When Inside Out first premiered in 2015, viewers were thrilled with how an animated film discussed complex issues, emotions, and how hard growing up can be. The story included numerous messages about how all emotions have a purpose and that even negative ones, like sadness, should have a place when making decisions and processing changes in life. At the time, there weren’t many children’s films discussing the difficulties of growing up, especially the impact it causes emotionally. To this day, people still reference Inside Out for its commentary on mental health. Recently, the trailer for Inside Out 2 premiered, introducing four new emotions into Riley’s life that will significantly change how she interacts with the world. In today’s video, we’re using evidence from the trailer to determine how these new emotions could overpower Riley’s core emotions.

The way Anxiety said that her job is to "plan for the future" is soo accurate realistically, always trying to predict future situations at the expense of wasting time in present reality.
Anxiety is definitely the antagonist because she wants control over Riley and insists on bottling up the core emotions. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear are needed.
Sounds like Joy trying to suppress Sadness in the original. Her intentions may still be good.
Probably... but that's what anxiety can do in real life... it's surpassed your other emotions!
I think it was because Joy wasn't allowing her to do her job. People need anxiety to regulate themself and make more complex decisions. but since she isn't working with her she is working against her. and when you work against your anxiety and suppress it then it can get out of control. She also has Ennui. There is something making her lose interest in things she loves and become despaired. if they get out of control they can develop into an anxiety disorder or depression. most likely Joy pushed anxiety away too much and because of that Riley is going to make a bunch of embarrassing mistakes that might make her look bad. She will probably also feel sad and guilty. So in the eyes of Anxiety Joy and sadness are a problem. Also, disgust because she might make Riley hate her body changes.

The fact that Anxiety is the villain and tries to take control and get rid of other emotions is so accurate. That’s my anxiety right there. 😂 Also the line "Suppressed emotions" kill me, did they get a psychologist to work on this movie?

What if Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment and Ennui try so hard to make the new Riley that they immediately start to realize they royally messed up and they need Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear to help turn this thing around?

My headcanon for Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment is that they are feelings, not emotions. Emotions are natural to us since we get them from birth, while feelings develop naturally as we grow up.
Which is why maybe they will end up not living in headquarters but in thier own area supporting the main emotions
which would be the reason why we don't see them in the adults and stuff

"Riley's life requires more sophisticated emotions than all of you," says Anxiety speaking to Joy. That was a crazy bar if I ever heard one. I feel growing up made it harder to just be joyous/happy with nothing else.

When I first watched the teaser I never expected Anxiety to be the villain but the next trailer gave it away. Good job Pixar for returning to the same old problem of twist villains
I feel that Joy can help out Anxiety to help her out with new emotion to help to use Anxiety more healthier and to see how she can train her without being to explosive and to see how she can learn how to be herself with training Anxiety to use her emotions wisely. And same for the other new emotions to they all need to be trained in how to use there emotions wisely.

All of the emotions have some purposes, so neither of them are evil
Yes everyone faces anxiousness but not everyone has anxiety disorders. Same with everyone fsced sadness but not everyone has depression disorders.
In the sequel of inside out my theory is that because the new emotions Envy, Ennui, Anxiety and Embarrassment that bottled up Joy sadness fear anger and disgust much later on, the 4 new emotions might soon realize that they made a big mistake keeping them held captive in a jar like that and make things right by returning the original 5 back to headquarters back where they belong and undo the mess they caused which is my theory I know the emotion Joy was able to find peace with sadness and also bing bong Joy can try to show the new emotions that they can't just replace them just because they believe Riley should be under their control when they should all be working together in full synergy just like how joy and the other emotions are on the console in headquarters in Riley's mind, I know that emotion Joy will whip up a miracle, you'll see when it launches in June this year. It can also be noticed in the trailer where anxiety is on the panel that she seems overwhelmed handling the controls and is doing too much at once maybe it's because you need multiple emotions and feelings to help
I actually had a theory regarding the same thing I didn't believe that the new emotions would be the villains of this movie but after seeing the second trailer I'm starting to think that my theory is finally catching up also there is one emotion that I personally wanted to see I wanted to see love because love is a common emotion that some teenage girls have

I also think Anxiety will be the villain, here is the reason: every emotion have two sides, joy will keep you in a good mood, sadness will make you cry but also make you feel better after that, fear makes you afraid but also keeps you safe, disgust make you recognize you stuff you like and hate, and anger helps you to express your feeling to let people know when things are unfair to you, if we get rid of any of these emotions, we won’t be normal. However, there is nothing good with anxiety, it will always make things worse, you can live with no anxiety. Unfortunately, most people have anxiety, it’s very lucky to live without it 😢

Here's a thought: All of Riley's mom and dad's emotions are the right gender. All dad's are male all mom's are female. But Riley's are mixed. Why is that?
Because Riley's emotions are the main characters & they represent the traits Riley got from each parent.
She has her mom's Joy, Sadness, and Disgust; while she has her dad's Anger & Fear.

It's believed that a person's brain isn't fully developed till early or mid-20s l. Maybe that's when the emotions take on the gender that the person identifies as?
I think that's just a storywriting technique used to appeal to a larger audience, and make the characters more unique and interesting. Since her parents are side characters, that doesn't apply as much.

I think what is going to happen is without Joy and the other emotions Riley is going to be off balance. and if they can't get back in time riley can develop an anxiety disorder and depression. because she has unregulated Ennui and anxiety. So she lacks joy, has no interest, is in despair, and is anxious. so people actually need anxiety to balance them and keep them productive. but Joy was not allowing her to do her job. So she might feel she needs to take control to protect herself from making more mistakes. anxiety needs to be balanced and work with an emotion that keeps her calm. I think that would be joy and possibly sadness.
