Cheaper alternatives - shampoo and conditioner find natural drugstore ones like Maui moisture etc. For microfibre towels use a t shirt. For gel DIY flax seed or oat gel will work wonders and super cheap. And for hair oil what I have found works best for me is olive oil really cheap and can get it anywhere. Just some advice to anyone starting to transition and wants it to be less expensive 😃
OOoooo could you pretty please do a video on how you use your denman brush with products?? I've been wanting to try it but I'm not sure on how I could use it without losing curl definition
I’ve been thinking to myself all day how I’d love to see you do this type of video, I was even going to leave a message suggesting it so I was stoked when I got the notification for the video!!
Anyone know why the back of my hair is super curly and defined but the front is wavy and super super frizzy. I understand that many people have different textures on one head of hair, but for me it is more about the dryness and frizz. The front is super frizzy and dry even on day one. While the back is frizz free and defined. I do the exact same things to them but they end up so different. I just wish my hair was always the same amount of dryness and definition all over my head. Also, is devacurl really worth it? I understand every UA-camr loves it, but is my transitioning hair going to act the same? Sorry for all the questions but I really need help. Thank you
Ash ._. Hi, for the front of your hair did you highlight it or put a lot of heat to it? I would just add more moisture to it add some conditioner to it before your products when styling. Definitely deep condition your hair. That’s what helped me the most while transitioning. As far as the deva curl products. If you can invest in them you should give them a try. I finally decided to try deva curl and I swear I don’t know what they put in these product but they are AMAZING!! I too thought the you tubers are pushing these products but I was wrong they are amazing products and worth every penny. Good luck 😊
Deva curl is very worth it for beginners, because it's a line dedicated to damaged, porous hair (very high protein content). Not all products are groundbreaking and they still have to fit your needs. I'd say it's best to invest more in products that do biggest difference - deep treatments and stylers (because they stay on your hair). There are no drugstore stylers on the same level as Deva, BounceCurl, Jessicurl etc. You can find some nice cheaper shampoos and conditioners, but cheap gels and creams might give you a pretty hairstyle, but they'll never be as nourishing for your hair and that makes a huge difference. If you are on a budget I'd say buy a gentle low poo/cowash (if you have sensitive skin, chose something with no scent, natural or artificial) As I Am has legendary cowash and leave in (coconut line, but I hear other lines are great too). If you said more about your hair, I would be happy to give you more specific recommendations. It's especially important to know how dense it is, how thick are your strands and how does it react to water - low porosity takes tons of time to get wet and you see water beads sitting on top of your hair, high porosity gets soaking wet (thus super heavy) immediately and often gets very unpleasant (straw like, coarse to the touch) and tangly when you wet it in the shower. Medium porosity gets wet and dries in reasonable amount of time and is the one we all dream of. Low porosity has a bigger tendency to buildup, because it doesn't absorb water or nourishing ingredients well and high porosity soaks everything up - water, conditioner, oil and you often find that you need to reapply products very often. Again - medium doesn't get crazy one way or another. We often have different porosities on our heads, sometimes from damage (mechanical, chemical, heat etc), sometimes naturally, ends are often most porous, but it also be more random. It's often the cause of different curl patterns we have. All three porosities can be dry and damaged. Your hair is probably looser in the front, because we typically pay most attention to it, so it has most damage from hairsprays, heat tools and brushing. You can still focus more on the front - put more or heavier conditioner/cream/leave in on it etc. Be patient and you'll see that your hair will get better and more uniform with time.
ocandro Thank so much for the help!! My hair is around a 3a and 3b in the back, some 2c waves here and there, and on the front there is only a 2a or 2b wave. It is very thick. And my hair is medium width( not coarse or fine ) I would say I’m medium porosity but in between medium and high to be exact. I have been doing mild damage to my hair all my life from temporary hair dyes, semipermanent hair dyes, blow drying on high heat, straightening hair, brushing hair often, and using sulfate and silicone products everyday. ( all of the heat and dyes were used to moderation ) my hair is a natural light color so I haven’t ever bleached it. For reasons I won’t say on the internet I can’t use gels or anything that say in the name hold. Even though I would love too. For the past 2 months I have been on the CG method. I have been washing my hair with sulfates every once in a while to remove build up. I also am quiet attach to my hair but I want to change that so I want an easy routine. Hope this helps. Again thank you guys so much. I absolutely love this community it is amazing and has helped me so much.
Hi Dana! I love your videos, they are so helpful and amazing for me and my journey! (One month down!) i was wondering if you could do a quick video on plopping?? How to do it and what it is?
Great video! I’ve heard so many rave reviews about Devacurl’s deep conditioner. I’m working my way through Not Your Mother’s matcha butter masque. I like it, although it’s thicker than I expected. I may just end up getting the Deva one (need to save up $ first lol)
Hi beauty! Can I ask your advise? I always watch your video's😍 I bought a few years ago some Cantu products, but I think I have bought the wrong products and it was maybe better for another hair type. Now I want to buy from Cantu the curl activator cream and the define and shine custard. And probably the mist leave in conditioner and twist and lock gel. I have the hairtype 2b 2c and for a colleague of mine it's working the activator and define and shine.. but I am just doubting to spend all the time so much money on things that never work. Can you give maybe a review from cantu? Because a lot of products you show are unfortunatly not in Holland- But Cantu is :) Big hug Mel
Dana Marie hey firstly your hair are really beautiful and secondly i wanted to ask about how your bangs stay so aligned and straight because as for my case i certain have to blow dry and straighten them though i follow the rest of your routine on my hair
I bought the Jamaican black castor oil a while back but I haven’t really figured out how to oiltreat my scalp with it since it’s so thick and sticky. Any tips?
i have so many questions !!! first of all does highlights damage the hair cos i think doing some but i don't want to damage; i did once and my hair was horrible like burned. and second can someone tell me something about haircuts? i have wavy curly hair but they are also very thin..
From my own experience I wouldn’t say it’s necessary but I personally have TONS of pillows and I have some with satin and some with cotton covers and I can attest that satin does help reduce frizz and keeps my curls better overnight... whereas my cotton covers tend to dry out my hair and make it look like I was attacked by my cat in my sleep 🤣 nights when I sleep with my hair down I use the satin and nights when I have my hair up(usually on days I don’t wash) I use the cotton 😊
Not necessary but it does help. I have a satin pillow case and it didn’t seem to make much of a difference when I was without one. I tie my hair up every night but for someone who sleeps with their hair down or in braids I’m sure it would help a lot
kind of sad by how I started watching your channel because of how original and great you were at makeup and beauty, and now most of your content is just curly hair related... :( :(
I love her transition, she showcases how she’s become more natural and healthy with her hair, there’s a lot of beauty channels but not a lot on natural hair care for curly wavy hair. Especially as thorough as she is!
@@evilqueen09 agreed and I have learned alot, but have you seen her makeup/beauty tutorials? She is SUPER talented, makes things look natural/unique without a lot of effort/cakiness. Only person I actually listen to on which products to buy.
Having curly hair is sooo expensive😫

If you need a satin pillow case just get a silk hair scarf and tie it around your pillow.
i’m shaving my head
You are brilliant. Thank you. I have found this journey to be so confusing and you have just made it simple.
OOoooo could you pretty please do a video on how you use your denman brush with products?? I've been wanting to try it but I'm not sure on how I could use it without losing curl definition
Elena Sokolich me too
the melting watch behind you is so cool!!!!
i so needed this. it is overwhelming at first. thank you!
thank you so much for this video! i really found it helpful! and i absolutely love the melting clock in the background
Julia Falah thank you! It’s from urban outfitters!
I’ve been thinking to myself all day how I’d love to see you do this type of video, I was even going to leave a message suggesting it so I was stoked when I got the notification for the video!!
omg yay thats awesome! I hope it helps!! 💕
My suggestions: leave in conditioner, wet comb, invisibobbles.

devacurls melt into moisture!!! 100% recommend
Hi Dana! I love your videos, they are so helpful and amazing for me and my journey! (One month down!) i was wondering if you could do a quick video on plopping?? How to do it and what it is?
Ashley Daniels penny tovar has a good plopping video
This is really helpful. I discovered new beauty brands. You’re right start with a minimalist beauty collection.
I loooove your curly hair videos !!! 😩😭❤️
Thank you for this. Love the melting clock!
Omg yay glad I could give some inspiration and thanks so much for doing the video! That was so quick lol. Off to shop now 😬

Any suggestions for a good dry shampoo? Or a substitute for non-wash days?
I think I just found my hair twin
I would be so interested to see what you thought of the online products that are called prose! that would be amazing if you reviewed the products!!

Great info. Thanks so much
Thank you!! This was very helpful!! 💚
Love this videos 💘
Can you make a video about wedding makeup? I am getting married in july and am doing my own makeup
Thank you so much. I always like a refresher and I was wondering what is your hair prosody?
Dana Marie hey firstly your hair are really beautiful and secondly i wanted to ask about how your bangs stay so aligned and straight because as for my case i certain have to blow dry and straighten them though i follow the rest of your routine on my hair
I love all your content! Thank you for the information ❤ your amazing❤
I bought the Jamaican black castor oil a while back but I haven’t really figured out how to oiltreat my scalp with it since it’s so thick and sticky. Any tips?
Does anyone know how she elongates her curls here? It looks so nice
Gisselle Garcia my overnight wavy routine! This is 3rd day hair so it looks extra elongated lol
Is this your hair natural with no product or scrunch, or did you slightly straighten??
Thanks for the tips! Loved your earrings where are they from? 💜
Cafeconnuni in a perfect world 😊
Question! Your curl type has changed a lot since your last curly hair journey video. Do you have any idea why it’s so different now?
Her curl pattern probably changed because her hair became healthier. Normally after you transition your true curl pattern changes after a while
If you need a satin pillow case just get a silk hair scarf and tie it around your pillow.
Love this and you
i have so many questions !!! first of all does highlights damage the hair cos i think doing some but i don't want to damage; i did once and my hair was horrible like burned. and second can someone tell me something about haircuts? i have wavy curly hair but they are also very thin..

Do you think it is necessary to use a satin pillowcase during the journey ?
From my own experience I wouldn’t say it’s necessary but I personally have TONS of pillows and I have some with satin and some with cotton covers and I can attest that satin does help reduce frizz and keeps my curls better overnight... whereas my cotton covers tend to dry out my hair and make it look like I was attacked by my cat in my sleep 🤣 nights when I sleep with my hair down I use the satin and nights when I have my hair up(usually on days I don’t wash) I use the cotton 😊
Yes absolutely! I switched to my satin pillowcase a few years ago and I think it’s great and it helps my hair.
Not necessary but it does help. I have a satin pillow case and it didn’t seem to make much of a difference when I was without one. I tie my hair up every night but for someone who sleeps with their hair down or in braids I’m sure it would help a lot
Where did you get the slip scrunchie ???
Kreepy 123 Anthropologie 😊
i hatee how everyone has devacurl products😫 does anyone have any dupesss??

Eve Believe two eves were the first comments 🤪

kind of sad by how I started watching your channel because of how original and great you were at makeup and beauty, and now most of your content is just curly hair related... :( :(
I try to do 1 beauty video and 1 curly hair video per week! 😊
