Many users have reported similar experiences with UA-cam, where comments or accounts seem to be restricted without a clear explanation. UA-cam does deny the existence of shadowbanning, but from many user reports, it seems that there are automated systems in place that result in comment suppression or hidden content, even if they don’t officially call it shadowbanning.

I totally agree with this, I may not be the best at idea's and small but I will never sell out to UA-cam, I know it sounds fake but I do it for fun and the memory's with yall not the add revenue

I see nigahiga I click. But honestly this video was really interesting and really got me thinking about the stuff I watch on UA-cam.

Gonna go on a bit of a Nerdy rant haha, so prepare yourself when reading this unnecessarily long paragraph XD! Wish UA-cam was still more creatively driven. Sure not every video was creative or original back when it started, i mean it was pretty much just a hard drive for people to store their videos which is how we got a lot of iconic memes. But what i mean is that, UA-cam should promote content that's actually content. Reaction Channels should be removed cause they add nothing and are literally just sitting and watching other people's stuff. Commentary channels should migrate on a different platform, or heck, why not delete their videos also entirely. They just talk about Unimportant drama and have some gameplay of Counter Strike. Content Farms should've never existed. Same with Mr Beast clones. Some UA-camrs that do these stuff (minus the Mr beast and content farm stuff) Can be really good. Like for Reaction stuff, People like Vinesauce Joel manage to make it entraining cause Joel is like, a character in a sense, it doesn't feel like I'm watching a boring nobody, i might as well be watching SpongeBob's reaction for all I know XD And also Reaction videos aren't the only thing he does, he adds some variety and does his own stuff. (Like the Windows Virus Destruction series!) It's a Similar situation with Penguinz0, he may not have the most editing but he's so chill and actually does Research when talking about drama, even if i personally couldn't care less about whatever drama, but he also does other stuff and that's why he's entertaining. But then again these folks are just an exception, everyone else just SUCKS. on the bright side, at least tye creative side of UA-cam isn't completely gone, it's just not as popular as it use to be, but oh well, it ain't the end of the world, things will change eventually, and i hope it'll be for the best!

I believe people don’t actually sit and just allow themselves to be bored, not having something constantly fed to them to pass the time. It doesn’t allow people to explore nor ponder the thoughts that lie within themselves. A lot of media that’s pushed out to the public also doesn’t invoke the emotions or spark and ignite that passion and creativity. Everything is instantaneous and if not there’s no need for attention to be set forth upon..

And I know I commented earlier, and generally I think this video makes some good points in how we consume content and the culture around creating it. But I think it's an overly cynical read on things. UA-cam, in the beginning at least, was made to broadcast yourself, that was the tagline. And that, even after all this time, is something people still do. A majority of people who make videos, probably want to get paid for doing so and grow their channel, but also do it because they want to make videos. Because they're passionate about a specific subject or want to inform people on this or that, and by the by, most of this isn't presented in a wholly NEW way, a majority of videos, aren't pushing the boundaries with what they can create. But I think you underestimate the amount of people who genuinely care about what they create, and it isn't entirely your fault, the algorithm isn't built to specifically show that. Not everybody are going to fully see UA-cam as a worthwhile hobby to put months upon months into with no return, they may make a few videos they want and nothing more, they may just use their channel for a specific purpose (like fan channels). But there are a lot of people who take UA-cam as a platform, and UA-camrs seriously. "The Mr. Beastification of UA-cam" isn't even a term you made. It was coined by someone else, who put together a script, recorded, edited, and put enough thought into the video for it to convince you of that. There are more than enough think pieces on internet consumption, the current state of UA-cam, and so on, and so forth. Which, while it can be motivated by views, shows that a lot of people justifiably care about the platform and online content creation. Y'know, something that people are taking seriously, and is being discussed.

"We don't even have a language to talk about videos" Uhm, no???? How hard is it to say something like "I liked this video on X subject. It was informative, the jokes were funny, the presentation and editing were all good and served the topic/point and the pacing was solid. Overall good video, got me to see things from a different perspective" I get that we don't talk about videos the same way we talk about other media, but the only people who wouldn't know how to describe their thoughts on a video any deeper than "I like it", don't really engage all that much with what they watch

As a youtuber struggling to become popular, I would definitely agree on this.

Good video but an important thing is that once you blow up you should remember that you started off small and there are still people doing the same. You used Steve jobs as an example of someone to act like and yeah in terms of believing in yourself that makes sense but Steve jobs was also a complete narcissist so don’t let it completely get to your head. Remember you are better than most but your capacity to be a narcissist is still there and you should still be careful.

Art on UA-cam is 'prohibited'(DMCA and IP ownership laws and the likes). On a technical level, even the most Original media piece on YT is either borrowed or outright stolen.... The baseline of Artistic Expressions on this site is.... Theft and Mass-production, and that's not that hard. Tbf, your desire for a richer experience on YT is valid. Just not at this point in time. Edit: The thumbnails should not include PewDiePie & Ryan Higa (they both moved on their YT career and do something else different now, and leaving them between MrBeast is.... )

Ps. Just because some people consume UA-cam videos as disposable fluff, doesn’t mean we all do. There are some incredible UA-cam creators who create video essays so profound and thoughtful that they could easily be their Masters Thesis. Others are creating fantastic series, shorts and fan films that could easily fit in on Netflix. I think you’re focusing on the lowest common denominator and making vast blanket statements.

I don’t see how UA-cam can do much more ‘changing’ wo losing what makes UA-cam so amazing and attractive to creators in the first place. I don’t think we should allow the bad actors to hurt the freedoms of solid creators. I believe the solution is to continue to hold bad actors accountable and educate people about situations before they get out of hand. The more creators hold other creators accountable, the less likely they will be to get away with it for an extended period of time. Whistleblowers are clutch, and should be supported and protected.

I feel like art appreciating on youtube is on the rise. video essays are indeed becoming more prominent. Intellectual quality essays, the script, are art and have got many views. Safe to say that brain rot content might not be the face of youtube

UA-cam is missing curation. Museums, film festivals, theaters, and TV channels all have people to choose what gets promoted or even produced in the first place I think there's an opportunity for channels to become curators of UA-cam content. Actively promoting what videos stand above - just like you did in the end credits, so thank you for that Traditional media like magazines and newspapers also lack critics who are willing to analyze and rate UA-cam videos. I thought it was a great step forward when the Atlantic critic David Sims included Jon Bois' 7-part UA-cam docu-series about the Minnesota Vikings as one of his top ten movies of 2023. (Above Barbie and The Holdovers!) A small shout out like that opens the door for more great videos to be seen by people who wouldn't otherwise be coming to UA-cam.

I feel it used to be easier to come across random fun and interesting things; the changes in the algorithm over the years have made and encouraged UA-cam to feel considerably more formulaic. The real biggest problem comes from the users also. If you want to stop the beastification of UA-cam you have to give small channels a chance and a click, else you are telling all the up and coming new channels that it is best to copy this strategy because it’s what works. A lot more of the power is in the hands of the viewers

Never agreed with a video more then THIS. I'm trying to make content myself and have my own specific thing but its never thought it would be that hard to do that. And then I begin to go back and forth in my brain thinking "just copy this guy and I'll be okay" but then going back to "this isn't original" its odd. although I still love creating regardless
