One of the most interesting features of the EFM for the A-4E is the CP-741 bombing computer. Using the computer takes iron bombing in the scooter to a whole new level. In this mission we so some simple dive bombing on the Iron Bombing Test range using the A-4E and the CP-741.
The EFM for the A-4E is currently in Apha testing. There was public test event on 24 October but the test is closed at the time of the release of this video.

Hi Iain your video series are awesome. I have some problem using the bombing computer on A4E. I followed all your spes in the setup but i never saw the online popup on the pit and the indication for to release the bombs

thank you for some good video. What is the practical difference between LABS and cmptr?
The in the released version of The A-4E for DCS, the LABS system is not implemented - only the bombing computer - and it has it's own switch position now. In real life the LABS (Low Altitude Bombing System) was a system that was developed to allow US fighter bombers to deliver nuclear warheads from low altitude. The pilot would perform a high G pull up maneuver Over the target and toss the bomb to high altitude providing enough time for him to egress the area before the blast. That was the theory anyway! As I said, it's not implemented in the game. At the time of the release of this video the developers were still using the LABS setting on the dial because the had not had a chance to redo the switch to add the CMPTR. That has since been done so you no longer use the LABS setting.
@@Sidekick65 thank you. the tutorials on line show that LABS needs to be selected but since i am using the v 2.0, i was quite frustrated by the fact it didnt work. i tried 'cmptr' and discovered that worked but then did not know why they kept the LABS on the dial. Any way, how can i make that LABS sound lower? It is annoying.

That one is filmed on the Persian Gulf Map. It was a mission that I made specifically for range practice. There is a newer version that I now use that uses the Caucasus map. You can pick up the mission files on my Discord server.

There's an issue with the rangescript in the file. The latest release of DCS broke the script. I have newer version with a work-around that you can download if you come to my discord channel discord.gg/DB4CQcc92u
Thank you very much for this very helpfull Video. Very nice for me as a student. Maybe I know why not all yor bombs hit the target. Look at 2:36, there is a little a little interval :-) With zero, I think, all are hits. Excuse my bad english. Stay healthy!

A lot like auto release in F-86, though I was more accurate in F-86 with using the force, or in other words, Kentucky windage :p.
I am just starting to experiment with the F-86. I will look forward to comparing them.
After many years of not using it, and even many months of not even doing DCS, I've tried it last evening on F-86, and couldn't get them to release for the life of me lol. At least I was right on target when I switched to manual release :p

Does the computer know the flight characteristics of any store or is it hard wired to slick bombs? Can it be ussed with dispensers?
It's for slicks only. It just so happens it works with MK-20's too.

No, that's probably just an artifact that the switch on my HOTAS Puts it in standby automatically and I forgot to turn it off. 😅
I cant seem to get the bombing computer to work. Not sure what I'm doing wrong?
Radar set to A/G, Selector set to LABS, stations armed as normal.
When I make a run and pickle/hold, nothing happens.
Any ideas?

What's the name of that bombing range mission or mod you are using? Is it publicly available?
There's an old version of the ED User Files site- www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3312663/
But it needs an update to the Range Script file to work properly.
There is a newer version on my Discord Server (link in description) that will work with at least some iron bombs. There are also template files there so you can build your own bombing range.
