There are a lot (A LOT) of disappointing things about the EA NHL franchise games, but you're absolutely right, this isn't one of them! This detail is so cool! I hadn't bought an NHL game since 20, but when I heard you could do this, I jumped all over it. I love this kind of creativity! I'll probably start streaming a new Franchise Mode with these rosters over on my other channel, EtherxNifty, in the next couple weeks. Look for that under the live tab! -Nifty
I love the Stingers dude that was super creative and it definitely works.. er, you made it work. Either way that's an awesome effort and great color scheme. 👍 looking forward to watching more
FIRST ... GREAT VIDEO with 32 TEAMS (NHL & AHL) & amazing JERSEYS. I did the same in NHL23 and added 16 NHL teams only (14 US and 2 Canadian Cities) but I used Alumni players like Lemieux, Bossy, Hasek, and Robinson and divided the talent among 16 teams and geography ... so Hartford got Bruins players but Salt Lake City got Colorado former players like Sakic and Forsberg. The original 6 teams will be split between 2 teams ... done in a way that the 16 teams would be top-heavy but the average would be at par with the original 32 teams. Expansion teams like Houston, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Portland Oregon, Austin Texas, San Diego, Toronto 2/Hamilton, Quebec City, and Indianapolis with Gretzky, San Francisco, Hartford with Verbeek and Dineen, Charlotte, Orlando, Kansas City, Norfolk Virginia, and Baltimore)
My first thought was to do exactly that, using the alumni players. But for a Franchise mode, you can't change the age of the players, so they would all presumably retire after the first year or so. A few years ago I did a Season Mode (Not Franchise) doing this, and it was a lot of fun! I just wish EA would let us edit player ages -Nifty.
Nice to see some Virginia representation! Rarely if ever does my state get any pro sport representation, let alone hockey. Though I chose the Richmond Renegades, a former ECHL team, to represent my home state lol.
I definitely didn't say this how I meant it. Because you're absolutely correct, there is a fleur de lis. Or however its spelled lol! But I meant a jersey with them instead of stripes, like how the Nordiques had it. So that I could use the old igloo logo, and the fluers like they had. But good catch, you're 100% right, it's there at the bottom! -Nifty
Interesting concepts. I like these hypotheticals, but there is something that irks me: when teams share arenas with existing teams/affiliates. In your league, Halifax's AHL affiliate is the Providence Narwhals, who play at the "Dunk" (Amica Mutual Pavilion, formally known as the Dunkin' Donuts Center), but Boston's AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins, play there too. Unless you switched around where Boston's AHL team would be in your league, they would have to share the arena. What would happen when the Narwhals face the P-Bruins if they share the same arena?
When I was selecting the arenas, I was more focused on where they might play if they were in the NHL. The AHL is sort of a "whatever" kind of thing for me personally. Plus I don't think it'd be that weird to have two minor league teams share an arena if they had to. But your mileage may vary -Nifty
Could have also used the Omaha Knights. The knights had two incarnations. the first played from 1939 to 1951, with a pause due to WW2. Gordie Howe played for them in 1945 before going on to his legendary career with the red wings. They were reborn in 1959 as members of the International Hockey League. Following the 1962-63 season the team moved to Toledo, Ohio, becoming the Toledo Blades. A new Knights team joined the Central Professional Hockey League for the 1963-64 season. This second iteration of the Knights moved to Houston to become the Houston Apollos after the 1964-65 season. After a year without a team, hockey returned to Omaha for the 1966-67 season after the Minnesota Rangers moved from Saint Paul, Minnesota, to vacate the market that the National Hockey League's Minnesota North Stars would soon occupy. The CPHL was renamed the Central Hockey League in 1968, where the Knights continued to play until they folded after the 1974-75 season. i took this from wikipedia, i didn't know how to summarize it.
Knights would've been a sick name, and I didn't know about their history in minor leagues. But I don't know that I would have picked it just due to the similarity to the Golden Knights in Vegas. -Nifty
Thanks! :) They're in Roster Sharing as "32 Nifty Custom Teams V1". But I think it might only work for the last gen consoles, or specifically Xbox One? I'm not sure how that all works. -Nifty
The Custom Teams are. I think it should work. I did all of the editing on the Xbox 1 (last gen), and I think shared rosters work within the same generation. Look for a shared roster called "32 Nifty Custom Teams V1" As far as the actual league part of it, you'll have to create your own Custom Franchise Mode once you've got the rosters. -Nifty
Thanks for watching! I figured not to do the Admirals because they already exist in the AHL. Part of what I wanted to do was, when I put these teams up on Roster Sharing, I wanted folks to be able to pick and choose which created teams where NHL, and which were AHL affiliates. So if someone downloaded my rosters, and then wanted to make the Milwaukee team the AHL club, there'd be two Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL. And that felt not good. Hope that makes sense lol I can't remember if I said in the vid, but I got the Hogs name from Harley Davidson being headquartered in Milwaukee. I do agree with you, if the NHL expanded to Milwaukee, they should see about having the club name be the Admirals. It's a historic, beloved brand! -Nifty
Thanks for the explanation. I think some of us from Milwaukee would rather focus on the water rather than the rust belt and single manufacturing company. Milwaukee has a semi-pro soccer team, the Milwaukee Wave, which has a great blue, white and green color scheme. Being on Lake Michigan we like repping the Great Lakes@@etherxsocial
It's very rare (I can't think of one) for a team to be given a 4 letter abbreviation. And either way, teams will have different abbreviations for different broadcasts. I've seen the Columbus Blue Jackets expressed as CMB and CBJ, for instance. So neither of us have to be wrong here. And I didn't create a San Antonio team, but the Birmingham Bulls did take a lot of inspiration from the now-defunct San Antonio Rampage. -Nifty
The London Knights are actually already in the game! They play in the OHL, a Canadian Junior league, and all those leagues are in the game. And I do like their branding, wouldn't be opposed to borrowing the branding... But with the Vegas Golden Knights already existing in the NHL, that'd be too many Knights, man! There was actually some kind of legal action about this when the Golden Knights came into the league, because the London Knights thought "Knights hockey team" was too similar". -Nifty
I don't think so. Xbox One and (I think) PS4 only. Next year I might do this again on my new PS5 on NHL 25 tho. Some changes, but the core idea being the same. -Nifty
A friend and I have this conversation about once a week. Would the NHL be better with a promotion/relegation system? On one side, there's all the benefits of European-style leagues. More teams, more fanbases, underdog teams, merit-based advancement. But on the otherside, I'm not sure American audiences would continue supporting 'their team' to the financial level needed to be competitive if they were relegated. Minor sports are just not as popular in the US, potentially because there's so many options for sports entertainment in the US in general. I fear once a team got relegated, they'd probably only get about 33% of the financial support from fans/community, and then they'd never have the resources for promotion. But I don't see why we can't have a ton of teams in the top leagues. Why couldn't the NHL do 48 teams? You hear talent pool, but honestly, being an old fart now-a-days, I can safely say that most of the AHL is better conditioned and more technically aware than top teams of the 80's and 90's. But it's absolutely a great conversation to have in general. One of the most fun what-ifs! -Nifty
Just a regular ol' Xbox One, sadly. Or not sadly? It's literally the only game I play on a console that isn't a Nintendo, and I'm not made of money, so buying the next gen console for just the hockey game... I DID actually consider it, but it just didn't seem realistic for me. -Nifty
Does anyone know of similar rosters for xbox series x/s? I need a roster that has somewhat nhl ready teams and this one is perfect but it is just the wrong generation.
Good question! I hope someone comes along and finds one. If there's anything I could do to help, without buying a totally new console, let me know! -Nifty
Sorry, didn't see this. For whatever reason, UA-cam doesn't tell the creator about replies? Anyways, when you're setting up a custom league, when you get to the screen with the NHL teams and divisions, you can switch the menu to the AHL side using the menu button. From there, something will let you substitute AHL teams. So you'll replace the European league teams that get slotted in. But! In order to make sure the minor affiliate you want is attached to the correct NHL team, you'll have to use the previous menu, where you select your team and replace NHL teams, and note which affiliate goes with which substituted team. I don't know if that's a clear way of explaining that whole process. EA makes a mess of things lol. -Nifty
I love that NHL 24 (and 23) give us the option for basically any league structure you can think of.

Love these creations. Sadly it doesn’t appear in the ps4 shared downloads so looks like its not cross platform compatible. Great work!!
Really good video, I have been customizing teams for years and it’s fun to see someone do it also
Hey if your reading this, you can change the line to I think 24 to make it where it don’t go over the teams logo. It looks so much better.

Stick taps for the defunct Peoria Rivermen. Also a Blues fan here.

Are you gonna make the same teams in nhl 25?
He has said that he will be making new teams in NHL 25. However, he will be switching from XB to PS.
Where can I download this
Stay tuned for NHL 25 release, he will be doing them again, with different teams though.
