Fully agree with the Hot Take. But also, I think it works as a player too. Don't play at a table or for a DM that you're not going to be able to leave. Don't join a campaign, especially one in progress, if you're not sure you're going to jive with the table. This can be hard but if you ask for a one shot to get acquainted with the group and they aren't willing to do that, then maybe it's not the right group for you.
