- Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 is a masterpiece and is absolutely the best of the older versions of Minecraft. Today, I looked at beta Minecraft 1.7.3 and explored the old terrain generator in beta, the limited blocks, and the nostalgia that minecraft beta does so well.

We've become so technologically advanced that we don't use our creativity to its full advantage; Nearly anything nowadays can be done with lesser effort than ever before. Modern-day Minecraft reflects this. With so many blocks, items and features, you don't have to worry as much to find the *right* block for your build. On the other hand, Beta's minimal amount of items encourages players to drive our imagination and lay the foundation for what makes Minecraft a truly remarkable game.

Well said. I play Minecraft since BETA 1.0 and must say that the early versions will always remain my favourite. The game set you no goals back then, so you did that yourself and automatically engaged creatively
Completely agree with maximizing efficiency. In the back of my mind I’m always thinking that there’s a faster way to do this, but by the time I do maximize the efficiency, I find that there’s no need to spend time building something for decoration as it doesn’t matter in terms of efficiency
I feel the same way about this! Beta forces a lot more creativity and it makes finishing a project feel incredible. Sure, the builds aren’t some giant scale but I feel better finishing a project and doing them because I get started on actually DOING those things…rather than getting the good gear needed to do it and THEN making the thing. It’s equivalent to every time I paint a picture I have to make paint brushes, paint, and the canvas before I start.
There’s always something to appreciate in old Minecraft, especially Beta. It has that charm that you can’t quite capture in modern Minecraft. I’m glad we’re able to go back to the old versions and play them like we’re kids again. Just proves how timeless Minecraft really is.
Ive had the feeling that i cant start something in MC because i didnt grind enough and it burned me out before i had fun
But recently me and my freind that never really built before spent two months building a city in survival before we even got diamond armor.
And it was easily the most fun ive ever had

I think an understated part of this topic is the minecraft youtube scene. And how it has a heavy subconcious influence on how we play modern minecraft.
How we think the game should be played, the goal, the progression, is what other people think and do in videos.
And we feel this narrow mindedness and social pressure to do as others have, following the herd. But this pressure we feel is mostly in ourselves and not as much in the game. Though modern minecraft I admit has a more of an exploring and progression focus than beta minecraft. The game has changed, but how we think and feel we should play still heavily affects our perception of the game.
Imagine playing modern minecraft as a new player, blind. And has never seen anything about it on youtube or anywhere else.
Damn, I haven’t played Beta in a long time and am kinda scared I’ll just have little to do, but even if that is the case that doesn’t change how good this video is. A short but very informative insight into an opinion or idea that just sounds so good. I became really nostalgic seeing this too. Thanks for making the vid

The new versions of minecraft are much too complicated. I grew up fasinated with building, redstone, and command blocks. But every time I want to make something amazing, another improved, and faster method of doing it appears, and then I just find myself waiting for the next improved method, because every time I begin creating something cool, I'll have to update it sooner or later. I'm grateful to all the new map making tools, but it gets overwhelming at times.
Yeah, the average modern play style, at least online, is to get good gear fast, beat the game, and then go crazy building and setting up farms. It’s a bit more grind intensive, while in Beta there are no goals besides surviving, and the smaller but flexible block pallet meant that preparing for small building projects was easier. It was much more chill.
0:09 - you are technically correct that the footage itself is recorded in Pre release 1.0, but that map itself was made on beta 1.7. The only reason it isnt vibrant is because it wasnt in a biome with bright colours after the update messed with beta world biomes.
Something about the oversaturated colors and the almost very limited forest landscapes in the world generation is what makes beta feel so dreamy for me
I've always preferred the limited block pallet that comes with beta, mostly because I feel it means no block has a chance of being unused. Every beta world I see uses every block they possibly can, like, how often do people use the plank and sandstone combination in modern MC? How often do you even SEE people use sandstone anymore? I also feel that MC now has too many blocks that are similar in color, which in turn makes a lot of modern builds seem super dull and monotone imo. Playing beta has me using bricks, sandstone, WOOL on buildings, etc. My world feels so much more lively than the worlds I have on modern MC versions because there's so little variation to the point that it *adds* variation.
There's more I could say about beta in general but I will end up leaving a comment that's 3 pages long so I am going to refrain but this is something I talk about all the time. I love beta.

Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 is a different game than Modern Minecraft. A completely different game.
Tubers want efficiency so they do netherrite and enchantment, etc. But even beta houses are influenced by youtubers since minecraft was brought to popularity by youtube
You cant know what people are thinking when they write something. Its an extensive infinite sandbox whatever version you play. No one can tell you what you can or cannot do, if you want to play modded pokémon game, so be it. If you want play alpha pocket edition, so be it. If you want to build a giant pyramid for no reason, it really does not matter.
Pump more content about beta, please. It's a good moment to bring some of its popularity back!

One of the videos I was watching, you know the humour was just so legit and just as then MC decided to play mice on Venus on the background. I feel like to just go to the floor and cry but it's so pointless I just don't even know anymore man.
Beta is the best version of Minecraft period.
As much as I think beta is good, personally I think 1.0 is the best, I like the hunger bar, potions, enchanting, it felt like a fantasy, and the structures were very rare and pretty interesting, and because of that, they don’t interfere with the freedom of minecraft, my vision of minecraft is more like a medieval fantasy game with blocks, that is probably why i think 1.0 is good, personally i have been trying beta, but maybe i am just a zoomer, but i get bored after an hour, when i play modern minecraft, it feels thrilling, but also very overwhelming, microsoft’s influence can be clearly seen, there is so much to do but i feel bored, a little too overwhelmed, so normally i only play 1.20 for smps.
ngl the last version of minecraft that i can play is 1.13, the last actually update that is “fun”, the newer updates are good, it’s just they changed too much so i get overwhelmed, such as the nether update changing everything about the nether’s theme, no longer is it a plain boring red land with lava and pigmen, now it’s a whole new separate world, it’s fun to explore, but at the same time, doesn’t fit the nether, and netherite does not fit with minecraft in my opinion, so seeing it be added made minecraft feel more confusing

Amazing editting, but I disagree completely. Minecraft is not a game, and Modern Minecraft is also not a game, there are no solid objectives and there's nothing to actually do in Minecraft. Minecraft is quite literally a game that will never be finished, if it was, they would stop updating it. Beta sucks because all your builds and houses are whatever, I garruntee it's just made out of wood. Theres nothing to do in Beta, so I get bored very easily and quit after a few minutes. The mobs are actually balanced though and are fun to fight. But still, Minecraft is a very flawed game and I'm tired of pretending that it's not, because nothing in the game tells you what to do, or how to craft things, or where to go, I just feel lost and isolated in an empty world.
Beta's terrain generation is god awful it's just the exact same thing over and over again, making my worlds feel empty as hell, just some small wooden house in the middle of nowhere. Atleast the newer versions give you more building blocks and people build megabases that you can look at and actually say "this is MY world." but I unfortunately cannot say the same about my small shack in the woods. Nostalgia blinds people, but ultimately, what it's made me realize is that Minecraft in general is just a really bad game, there is no story, no goal, no objectives, you can hardly even call it a game, it's more like a software toy or an architecture tool if anything. My average playthrough of Minecraft is just, find tree, get wood, mine, get diamond, build house and quit. To this day, I have never beaten the ender dragon, and there simply is no reason to do so, your reward for beating him is literally a screen that practically just goes "congratulations u won"
There is no fun game loop in Minecraft, Singleplayer is boring without friends, the game is going to get bloated and updated to oblivion to the point where it is near unrecognizable from Beta and theres just gonna be so much stuff that doesn't fit in the game at all, I mean even now it just feels like they're straight up adding creatures that belong in a Mo Mobs mod and not in the actual game. There is no fun progression either.

The nostalgia point is kinda trash though, poeple dont play beta just for the nostalgia (for the most part), beta/alpha and modern MC are practically different games at this point
Oh, and if you feel like all the recent mobs are from mods, its likely because they usually have one hyper specific purpose, are hard to find/you have to go out of your way to get them to do their thing and alongside being pretty shallow they only staple "content" onto the game and rarely if ever expand on existing stuff
If anything, terraria is all the same, and minecraft is meant to be a sandbox game that's why nothing is there
I personally feel the same way. I used to play on the old pocket edition versions, when I was playing on those worlds I needed to just use my imagination and build whatever I wanted to. And to this day those worlds were the worlds that I had the most fun in.

I'm going to give my opinion here.
I think that what makes Older Minecraft so different from the New one.
Isn't the overload of content.
Because let's be honest, we were all exited everytime new content dropped in those older versions too.
And re-playing older versions with mods that overbloat the game with so many things.
It also doesn't feel overwhealming, in fact, it encourages me to explore and get creative.
But what changed then?
What makes modern Minecraft so different?
It's not that the world is overbloated.
It's that it doesn't oppose you anymore.
The problem isn't a new Ore or a new Mechanic.
Is that there's really nothing stopping you from getting that in just a few hours or minutes.
Old Minecraft feels this way because everything was against you.
You couldn't even run, so even the controls were a challenge.
You broke blocks slowly, etc.
Survival doesn't feel like survival at all.
It's just a slightly more inconvenient creative mode.
I think what they should do, is make things so the world opposes you more.
For example.
Swimming.
Swimming is broken, you get full access to the water, and you can easily outrun a Boat with Dolphins
Making boats and other methods useless.
And that wouldn't be a problem... If you couldn't just do it like nothing.
Give it a bit of a challenge.
Make it so, for example.
You cannot see underwater, just barely see some stuff up close and the rest has a blue mist filter, and you have to use glass and other materials to make Water Goggles to see underwater a lot better.
Maybe the swimming speed is reduced a lot.
And you have to craft some special boots for swimming faster.
Now you have to MINE and CRAFT in SURVIVAL mode.
Now add into the mix more hostile mobs, variants, new mechanics.
But make it so in SURVIVAL mode.
The world is against you, and you have to Mine and Craft to Survive.
And side note.
If you think that would be too hard for children.
Well, there's different levels of difficulty for a reason.
Give those levels something more than just spawn rates and +life/+damage.
Make it so children can also enjoy things.
While not excluding others.
Hell
You know how that would benefit speedrunning content?
All the stuff that could come from that?
Everyone will be satisfied.
But that's my take

yeah this video was definitely shorter than i wanted it to be, I want to start making videos that are a bit longer (8-12 minutes), but im not sure when I will start aiming for that

not to mention, mods like "better than adventure" and "new frontier craft" for example are basically forking minecraft from beta 1.7.3, and could very well become the community alternatives to now microsoft's minecraft, and i cant lie, these versions of the game are super fun to play, its basically if the minecraft devs had continued as normal, but instead of what we have now, we have something that is new, but a lot closer to the original idea minecraft had, which is super exciting to me, its nice to know this game has been saved like so many others i love have
