Great review as always, Topher! I agree with everyone here; this is a beautiful car, and has the performance to back it up. Unfortunately, to me at least, the car just doesn’t make sense at this price point. $55k MSRP+dealer markups… if you’re a diehard fan, yes, it would make sense, but for some of us, $55k is a lot of money. There are a lot of faster and funner cars at this price point. I think what made Hondas/Acuras so attractive back in the day was that their cars were so affordable, moddable, and a lot of fun to drive. This unfortunately takes away from the affordable side of things…
Yeah I’m thinking maybe like 40k but then again look at how expensive a basic accord is now. Car prices are terrible such as the price of most things now days
For some of us $55k is a lot of money? Bro. $20k is a lot of money to some of us. Both cars paid-off, and they weren’t $45k combined. What a world we’re living in.

This seems like a package with much broader appeal than the Type R. Not to call the civic Niche by any means, but they really had to sharpen and focus that car to get it to perform as well as it does that it will make it a difficult car for many people to daily drive. I would personally choose this car without hesitation, and I love the Type R.
I like the type S for sure. I think reviewers seem to be quick to bash the FL5 by saying it's not a good "daily driver" I think you can easily live with both cars. Both do everything super well.
I predicted this vehicle would be widely popular and way more pricey than the sticker price. It's a great car from what I've heard. I currently lease an MDX Type S Advance and it's an amazing vehicle. My favorite past time is stepping on BMWs, lol.
Meh, you're not harassing any BMW with the current Honda line up on the highway. A 340i will do 0-60 in 3.8 sec 12.3 in the 1/4 mile. It's a car you'll see sorority chicks drive. Know this, BMW has a higher reliability score also, 3rd best according to consumer reports.
Topher, it would take a foam lining to these tires to make a noticeable difference tire noise even with their own compound. Idk if you say this later in the video, but they added dozens of pounds worth of sound deadening material all over the car, so of course the tires will sound quieter.
I was thinking about getting a GR Corolla but man that interior is so much nicer. I might consider this instead. I just love the old sti vibes I get from the GRC.
In the first 5 minutes, I'm already hugely more interested than the Civic Type R version. Very interested to see this in person and to drive it. It looks like a very good package overall. 👌 Quick edit: I'm worried about the seats though, I hope they're not too wide. The Type R does have great seats.
@@LuckyyScottyy for........what, the purpose matters a ton. As a street car I'd strongly disagree. For a track car, I wouldn't be surprised but neither is a purpose built track car so it doesn't matter much to me at all.
In my younger years, I owned a 94 Integra LS, 00 Integra GSR, 01 Integra Type R, and 05 RSX Type S. Most were heavily modified (shame on me), and I loved them all for different reasons. Wish I never gave up the ITR, but I traded it for an 85 Porsche 944 Turbo which was also a blast. I realize I'm the target demographic for the Integra Type S since I'm in my 40s and grew up with the original, but this is a hard sell for the price. $25k in 1997 is essentially $48k with inflation, so I guess this isn't too far off, but it's still tough with so many other options. I've since moved on to Porsches and definitely wouldn't give up my Cayman (or even Macan) for this. I know the new vs used argument always comes up, but would you really take this over a gently used Cayman S or GTS for nearly the same price?
I owned the 2000 Civic Si (bought it new). I had the body kit on it for a couple months with the 18in wheels. I quickly got rid of it for stock body parts, and put lighter weight 16in Motegi wheels and Eibach springs. I realized I rather have a fun driving car than a flashy car. I've owned MK2+3 Supras, FC RX-7, 240sx, 2nd gen Integra for short period of time, so I always loved the lightweight fun cars, minus the MK3 Supra which was a pig. I to am in my 40s and wouldn't be able to justify spending $40,000 - $50,000 on a reimagined childhood car. I held on to my BMW E90 for 12 years, still got it, but wanted a lightweight fun car and bought Mazda3 hatchback AWD. I really wanted an ND Miata but couldn't find one for a good price. It's comfortable, quiet, practical, AWD for the snow, decent MPG (36.8 mpg on a recent 100 mile trip), interior is best in it's class, and it darts around easily in southern New England abysmal streets and traffic, and the hatchback makes it easy for those trips to Home Depot for some potting soil and mulch. I slapped on some Pirelli P Zero AS UHP which are 4lbs lighter than stock OE per wheel and it corners great with confidence, combined that with just a drop in K&N for better intake sound and 93oct (87 recommended) for Mazda high 13:1 CR, you get far less timing pull at top end during hot summer days and you have yourself a fun reliable car. Will do 19lbs forge wheels next spring, stock 26lbs are way too heavy, knocking 40+lbs of rotational mass, will skip the lowering spring since my 40ish year old back would not enjoy it, neither would the car with these piss poor New England roads. If anyone is looking for a $50,000 sports car, the M240i with the proven B58 engine starts at $52,000 (2024 pricing). Just a thought. Before anyone say but it's BMW reliability, well BMW is tied with Mazda for 3rd, right behind Toyota and Lexus for most reliable.
Acura TLX Type S owner here.. Acura quality and reliability is not where it seems to be. I owned the Aspec 2021 tlx and had a bunch of electrical issues (carplay, puddle lights, steering rack, speakers ect) Now i have the Type S and have TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. They already replaced one and the new one is acting up. Just letting everyone know.
That’s too bad. Sadly our three Acuras over 15 years got worse and worse with electrical problems, crazy noises, and mechanical failures. We left the brand a few years ago. Was tired of constantly being at the dealer.
@@wavehogger I’ve been at my dealer since March for tlx type s transmission issues. Dealing with corporate as we speak. I’m disappointed with the quality.. I purchase this and not the germans to expect reliability and get the opposite.
@@moisesescobarr That’s a shame. I hope they can fix it or somehow make things right with you. Good luck! It made me sad to leave. I’ve had so many Honda/Acura’s that were amazing but someone decided to cut some corners and pinch some pennies. The Integra Type-S appears to be a well thought out car and getting positive feedback which I’m happy to see. Fingers crossed it has better reliability.
@@moisesescobarr Doesn’t surprise me. Honda started moving away from its tried and true engines/transmissions and took a huge hit to reliability. Meanwhile, pretty much any BMW with the ZF8+B58/B48 seems pretty much bulletproof.
Come on Acura! Over fifty thousand dollars and no rear a/c vents, power front passenger seat or DCT option?! Acura is obviously targeting a younger buyer here. It seems they missed an opportunity though. They already have a performance car for the younger enthusiast with the Type R. Acura should have taken this opportunity to compete with performance vehicles from Audi and BMW. Excellent review as usual Topher.
You are forgetting TTL and mark up, this car will be well over 70k. Just think of what you can get for 70k?? Honda is completely price gouging their fan base, its so sad...
The markups are not as bad on the Type S as on the Type R. So far I've seen between 5 - 10k. I've even found one Acura dealer only doing 3k markup. Honda dealers in the same area wanted 15 - 20k for the type R.
I wouldn't be surprised to see MSRP in 6 months when the hype dies down. I was even allowed to test drive Type S which I was surprised. The only way you got to test drive a Type R is if you bought it.
Great video as always. I'm curious to see how long you can resist selling the R and moving to the S. I just feel like the Type S is a better car in every way.
Would like to own one of these. I'm not playing any game, though. Am currently in a low mileage, Supra. If they would take it on trade with no games, I'm in.
100%. Honestly I think they made top many errors with the interior of the Type-S, it looks like an early 2000's commodity interior, not a modern sport hatch. The Civic is more modern looking, sharper, and more special in my opinion. Don't get me wrong the Type-S is a great car, just prefer the Type-R's lines, design, and special-ness.
Things I would need to justify buying this car: Back seat air vents. Ventilated seats. Better NVH. If Acura works on these, I would definitely buy this car.
Great content as always! Ever since your video about the suspension on your type R, I was wondering what you would think of the new type S. I was really hoping the type S could undercut the type R with less of a price bump and more availability at msrp as it doesn't have that branding effect of being a type R.
Absolutely stunning vehicle and one I definitely wouldn’t mind as a daily even when it’s just FWD. I just hope dealership markups doesn’t make it unobtainable, though they seem to be going down from brands cracking down on them.
got a 23' SI last month and they had a couple 23' Type R's. the SI had a 5k addendum mark up and the Type R's had a 25k addendum. so, I highly doubt you're walking away with a Type S for less than 75k from any dealership. they're out of their minds and I was lucky enough to get the addendum taken off. dealers are absolutely insane right now.
@@mcneemem It’s saddening really and I’m hoping more brands try to take control like Ford’s CEO does. He literally told dealerships to stop because they were retaining inventory and not making enough sales from the ridiculous markups they had on vehicles. Broncos and even the F150s were nearly if not over $100k
@@ShodakonFury I've seen that but unfortunately like me (and everyone else here).. we're all Honda fanatics LOL! and these dealerships know there's huge demand among the shortages, so they have the upper hand. however, I hope Honda does step in because it's ridiculous.
Rear door panel, rear vents, and auto/up down rear glass are all large disappointments for this price. And missed opportunities for differentiation. Maybe one of the twins should have a 5th seatbelt as well. And the first things I mentioned weren't actual cost cutting in the traditional sense. What it was is they actually didn't want to develop unique versions of those (door panel, vents, rear window pinch sensors) for a North America-only product.
My concerns would be how much rev hang does it have and I’ve read complaints of passenger front seat comfort and lack of adjustments. For $7k more than the Type R. I can get one for a deal, but I can get a crazy deal on a S3. I’ve been driving manuals since 1990, considering an auto.
When this car was announced I couldn’t wait for the release and I was going to buy one. A few days after the price was released I just couldn’t picture the $48k base price and knowing there would still be a dealer markup and every dealer gonna install options to bump the price up. A few days after the price announcement I bought a challenger scat pack with the 6 speed. After watching this review I am even more confident I made the right choice

From what I’ve seen the enthusiasts at Acura are better understanding of what customers want, especially Honda/Acura enthusiasts, compared to the hardcore purists at Honda Japan. They nailed the Type-S. The best part is you can actually buy them and they’re less expensive than a Type-R when dealership markup is a factor.
The Type S is $58,321 Canadian, in Canada, including freight and dealer prep. A lot of people think that's too much, but the Integra was never an inexpensive car. Type R in Canada in 1997 sold new for around $29,000, or $53,000 in today's money, using an inflation calculator. Given that the new vehicle is vastly superior from a tech and performance standpoint, it's about the same price but a much better car.
Somehow to a point where the interior of this car is similar to the interior of a new honda civic. I believe it can't be me who only thinks that way. They may have the same design elements. love it.
Great review. I went to look at one today, under MSRP. One kinda gripe: you short shift a lot. I always shift to 3k. It’s not good on the engine to shift early. And nothing wrong with shifting to 3-4k. Carry on!
I feel just like between the regular Civic and Integra that there's just not enough to differentiate the Civic Type R and Integra Type S. With the Integra being longer, heavier, more of a road car than a track weapon, and in a premium/luxury brand, they should have offered ventilated seats and a dual clutch automatic (still offer the manual though). The Type R could still be manual only to keep purists happy but this car is a different proposition (or at least it should be).
Where I live this will cost around 75k pre mark ups due to import costs thanks to my government (Puerto Rico, a US Territory) and idk how the hell I’m gonna buy this car, but I know I am. No question about it. I’m OBSESSED with it.
Quite simply it will drive exactly like what it is no doubt, a more luxurious and refined Civic Type R. A more streetable Civic Type R, surprisingly with a better exhaust sound. It's the only way it could drive, since it's on the exact same platform and has the same powertrain. I still think the ultimate handling limits of the Civic Type R will be a level above, but it will be close. It is NOT worth $75K. You seriously might regret that. Js
@@wbwayne8887 You’re right there, I completely forgot it’s basically a Type R with a suite and tie 😅😂 But yeah, unfortunately where I live any car which it’s MSRP is over $44,890 you MUST pay 34% on the amount over the 44 (basically 45k) so 34% of around 6-8k then on top of that an extra $9,253 🥲 making the MSRP before mark ups of the ITS specifically around $63,670 and that’s simply before mark ups if I’ve done the math correctly. However the only reason I didn’t get an FL5 was the interior, and this car fixed that and imo it looks even more aggressive but at the same time refined than it. And those rates go for any car. R is turned for track at the top end while S is tuned for road, a "drivers car" first instead of track first. In addition S is 20% softer in each damping setting compared to R. R is stiffer even in comfort.
Yes Acura has tuned the engine differently than Honda. You're impressions are spot on 👍

Ojai, California. Man, you have one of the coolest jobs on Earth. I'm jealous! Beautiful scenery, beautiful car, and great review as always
I just watched a p.o.v drive of the civic type r, and now seeing this, I'll take integra over civic anyday of the week. Welcome back integra.
This car looks really good I just spoke to a representative from Acura and already they're trying to get me out of my 21 TLX Type S for the new Integra. It's very tempting
Why would you do that the TLX is better
It's not even like it's significantly smaller or something they're they same size almost
@@gotworc I didn't say I was gonna do it, I have mine customized so this can't compare to mine at all in fact I plan to keep mine because they only made 2000 of this year so It will be a collector's item indeed

Tempted to check this thing out after the reviews. If this was a TLX type S with a manual, I would’ve gladly preordered one
man, that metallic sound drives me crazy, I always thought it was my fk8 with something loose. Now that I hear this type s with the same I'm more relaxed.. lol
Already know this is gonna be a good one!
Great review as always! And love the way you whip the car! That’s how you’re supposed to drive sports cars and the way you cleaned your shoes at the end shows how much you respect that car! Great job and keep up the great work! Im seriously thinking about buying one because of you!💪🏽
That blue 2004 Acura TSX needs a pov drive too. That car was sold under Honda's Accord division in European and Asian market. And the euro R version of that car was the top spec. 6 speed manual, original factory recaros bucket seats. K20 motor
I bought a 2023 Integra A-Spec! I would've bought this one but I know the dealer markups would kill me. I put 2k on mine so far and I would recommend it.
Not all dealers not gonna be as much demand as you think at msrp most people who want these don’t have 55000 and can’t get reasonable insurance as they are all 25-30 years old
I'd take this over type R anyday
@@snail415 fr just not long ago you could get a nice brand new car off the lot for 20-25k now it’s 30-40k for that same grade car
@@snail415 Right! My last two cars combined were 20k (used). Can't imagine paying $1,000/mo. for a boy racer car.
I get an absolute kick out of the brand elitists out there. "This car has great performance!" AT 320 hp and 310 ft/lb tq. Mustang ecoboost with a 4 cyl turbo has been doing 330 hp 350 ft/lb tq for YEARS now and nobody gives it any credit 😂 while having a better interior. such clowns I swear
Facts
People are just soft. Buy a crossover if you want a do everything daily driver.
I could absolutely see myself trading my Audi TTS in for one of these. Gorgeous car.
I predicted this vehicle would be widely popular and way more pricey than the sticker price. It's a great car from what I've heard. I currently lease an MDX Type S Advance and it's an amazing vehicle. My favorite past time is stepping on BMWs, lol.
It is a long Acura tradition to harass aggressive BMW drivers on the road.
That seems really immature, and fun.
@@DroneStrike1776 I had one on my way home.. A 330i?
I love that engine and pops!
Quick edit: I'm worried about the seats though, I hope they're not too wide. The Type R does have great seats.

Ive been waiting for this vid for so long. Super excited.
@@Barbwire710 yeah I agree. I’m trading in for a Audi RS5 Competition next year. Dumping the Type S
Thanks so much for sharing this review of the all-new 2023 Acura Integra Type S
Great video as always. I'm curious to see how long you can resist selling the R and moving to the S. I just feel like the Type S is a better car in every way.
I agree idk why anyone would get the Type R now. This car just flat out LOOKS so much better
Glad you’re one of the first videos up man!
Would like to own one of these. I'm not playing any game, though. Am currently in a low mileage, Supra. If they would take it on trade with no games, I'm in.
I absolutely love when these companies make these cars out of reach of their target audience. /s
It's the dealers - if only like Australia where Honda cut out the parasites
Buying one soon! Thanks, bro for the Raw experience! I love the Type R but this is just what the type R should be. Lol
This is a good looking car. I know it's 2023 but hearing $51k stung a bit.
Imagine that 10:18 lexus guy wathing this video and suddenly see my comment 😂😂😂😂
Am I the only one who thinks the Civic A/C vents look better than the Integra? I love the symmetry and continiousness of the Civic
Super excited about this one
Love that blue acura tsx up ahead! Gotta love the old hondas/acuras
Watching a vid for a car that I want to get. And finding a dope artist I've never heard of. 👍👍
In a world where two-ton-plus cars are now commonplace, a 3219lb Integra is positively lightweight. Good job Acura!
It actually felt quite heavy and boat-like in my test drive
Things I would need to justify buying this car: Back seat air vents. Ventilated seats. Better NVH. If Acura works on these, I would definitely buy this car.
Great content as always! Ever since your video about the suspension on your type R, I was wondering what you would think of the new type S. I was really hoping the type S could undercut the type R with less of a price bump and more availability at msrp as it doesn't have that branding effect of being a type R.
The topher is a great dude
No need to kiss ass for likes
@@AbuBawa-sw1ut there’s a few dealers here in NY with Integra Type S and they have markups, a few people in other videos have commented that they bought them with 3-5k markups

From what I’ve seen the enthusiasts at Acura are better understanding of what customers want, especially Honda/Acura enthusiasts, compared to the hardcore purists at Honda Japan.
Beautiful California scenery perfect for showing off this car. Thanks for sharing👍

Carry on!
7:35 Love the gold wheels... Much better than the dark or black trend of wheels these days.
Maybe you can do a conversion of the DCT from the Elantra N and pop it into the type S😁
If you look closely, they didn't even give the Type S all 4 up/down auto windows. Only front 2 are auto up/down.
Blue TSX in front of Integra-S is Aspec version ??
Looks same as Honda ACCORD TYPE S 2.4.
Beautiful.
This is much better for 99% of people over the FL5.
10:18 oops.
Better keep attention to the road and choose speed wisely.
Car of the Year!
Where I live this will cost around 75k pre mark ups due to import costs thanks to my government (Puerto Rico, a US Territory) and idk how the hell I’m gonna buy this car, but I know I am. No question about it. I’m OBSESSED with it.
Which is exactly why I’m SO SO exited for this video. Oh my GOD I can’t wait to hear the opinions on how it drives.
Js
@@wbwayne8887 You’re right there, I completely forgot it’s basically a Type R with a suite and tie 😅😂
But yeah, unfortunately where I live any car which it’s MSRP is over $44,890 you MUST pay 34% on the amount over the 44 (basically 45k) so 34% of around 6-8k then on top of that an extra $9,253 🥲 making the MSRP before mark ups of the ITS specifically around $63,670 and that’s simply before mark ups if I’ve done the math correctly.
However the only reason I didn’t get an FL5 was the interior, and this car fixed that and imo it looks even more aggressive but at the same time refined than it.
And those rates go for any car.
FK8 Type R’s are 50k here
FL5’s 65k
The TLX Type S is 94k
Supra’s are 97k
It’s absolutely insane and disgustingly disappointing but I can’t do much 🥲
@@christopher-gardner it is, but at the end of the day I just like the styling of the Integra better.
