Thanks for the video. It's nice to see the face behind elite ammunition. I'm saving all my brass so I can eventually start reloading them. I'm pretty new to reloading so I'd like to reload a few hundred more 223, 243 and 30-06 cartridges before I jump into these little 5.7s. Before my father passed him and I were reloading (teaching me) and I mentioned that people say not to reload the 5.7 and he said the same thing..."bullsh!t, they dont know what they're talking about" I will definitely be following and supporting your company. Thanks
FYI I have reloaded the 5.7x28 and shoots great in my ruger 57 and I just tumbled my brass without using simple green. Used reloaded primers (22reloader content), hornady 22cal 40gr vmax, and accu 5 for powder. I used loadmaster press with lee dies with automatic bullet and brass feeder.
I just found this channel the day I bought my PS90 and am stoked; you've got a ton of information. I first saw your subsonic video which was perfect timing as I was looking at subsonic ammo (I don't want to blow my ears out). Now I know unless it's packed with the 10.5" barrel (apply for NFA, then buying a SBR barrel once approved) in mind.
Jay, You're the Man. I love my 5.7 (just bought it) I'm old and on a budget but I've worked on my own guns for over 40 years. I'm not stupid enough to try and tell anybody else what they should do but I just did some of the work you show in your videos and it made a HUGE difference on my gun. I just ordered the 20# spring and the short trigger and I'm hoping to install those soon, and THANK YOU and YOUR FAMILY fort helping to keep our country safe!
Hell ya! Im just getting in to the 5.7 platform and will be reloading it soon! Already heard the bullsh!t about how it cant be reloaded from some haters. Lol. Rock on brother! Subscribed.
Hey Jay, you've sold me on the 5.7 with your S4 ammo. Thank you for your dedication to this platform and providing us the absolute best handgun rounds that money can buy.
Not loaded near as much 5.7x28mm as Jay but I've loaded a couple 5 gallon buckets worth. I mark the brass and load it only three times before I convert it to 175gr soft point .308 bullets for my 300 Blackout rifles and pistols. I use True Blue and AA5 99% of the time now. Both are ball powders.
I would love to see a video of your conversion process, what a great idea for the old brass. I have been saving 22 mag cases for swaging one day as well.
I always calibrate my powder, but on precision loads, I weight the powder for every cartridge. That being said, I am talking about 20 loads or so. With this tight of tolerances, maybe you should weigh all the loads even if it a pain?
I would to at least verify your powder drop. Basically create a profile of how your powder measure works with the powder you are using. Static is a major issue. Most folks don't know this, the fine black dust in your gun powder it NOT gun powder. It's mostly graphite, used as a dry lube. Use spray graphite to coat the guts of your powder drop. I also have a ground wire on all my powder measures, even my electronic one. On the electronic one I still coat all internal parts with spray graphite and taped ground wire to powder tube. Also misting your whole work area with static guard clothing spray helps a great deal. What powder measure are you using?
Just bought hornady dies before watching this video. thank you for this video and sharing your knowledge. I love my pistol and PS90, just need to keep the cost down from blowing through so much ammo in the desert with my buddies.
Thank you, Jay. Great stuff, as usual. Couple of questions: 1) You've mentioned elsewhere about outsized tolerances on commercial 5.7 brass, citing it as one reason for making your own. Does that affect reloading? 2) The 3 M's, Manpower, Machines and Material, are what constrain production capacity. Which one(s) killed sales of your virgin brass? What would it take to increase one (or more) of the three to resume sales? Thanks again.
1) It was resized 1x brass due to die a manufacture changing the specs to it's resizing die. I used to recommend LEE but about 4 years ago they changed thier die spec increasing the angle of walls of the case. This cause rounds to cant in PS90/P90 magazines and casue jamming. This is why I no longer recommend LEE and why we only sell CH4D dies sets. They aren't cheap, but they are the best money can buy. More info here concerning the re sizing issue. www.fivesevenforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=14984
2) Nether it's all going into production right now. One bottle neck was T6B manufacturing. 22 seconds a bullet. A second Swiss machine with rod feeder has been added and has come online a month ago. This is also why in the past we have sold versions of my designed Trident bullets but we can't afford the machine to not be manufacturing T6B.
If I buy the cheap federal ammo and replaced the bullet with say a 32 grain HP, would the case need to be resized? I imagine it would in order to achieve a snug fit when inserting the new bullet.
Yes, in fact the delayed blowback recoil mechanism is almost identicle. FNH has a patent on it but I have to consider Ruger is paying a licensing fee to use it.
No it dos not hold up to the temp and pressures when the case is fired. I/EA worked out a deal with my supplier to put the correct mix into aerosol cans. This has the proper mix of industrial lacquer and solvent to work on the cases. ua-cam.com/video/cK0_Ktoplcc/v-deo.html

Great video Jay. I’m a EA ammo customer just getting into reloading. A good friend is teaching me the art & he strongly recommends RCBS equipment for when I setup my own bench. Is the press from RCBS & the dies they offer for 5.7 recommended in your opinion?
RCBS makes GREAT dies, I have around 15 to 20 sets of them including for my Weatherby 378. Their 5.7 dies suck shit. The best are CH4D, Second best Hornady. Now Hornady does not make a crimp die. CH4D cost a crap ton of money. For the budget aware folks get the 2 die Hornady set and the CH4D crimp die.
@@EliteAmmunition Thanks again Jay. Glad you are able to start offering some reloading supplies again & the case lacquer coating details was very informative. I’m a retired engineer myself (mechanical) & it’s great to hear from someone like yourself who cuts through the BS! What was the specific brand/formulation of powder you recommended for 5.7 reloading again? I’ll probably send you an email separately from this thread as more of my rookie questions come up. Keep up the good work & sending wishes from Texas that y’all have a peaceful & blessed Christmas!
@@tomreed3207 Accurate line 5,7,9 and TB. While other powders can work most of those are ball flake and have large flakes. Metering becomes an issue. This is why I like the ACC and TB line the most. God knows what is going to happen with TB though now that Hornady had bought out western and has already started dropping powders.
Yes, I was going to make a CD and basically give it away free just cover shipping etc. I then talked to my insurance and found out the insane increase in my insurance premium to provide laoding data to the public.
YES, the case needs the coating and CMMG designed their system around it also. You can get the brass to worked uncoated but you can't load it above about 13k psi vs the 50k psi standard pressure
All the dehydrators I know of including mine use heat. That wall still heat cycle the coating on the brass. Laying the brass out on a flat tray with fan blowing on it will work. I use a brand name BlueBlower to dry bullets when they come out of the wet tumbler.
It is required for it to operate in all blowback firearms that chamber the 5.7. Which is pretty much all of them. Yes all the brass has the coating in fact Federal does not load the AE, it is loaded by fiocchi alongside the SS197 blue tips and all arwe loaded on FNH brass manufactured in Belgium.
@@EliteAmmunition one more thing, Jay. I was going to pull some ss195lf, and was going to use a kinetic bullet puller. Is there some special method to pulling the bullets since FN is said to use glue on these rounds?
@@EliteAmmunition do they also glue the American Eagle 40gr fmj? If so, and once I get the ammo, is there a way I could have them sent to you for pulling? In exchange, we could work some sort of deal?

We looked into that awhile ago. The demand wasn't high enough to justify the investment to make one. With all the BS going on and folks needing and wanting more options I will re visit it.
@@EliteAmmunition Thanks. Do you happen to have any load data for 57 using blue dot with vmax 35 gr? I am just looking for a good safe starting point. So a lee loadmaster with the powder disks would not be a good idea to load 5.7 since .2 grains is a huge dump. I load 5 calibers on loadmaster no issues and .2 is usually my worst case scenario in over powder differences but .2 in them is no issue
Elite Ammunition, Jay Wolf that's what I figured. All I have is the lee disks, perfect powder measure, and a lee auto drum Really want to grab a ar57 upper for my sbr

@@davidrojas3717 While LEE 5.7 dies are shit a Lee classsic cast single stage press is one of the best money can buy anywhere. Those lacquers will start on fire at the temps the cases get to. They can't come close to the temp and pressure range they need to function . Just sayin.
@@dreed7312 A special hi temp type. Of course FNH does not make that information public. I sent out cases to a coating lab to have the coating analyzed. I then contracted that same company to make a version of it for me to use on my in house manufactured 5.7 brass.

Geeze I am not that wise, get me thinking I am up there with Paul Harrell or something. Caveat, just to clear, I have to say this, (said in my best Paul vioce)I am not comparing myself to him.
@@christiandehlinger3731 The issue is and Savage struggled with it. 5.7 is designed while under full pressure before the bullet has left the barrel to allow the case to grow. The unlocked blowback allows the shoulder to push against the head of the chamber. In doing so the pressure vessel IE the case expands. Now when you place this cartridge in a fixed and locked chamber, as an example the SS197, it goes from 41k psi to 120k psi. This is why conventional pressure barrels don't work with the 5.7. Bolt thrust is massive and can lock the bolt closed and when loosened ripping the head off the case.
@@EliteAmmunition I watched a reloading video where the guy was showing the how much the shoulder had moved forward and I did not understand. Interesting, the case is smaller than the chamber? I don't like the looks of the Savage model 25; is the gun of which you speak? Did that not get off the ground? Is this all due to a bottle necked case with very small case capacity? How much less than say .221 fireball? Thank you.
Some folks have tried. It's best NOT to remove the coating in the first place. IF you are asking about the coating because of it wearing off after multiple reloads it's not an issue since the should and primer pocket give out at about 5x to 7x. About the same time as the coating does.

@@EliteAmmunition
Thanks again Jay.
Ever think about making a 5.7x28 reloading manual
Yes, I was going to make a CD and basically give it away free just cover shipping etc. I then talked to my insurance and found out the insane increase in my insurance premium to provide laoding data to the public.
I can point you to well vetted loading data.
@@EliteAmmunition what if you sell it with a disclaimer?
@@gruntspy44 OH there would be 10 pages of disclaimers just like any other hand laoding manual. Still does not affect the cost of the insurance.
2 questions, is the shell coating important if I’m running it through an AR-15 platform and will my normal tumbler ruin the coating?
YES, the case needs the coating and CMMG designed their system around it also. You can get the brass to worked uncoated but you can't load it above about 13k psi vs the 50k psi standard pressure
Also you just don't need the tumbler. Plastic bucket and cheap walyworld plastic pasta strainer work great
Can you use dehydrator to dry?
All the dehydrators I know of including mine use heat. That wall still heat cycle the coating on the brass. Laying the brass out on a flat tray with fan blowing on it will work. I use a brand name BlueBlower to dry bullets when they come out of the wet tumbler.
@@EliteAmmunition thanks!
Is the laquer on the brass necessary for proper cycling of all guns, or just the FNH weapons? Does Federal brass have the laquer?
It is required for it to operate in all blowback firearms that chamber the 5.7. Which is pretty much all of them. Yes all the brass has the coating in fact Federal does not load the AE, it is loaded by fiocchi alongside the SS197 blue tips and all arwe loaded on FNH brass manufactured in Belgium.
@@EliteAmmunition one more thing, Jay. I was going to pull some ss195lf, and was going to use a kinetic bullet puller. Is there some special method to pulling the bullets since FN is said to use glue on these rounds?
@@calangel Yes, we use a proprietary method that I can't share.
@@EliteAmmunition do they also glue the American Eagle 40gr fmj? If so, and once I get the ammo, is there a way I could have them sent to you for pulling? In exchange, we could work some sort of deal?
@@calangel They are but not well. The very short shank of the bullet des not have enough arae to grip it very well. Conversely though the bullet is so light and glued just enough to make kinetic pulling a PIA. Send me an email so we can discuss this further. customerservice@eliteammunition.com
Omg...finally some legit info!
Jay.....you da man!
0:20 is why I came here
Hi
I bought a Hornady AP progressive reloading press.
does anyone know or have a custom plate so that the 5.7 x 28 can be reloaded on this press?
Awesome Awesome Thank you Sir fir the Info.
If anyone knows where I can locate a 5.7x28 shell plate for my Lee Loadmaster please lmk.... thanks
Hi Jay. Can you fix me up with a shell plate for 650 Dillon in 5.7x28? Love your energy.
We looked into that awhile ago. The demand wasn't high enough to justify the investment to make one. With all the BS going on and folks needing and wanting more options I will re visit it.
@@EliteAmmunition thank you sir.
I didn't know you sold a die set sweet! That will be my next order
Go nogo gage also
@@EliteAmmunition Do you have the link for the die set? I do not see it on your site. Thanks.
@@jheckert1 CH4D is currently giving me a 24 month delivery date before I see more die sets, so we hid them on our website.
@@EliteAmmunition Thank you, i ordered a set of Lee to try out. Appreciate the response.
@@EliteAmmunition Thanks. Do you happen to have any load data for 57 using blue dot with vmax 35 gr? I am just looking for a good safe starting point. From what I have found Case length should be trimmed to 1.13 and an OAL of 1.491" but nothing solid on the charge. I am estimating around 5.5gr to 6.0 gr.
Just went on your site, do you not have the dies or brass anymore?
Supply shortages. All brass is going to manufacturing. Die manufacture is set to to have dies back in stock soon.
So a lee loadmaster with the powder disks would not be a good idea to load 5.7 since .2 grains is a huge dump.
I load 5 calibers on loadmaster no issues and .2 is usually my worst case scenario in over powder differences but .2 in them is no issue
Target Time powder disk is a great system but not for the 5.7x28mm.
Elite Ammunition, Jay Wolf that's what I figured. All I have is the lee disks, perfect powder measure, and a lee auto drum
Really want to grab a ar57 upper for my sbr
Target Time stay away from the AR57 upper
It's pure shit.
Elite Ammunition, Jay Wolf damn. Thanks for tips. I'm not sure which I would rather have more the pistol or the ps90 then. I shot a five seven pistol a couple years back was pretty cool.
Target Time pistol has more diversity plus with our 7 inch barrel you can approach P90 velocities.
Great video! Thanks
hey Jay, where are you guys located? Honestly I would love to learn but the person who was teaching me passed before we ever got to reloading... that being said I wondered if paying for a class with you in person is an option? or maybe someone here is in California and is willing to teach me? Blessings!
Well we are on the IL/WI border DEEP in the heart of farm country. Otherwise sure. In fact I am a bit of a prepper and teaching guys how to do basic reloading and showing them what to get for loading of their carry guns is something love doing. Even if you don't plan on reloading full time, having a basic kit and supplies set aside in a sealed container is just common sense
@@EliteAmmunition first of all thank you for the reply Jay, and yes unfortunately I am a ways away but I will not give up on finding someone! That being said I will definitely be getting a reload kit as 5.7 here in Cali is crazily prized for the most basic type of ammo!
@@davidrojas3717 While LEE 5.7 dies are shit a Lee classsic cast single stage press is one of the best money can buy anywhere. Also LEE's handloading manual is a fun read, and a vast source of great information. Depending on how far you want to go, LEE has a classic cast kit. I has everything but the dies and consumable to get you started. LEE also makes a hand press, now this is the cats ass for preppers since you can fit all your reloading stuff in a small pouch on your
BOB.
@@EliteAmmunition thanks Jay I will definitely look into it!
Love your videos man
I have reload 5.7x28 2 time shoot good in my ps 90
10 million rounds of 5.7.....holy shit
Do you have a distributor in Canada?
Not at this time and we can't ship due to ITAR and Canadian import regulations.
Thanks, your videos are Very Informative.....
I just started to reload 5.7 today the only dies I could find around here are Hornady custom grade 5.7X28 dies and a lee shell holder. I am having problems with the shoulder denting and the rim getting pushed down into the shell holder primer pocket hole and getting stuck.Do I need better dies and shell holder.
Those dies should work. For a shell holder I prefer the Hornady. What case lube are you using?
I am using imperial case lube. I found if I take the expander ball out and resize then put the ball back in I can resize without crushing not sure why but that’s the only way I can make it work. I am lubing outside of case and inside of neck.
@@darrelldemoure5424 You might be using to much lube.
Jay Wolf Elite Ammunition I tried both ways with very little lube and lots of lube. Thanks for the reply. I will keep doing it taking the ball out and putting it back in after resize til I can get different died and she’ll holder.
@@darrelldemoure5424 Also might want to adjust the sizer die body up in half turn increments to see if it stops. Hard to diagnosis without seeing it happen.
do you offer the powder drop for the dillon 550?
5.7 is the same diameter as .223. You use Dillon funnel Type A and adjust down accordingly.
Lacquer for brass is commonly available in spray cans. It's used to finish everything from lamp fixtures to musical instruments. Just sayin' . . .
Those lacquers will start on fire at the temps the cases get to. They can't come close to the temp and pressure range they need to function . Just sayin.
@@EliteAmmunition so what can you use? What did the mfr use?
@@dreed7312 A special hi temp type. Of course FNH does not make that information public. I sent out cases to a coating lab to have the coating analyzed. I then contracted that same company to make a version of it for me to use on my in house manufactured 5.7 brass.
@@EliteAmmunition I wouldn't consider the cartridge otherwise. Without that technical ability its a design weakness/flaw that will cost the owner money and make him wholly dependent on commercial mfr.
@@dreed7312 Why? The coating is fine as long as YOU don't remove it. It will last as long as the case primer pocket and neck will.
So much info. Almost overwhelming
Don’t see anything available for reloading besides dies on your site. Do you offer projectiles?
We have Go/NoGo gauges, Dillon shell plates, RCBS trim pro plates also. Sometimes we have pulled projectiles. Most off the shelf .223 bullets under 50 grains will work fine for the 5.7. Any of the 40gr Ballistic tip bullets from Hornady, Nosler, Sierra, etc will work fine. Register at this forum and you will then be able to see the reloading section that has verified loading data for dozens of readily available bullets. www.fivesevenforum.com
Jay Wolf Elite Ammunition I thought you guys made projectiles for the 5.7... and brass?
@@MrNiceKnife All of our EA brass and EA projectiles are going to manufacturing due to demand for loaded ammunition.
Jay Wolf Elite Ammunition ok thanks for the reply, I’m in CA and unfortunately can’t buy ammo online anymore. Looking for loading supplies
@@MrNiceKnife Yep we sell a crap ton of dies, go/nogo and shell plates to CA. Check out the forum it has tons of info and you can always give me a call for help.

Geeze I am not that wise, get me thinking I am up there with Paul Harrell or something. Caveat, just to clear, I have to say this, (said in my best Paul vioce)I am not comparing myself to him.
Hi sir do u still own elite ammunition? My app is listing u as my closest ffl dealer and I would like to order a lower and get it delivered there
We are a 07FFL manufacturer and not open to the public. As such we don't perform transfers for the general public.
Can I get rid of the coating with solvent if I am shooting in a single shot rifle?
Brass may still stick in the chamber. Yes you can. Acetone works, even better old fashioned carb dip tank
@@EliteAmmunition Pushing Traditions, to do their little Crackshot with a 57 barrel, 16.5".
Thank you.
I just did some googling and it looks like 57 is a bit more than 1/2 of .221FB, which is a pretty small case!
P.S I'm a beginner at reloading
its a bitch to reload but its worth it
Hell yes Jay you’re fucking awesome channels kool
everybody i know reloads 5.7
Can you coat them yourself?
Some folks have tried. It's best NOT to remove the coating in the first place. IF you are asking about the coating because of it wearing off after multiple reloads it's not an issue since the should and primer pocket give out at about 5x to 7x. About the same time as the coating does.
Badass 🤟
So if you're only reloading for pistol, lacquer doesn't matter?
AlexCell33 no the lacquer matters in the pistol as well.
YES you still need it for proper extraction.
Yes the 5.7 is reloadable I have a Dillon ....machine their are other ways to process the brass the the loss of laqior.... it has been tested on you tube and it works with out laqior . I load at home....in a progressive machine.I have tested my own ammo.
