    On that e-CVT transmission. This is my understanding, so I apologise if I don't get all the technical details correct. It is not a CVT as we commonly know it. As explained by Honda Technical Advisor (Kotaro Yamamoto) the civic hybrid does not actually have a "gearbox". There is no mechanical changing of ratios, as is the case of a CVT gearbox. The Continuously Variable refers to continuously variable available torque by electronic modulation of amperage being sent to the two electric motors. That is why it appears to be "always in the right gear ratio" (remember, no gearbox, no mechanical ratios) and hence the immediate availability of torque. The electric motors aren't really "in the background" they appear to be working in the foreground for that torque delivery. Still think Honda could have come up with a less confusing transmission name than e-CVT.

    Ok ok ok...we've already heard from overseas reviews of this car, that you can't manually select EV only or Petrol only.
    You've driven it in Australia now. "Around town" ev mode "Highway" petrol engine kicks in. But at what speeds? AU speeds? Around town you mean in 30/40/60/70 kmh limits? Or how about 80kmh? At 90/100/110kph the petrol motor kicks in?

    • @shivamarya5225
      @shivamarya5225 Рік тому

      It can go upto 110km/h using motors only as long as battery remains charged But engine will turn on at even 30kmph if bettery needs to be charged. It has an ev mode and you can drive select it but it'll drive on electric if battery is charged. Check Autogefuhl's review

    • @dsub1994
      @dsub1994 Рік тому

      It'll use the electric motor until it can't use them anymore, or you go above 110km/h roughly, so in short it'll just go until you're out of juice. Ev mode is pointless for a car like this except to creep quietly around a carpark, but the car is already super quiet and will do that kind of driving in EV mode by default anyway. Waste of a button to include it.

    • @Wilhem275
      @Wilhem275 Рік тому +2

      @@dsub1994 To be precise, the traction motor can pull the car on its own from 0 to top speed. It's designed just like any BEV. The only difference is the source of energy, as you said it will eventually run out of battery.
      Parallel hybrid mode can be engaged at constant speeds between ~70 and 140 km/h, but that's done only because direct drive happens to be more efficient to cruise. In fact, in full acceleration, the electric motor will be again the one doing 100% of the work, at any given speed.

    After honda screwed me, will NEVER come close to it. In fact, honda effectively ceased being Honda when the Old Man died (1999?). Now it's just yet another ford but with previous glory.
    My last honda was a 1998 Civic that I sold a couple of years ago. It was the last good batch but with at least one REALLY weird "feature" - it had the charging warning indicator light on the same fuse as the alternator charging circuit so if (in my case - WHEN) the fuse blows, the very same warning light that is supposed to inform you about malfunction renders inoperative. What kind of moron would do that?!?
    But that's not the main event that removed honda from my verizon.
    Conclusion: TOYOTA ALL THE WAY!
