"Il Giustino" (RV717) is an opera in three acts by the composer Antonio Vivaldi, composed in 1724 on an old and often retouched libretto by Count Nicolò Beregan (1683) and subsequently redone for the music edition by Vivaldi (perhaps for an opera by Antonio Maria Lucchini and librettist for Tieteberga and continuation of Farnace).
The opera was commissioned by Vivaldi by Federico Capranica for the Teatro Capranica, his family's Roman theater, after the success of Ercole su'L Termodonte in 1723, but it was performed only after the death of the client, as the second opera by the carnival season in 1724. It was the last opera composed by the Venetian master for Rome.
This opera is very rarely performed; Giustino appears in Operabase statistics with 3 representations in the period 2005-2010.
The aria of Anastasio, Vedrò con mio diletto, has become a famous piece sung at concerts and on recordings by countertenors such as Philippe Jaroussky and Jakub Józef Orliński and by contraltos as Sonia Prina.
