    Eric, what a simple, and GREAT way to true up the blank using your tool rest. My "solution" has usually been to just turn away more wood! You're the man. And congratulations on the new baby.

    Little August will love it. I'll have to make one, much larger though, to fit my hand. The wife says I'm reverting back to my childhood. ;-D

    I would have thought that, given your amazing talent, that you might have made it with at least one captive ring. Having said that, it's a wonderful project and video.

      I did that once but rejected it because the rings can break away and become choking hazards. Thank you for watching Jim

    That "ghost line" was a great AHA for me as I've been doing lidded boxes lately. Non GMO a good move!

    G/day Erik once again from Downunder I will have a addition to my family soon with the birth of my first Great Grandson and I've been looking at all the different ways of turning rattles mine I think will be a combination of a couple what I would like to tell you today is about the dangers of using a steb centre lol I always use one and I have a few but here in Queensland Australia it can be very hot and humid and growing up here in the early 1940 - 1950 boys used to run barefoot most of the time (except in Church) and I have a bad habit of working barefoot as long as my Wife doesn't see me well one morning I was removing a steb from my lathe it slipped out of my hand and fell pointed side down onto my big toe and left a complete impression it look for the world like a gaped toothed smiley face of course photos soon were sent to the turning Fraternity here but it did give them something to smile about hope you have a great 2019

    A beautiful heirloom Erik....! August Gregory Anderson's baby rattle turned out quite nice, but why would I even think otherwise....! Erik, what is the wall thickness when completed? May you and your loved ones have a great safe day...!

    Great news and a great little gift, was great to see how you made this. Never used butcher block, not sure if we get it here in the UK or not. Is it something that you have to top up all the time? I know you have to on chopping boards etc. but that I suspect is because they are washed all the time.

    • @ErikAnderson1
      @ErikAnderson1  7 років тому

      Thanks Paul and same with the rattle if the baby is chewing on it a lot. If the baby does not have nut allergies walnut oil is the best! Salad dressing aisle in your local grocer, just make sure it is not rancid and store it in a cool dry place and if it ever does go rancid stop using it and get some fresh stuff.

    Nice Job Eric. Congrats on the new member to the family. My wife and I became grandparents for the second time this Monday 5-22-2017 to a new baby girl Raelyn Monroe. Thanks for the inspiration I will make one for her based on your design. Any significance to the number 18 kernels of corn? Thanks Ed,

    • @ErikAnderson1
      @ErikAnderson1  7 років тому

      Yes 18 is two times 9 and 1+8 = 9, 3x6=18 and it is the day of the month I was born on. It also makes just the right amount of sound, Thanks Ed
