Just wanna say i love that you made a follow up video that was focused on you trying something the community giving feedback and you immediately giving it another go. I love to see youtubers listening to their community and i really wish more would but honestly i feel like the Warhammer youtube scene does a good job at doing that
I appreciate that!
It is good but remember they aren’t our robots or slaves. We watch them because of their perspective and individual talents. Make sure not be apart of the hive mind.
@jc7997aj not what I meant by that but I do 100% agree I more meant that I love seeing content creators interacting with the audience more than just throwing up a poll to decide content
Absolutely fantastic follow up and wonderful community interaction. Nice one guy
@@trevante4640you are very romantic 🪖🪖🪖🪖🪖
One of the best parts about this hobby is how we all share and learn from each other. As much as you paint, as much as you try different styles and techniques, it's very likely someone else will have learned through trial and error something that you haven't experimented or realised yet.
So thanks guy, for sharing your improvements and admitting when something can be done better. And to all the people in the comments on the last video being snarky, remember that you too will likely cock something up in the future and it'd serve you well to be more humble.
I was expecting a response to all those comments 🤣 that intro was brilliant!
Yeah lol😂
Haha, thanks
Love that you’re not afraid of being wrong (and that we got an extra video as a result!)
This right here is why you are our favourite mini painting guy, Guy
I think the old contrast one was still really cool, but if you're going for the vibrant effect I think this one is. P e r f e c t.
Hyped for Sporktober!
Hell's Bells, this second try is amazing; so bright and vibrant, and yet still with some subtly in the skin.
I would like to see a 2nd Edition 40k Crossover between Midwinter Minis and Minisodes here on UA-cam.
I loved the community feel of this video! Would love to see more stuff like this.
holy shit the side-by-side of the new bright colours vs your grimdark lad really is something
I saw one of the comments of the original video, and while I'm not a painter myself, the preshading step being what leads to the more muted, grimdark look made a lot of sense to me.
I'm glad you made a followup, it's great to see how well it worked! Both getting closer to the result you wanted, and cutting the already massively improved time from your first attempt in half again.
That (next to the awesome DIY stuff) is one of the many reasons you're my favourite channel. :)
Hello I was part of the dog piling I hope it wasn't too snarky. It is way better for what you were looking for. Have fun with the 29 other minis
Good work, a lot of us thought it, some posted it. You have delivered in more than full. Utmost respect. I hope I can see you sometime in Aus, just to give you a handshake and heartfelt thanks.
That ork skin tone you did there is spot on. It looks great. Im amazed at what differences a few colour changes makes.
Awesome video. This new style is even better. Please paint more in this style it looks amazing. Love the old school fun and bright era. Keep up the good work.
Fair play coming back and recording a follow up, Guy.
Big props Guy, you took the community suggestions to heart and came out with a fantastic video response!
I like the different skin tones. Makes them look like individuals without having to customize uniforms and equipment.
Wow, what a difference! Looks amazing
Gotta love the community interaction! Keep up the good work!
This new color scheme made such a difference! This was a cool follow-up video.
Good on you for admitting and trying.
Top man for going back and giving it another go. Turned out great!
Two midwinter minis videos in less than a week? I'd joke that it must be my birthday but it actually is thanks guy.
I think the new version turned out great. That said, there really is no "wrong" way to approach it (at least in my opinion.) The RIGHT way is the one that gets the results you like. The subtle differences are all a matter of personal preference anyway. I ALWAYS enjoy seeing how other people do things, and take from those tutorials what works for me.
Thanks for a great video.
The single pigment Contrasts like Baal Red are insanely vibrant.
Good on ya for going through your learning with us!
Amazing video! And I'm glad to see all three styles of painting of the orks... Guy your videos and content are simply amazing!!!
11/10 for interaction with the audience and trying suggestions, I'm quote sure that this all comes about as most of us have the 'tism. Big love, Doomfire magenta
Glad you owned up Guy! MWM continues to lead on transparency and accountability
Thanks matey!
Unfortunately transparency was the problem over the pre-shading.
Looks epic! Love to see your process and progression - always been such an incredible authentic part of your channel which is so SO valued!
I have dozens of these and always meant to find a fun way to spend a bit of time with them. Will try this out, LOVE IT. Thanks! Would like to see more stuff like this
The evolution of the use of contrast paint has been interesting to watch. It went from “there's a new technology that does this new thing! It's quick and easy!” to “yeah but I want the old thing? And now I have to use this stupid new tool?” to “oh this new tool is totally awesome, it's quicker and easier and I can still do the old thing!” to “wait, when I use the new tool I just end up getting the old thing?” But I think all we can really take away from it is that habits are surprisingly hard to break, especially when they fall quite close to what you used to do.
In any case, you get the full ten points for making this video, Guy. Responsibility and accountability (dare I say transparency?) in painting plastic orks is what this world needs.
It's somehow more vibrant. Looks great, excellent follow up.
Hot damn that looks good! Nice work Guy!
We love midwinter minis posting follow up content
Love your videos and the way you present yourself as just a normal painter and hobbyist like the rest of us. I have been watching since the beginning and planning to into the future good luck on all you endeavors every time.
The less than polite folks can go... Interact with other people like themselves.
I for one will continue enjoying your content in the spirit it is given.
Thanks for being you, it's a big part of what got me back into painting to begin with
Looks great!
Watercoloryness, that's the description I've been looking for!
Great results. Glad you gave it another go!
This is what a good community is all about.
Someone somewhere probably already tried the thing you want to do. And you don't have to waste time & money figuring it all out by yourself thanks to the input from strangers.
Really appreciate the follow up, and the results are absolutely bang-on 90’s! Definitely shows the strengths of using both acrylic and contrast together!
Two videos in 5 days. We are blessed
i loved the original video and loved this follow up as well!! Awesome to see how well it worked, the new ones look amazing!
Damn, halved your time with each new approach and dare I say the skin looks better than 90s paint and I loathe modern GW paints. Nice job!
You absolute legend for doing a follow up!
Great vid and love your honesty
Sweet Final result..... with less time! 👍🏻
It takes a big man to admit that he's wrong ... an' da biggest man iz da strongest man, an' da BEST man! Good job, Midwaaaghter Minis!
I think its pretty cool you made a response video to all the comments!
I made the top comment on the other video, I have to say that the model this time around was just lovely.
I wasn’t personally one of the people that suspected you of trying to underhandedly make Contrast paint look worse, but just thinking of you wasting +3 additional hours on each model because of small mistakes in application, felt like such a shame. Good on you for being open to try some of the reccomendations that the other posters made under that video.
I’m very impressed that you took the constructive criticism and applied it. Most UA-camrs would just ignore the comments and not improve their skills.
Love the green for the skins so good
Watching the spill Guy had with the black legion contrast paint reminded me that not even a week ago my dad spilled a pot of the same thing. ALSO AMQZING VIDEO GUY
contrast paints really are great on these old hand sculpted minis since their details are so exaggerated.
Great vid Guy!
Oh yeah, that was definitely the right move, looks great 👌
Tbh they all look good in their own way, but this one has the classic 90s look nailed.
Amazing looking ork Guy!
Brilliant stuff, that's way closer & quicker than the original effort.
Of course it takes about three hours to free-hand the checkers on the shoulder pad, so there was some time saved there as well. 😁😉👍👍
Oh this, this is beautiful.
I found an old starter set with these bad boys and space marines among my old Warhammer figures when I visited my parents last summer. The paint pots were untouched, and the paint was in mint condition. It was such a joy to start painting again! (Although, the 18-year-old screw lid paints were a bit... thick...)
Well done on revisiting this! I was like you and "anti" contrast paints until I started using them for my orks. They've come out awesome and more importantly very quick to paint. Just another tool for the tool box.
I'm really glad you went back and did a proper contrast try. I was pretty disappointed with that last video. I knew you could achieve the look you were goin for in MUCH less time because I have done pretty much this exact thing on my own.
Days later, admits the mistakes with a whole new video. Love to see it
Just a video I love to see as I’m working on prepping a squad of snotlings for blood bowl!

When you spill a thin paint pot you can soak it up mostly with a sponge and squeeze it back into the pot
Saves a little of it
Love the intro for this, really captured the feeling of reading the comments! Don't let the negativity get you down! 💜
Gosh, I didn't know you're being haunted by voices from comments. In that case: "Wooo... You're pretty gooood..."
Always happy to help. We all should never, ever stop learning. Even Vince and Duncan gladly take suggestions from the comments almost as much as they give them. I love how the last one turned out. Gutrippa Flesh seems to be a good alternative to the awesome Ork Skin from Vallejo.
I don't bother painting anything properly these days, but I still enjoy your vids and attitude.
props to you, guy! it must have taken some work to churn out another video so soon after the first one.
Absolutely love this. ❤️
I also regularly need to rip tissues one-handed. Very useful video
Beautiful!
I definitely knew it could get more retro, but I didn't realise it would be THIS good! Well done on the follow up, and thanks for showing off what can be done!
That's a fantastic glow-up! You nailed that retro charm on the new one.
Looks great. Keep up the good work
Oh boy school is about to start but I gotta watch this
Edit: wow that turned out amazing, good work as always!
It can wait 8 minutes
Haha. That VoiceOver intro! So brooding. 😂
Thank you for introducing me to my new favorite ork skin theme, I don't have much in terms of 2nd Edition ork models BUT I am a fan of the 90s colors of 2nd edition and the early scrap team look of Gorkamorka so Gutrippa Flesh will be perfect!
That looks flippin awesome! The green and red contrasts are mega impressive. Space Wolves vs Greenskins one day? 🙌
Priming white is just on everery 90s tutorial ever.
Great follow up. I’m still not great with contrast but I think you’ve made me re think then.
Glad you learned and improved
Yooooo this is the best. Thanks Guy.
Great stuff, that version is so impressively close to the original!
good work guy, looks like you might have to do a 2nd ed battle report ...
Damn! I Love this Guy!!!😎😎🤠
Huge respect to you for listening to feedback and having another crack at it. I've been finding that speed paints are another learning curve all to themselves, but a little easier to climb due to how quick the iteration loop is.
Glad to see just the white primer
I know a lot of very smart folks say zenithal for contrast, but I have found that only really works if you are going for a high resolution grimdark. Just white or off-white really gets you a very readable comicbook-y look if that's what you are going for.
First video was great, comments about the preshading were on point and now seeing you listened to the community and tried what was recommended, excellent job
It takes a Fool to be wrong.
It takes a man to stand up for his Mistakes.
Fortunately I am both.
@@MidwinterMinisBest way to be. ❤
Nice work, Guy!
We love you Guy
Fantastic results!!
Got to say, all three Orks look fantastic!
Great work, I like theses old school models so much, not to much detail and some texture (like the axe handle)
New GW mins are just to busy, to much detail with little big flat areas and lack of texture. I have been enjoying painting again since I picked up some others games with much simpler, less over detailed mins
This is just amazing!!! Man this brings back so many great memories, although the paint job is 100 times better than I would have done back then. A great idea showing the different results and I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this for us.. I am already subbed, but a thumbs up is guaranteed.👍👍
Funny thing with Orks, at least for me, is that it doesn't matter much if they all have a different shade or vibrancy. It is all up to how you want your army to look, but I really like the imperfection you can get away with in an Orks army.
