Just the rawness and analog feel they had, while still maintaining the Honda quality and engineering. I know most consumers will disagree with me and opt for the perfection of modern cars like this.
0-60 is a metric reserved for high schoolers and EV fanatics. Let us embrace important characteristics other than straight line numbers. There's a lot to like here.
@@jahquinbrown-es9xx the sound is really underwelming though... its a very weak sounding V6, I expected more. not many good sounding small engine anymore, only hyundai and BMW still makes good sounding cars... wierd

Small observation that I thought was kind of cool. The little car at the bottom of the screen shows when you have your brakes on and even shows the turn signal. Small details like that are pretty cool.
I’ve had my ‘22 A-Spec since new and I’m totally sold on the shifter buttons. They don’t take up any more console space than a traditional shift lever, they don’t block your hand from the dash controls, and they make it nearly impossible to choose the wrong gear by mistake. I’m not a fan of rotary knobs or stubby tip-fore-and-aft levers.

Acura Legend, Acura Integra, Acura TL (all three manuals), and now 2023 Acura TLX Type S owner here. Of all the Acura's I have owned over the last 25 years, this new TLX Type S is an absolute dream to drive. I really do love this new car but really do wish it had a manual transmission. Honda/Acura's manuals were always the best in the business. Hopefully the new Integra's manual makes its way into the TLX. If it does I will trade this 2024 in for it in a heartbeat.
this is one of the better handling cars in its class. really looks like you can push it hard. think its lacking in straight line speed for what they're charging but its cool of Acura to bring back the Type S name
0-60 in 4.9 seconds is slow? I know that's not what you're saying, but this car is faster than 98% of the trucks, SUV's, and family sedans of the last 5 years on the road.
I saw this car a while back in white on the street and didn't even know what it is because I was rolling up towards it and then I realized it was an Acura. Definitely an eye catching car.
Thank you for testing the adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and other driver assistance features! These rarely get discussed beyond "it has them" but no details of how they _feel_ to use as a driver. If I'm buying a car as a daily driver or more than a Sunday racer then I want to know how it feels, if it works well, and if it's comfortable or awkward or intuitive to use. Oh! And does it have remote start on the key fob, NOT through an app? I'd also like to hear/see what you think of the infotainment system, auto wipers, auto high beams, etc. as my current car has so many great features but they just feel like they aren't tuned the way I want them to be. For example, the adaptive cruise control is far too sensitive to cars entering or leaving your lane and going down hills (to the point it kind of feels unsafe if I was another driver on the road).
I love this car! The main thing stopping me from buying one is the horrendous fuel economy. I drive close to 20k miles per year and the TLX Type S would require quite a bit in gas money each year. I’m still thinking about it but my pragmatic side is telling me to stick with my Accord Touring 2.0T for a while longer. Most of my miles are on the highway and I’m averaging 30 in my Accord. Would probably drop to 23 or so in this car. It is such a looker though. If I were to buy one, it would be identical to the one in this video. Love the Urban Gray with the red leather. Gorgeous car! Thanks for the great video.
Having had multiple accord V-6s and driven a touring 2.0t, I'd keep it unless you want the insane handling (also, good looking mine is performance red lol). The gas mileage even in my 21' TLX 2.0t AWD is iffy it's more like 17-18 city 30 hwy in my experience. Can't speak for the Type-S though but I'd be shocked if it wasn't significantly worse than the 2.0t considering they share the same 10-speed/AWD setup. Also have to factor in premium gas vs accord. Idk if the S is required or recommended like the 2.0T but it doesn't run as great on regular so just something to consider. You have a great car, I'd stick with it! :-)
@@jamesholden8625 I tend to agree. I love my car. It's a '21 in Sonic Gray Pearl. I'm not looking to replace it anytime soon but I really do like the '24 Type S. If I were to get a Type S, I would definitely run premium in it. I already do in my Accord even though it isn't required. I am not in the market until at least 2025.
I drove a TLX A-Spec SH-AWD when they came out years ago and was amazed by the car. I’d driven several competitors and the usual German flagships in this price range at the time and was head over heels for the Acura. I still have the sales booklet and glance at it from time to time. I ended up with an FK8, but very well may pick up one of these Type S models once they become reasonably cheaper on the used market.
My sister has an MDX Type S, cool thing about the HUD is that, using Android Auto, it will pass the directions from Waze to the HUD. Thought that was a pretty cool connection. Man this Type S’s are so refined and comfy, but feeling the SHAWD kick in around turns is so fun! Really the touchpad is the only thing that annoys me, but I’m sure I’d get used to it. Also wish the redline was higher and the exhaust was louder.
A subtle design note that I really like is the position of the screen. It is pretty well positioned in a driver's line-of-sight so you can see the road without looking down where it might more typically be (nearer the hazard switch). They still manage to keep the dash nice and low on their sedans no matter the generation or model, and no matter the safety regulations mandating thicker pillars and sight lines. I loved the visibility out of my 08 civic. Steering wheel right in the lap, and every control well within arms' reach. I really like how Acura has learned from poorer interior design choices like the dual screen setup and almost bloated looking interior. I almost bought a 2020 but wasn't a huge fan of the interior design even then. Went with a mk7 GTI instead. This is a great culmination of their learned-from mistakes and pursuit of excellence, akin to Lexus. Cheers, Toph. Thank you for the content and experiences.
Great video. Im 30k miles in on my type s. Theres an ease to this car. Steering is best in class, probably the belt drive. Low cowl makes the seating postion perfect imo. When left in auto mode, shifts are dual clutch fast on upshifts. I can throw it into a long sweeper and floor it, rear rotates as if it has rear steer. It laughs at inclement weather. Dare I say not a single rattle or creak. Perfect enthusiast family daily with tremendous value. This is the first car in decades that ive kept for over 2 years😂
Videos can't do justice to how flat and wide these sit. I am a huge fan and it's been on my radar if I ever needed to replace the 235 unexpectedly. Only thing, coming from constant annoyance of the auto-locking system on my dad's civic (and the familiar beeping around 1:00-2:00), I would be very disappointed if it can't be disabled.
I’m not doubt putting myself in this AS SOON as I see the tuning and modding potential open up. A HONDA made 3.0TT 10spd V6! I’d definitely push the limits of the engine to see how much these can take.
Acura owner here. Really dig my Acura MDX in the snow. The SH-AWD is really great in slick weather. My gripes are piano black interior gets finger prints and glares sun in your face. Secondly, the touch pad really sucks. They definitely need a touchscreen or rotary knob.
Very nice looking sedan, great exterior, nice interior. The only letdown I think is the engine, 355HP is not that big a number in a 4,200lb AWD sedan. Slap another turbo on that 3.0L, give it another 60-70HP than you're looking at some serious performance, but as it stands now, straight line performance is kinda underwhelming for something thats called the Type-S. That AWD system is incredible though.
This has a better power-to-weight ratio than a G37x. And this is a type-s and not a type-r. I suppose if you wanted proper straight line performance get an NSX or a Civic Type R. Also, this car already has twin turbos. Would it even be possible to put a third turbo on there? if so then I wholeheartedly agree that would be epic.
@@gabegonsalvesthis is way more of a straight line boat than the type r. It needs to be faster in a straight line given that its awd boat with significantly worse handling than a type r. The type r is not a car you get for straight line speed
@@gabegonsalves Its a single turbo 3.0L V6, a G37 is also a 10 year old car at this point, the TLX Type-S is competing with the likes of the Audi S6 which is a properly fast sedan, the S6 has a Twin-Turbo V6 with 450HP almost 100 more HP than the Acura, and it's 0-60 time is a full second quicker.
I don’t think Acura has the engine in their line-up, but imagine a MDX Type-R with 450ish horsepower. Maybe they could go performance hybrid of the NSX detuned with less exotic internals? If the trans and SHAWD can handle it, imagine how fun that would be with some beefy brakes and wide tires. Also with some more fender flaring to fit the wider tires. This thing would look SOOOO MEAN! oh well a man can dream
This is one I cross shopped with the M340i. Ultimately, the Bimmer won and that's what I bought. I live in the South, don't need AWD, and preferred the RWD dynamics of the M340i. Completely agree on the audio, my Harmon Kardon system sucks and took A LOT of tweaks, even including some coding to get it right. But the B58 sounds much better, so there's that.
I had the opportunity to test drive this car, and it felt remarkably similar to my Honda Accord, with the exception of some variations in horsepower. I was quite fond of it until I test drove the BMW 4 Series. After that experience, I decided to order the BMW.
When this came out it was compared to Ferrari and other similarly priced supercars. And just the the original NSX, we all (myself included) missed the entire point and purpose of it. Now is the time to buy one of these because in a few years they will be more expensive than any Ferrari sold while it was being made.
13:00 one thing to check with this is if it will stop when there are cars parked on the side of the road. I have a 2021 Kia Forte GT2 and this is sometimes a problem. Sometimes have to hover my foot over the gas incase it hits the break.
I really like this new one. I currently have a 2018 Audi S4 and am definitely considering this for my next car. Custom build seems to get quite expensive (around 80k for my build) but not something to complain about since it's what I spend anyways. I love the carbon details avaliable and like the physical buttons for the entertainment system (since audi is pushing on the touchscreens and I don't like that). This video is real nice and helps me get a better idea of the car itself.
Me too Honda always does that when it’s a mid gen change for some reason the 21,22 Accord had a VERY annoying new chime and they went back to the better chime from 18,19,20 Accord in the current 2023.
I was looking at the IS 350 F-Sport forever but I saw this TLX Type-S the other day and thought wow...and looking up the specs and overall interior which looks way better than the 2024 IS 350 (IMO), I was like WOWWWWWW. I may end up with this instead of the IS 350 for so many reasons.
uff damn i love the colour and style of this car ....wish the rear had little more space but comprmised ..handling is excellent the best acura i have driven..
I have a previous gen Acura where the push-button transmission is positioned where a traditional lever would normally be. It falls really nicely to hand. Shifting is just a flick of the finger and I keep my arm on the arm rest and don’t even have to move it. The newer Acuras place it forward, higher, and central where it’s more awkward to reach and use.
A touch screen dashboard is a great way to make idiots feel like they’re piloting a spaceship, but they’re extremely unsafe. One study found that drivers can take up to 40 seconds to complete a dashboard task on a touchscreen, and the European New Car Assessment Program has barred cars with full touchscreen dashboards from receiving a perfect safety rating.
I can't tell if it's the SH-AWD that's helping it put its power down or is it the fact that it's under powered and heavyweight and because of that it just can't slip. 🤔
If this had a ZF 8 speed and a more logical dash design, I would definitely consider it. As it is, way too high a price for so many compromises and definitely still "Honda loud".
@@mrniceguy7168I traded my x3 m40i for an mdx type s. The b58/ZF is such a deadly combination. The 10 speed in the MDX is ok. It's slow to shift. It doesn't hold a candle to the ZF. It's obviously a cost saving measure by Honda. An internally developed transmission is cheaper than buying the ZF I guess.
@@eloneatmyshorts the space is nice. Honestly, I missed all the creature comforts. The m40i is an amazing driving machine. But it doesn’t have: remote start, massaging seats, air ride, a good stereo, etc. Unfortunately 95% of my commute is in crap traffic and I don’t get to use the b58 anyways. I much prefer the Acura, for my daily commute.
I went with a RedSport, mostly because I just can not stand the interior on these. However I will say it's the only other car that gave it a run for looks when it comes to the exterior. Such a good looking car.
I really miss my Q60 Red Sport. Such a unique car that stands out. Also more powerful, but the driving experience in my TLX Type S has me hooked. I was always annoyed with the steering/handling of the Infiniti despite its power. The SH-AWD in the TLX is simply amazing and more engaging. I'm not a fan of the interior dash on either car but that's not why I buy these. Have fun in that RS for the both of us.
Is the suspension comfortable? I love the sporty look but I prefer a comfortable cruise that handles road imperfections well. Does it have a solid ride quality? Interior rattle noise? Would you buy this for yourself?
Just a bummer that Acura can't make a proper RWD platform. Driving dynamics are inherently compromised with this FWD platform, no matter how much trickery they incorporate with the SH-AWD system. I recently purchased a manual '05 TSX, and as much as I love the little car, it'll be my last FWD. Also, 25 hwy MPG in this thing is atrocious, considering cars like BMW's 340i get close to 30.
drove one back to back with a g70 3.3t. the genesis felt lighter, quicker and more fun. the genesis had a better dash layout too. that said, I liked the acura more. felt rock solid, sounded great and looked great.
Not sure why they didn't make heated steering wheel a standard feature on their flagship model but it is standard feature on the 2025 Acura TLX Type-S model.
I dig the color🎉. The trunk is Tight.. but totally usable. Super quiet in the car.. No Rattles The transmission is actually faster around town in Normal mode than Sport and Sport plus.. maybe my butt dyno is off.. but that's how it feels

Just the rawness and analog feel they had, while still maintaining the Honda quality and engineering. I know most consumers will disagree with me and opt for the perfection of modern cars like this.
Too perfect? 0-60 is way too slow
If your a race car driver yes it's to slow. If your a normal person who follows the speed limit and only go to and from work, it's a perfect car.
0-60 is a metric reserved for high schoolers and EV fanatics. Let us embrace important characteristics other than straight line numbers. There's a lot to like here.
@@jahquinbrown-es9xx the sound is really underwelming though... its a very weak sounding V6, I expected more. not many good sounding small engine anymore, only hyundai and BMW still makes good sounding cars... wierd
@@JDMintegraVTECso much Yes! EVs have made that metric irrelevant. It’s also absurd to claim those vehicles are about environmental concerns and then make them so quick (clearly, this drains energy etc etc)...
Good to see local Michigan roads in videos like these! Cheers!
Absolutely love the content love watching your videos everytime they come out , keep it up :)
Love the looks, just can't get over how small this car is interior wise and it weighs as much as my cx9
Weight means safety so it doesn't bother me too much, but yeah they are surprisingly small inside. Even the trunk is small.
It's smaller inside then their TL's years prior.
@@jmen8888 yes, absolutely wild. The integra type s also arguably eclipses it in performance. Wild.
that car and that transmission are amazing 😫
With all these Acura posts i sure hope to see some classics in the future. Legend coupe is a super cool one :)
Small observation that I thought was kind of cool. The little car at the bottom of the screen shows when you have your brakes on and even shows the turn signal. Small details like that are pretty cool.
this guy is a monster on those turns... jeez
Definitely the best car reiveiwer on youtube. You deserve a million subs ! If you ever get to do a pov of a f30 bmw, that would be cool. 335 guy here 🤘🏻
They did a few 330's or 328's on the Winding Road channel if memory serves
@joespittle1 yea I looked it up right after I commented and saw him do a 435i lol close enough
This looks very nice! I actually *just* submitted an order for an M240, but this was in strong consideration. Nice car.
this is one of the better handling cars in its class. really looks like you can push it hard. think its lacking in straight line speed for what they're charging but its cool of Acura to bring back the Type S name
0-60 in 4.9 seconds is slow? I know that's not what you're saying, but this car is faster than 98% of the trucks, SUV's, and family sedans of the last 5 years on the road.
Acura done a really good job with the interior design in the present world of minimalistic and stuff
I’ve had mine since May 2022. Bought it brand new and still love it everyday…. Tiger Eye Pearl 😁
I saw this car a while back in white on the street and didn't even know what it is because I was rolling up towards it and then I realized it was an Acura. Definitely an eye catching car.
lovely sound from that v6
Why did I just fall in love with this car out of nowhere😂
@@jamesholden8625 I get 17-18 mpg in my type s, i only really drive city. If you are gunning at every red light though maybe 15
2024 mdx is touchscreen again
The pumped in audio reminds me of the first grand turismo game I played on playstation 1 as a kid ahah
even the SH-AWD in my 07 MDX feels amazing in corners and on-ramps
this car is really underrated specially on the acura gold color
Great video. Im 30k miles in on my type s. Theres an ease to this car. Steering is best in class, probably the belt drive. Low cowl makes the seating postion perfect imo. When left in auto mode, shifts are dual clutch fast on upshifts. I can throw it into a long sweeper and floor it, rear rotates as if it has rear steer. It laughs at inclement weather. Dare I say not a single rattle or creak. Perfect enthusiast family daily with tremendous value. This is the first car in decades that ive kept for over 2 years😂
This almost reminds me of a GTR.
Edit: That torque vectoring is awesome, I’d love to see that thing on the track.
If nissan made a legit maxima, this would be it.
yes lol acura can't even keep up with infiniti's @RedPanda_______
Throttle House did a track test of the Type S on there side; sounds like its best matched for the road alone
The TLX actually beat the Nissan Z and Q50 Redsport's lap time at MotorTrend.
Bro all Acura had to do was give it 400 hp and have a touch screen
Gon have to put a tune on it
I wish Acura would make a coupe version of this. It would be sweet. Love the dash layout design.
Its a Single Turbo, but its a Twin Scroll, love these cars too I sell them at Acura!
I’m not doubt putting myself in this AS SOON as I see the tuning and modding potential open up. A HONDA made 3.0TT 10spd V6! I’d definitely push the limits of the engine to see how much these can take.
its a single turbo
Vtec 😩
@gabegonsalves it's not twin turbo it's single turbo and it doesn't need twin turbo it just needs a few more pounds of boost in the higher revs
@@ZoomZoom356 that’s fair yeah. Honestly I guess that more speaks to the g37 which can keep up with newer cars like these
8:20 carving that corner. Love it!!
I really don't understand why they didn't put this at 400hp or so to compete with things like the m340.
there is a heated steering wheel but you need to option it, it is not standard.
Best POV channel
Just found your channel when I was car shopping since mine’s got totaled and I really wish I could afford this, great video, you earned a sub!
This car never really made my radar, but what a pleasant surprise and review. Thanks for this one, Topher!
Acura is just too attached to the FWD architecture. They're always going to lose out to proper RWD sedans.
I wanted to get my wife the Type S. I loved it but she wanted the Red Sport. That said the Type S was nice
Like the old start up chime better
Me too Honda always does that when it’s a mid gen change for some reason the 21,22 Accord had a VERY annoying new chime and they went back to the better chime from 18,19,20 Accord in the current 2023.
Yea the new one feels like some generic chime from a 90s GM/Ford product. The one they have currently in the MDX and Integra is their best imo.
I like the microwave one from the 2000s
I was looking at the IS 350 F-Sport forever but I saw this TLX Type-S the other day and thought wow...and looking up the specs and overall interior which looks way better than the 2024 IS 350 (IMO), I was like WOWWWWWW. I may end up with this instead of the IS 350 for so many reasons.
You're POV reviews are phenomenal. I've watched multiple reviewers since the ending of saabkyle. You've replace him haha. Thank you sir. Good work!!
uff damn i love the colour and style of this car ....wish the rear had little more space but comprmised ..handling is excellent the best acura i have driven..
People that drive this in the way you did always like it alot. The only complaint is the weight affects the performance.
It is a large car. Weight wise its not that heavy for its size. An M2 almost weighs as much as this
I have a previous gen Acura where the push-button transmission is positioned where a traditional lever would normally be.
Man that startup sound would drive me nuts
Love it, want one, but don't have $60K. Love the TLX in general too. Great review as always. All the best from MI too!
In 15 years this is gonna be some 16 year old kid’s dream car. (I’m 19 and own a 2008 Acura TL Type S)
Hi, is the tlx type S cabin quiet? or a lot of wind noises? I heard they made some changes for 2024 model to make the cabin quieter.
"Take this out to a racetrack"? I feel like this car brings the racetrack to you. Especially in that Sport+ mode :)
Great video! Acura really has no brand image....this car is all over the place. Anyways Id recommend a Lexus or a Genesis over this anyday
What is wrong with the 10 speed?
@@mrniceguy7168I traded my x3 m40i for an mdx type s. The b58/ZF is such a deadly combination. The 10 speed in the MDX is ok. It's slow to shift. It doesn't hold a candle to the ZF. It's obviously a cost saving measure by Honda. An internally developed transmission is cheaper than buying the ZF I guess.
@@lockheedloadYou traded in an X3 M40i for an MDX S? Oye!!!Must’ve needed more space?
@@eloneatmyshorts the space is nice. Honestly, I missed all the creature comforts. The m40i is an amazing driving machine. Great review! The bounce when walking around the car. LOL
My goodness where did you begin your drive? The road at the beginning was downright awful.
If it wasn’t for the interior specifically the screen this would be my dream car.
TO THE TOPHER, LOVES YOUR VIDEOS YOUR PASSION FOR WHAT YOU DO I IS ALWAYS EVIDENT. MY ? IS ACURA TLX TYPE S or LEXUS IS 500 WHATS MORE FUN TO DRIVE ?
Great video 💯 waiting on the night time drive next 😍
Really nice and performance seems great , but early 60k seems little to much $
drove one back to back with a g70 3.3t. the genesis felt lighter, quicker and more fun. the genesis had a better dash layout too. that said, I liked the acura more. felt rock solid, sounded great and looked great.
It’ll probably last longer too.
