Great tips here, and the A-4E is a fun little free mod. I also agree on the need to practice on a range.
For the longest time I couldn't accurately hit targets using numbers that other people recommended for depression/dive/speed etc. So I just loaded up my Skyhawk with unlimited weapons and just kept trying combos until I found one that worked for me. One thing I want to point about manual bombing is it's just like rifle marksmanship. You need a stable firing platform and you have to get all your parameters the same for every shot unless you enjoy missing the target.
Make sure you're using the same dive angle/altitudes etc each pass, aim for zero change in azimuth during the dive, minimize any Gs you pull during weapons release because this affects the angle of your bomb drop. When you're diving on the target you want to get your sight just in front of the target and have it slowly drift up onto the target right at your intended release altitude.
Getting that all right takes practice though. But once you get it right you can reasonably expect to destroy a structure or a lightly armored vehicle with a single Mark 82. That's pretty awesome for such an old airframe.

Sidekick, I've really enjoyed your focus on the A-4. She's one of my all-time favorites from my favorite generation of combat jets. I would love to get my hands on your missions if you decide to share them. Even if they are rough, they look like fun. Thanks for the videos, sir.

Thanks for the support. It really helps to have feedback. The missions are coming along. Hope to have something out by the weekend. I just dont want to put something out that I'm not happy with and that ends up being a distraction because it doesn't work the way it should. I hope that makes sense.

Great video mate, thank you. A-4 is up there with my favourite DCS modules. It's strange as I also have the F-5, but I never connected with that the same way I do with the Scooter.

Interestingl. I haven't tried the F-5. I think the thing, for me, is that the A-4 has such a much more extensive combat history. I hadn't realized until I started reading up on it - just how many thousands of sorties it flew over Vietnam. Not so many of the more modern jets in DCS have the same operational history.

great breakdown and neat to think about in terms of mission design. i really do think those aerial photo simulations help a ton!

AWESOME! I just asked you in the "Rockets" video if you've considered doing tutorials for the A-4. I suppose this could be considered a tutorial of sorts, so disregard that question. Thanks again!

I enjoy your videos because I like good DCS content, especially when it's showcasing amazing free stuff.
Keep up the great work. Have you considered making your own tutorials? Like real pilots, sometimes it's nice to hear other suggestions or easier way of doing things.

Thanks. I think there really are enough straight up tutorials out there and some of them are very good. I was hoping to provide more of an "On The Job Training" approach by actually flying the aircraft and doing "real" things with it. Hard to decide how to find a balance between explaining things and making interesting videos. I'll keep working on it

Kind of a random question but is the JATO firing button really how the A4 released countermeasures? I thought JATO was something else (Jet Assisted Take-Off or something like that..which I think the A4 had but I don't know if it's modeled in DCS)...anyone care to untangle my confusion? haha

I don't know if anyone has similar problems, but when using my Thrustmaster Warthog Throttle it won't let me set up my controls. It just doesnt detect my pressed buttons at all. In any other plane, that is not problem, its only in the skyhawk. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

    • @Sidekick65

You may need to delete your old binding files and rebind things. The folks at the A-4 Discord channel should be able to help you out. discord.gg/Qrt62rkGQx
