    Why nobody was there to hug Zamo? What a shame. She looked over the whole arena for someone to share the moment with her.

      Her teammates- Svetlana in particular- were bitter over the loss of the team and AA gold. She had a fall in both (even though the team had multiple falls from several athletes) and it was pretty obvious that most were unhappy with her for it. It’s childish to act that way, but not uncommon unfortunately- especially for Russians.

    Even after more than 20 years it still is both humbling and amazing that Elena used our song "Daddy-O" (1:36) in her gold winning routine.

      I definitely agree. She should be surrounded with hugs from her teammates and coaches after that performance and what she accomplished through it. She earned a heck of a lot more recognition than she received right after that performance. It didn't look good for her team not to be there for her.

      @@oscarburgos7774 I think they were mad that she cost them the team and an AA gold after she took the spot from her teammate. Then she took the spot in the finals from another teammate and won a gold. Then took another gold from the same teammate when they competed together. So it didn't look good that she lost the gold for her team but won two for herself. They must've taken it personally.

      She was, and it was pretty ridiculous that everyone left her hanging, could have cared less about her. Really sad support from her own people.

      @@angelasmith3967 me too. She’s a legend, a great sportsman and leader for generations that came. Her legacy to me is far greater than her vaunted counterpart. I just wish we saw more of her namesake vault in competition today.

    WOW!! In my 41 years of being a gymnastics fan, that may be the best women's gymnastics floor routine I've ever seen!! I saw that routine live, but I had forgotten about it after so many years. I can't think of a better floor routine off the top of my head.

    They were probably mad at her for flubbing the TF and AA. Very upsetting. Elena didn't deserve that.

      @@sahpire75 i think she maybe didnt want support. It was a very hard olympics for her. She got the news that her dad died just before the olympics. Then she screwed up her team final and her all around final. Maybe she just didnt want anyone around because she wanted to let it sink in on her own

      @Jenny Unreal what Zamo went through. I was so happy for her because Zamo had gone through so much and then ended up with 2 Olympic gold medals that will last a lifetime.

      Maybe they were salty that she cost them the team gold and the AA gold, but she got one for herself on the final. She already had a gold medal and they saw it a her taking another from her team mate. Even though she earned it.

    God! Why should everyone be centered around Khorkhina? Poor Zamo wanted to be hugged and acknowledged and celebrated but she had no one to celebrate with that day :(

      I think because Svetlana had given up her competition on vault and gave it to Zamo and Zamo won the gold they think that should have meant Zamo was happy. But then Zamo went out and beat Svetlana for gold with one of the greatest floor performances ever.
      Simone Biles would have been hugging Zamo that's for sure :)

      @@Kaboomboo Yes Zamo had some tough moments in the team competition and the all-around competition but made up for it with two individual golds but that didn't make up for it with the Russian girls and their coaches. But 22 years later I am sure those two gold medals mean everything to Zamo.

    Amazing routine, those first two passes are so powerful and nobody was there to congratulate her, khorkina didn’t even get up, Zamo had to go over and hug her. Very sad.

    There might have been a more beautiful woman in the world, but I never saw her. In gymnastics unlike other sports, the prettiest performer is almost always the star of the team. In the NCAA, it's true almost 100% of the time, too...

    That day I hated Khorkina. All her efforts erased. She was unsportsman like, unprofessional and arrogant sore looser. Its a competition and your teammate. Its like she asked her before the day that give this to me I am the Russian Queen its my destiny. Dont make it perfect. And she said then earn it. Beat me. That face of sore looser says it all. Plus she was innovator on Uneven Bars years ago but same routine over and over again if it works. Its starting to bore and now shes lacking innovation.

      I always enjoyed her bars routine. The rest? Definitely not. Her attitude was what tuned me out to her right from the start. It’s also why I always loved watching ladies like Elena P, Zamo, Ludmilla E., Anastasia G, etc- they were always so courteous and considerate to everyone they competed against, while putting out gorgeous gymnastics. Aliya in particular as time went along became such a gracious sport and great representative for her country.

    I preferred Produnova's floor exercise she was terribly underscored. This was a fine routine but not as precise in the choreography. Just wiggle your arms & butt to rock'n' roll music. Produnova gave a fuller performance. Elena's crisp movements, stunning artistry, powerful, precise tumbling & her red hair made her a striking figure. The judges were swayed by the crowd. The crowd liked the music better. Australians, Canadians & Americans are musically very uncultured.

      The only uncultured one here is YOU. Elena had a great exercise and performed it beautifully. She deserved gold. Produnova did well but this was better executed- period.

      @@alazjaw.8968 over the course of her career Svetlana did a great deal of things to justify the “mean girl” perception. She said some absolutely horrid things about others who beat her in competition- especially at the Olympics, and was clearly bitter here for being beaten out for gold… by a far superior routine. Elena also had had a fall in both team and AA competition, which undoubtedly angered the team (though team finals was much more than just her). It’s a complete disgrace to treat a teammate like that.
