Love this game! P.s. dont just spam cyclone kick in this game, use every attack. Punches, kicks, throws, and cyclone. There is a whole list of combos you need to learn. Grab items as often as u can, they do way more damage. Get the instruction manual, or look up the controls online. You'll never beat it without the move list.
Literally no moves were used in the playing of this game lol. Ninja knee drop from wall bounce? Flying sword slash? Head throw enemies into a pit? Wow.
Also Chin can kill almost any basic enemy with his regular attack combo. Thematically I think is some sort of 3 fist kill or something coz the guy knows Kung Fu.
Utilizing the strengths of each character. The DDs have a great flying kick (which means they aren't just sitting in one spot), and with how precise the timing is for the spinkick, it's not always the best option to use; in 2P, it certainly is, because your teammate can partner up with you and turn it into the Double Cyclone Kick, which does MASSIVE damage; solo is another story. When you're 1v1, or they're trying to pincer you from above/below, sure, especially since it knocks back with one hit. Otherwise, since you can't move or react to enemy attacks, it's a bad choice. Chin has next to no kick potential, but his punching capabilities are insane, he hits INCREDIBLY hard, and he has high stamina, making him good for tanking out enemies that hit hard but terrible for fighting fast, weak enemies (ninja, for ex). Yagyu has incredibly long reach by default thanks to his ninja blade, good for countering enemies that fly at you without being hit yourself (like Ryu was fighting at the end), and has high *projectile* weapon count with low-decent damage; great for dealing with thin, linear areas, esp with pits.
@@shadster23 theres an exploit where you move up and down and it forces the enemies to walk up to you. they wont attack if you sidle up and down and dont jump. you can simply move up and down forcing enemies to walk up to confront you and so long as you keep attacking then moving up or down you can beat the game with little to no damage in most levels.
I'm bad at this game but my god this was unwatchable. Ryu is usually so good but he I couldn't even watch as he just never learned or even tried to learn. I had to turn the video off. "His move is so awkward" THERE"S MORE THAN ONE MOVE!
I'm from that era and even I think it's exceptionally ruthless even for the time period. 1 life and full game restart after death, whatta kick in the nuts!
What If? The worst part was saving up forever, waiting for the new release... then the game turns out to be about as much fun as a bag over the head, punch in the face. 😠
First Name Last Name Didnt that game have decoy clowns you could drop? If so that made me forgive everything else. Edit: did some digging and it indeed that game! (1993 snes & Genesis) I must reaquire it now! 😠😁
Random Someone haha yea! The clowns saved you from the zombies and the chainsaw man. They made such a weird sound. Like a mix between a duck and a robotic voice hehe. I ducking loved that game so much man. If Ryu did a series of it I would be the first to watch.
Even on NES standards the difficulty of this game is absolutely crushing. I guess they thought that having only one life would be a nice touch of realism, but I think they went bit over the top here. Still I gotta admit that this game describes pretty well what will happen to you if you march against hundreds of bruisers alone with only one trick up your sleeve: you will be ganged up on and your ass will be handed to you. Good luck beating this game on your stream, thanks for the fun! :)
I love this game . I used to play this game in my childhood . I usually get stuck at the last stage most of the time and with 1 life it is difficult but if was fun
Yes I am aware he streams them live. For those of us who can't watch live and don't want to spend hours digging through Twitch archives trying to figure out when he actually beat the game, he should make a 2nd follow up UA-cam video where he completes the game.
The game of childhood. I never had any problem with this move, because of gamepad with Turbo buttons. And it's not only move. Forward+A+B, A+B is also pretty helpful, for instance. And ninja is badass.
Great video series. It's just so interesting and well done. Keep it up. Interesting choice of game. I think it's slightly harder than the 2nd game. Though smart use of weapons, on the bosses really helps. Also when I beat the game, I don't use the cyclone kick much at all. I stick to standard kicks mostly and save billy's nunchucks for the bosses of each stage.
Man!.. I still have to beat this game! Chin's punch combo is op and if I remember right you'd want to hit with the sword and finish with a kick. I don't remember if the knee and upper cut are in this game but if they are those are both stronger than the cyclone kick and get up* moves as in getting off the floor (wake up moves sounds a lot better)*. Very useful.
Nope, the knee and uppercut got cut between the second and third games. You're right about Chin's punches being strong, though. If you're unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of them when fighting him in Level 2, you can easily lose 4 bars of health in the blink of an eye. EDIT: I'm talking about the flying knee and power uppercut you can do out of a crouch in Double Dragon 2. Those aren't in this game, although Billy and Jimmy can still knee enemies while grappling them.
MrL1193 MrL1193 ah, ok. Mastering the power knee was always tricky for me lol sucks that they weren't in 3 but hey at least you can do some fun mix up combos with the grabbing knee ^__^ I believe I always either ending grabs with the throw or the kick that sends them flying up lol
I absolutely love this game. I borrowed it from a friend during elementary many moons ago and got pretty far that night to Italy. I ended up getting his copy because he didn't want it anymore. Eventually I was able to beat the game and after that, I would beat the game 2-4 times a year to hear the end credits music.
I've seen quite a few comments about people telling him to use the power knee to the face after you jump or when you're getting up from being knocked down. That move is in DD2. This is DD3. You can't do that move in DD3.
GanJiko Jones no i know that you can do that. They are talking about a different attack though as by the description in my comment. You jump towards the enemy doing a very powerful knee attack with timing as you land from a previous jump or if you time it right you can do it as you are getting back up from being knocked down and that is what they are talking about and you can't do that move in DD3. That is a move from DD2.
For this game it was all about the kicking with the Double Dragons. The kicks had the most range. For Chin his punches are the most damaging moves in the game. He's a tank you need for the end for sure. Also, keeping the enemy alive who gives you the bottle/sai like weapons will let you keep the weapon until you kill him.
This is so good. I literally cracked up the second time you got to the boss and he gave ya the falcon knee and smashed you. lol I said he just kicked his ass and two seconds later you mutter the same phrase.
Loving this series. I honestly look forward to this every sunday. Oh and if by chance you see this, Please Please Please play Captain Planet for the NES :)
Man this brought back memories. Ty lol. Its the hurricane kick. Even though tornado kick does make way more sense. A lot of people say cyclone kick which also makes more sense. looked it up just to see if my memory was right side it was almost 30 years ago i played this. Omg i feel OLD
Damn, just so you know if you ever want to try it again, double tap to run, jump kick into a wall you will wall kick. Ranzou doesn't have to run, he can do it automatically with a knee drop attack against the wall. Chin has high defense and his regular punches will kill most enemies in about 5 hits. Ranzou has weak defense but his drop kick and dropping sword swipe are powerful. He also has invincibility frame with his knee drop attack. Billy is balanced. He should definitely be the last fighter. Hope you try again. Enjoyed the video.
I found a game that I think would be perfect for this series. Its an SNES game called "Doomsday Warrior" On the surface it seems like a normal fighting game (street fighter 2, mortal kombat, etc.) But its much weirder, and the difficulty can best be described as "Soul Crushing". Also you have stats that you increase after ifghts, depending on how well you did. (do better, get more increases). Of course the game's difficulty makes getting any...difficult XD You should check it out some time! You'll see what I mean real fast. Everyone in the comments should too. Its one of the most painfully frustrating games I have ever played.
Dude.i have no idea how you have so much patience. Even in the Mario maker games. Now this. Whatever you do to have that much inner peace, please teach it to me 😂👌
Billy: Spin kick is killer as you were doing. no issue. Chin: Punch is quick and powerful.IRanzou: basically his sword has longer reach than a standard punch so u can kill a lot of guys with just his punch.
When enemies surround you on knockdown, you can jump right out of it on wake up. What I like to do is jump left or right and turn around with a normal jump attack, freeing yourself from the stupid onslaught enemies try to smother you with random punches/kicks.
Dude, I know that you are not beating this game in the video here, but you sure make this game look a lot easier than it actually is. What is the secret to being exceptionally good at video games? Clearly it isn't practice, because you have never played this before. At any rate, keep up the amazing content dude.
So, the spin kick is good, but it always leaves you open for a free hit, it really is better to punch as much as you can, and throw. You can also run and do special attacks which is even more effective, and you can actually wall jump off walls AND off the side of the screen! These last two especially make Ranzou (the ninja) insanely powerful. When you play two players you can also do team combos like the enemies do.
I beat this game hundreds of times.. There are some strategies.. Chin is perfect for regular attacks and ninja jump kick is so over powered that you didn't used.. The real high level game started when you have to beat 3 mummies and final Queen she is tough as nails... Movement is so vital in that last fight...

Feinting a punch can get the programmed enemies to wait for a moment while you then throw the huge jumping cyclone kick, but... ugh... yeah. What were they thinking when they were like: Health drops? NAH, IT'LL BE FINE. Refill health at stage's end? SURE, MAYBE. Allow more than 5 hits with weapons? NAH, IT'LL BE FINE. 3 lives? ONE. Good controls? PASS. Bimmy? YES, PLEASE. lol
You’ve played Battletoads... You’ve played Double Dragon... and now you just HAVE to play Battletoads Double Dragon for the SNES 👌🏼
