    Another video better late than never I suppose!
    Back in September I was able to attend my first Import Face-Off event at Firebird Raceway up in Eagle, ID. I was originally intending on just running either Test & Tune or the Bracket class but the event organizer somehow convinced me to compete in one of the heads-up classes instead. Due engine/turbo size restrictions, I was basically "forced" into the top class at the event (FIP - Forced Induction Pro) with several competitors capable of running consistently in the 7-8 sec range.
    I started off at my lowest boost/power setting just to get a feel for the track and car. I know running a bias ply in the rear with a wide-ish radial up front can cause some sway/instability so I wanted to make sure the car felt okay on the top-end before pouring in more boost. The car felt great so I was more confident about cranking it up a bit after each pass.
    Getting the car off the line was a bit of a struggle with the best 60' of the day being a 1.797. The track prep seemed to be on point so I don't think it was an issue there. It was just tricky to find that balance between spinning/bogging and being thrown into competition where I felt like I needed to cut a somewhat decent light also complicated things a little bit. Needless to say there's plenty of room for improvement but overall I was very pleased with how the day went. I can't wait to see what the car will do when I knock a couple tenths off of that 60' and hit it with more boost on the short track!
    For the two rounds of qualifying I was able to line up against my brother in his brand new 2021 TLX Type-S for some good old brotherly competition. He managed to click off a 13.78 @ 102 which is pretty awesome for a bone stock 4200+ lb car. When everything was said and done I somehow ended up going home with a 2nd place trophy. I guess sometimes it pays to be lucky!
    Overall it was a great event and I have to give a huge thanks to my brother, dad, and step-mom for being my pit crew/support team for the day. It would have been a long day without them.

    Beautiful IS. Just sold my 535whp 92 galant vr4 and picked up a stock 05 is. Going to build it this summer. I'm just in Salt Lake. Slip that clutch more off the line. Less likely to smoke the tire and won't bog down so bad. You land a great launch and I bet your get 9's or very low 10's.

    • @twojay
      @twojay  4 місяці тому +2

      Yeah it would have been nice to have a few more runs that day to get things dialed in, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. Starting from scratch with tire pressures, damper settings, and launch RPM/boost was tricky but overall I'm pretty satisfied with how things went. These multi-disk carbon clutches can be tricky to slip as well. A slipper valve would probably be a good investment if I was planning to hit the track more often. Congrats on the IS acquisition and best of luck with the build!

      It works with the factory pan and pickup. They offer several different options depending on which oil pan configuration is being used. If I remember correctly, the IS300 (front sump) requires "Type F1".

  • @JM10344

    Hi odd question, If you have Brian Crower camshafts do you know if the EXHAUST shaft has a machining port in the front were the bolt threads in to hold the cam gear on. Mine is leaking out of the bolt only to the front of the CG. So weird no leaks from any new oem seal and not a oil charged gear. I'm going back in hope for advice if you saw a machine port when installing. Maybe I overlooked sence it/stock camshaft does not have a port sence it has no oil charge/VVT-I. IDK it's upsetting me. Any advice/past experience I would greatly appreciate. So I don't take everything apart again I'm thinks pull the bolt out and load it with RTV. ??? Sorry to bother you. Thank you

    • @twojay
      @twojay  2 роки тому

      Hey there. I think that's actually a fairly common issue because the threads on the front of the camshaft (for the cam gear) can be exposed to pressurized oil. There should be a pressed in plug (looks like a little freeze plug) down at the bottom end of the threads but even that doesn't always prevent oil from getting to the threads. I always apply some high temperature thread sealant to the threads of the bolt before installing the exhaust cam gear. I'm talking about white thread sealant, not thread locker or RTV (see Permatex 59214 or Loctite 565). I would also make sure that the cam gear bolt is not bottoming out inside the camshaft as that could be causing issues as well depending on your gear/bolt configuration. Hope that helps, good luck!

      @@JM10344 No worries. You're definitely not the first the experience this, I have seen several threads on my.is concerning the same issue. I don't know what the "official" response/solution is from BC but I have been using thread sealant there for many years without any issues.

    • @twojay
      @twojay  2 роки тому +1

      For most of the runs I was shifting between 7200-7400. I have the ign cut set to around 7500. With this 3.2L, the EFR 9280 isn't very efficient beyond that point so there's not really any reason to rev it any further. Another reason I shift where I do is to take advantage of the loads of torque that this setup produces.
