATIC* debuted on television. I only learned of *_MILESTONE_* maybe a couple of years ago.
u know why they don't use static ... Couse he will be too popular... static is one of the best looking real down to earth characters who came in at a time were kids wanted to relate to a hero who did things they did
So Milestone oppressed their own character because they could not stand to see their S.S. character getting too popular? What a genius deduction on your part.
twinjuice17 potentially. Notice how DC tends to choose who they put at the forefront. They are fine with The Flash and Harley Quinn's popularity but Static and Tim Drake keep on getting shafted in other media.
A Static Shock Movie would be a great move by DC. if they start taking lesser known characters and making them iconic they'll start getting people tired of the Batmen and Supermen movies.
Sorry but this is a terrible idea no ones tired of Batman and Superman movies man of steel was good and bat man v super was ok but making a static movie would put a coffin on the dceu maybe a cow show
@ as much as I hate to say it it's true the DCEU would absolutely destroy the character of Static Shock if they made a movie about him they would turn him into a murderer just like they destroyed batman and Superman they made them killers Superman snapped Zod neck batman ran over a bunch of people
@@dorkknight7973 itd have to be somewhat light hearted but just enough seriousness. Pretty easy to do if they took inspiration from the cartoon or his comics, sadly they dont have the brains in the dceu, to busy appeasing a shallow audience that doesnt pay like disney did with starwars.
Windell Pete they gave us icon and his sidekick, blue Beetle, static and Aqua lad in young justice hopefully they will give static more story in young justice
I think DC should just go for the gusto, and put Static in a DC movie just throw him in but do it right. I think he deserves more than just a small part. I can literally see both Virgil and Richie coming out of the blue, suiting up and jumping in to action and taking over the screen for a few seconds. I can see Static flying in on his hover disc thing, or make it comedic and have him use a trash can lid for nostalgia. I'm sure everyone can see him as a good fit. It's similar to Black Panther in a way. Every fan knows he would work, he is a very popular character and Marvel said "let's do it" they did it and look where we're at with him. Static Shock can do the same if done right
Windell Pete Seeing as how Shazam is going to be released in 2019, Making movies for other obscure DC heroes like Static would be fantastic if they stay true to what made the source material so beloved to begin with.
So what I'm getting as the jist is... DC has to pay a little bit to essentially rent Static from Milestone and pay each time they use him so they probably don't want to if he's not selling that well. On the flipside Milestone can't use Static while DC is renting him out and DC keeps thinking that maybe they'll want to use Static so they use him just often enough to stop the character from going back to Milestone? So we get a situation where everyone wants Static but nobody wants to pay for him.
Basically, DC uses Static the same cyclical way Sony uses Spiderman: just enough so that they'll retain the rights, and every time they do: it falls flat, even further justifying the practice of using the IP just enough so they retain the rights and the cycle repeats
BeyondDaX money is not bad and if they put real money in to it then it would be good but they do not see a maret for even though people really want more storys
Static rightfully belongs to Milestone so they deserve to govern what happens to him, he is technically their baby. The problem is that big companies like DC and Marvel are in the limelight to much and overshadow some really good companies such as Image and TopCow comics. Other companies deserve the spotlight too and the rights over their works.
I'd rather keep wishing for milestone 2.0 than to have characters I grew to love get bastardized and play second fiddle to these other white superheroes. It would be nice to have a Blood Syndicate show on Netflix though.
@@JanArrah milestone right now, seems to be in coma now, if they can't continue to make a static comicbook solo series.. then give the full right of character to DC..
Static played a BIG part in my cartoon lineup. LOVED his powers and I wish I was a bit more like Virgil. When Static was off television, I was crushed. I thought he was the only African American Super Hero that we all can root for until this stuff with DC and the creators of Static. Forget the toys, we just want a hero that represents us.
Both of them are badass, but I love Static and his power set. Although he was still learning more about his powers, I know enough of Green Lantern. Kal'dur I'm not sure of but he sounds familiar. Gotta do some research!
Alex Davenport no it's not, real black MEN are not bi-sexual nor do we claim to want to associate with them..I'm a black man so I know a thing or too...
Static was also in Young Justice as one of the kidnapped kids that got powers. Also Dwayne McDuffy made my childhood with his contributions to the Justice League cartoon. Every one of my favorite episodes has him as one of the writers.
I miss Static so much!!! Static Shock was one of my favorite cartoons as a kid and was probably the first show I ever watched that made me so emotional I cried, multiple times (I don't remember both episodes but one of them was the one where Vergil went back in time and met his mom). He meant so much to me as a kid and just as much now, I hope and pray DC will eventually realize how popular he is.
Living in the D.C. Universe sounds terrifying. There's not only planet scale danger but galaxy to universe scale dangers. One day your taking a walk and u suddenly see Darkseide invading earth. When a universe is being ripped apart U wake up as a different person.
When I met Dwayne McDuff he was the nicest comic writer I have ever met, his passing still makes me said to this day, I feel so lucky to have met him and get a copy of static shock from him. I hope one day the character comes back in some way shape or form if for nothing else but to keep Dwayne’s dreams and world alive.
they should have made a live action static shock show, not a black lightning one. I feel static is more known, and more loved, especially due to his cartoon series.
Wait... This video seems to imply that Dwayne McDuffie is still alive. He died back in February of 2011 so he couldn't have posted on Facebook about this unless those posts were in 2010 or before.
People seem to be avoiding this issue: Milestone made a mistake by sharing their characters with DC. No matter how you slice it, Milestone is their competition. It's not always about money. They saw how popular Milestone characters were with the Black demographic, so they arranged a deal Milestone thought would give them exposure, but instead DC used a contract to sit on their characters so Milestone can't make a dime from them. Black superheroes got f#### by greedy DC.
That's why I was against Milestone working with DC. Anyone with a brain would have known this would have happened. Dc is doing there very best of making sure Milestone never publish Static in a way that he would rival the top Dc heroes.
Dc just help milestone to publish their comics. The reason why milestone is so quiet is because the creator Dwayne mcduffie die over heart disease. Until then they just went silent. Dc were selling new 52 static comics and publish other milestone characters. The new 52 static wasn't that good since the creator died. This happens to every independent comic book company. So don't try to pander race into this fictional world.
The crap lord Sell: Please. What rock have you been living under? You have no idea the psychological effects comics and imaginary heroes have on people. And I'm not in the mood to give you a lesson. You really think Milestone is making things harder for DC for THEIR character to get exposure, in their little secret contract? DC is just giving them enough bread to keep them alive, but that's it, and a powerful enough company like DC knows that.
The new 52 static was a complete waste of money and time. If DC had just giving Milestone the breathing room to make their comic the way THEY (Milestone) wanted, DC would have been much richer. You seem to forget that DC will only publish what THEY (DC) like and not what Milestone like. That right there limits to what Milestone could. Tbh, Static is just a great character that he would be "the Spiderman" for DC.
Hmmmm You know, I never knew Icon's Backstory, I should Look him up... *Finds Comicvine page* Huh, this is a really neat backstor- Wait, Why does That Image have his suit mostly Red? "Earth M"? What's that? "DC to Relaunch Milestone Universe With 2018's 'Earth M'" BENNY WAS RIGHT OMG!!!!
TangledLion Icon's background is deep.....but mostly a mystery. His history goes back hundreds of years. He was a slave at one point.....Very Interesting.
Collins Ongaya I don't think they ever gave a date yet. WB is working on a streaming service akin to the WWE network (DCTV?!) and YJ sn3 will be exclusive to that. There will be a few Live Action shows as well.
new 52 Static run sucked, that's why it didn't sell. he's a great character and DC can get a lot out of him if they just put a good writer and artist on the book. hopefully we see more Static in the future.
stephen smiley new 52 static may have sucked; but why is everyone ignoring his original milestone run? is it because comic book shops refused to sell the books because they assumed white readers wouldn't be interested? that still applies today. how many white readers does Blue Marvel have? his origin story is amazing. the Ultimates is another great book. white readers aren't reading.
Blue marvel had a decent amount of white readers, black Panther had lots of white readers and now getting his own movie. Static shock cartoon was successful thanks to his original comic book which everyone loves. There are plenty of white characters who aren't getting famous. The new 52 wasn't a good sell for anyone. Why are you just pointing out white readers. Comic book readers are very diverse and most of them are asian.
I think Blue Marvel gets something of a pass, *because* he's a Marvel character and he's interacted with some big names. Therefore he got some good exposure. But a lot of white comic readers wouldn't have bothered with Milestone which was an up and coming 90s company that many dismissed as "black comics."
I wish they would, but who knows. The creator of Black lightning wasn't going to bring Virgil to the show. He also wasn't going to do the infinite crisis
Static shock is being used in DC Universe Online. He is apart of the Teen Titans and is a bounty for villains to fight. That is the only use of him that I am aware of outside comics.
Chances are Static will probably show up in Young Justice: Outsiders season 3. Which is in development right now. We have already seen Static in season 2 of Young Justice. So the odds are good that Static will show up for season 3.
It's criminal with what DC has done with Milestone especially Icon, Hardware, Static. The Heroes team was MCU Avengers/GotG before brought them out. At the very least bring back Static, pair him with Black Lightning and put him in Teen Titans.
What dc is doing to milestone should be illegal. If they just say ok we done and let milestone go I bet marvel will jump on them so hard. With icon and static kevin feige is somewhere licking his chops.
@@treylakingz9029 but dc are now bringing back milestone and are resuming integrating them into the D.C. universe. There’s even gonna be an earth m in the D.C. multiverse.
I just want to say when I was growing up in the south Static Shock was a important black icon of mine. That along with the X-Men, Green Lantern, and Batman Beyond made me more accepting of others even when I was surrounded by racists, bigots, and misogynists.
The south isn't full of racists, misogynists, & bigots... Perhaps u weren't saying that, but that's the implication. You just grew up in a bad place, no different than growing up in any other bad place. Personally, I enjoyed static, he was a nice break from the regular powers & batman being the greatest thing since sliced bread.
TK Tyler they are making a movie so they will bring him back after the movie in rebirth the real question is where's booster gold he fixes timelines where the fuck is he at
TK Tyler Right where's Martian Manhunter? Shazam. I guess Rebirth is focusing on certain characters. But we're gerting the reemergence of some like Zatana just popped up a few weeks back in Detective comics
I think Icon needs more Love totally under appreciated character with a awesome back story dude can go blow for blow with superman without breaking a sweat
Like a sort of Blue Marvel in DC. DC though needs more heroes its a little less populated and Marvel has too many heroes/ppl with powers it seems over crowded.
True true I was just looking at an article about how many different characters in marvel had the same name as a previous hero marvel is just over saturated
Sekou Moriels Ik Martian manhunter's human form is black now, but I don't think it's always been, I remember him being a white detective back then wasn't he?
So it's up to us. If you want static back buy anything with static on it. Comics, t-shirts, a rock that looks like him who cares you want him back vote with your wallet
The case is same with Shazam and Booster Gold both of them have been barely or never seen in Rebirth. I am deeply disappointed, especially with Shazam because he was in every rebirth poster.
Static would be a much better addition to the Teen Titans than that Aqua Lad reject they introduced, you know the one they never pay attention too. I honestly hope they end up using Static and Icon soon in the New DC rebirth.
Lee'Mon Staples He has a storyline going on right now, he is being paid attention. Static deserves his own solo series that works inside the DC Rebirth landscape
no I was talking about Aqua Lad from the Teen Titans who no one pays any attention too. I was saying Static would be a better fit than Aqua Lad but I do agree he needs his own solo series
well IDK but with all the things going on in DC Rebirth with the Watchmen and the justice league I think they could make something up or even throw him in as a new hero that is finding his way, there are so many possibilities
What happened to him? His creator died. A black visionary who too care with their characters such as as the topics of racism, classism, gun control etc Then DC got their hands on static and put him in the background of young justice and that's all we'll ever see sadly.
TripJay21 They made more than enough money off the tv series to recoup it's cost and and MAKE a profit. They want the tv shows to just advertise and popularize the toy merchandise. That's literally why Teen titans was canceled. Not enough Toy Sales
Highmanity - Yep. They introduced all those "affirmative action heroes", as I call them, from the Super Friends (Black Vulcan, Samurai, Apache Chief and El Dorado), but as kidnapped teenagers, with Static being introduced as that universe's Black Vulcan.
White Aussie dude here, collected the entire Milestone line, loved them, especially Static and Icon. Great, original characters, good stories, great art. Wasn't til later I learned I wasn't supposed to like them, as they were "black comics" (I'm sure Boogeyman would disagree, from blood Syndicate for those who forget), but it never occured to me. I just like what i like, and out of a lot of the drok from the 90's, these were GREAT. The only disappointment was the gradual cancelling of the various lines. It was the 90's. Bad time. But it was great to see people create original, likeable, characters. Hell, Holocaust was an awesome villain. No "rule the world" nonsense, he just wanted to rule his city, like the boss he was. Got excited a few years back at rumours it (Milestone) was returning, but kinda given up expecting much more. Much like with the Ultraverse, great memories, but it seems to be all we're gonna get
Wait why haven’t you guys talked about young justice?? Static is clearly in the show as well as Icon. A season 3 was finally announced after a long hiatus and I’m sure he’s gonna play a huge role in the show.
The static shock TV show had 52 episodes. That was the normal amount for a wb animated show. Batman beyond Jackie Chan adventures and xiaolin showdown all had 52 episodes. I think it was just the normal contract length at the time.
Brian if im not mistaken static was more popular than those shows, xiaolan showdown also got another season in 2014, and cw also showed Pokémon which ran way longer.
yes static was way more popular. and xiaolin showdown did get another season 10 years after. the later season of xiaolan showdown was made by a different company ActionFliks. the original contract with WB was most likely for 52 episodes. im betting the reason xiaolin showdown was able to make a extra season. was because it wasn't part of the WB and or DC. ActionFliks probably got the licence and contract for very cheap. but static IS part of DC. as static has appeared in static shock, justice league, young justice. batman beyond, zeta project, and teen titans. pokemon was produced in japan and not made by WB. WB just bought the licence to show pokemon.

D.C should be using all the milestone charaters it seems like a wasted opportunity.
Big durk DC does use all of the Milestone characters just not all the time
Pikachu Mekaichu true
Big durk Yes! We need more of Icon!
Big durk Exactly Static should be on Titans or Teen Titans. Icon is extremely underused.
This needs to happen.
diana figueroa nah we need live action there aren’t enough black hero’s in DC we can’t waste static on animation if black lighting already exists
The animated movies just have no limitations...and people who actually like the characters they animate in charge of them...thats why dc animated movies are constantly better than their live-action counterpart
That's what I 've been saying dc is good at animation not live action
Facts
@@drackestalentorgen166 the only reason DC Started making their non animated movies is because marvel was doing it
This is so messed up.
Trevin Carroll Milestone comics is coming back in 2018
Did you miss the part where DC did not make this character? Try to keep up.
Trevin Carroll hehe.. Static is an ICON
I just need static back
Jacqueline Bim I miss static
Dark Horse He was the realist G
Jacqueline Bim Static is my man I miss him
uh yeah, the vidoe just explained why. but he's obviosly not unwanted as he has a growing fanbase here. geniuses are very believeable. it can be a family trait and influence. cyborg doesn't work as a stand alone for the same reason Robin doesn't. teams are cool because you have group dynamic, they play off each other.
@biggs949597 s Static is a great character and he isn't a forced black character. You just don't seem to like black characters. However, Black Lightning is forced.
If dc had just put the right creative team behind static it could have been a very successful franchise
Spiderman level franchise
I agree
biggs949597 s “he’s not a good character, nobody wants to read him” really, then explain why his comic was successful back in the 90s and had his own animated show and getting a fan film.
Not sure where that came from, but I'm guessing he has issues.
biggs949597 s What the hell, you are saying because he’s black that he’s not as good of a character
Who else watched the cartoon as a kid
i did and im pale
Well, I'm old. I hadn't been a _'kid'_ for about twenty years when *STATIC* debuted on television. I only learned of *_MILESTONE_* maybe a couple of years ago.
one of my favorite shows on KidsWB :p
I did.
I did but I was about 30. It was one of my favorite cartoons and I’m a white boy.
u know why they don't use static ... Couse he will be too popular... static is one of the best looking real down to earth characters who came in at a time were kids wanted to relate to a hero who did things they did
twinjuice17 agreed
So Milestone oppressed their own character because they could not stand to see their S.S. character getting too popular? What a genius deduction on your part.
Matthew Ronson Jr. might be more on DC’s part than milestones
Matthew Ronson Jr. they did that to shazam. He was more popular than superman at a point and they toned him down. But that's different. You are right.
twinjuice17 potentially. Notice how DC tends to choose who they put at the forefront. They are fine with The Flash and Harley Quinn's popularity but Static and Tim Drake keep on getting shafted in other media.
RIP Dwayne McDuffie
I was surprised to learn that Keegan Michael are brothers
Man thats that bullshit. Static wouldve been lit as fuck. He puts a shock to your system
RIP Dwayne Mcduffie
A Static Shock Movie would be a great move by DC. if they start taking lesser known characters and making them iconic they'll start getting people tired of the Batmen and Supermen movies.
Sorry but this is a terrible idea no ones tired of Batman and Superman movies man of steel was good and bat man v super was ok but making a static movie would put a coffin on the dceu maybe a cow show
Darkswaggboss thats what they said about guardians of the galaxy and iron man, but look at them now
@@darkswaggboss9059 man of steel sucks
@ as much as I hate to say it it's true the DCEU would absolutely destroy the character of Static Shock if they made a movie about him they would turn him into a murderer just like they destroyed batman and Superman they made them killers Superman snapped Zod neck batman ran over a bunch of people
@@dorkknight7973 itd have to be somewhat light hearted but just enough seriousness. Pretty easy to do if they took inspiration from the cartoon or his comics, sadly they dont have the brains in the dceu, to busy appeasing a shallow audience that doesnt pay like disney did with starwars.
DC comics needs to work on bringing Static Shock and other Milestone Comics characters to the big screen. It's long overdue.
I mean the girl from milestone was in young justice but that's it
Windell Pete they gave us icon and his sidekick, blue Beetle, static and Aqua lad in young justice hopefully they will give static more story in young justice
Thato Omphile there was a rumor that dc rebirth were gonna bring back characters of milestone comics into the main continuity
Static Shock can do the same if done right
Windell Pete Seeing as how Shazam is going to be released in 2019, Making movies for other obscure DC heroes like Static would be fantastic if they stay true to what made the source material so beloved to begin with.
black panther hits hard static will be everywhere
jermaine hawkins same thing I said. It's just a matter of time after the see the REVENUE Black Panther brings. I believe they only see numbers
Lets buy black panther toys instead of captain america toys, only then, will we get what we want. Static!!!
+peruse_the_guide i hate that toy buys control everything :(
@peruse_the_guide: Great idea! Let's take it even further - if we can: let's NOT go see ANY comic book movies other than Black Panther.
Sucks that other companies can't just offer up money to get him out of that middleground.
Michael b Jordan is thinking about making a static movie
Basically, DC uses Static the same cyclical way Sony uses Spiderman: just enough so that they'll retain the rights, and every time they do: it falls flat, even further justifying the practice of using the IP just enough so they retain the rights and the cycle repeats
1blackone Yep. Its all about money.
BeyondDaX
money is not bad and if they put real money in to it then it would be good but they do not see a maret for even though people really want more storys
Eli Milestone doesn't really exist anymore. Which is why Dc folded the characters into their books. However, nobody bought the books.
I'd rather keep wishing for milestone 2.0 than to have characters I grew to love get bastardized and play second fiddle to these other white superheroes. It would be nice to have a Blood Syndicate show on Netflix though.
Milestone still exists.. In 2015 Milestone announced they were relaunching the line because Milestone Media is still there and still a company..
@@JanArrah milestone right now, seems to be in coma now, if they can't continue to make a static comicbook solo series.. then give the full right of character to DC..
Bruh. They want to make money off black characters just not pay the makers of the characters... They don't value black creatives.
^^^
This, nuff said.
I don’t think it’s only that; I think DC doesn’t believe that it will make them enough money as their more popular characters to use static.
Exactly, cheap fkers
You didn't even know Static was a created by a black guy before this video, so curb the virtue signaling, race baiting crap.
@@rickardrakkoon2500 it's better to make movies with black characters rather than race swap people.
You didn't like Jon Stewart or Kal'dur?
Both of them are badass, but I love Static and his power set. Although he was still learning more about his powers, I know enough of Green Lantern. Kal'dur I'm not sure of but he sounds familiar. Gotta do some research!
Malkav The Mad kal'dur is bi-sexual, he does not represent your avg black man...
9Master_Mind3 Well, that is debatable.
He's in young justice the first series maybe outsiders I haven't really gotten into that part yet
His name is spelled virgil
So basically Static is like a child who's parents are having bad custody disputes 🤔
Sahmon Goodman yes or think mcu spidey
Sahmon Goodman and then the parents loss the child and blame it on the other parent
😂😂 best explanation yet
well...thats not wrong.
I seen this show when I was 2 and I'm 12 now
Living in the D.C. Universe sounds terrifying. There's not only planet scale danger but galaxy to universe scale dangers. One day your taking a walk and u suddenly see Darkseide invading earth. When a universe is being ripped apart U wake up as a different person.
MysteriousMrM
it's like that in both DC Marvel's universe s
MK ULTRA SOLDIER II oh yeah forgot about how Doom became God.
MysteriousMrM I would rather live in DC then I could get my favorite power the abilities of a speedster
Even if u are a citizen that doesn't get involve with any hero activity you'll still get attacked by the world breaking reboots.
Not A Mimic I would probably have some kind of power suit in Dc
When I met Dwayne McDuff he was the nicest comic writer I have ever met, his passing still makes me said to this day, I feel so lucky to have met him and get a copy of static shock from him. I hope one day the character comes back in some way shape or form if for nothing else but to keep Dwayne’s dreams and world alive.
they should have made a live action static shock show, not a black lightning one. I feel static is more known, and more loved, especially due to his cartoon series.
yes i agree
Chip Skeetlark they could have done so much more in a high school and they could even bring in to days Problems into the show
bruuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh im like .. WHO. CARES. ABOUT. BLACK. LIGHTING. static bridges generations .. BL is an oldhead
If BL goes well, you can easily do a backdoor pilot for Static. Plus, Black Lightning needs some love
The Black Lighting tv show looks like it'll be like Luke Cage. At least I got those vibes when I saw the trailer.
Wait... This video seems to imply that Dwayne McDuffie is still alive. He died back in February of 2011 so he couldn't have posted on Facebook about this unless those posts were in 2010 or before.
Ryuuie Ryuu i know right scary..
Ryuuie Ryuu Hmmm boy became one with the soectre.
As a kid I watched every episode of static shock and still my favorite hero and was devastated when they discontinued it
People seem to be avoiding this issue: Milestone made a mistake by sharing their characters with DC.
Shh! Nobody is ready to wake up yet.
What we need is a Static Shock movie! like if you agree
Scribble Scrable played by donald glover
Chris Scott no he's too old
kylehasstyle138 Donald could play his dad tho
Quan wan they wanted Jaden smith at one point I'm glade that fell through he would have been a terrible static shock.

"DC to Relaunch Milestone Universe With 2018's 'Earth M'"
BENNY WAS RIGHT OMG!!!!
Best news I've heard all day. I need me some more Static, and if Icon's as quality as he is, then Earth M is gonna be AMAZING.
TangledLion Icon's background is deep.....but mostly a mystery. His history goes back hundreds of years. He was a slave at one point.....Very Interesting.
Wtf is earth m?
I'd buy a sewer lid if DC sold it as a test to the static shock fans, use Static DC!
Eric Hernandez same here
Hehe fantastic
Great I'm with you
I predict Static will be a main member of the team on Young Justice sn3. He was teased in sn2 and they already included Rocket and Icon.
He flat out name dropped himself at the end of sn2

Hi
Collins Ongaya I don't think they ever gave a date yet. WB is working on a streaming service akin to the WWE network (DCTV?!) and YJ sn3 will be exclusive to that. There will be a few Live Action shows as well.
Collins Ongaya 2018 they have done 5 episodes so far its going to be on DC Online Stream Service type channel.
Static is the hero of a generation!
He was so heartfelt and relatable,
he could give Spider-Man a run for his money!
new 52 Static run sucked, that's why it didn't sell. he's a great character and DC can get a lot out of him if they just put a good writer and artist on the book. hopefully we see more Static in the future.
stephen smiley
EXACTLY
stephen smiley new 52 static may have sucked; but why is everyone ignoring his original milestone run? is it because comic book shops refused to sell the books because they assumed white readers wouldn't be interested?
that still applies today. how many white readers does Blue Marvel have? his origin story is amazing. the Ultimates is another great book. white readers aren't reading.
I heard New 52 as a whole sucked. I didn't read a ton of it but of whats I did it wasn't very good.
I think Blue Marvel gets something of a pass, *because* he's a Marvel character and he's interacted with some big names. Therefore he got some good exposure. But a lot of white comic readers wouldn't have bothered with Milestone which was an up and coming 90s company that many dismissed as "black comics."
static shock was the best cartoon show growing up only black hero I like besides green lantern
newawesomefaceman 22 he's talking about John Stewart obviously how many green lanterns does earth have Hal John Guy and others

Static shock is being used in DC Universe Online. He is apart of the Teen Titans and is a bounty for villains to fight. That is the only use of him that I am aware of outside comics.
Oh shit, he's important enough to be hunted, at least
Edit: sorry to necro, didn't realize it was an old post lol

Scottish Asian I'm so glad there will be a season 3 for Young Justice so there is indeed hope for Static to shine
DC wants the rights to Static but the creator’s passion pride and work he put into it. He shouldn’t have to let that go without a decent deal.
I agree we need Static Shock and he put a Shock to your system
R.I.P. Dwayne McDuffie.
Fun fact Keegan Michael Key is the long lost brother of Dwayne McDuffie.
We need static shock
I always like Static Shock as the full hero name and not just Static.
I just want to say when I was growing up in the south Static Shock was a important black icon of mine.
That along with the X-Men, Green Lantern, and Batman Beyond made me more accepting of others even when I was surrounded by racists, bigots, and misogynists.
For real for real comics were really great for that
John Garrison hahs niggah
The south isn't full of racists, misogynists, & bigots... Perhaps u weren't saying that, but that's the implication. You just grew up in a bad place, no different than growing up in any other bad place. Personally, I enjoyed static, he was a nice break from the regular powers & batman being the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Me:YES YES YES THANK YOU BENNY HELL YEAH THANK YOU BENNY! now all we need is Shazam
TK Tyler they are making a movie so they will bring him back after the movie in rebirth the real question is where's booster gold he fixes timelines where the fuck is he at
TK Tyler Shazam is definitely gonna be in Rebirth. He was in the rebirth poster.
TK Tyler Right where's Martian Manhunter? Shazam. I guess Rebirth is focusing on certain characters. But we're gerting the reemergence of some like Zatana just popped up a few weeks back in Detective comics
Red Hood really? Well I'm reading his comics
TK Tyler were also still missing bart, kon, and cassie
Static Shock was a unique take on Superheroes. I was also a fan of Gear, his sidekick. I'd really love to see their own movie.
His origin sounds to similar to Martian Manhunter
thats because martian manhunter was the first attempt DC really made to have a black superhero giving that his human form is black
I want a static movie
no thin jaden smith will be awesome when it comes out in 2020
I was waiting for this like seriously they never use him
The case is same with Shazam and Booster Gold both of them have been barely or never seen in Rebirth. I am deeply disappointed, especially with Shazam because he was in every rebirth poster.
Gotta be be, gotta be, superhero, gotta be be, gotta be, superhero, gotta be be, gotta be, superhero, STATIC SHOCK!
It was a good cartoon back in the day
God damb I really hope static will come as dlc for injustice 2
I WANT HIM TO BE A MAIN DC PLAYER! ALSO WANT HIM IN INJUSTICE
I miss this character and the show. His appearance on Young Justice was a welcome surprise!
He was technically in Young Justice but they never used the name Static Shock. He was just a kid named Virgil who got electric powers.
NiteRoad87 Actually Bro it's just Static go back and watch it at the end he joins the team.
Dude literally says, 'Call me Static" in the finale.
Finally! Thank you so much for the update on Static!
Static Shock my favorite cartoon show as youngling.
I was saying Static would be a better fit than Aqua Lad but I do agree he needs his own solo series
he was in young justice
OreoBrawl
The only problem is what kind of Static storyline could sell well?
well IDK but with all the things going on in DC Rebirth with the Watchmen and the justice league I think they could make something up or even throw him in as a new hero that is finding his way, there are so many possibilities
honestly I figured DC would just buy milestone that way they'd own all there characters. So they could just use them whenever and wherever.
Xavier Triggs exactly
That would make sense. I mean they have bought companies and used less than 3 characters from them in the past.
Xavier Triggs I doubt Milestone would just sell their company to DC. They seem like the kind of company that would be opposed to "selling-out."
What happened to him? His creator died.
A black visionary who too care with their characters such as as the topics of racism, classism, gun control etc
Then DC got their hands on static and put him in the background of young justice and that's all we'll ever see sadly.
Dc did that on purpose. When something threatens corps. They buy it to kill it
this is one of the many examples why we cannot have what we wanted in 2 words corporate greed
Agreed. We need Milestone to fork over the rights FULL. STOP.
TripJay21
They made more than enough money off the tv series to recoup it's cost and and MAKE a profit.
They want the tv shows to just advertise and popularize the toy merchandise. That's literally why Teen titans was canceled. Not enough Toy Sales
SUPAH HEROO, STATIC SHOCK!
WOO WOO!!!!!!!
criminals, get twisted! dis supa hero gifted!
Bell rings, back in school, nobody know what I do ok!
Dwayne McDuffie a pioneer...static shock an amazing show, ended too soon...
To me it sounds like D.C. Is playing hardball and wants the actual Static character.
Wasnt he in the young justice cartoon
Highmanity - Yep. They introduced all those "affirmative action heroes", as I call them, from the Super Friends (Black Vulcan, Samurai, Apache Chief and El Dorado), but as kidnapped teenagers, with Static being introduced as that universe's Black Vulcan.
Omar Harris Bahaha! Love that you called them that. "Affirmative Action Heroes"
Much like with the Ultraverse, great memories, but it seems to be all we're gonna get
Are you planning to do a complete story line on Static's milestone comic years.
He is probably one of the dlc silhouettes. One of them looks like his outline in my opinion.
Thx for making this video and sharing it here !
I love Static Shock that was a cool show.
he is one of my favorite characters, I use to love watching his tv show, hope it comes back!
D.C. and Marvel could even crossover with Spiderman and make them buds! They'd be . great!
I want this so bad, even if its not canon, a really good fanfic would do.
D.C. and marvel crossing paths again will probably never happen. Well at least in the Disney era.
Wait why haven’t you guys talked about young justice?? Static is clearly in the show as well as Icon. A season 3 was finally announced after a long hiatus and I’m sure he’s gonna play a huge role in the show.
Shark S He's a main on the new team
You're really going to see him in season 3
Man can't wait!
Yeah, and we see how they did Young Justice, right?
I loved watching this as a kid after school on Kids WB!
It would be nice to see him again!
Lesson from this
Never sell rights to another company make your own name
Static is literally my favorite superhero. He needs to come back.
I miss static. 😢
Screw you, DC!
Static is an awesome character.
